Nah man, Owen screaming at his "death" makes sense when you not only consider he knows the hell that's coming next, but also the fact that like Miracle Day, he could go on as an irradiated particle or something
As far as Ianto's backstory, I'd always taken it that he is desperately trying to get jack to hire him to Torchwood Cardiff so he can sneak his cyber girlfriend in and look after her, knowing Torchwood Cardiff took what was left behind by the cybermen. Though I don't know if that was said or if it was basically my HC to make the story work.
I thought that was the whole point of it! Like- he's so clearly desperate to get in and Jack's wary of him because he's from Torchwood One (and also he knows nothing about him), but the scene in the warehouse creates a sort of bond betweem them and Jack decides to let him in - partially because he's hot but also because he's intruiged. And Ianto is shown crying when he's walking away from Jack, which feels like him being so overwhelmed with relief (of securing a place to take care of Lisa) and also a bit of betrayal (aka betraying his loyalty to Lisa) from actually having fun with Jack (and also maybe being attracted to him (they WERE about to kiss I'm sure)). I wouldn't say it's a HC, I think that with the knowledge the audience has, it makes perfect sense.
I’m still amazed that the fact John Barrowman is Scottish and his American accent is just put on for majority of his performance life hasn’t managed to reach the entire fandom. It feels like it should be the Doctor Who equivalent of Viggo Mortensen breaking his toe in Lord of The Rings.
He moved to America as a little kid tho, and grew up there . He has stated he only uses his Glaswegian accent when talking with family . He doesn’t even use it with his hubby cos apparently hubby doesn’t like his real accent . Which sounds a tad off to me. My dads sister does it she can switch between geordie and Scottish seamlessly, depending on who she talks to . She can go back and forth in a conversation, it’s impressive . It’s cos she’s spent half her life in Newcastle and half in Scotland. Plus my grandparents were Scottish . I’m Manx so she talks to me and English people as a geordie but when she talks to anyone Scottish she switches to a Fife accent 🤷♀️🤣
Lol can also confirm am a Scouser from an Irish/Scottish family and live near London and can switch to 4 accents depending how I'm talking to but if I'm annoyed/speaking quickly it switches straight to Scouse
I feel like 'the last man' would have been much better if they'd done more on the emotional front. In my opinion, it should have gone all in on the sadness aspect, similar to 'Out of Time' or 'Random Shoes' (to some extent)
Been waiting since your commentary on season one for this video! Well done mate - this was a cracking analysis, and funny to boot. Keep up the good work.
Little known fact, the BBC 2 broadcasts were censored slightly. Any “fucks” or overly gory scenes like the torso exploding in reset were edited out. Oddly they kept the Jack and Ianto snogging in Adrift, but edited out when the lady reached into Owen’s pants in Dead Man Walking sooo... it’s not the most consistent censorship. I have some of the original broadcasts recorded should you be interested.
I have never seen so much nitpicking in a review. There is such a thing as enjoying things. Still love watching your reviews but nearly every criticsm you've given I disagree with.
Seriously. I think some people just don't like these seasons, but why continue engaging and telling everyone how bad they are? You usually do that if you were expecting something else and got disappointed, or if something is getting critical acclaim and you offer an alternate opinion. But this is a just a franchise with a cult following, not an Oscar film.
It's a shame that Torchwood wasn't worked on the first two seasons like Children of Earth was. That was the season I turned my friends on to.Miracle Day was a joke.
Im gonna go out on a limb here death is actually a time lord cos he needed 13 lives , the black nothingness afterlife was the "void" as rassilon was known by "ravager of the void" and the glove looks so similar to his gauntlet too (that dead people are sent to when their mortal coil is expired severing their anchor to this reality like voldemort and his horcruxes) rassilon or another time lord may have invented actual ressurection from death not sure how this would interfere with miracle days morphic field though
Overall, better than the first season, but the first season was SO bad that is far from a compliment. A couple of decent episodes, Drift is easily the best episode, and the least like anything else in the season. I hated Owen so much in the first season that while he did have better moments, I was not sorry he was dead at the end. Ianto definitely feels more like a character, the less said about John Hart and that whole ridiculous arc the better. While I loved having Martha Jones around, it did feel a little odd when they seemed to be setting her up as the replacement for Owen's character once they revealed he was dying, just to have him die and her leave. So looking forward to your thoughts on Children of Earth, the best Torchwood series ever done.

we gotta get a children of earth review, in my opinion its one of the best seasons of television ever
Couldn’t agree more
Torchwood seasons 1 and two are good fun but children of earth is just a downright masterpiece

Owens theme is banging. Dead man walking is my favourite ep of torchwood with dead man walking at second.
Impossible to choose between those two!

@@Diamondlad it’s a talent!
This blew my mind I never knew this after over a decade of seeing doctor who for the first time, I had to look it up
I think day in the death was great. Dunno why but I think the concept of death and immortality to be interesting and a goldmine for writing ideas
I worked with Barrowman back in 2007 and he spoke in a Scottish accent off screen
John Barrowman isn’t American he’s Scottish.
Love your Torchwood Retros. Cannot wait for Children of Earth!
I like Torchwood Series 2
The end of series 2 is so good. Owen’s arc is so good
Awe I thought Owens death in the finale was really heartbreaking
i loved seeing my name at the end
Adrift has got to be my favourite 2nd season episode 👌 great recap review Harry!
Adrift makes me cry every single time I can’t believe chibnall wrote this
Jacks brother was so bizarre, interesting that he hates him but there’s no character arc
Julian Bleach also played the nightmare man in Sarah jane adventures.
Children of Earth might be the best thing in the whole doctor who universe - so I would recommend getting on that if I were you
I feel like 'the last man' would have been much better if they'd done more on the emotional front. In my opinion, it should have gone all in on the sadness aspect, similar to 'Out of Time' or 'Random Shoes' (to some extent)
Has anyone else just realised that Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton is in one of those episodes? 32:04

Idk I love Series 2. It's a rough diamond to say the least, but it's so fucking cool I don't really care.
8:00 the episode with Adam reminds me of that Rick & Morty episode with those parasites (best R&M episode)
My first thought too, I forgot about this episode. So I also forgot that Torchwood did it first.
The only thing I like about "Adam" was that they included him in the opening and made you try to remember the previous episodes
We need a Children of Earth review ASAP
It's a shame that Torchwood wasn't worked on the first two seasons like Children of Earth was. That was the season I turned my friends on to.Miracle Day was a joke.
The Jonathan Pie reference 😂
Im gonna go out on a limb here

I love torchwood series 1, 2 and 3. I feel like you're just being overly cynical.
Will you be doing children if earth and mircle day
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is amazing lol go away
For real
Wait till you get to Children of Earth. it's some of the best Tv, but also some of the greatest of Doctor Who.
Please do children of earth soon
WE NEED CHILDREN OF EARTH
You know borrow man isn't American right? He's Scottish
He's both Scottish and American

"Jesus times"? Come on now it clearly says AD 😅
Jk jk I genuinely like watching these.
Exactly, 27 AD, so Jesus was supposedly alive at that time.
@@rkah6187 The differentiation between BC/AD requires that Jesus dies

Mate, Owen is the second best character in the whoniverse.
@@wardjunior1450 In your opinion, which you're more than welcome to, but it is not one I share.
This show is so bad...why do I still come back and recommend it to DW fans...with a warning of course. Or just watch children of earth. Ayyyooo
