  • With 9 Porsche 956s finishing in the top 10, the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans was a truly remarkable feat for Porsche. But just exactly how did they win?
In this episode of “Short View Back to the Past”, Autosport Chief Editor Kevin Turner recalls the time that a very broken Porsche 956 won Le Mans.

These cars (+ 962) were one of the most beautiful Le Mans cars ever.

9 out of the 10 were Porsche, that is mind blowing 🤯

Porsche also got another miracle Victory. Because in 2016 the "if the race have gone one lap longer" scenario exactly happen but to Toyota who broke down on the last lap allowing Porsche to win

Imagine dropping it into first and flooring it just to force the engine to come around to your way of thinking - absolutely savage

Graham Hill won the F1 championship (twice), Le Mans, the Indy 500, and won the Monaco GP 5 times! Furthermore, he was a total gentleman, very articulate, had a great sense of humour and was most charming. And on top of all this, he was very humble and unpretentious; there will never be another race car driver like him, I have no doubt.

And even though Andretti fell just short of what Graham Hill accomplished, I have met Andretti a couple of times and would say that your description of Hill as a man applies to Andretti as well.

I agree with SCSmith. I too have met Mario - a true legend and gentleman. I was also at this race and with 1 more lap to have seen Mario, with Michael, win would have made it even more dramatic!

In the Triple crown, Monaco GP win considered, not F1 WC title...

people disagree. it doesn't *super* matter atm, as either way graham hill is the only driver to have done it.

@@rileybanks1191 Then why not swap Indy500 with Indycar champion or Le Mans with WEC Champion? Same logic as using F1 WC instead of Monaco...

I was there.. my first Le Mans. It was incredible!!
I sort of wish it had been 1 lap longer to see the greatest all rounder, Mario, equal the triple crown.

How is it clickbait? Porsche won Le Mans with a car that was massively overheating, and even seized with a lap to go

Porsche clearly didn't win, the real winner was a man called monkeh swimmy and he drove his golf cart to win le mans
