I really would love a complete anthology with all games of the lynx in one video, tbh. That would be epic! Anyway - great video, thank you for making it!
Around 1991 I had my original Lynx and the new Lynx II version, and I used to take them to work with me along with a Comlynx cable and two copies of the game Warbirds. My co-worker was a guy I went to high school with and was an out of work cargo plane pilot. We used to dogfight throughout our lunch breaks. It was fantastic fun, those are really great memories. Hearing my bullets fire off and then the impacts would come out of his speakers, then that great sound of his plane falling out of the sky. Bliss. I've got multiple Lynx units and games. I've been meaning to do one of the screen mods to it, but I'm a little too chicken to do it, with my bottom rung soldering skills.
Received Lynx II for bday and loved it, I still have it to this day. It now has a McWill screen & makes all games a new experience. I played Checkered Flag, Xenophobe and other games with a friend using 2 Lynx systems & ComLynx cable. Good times
Great topic!!!! Ah the Lynx. I distinctly remember being in Good Guys(remember that store...it was like a smaller circuit city) and the salesman showing my mom and I the different handheld gaming systems and I don't know for sure but I think he talked us into the Lynx over the Game Gear. I already knew about the Game Boy and the Lynx just seemed so much better(especially since I wasn't the one paying for batteries). In hind sight, the Lynx was a really good handheld for the time with some really great games. I think the Game Gear overall may have had it beat on the amount of great games, but there were a ton of exclusives for the Lynx and it was cool going to day care, bringing the Lynx and no one had heard of it or played the games, so I traded my Lynx for their Game Gear for the day. Good times!
I have never had this console in my hands, but I know the game library through emulation (and yes, there are very good games, where we have fun). Thanks for the video, and thanks for mentioning Pinball Dreams on the Amiga.
My favourite game of the Lynx was by far Defenders of Oasis. I was getting into RPGs at the time and was hooked on that game. Great trip down memory lane! Of course I’m high when watching this! I’m glad I am!❤
Some of my favorites are California Games, Crystal Mines II, Ninja Gaiden, Chip's Challenge, Tournament Cyberball 2072, Rygar, Desert Strike, Shanghai, Klax, Pinball Jam, and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom.
I had a Lynx and really did like it. I don’t miss not playing any of the games I had but can also say I don’t regret having bought any of the ones I had either. It was just a pretty solid system.
I loved my Lynx. I bought the system mainly for Rygar but got California Games free with it. As with most retro games, these games are not done justice in UA-cam videos, you really need to see them on the actual system screen to appreciate how good the games can look. BTW Patman, I've always had a thing for Elvira's Double Pack!
I agree, that'ss why I did not maximize the screen size otherwise they just look like a pixilated mess in full screen. I've Always had a thing for those airbags as well
Patman, would you consider doing a 'Games that were Lost then Found' video series? Would love to know more about Rolling Thunder on the Lynx, and I bet there are loads more games in similar circumstances
I still have an unmodded Lynx 2, with an almost complete collection of carts. I also have a shrink wrapped copy of Missile Command/Asteroids on display on my bookshelf. I really wanted the original Lynx as a kid, but $200 was out of my range back then. Crystal Mines II is my goto game, along with Awesome Golf. I am really tempted to sell my collection since I fear the caps failing.
I had to work so hard to get a Lynx as a kid and everyone else had Gameboys. Klax and California games, good times :) Didn't see a 2nd gen one until many years later at a museum.
I wonder what the Lynx would have been if EPYX had the money to fork out on there own & not team up with Atari. Atari was horrible! I love Toki & I always told people who liked that game to play Karnov as it plays almost exactly like Toki! Sounds attracted me to arcades & nothing beats hearing the sound of Robotron 2084! I constantly have a long play going on my computer just 2 hear that noise in the back ground! Love the BMX sound to the 66 Batman! California Games on the Lynx is worth it, just for that sound! Na-Na-Na-Na-Pat-man Rocks!
I guess we'll never know, it had to have turned out better with them behind it and not Atari but who knows? We may not have gotten almost exccellent Atari arcade games on the system either. Thank you buddy
I love ❤ Gates of Zendocon! Cool music and the game was easy enough for me to beat. My dad told me a rumor that the model 1 started much smaller, but investors (?) balked at the price for such a small "toy" so they made the shell way bigger, thats why the inside is almost entirely empty! I still have his model 1 and 2 and all his games 😂
Yes do another episode. Maybe one focused on the multiplayer stuff happening? Should that be the case, I would love to see someone playing the Aliens on Xenophobe. This experience doesn't seem possible by emulator. I did play a lot of Slimeworld and Warbirds as 2 player modes, quite superb!
The lynx is incredibly impressive from a hardware standpoint. At the time no hardware outside of the arcade could do sprite scaling, let alone on a handheld.electrocop and blue lightning were mind blowing to my ten year old self.
I don't know how many times I've asked my wife for a Handy . It's always a " No " . So my collection suffers . All joking aside . Your videos are always the best !!!!
I got a Lynx in trade at some point. It was entertaining, but damn did it chew through a set of batteries fast. So did my Game Gear, but I had a rechargeable pack for that. I never worried about battery life in my game boy.
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries It's true. Even the batteries that came with it lasted over 30 hours. I remember joking that the power LED drained the batteries faster than the rest of the system.
KLAX is one of my favorite games ever. My local arcade (Jolly Time) when i was in HS had KLAX (and Rampart), and then i got KLAX immediately when it came out on NES. Such an amazing game. Completely underrated.
I still have my ole LYNX from 1990ish. It now has a nice IPS screen and a flash cart. It's one of those underdog systems that would've been nice to see more 3rd party support.
I used to have one of the old dog bone shaped Lynx. My personal favorite game was Xenophobe, it was a improved port of the arcade including an ending and extra characters.
The Atari Lynx was very much appreciated by people because of the quality. But man, was it hungry for batteries. Nice to keep at home, connected to a poweradapter. On the road it's usage was very very limited. The games that ran on the Lynx were top notch and they ran like clockwork. 10:08 is that the Spiderman actor? lol
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries I borrowed it a few times from a friend of mine, he was a lucky s.o.b. that had one. California games was my favorite game.

I couldn't believe the wires set up for adding the external controller. That looks a bit daunting :-)
Patman Thanks for another awesome documentary video!
Thanks a ton for watching
Another excellent Patman vid. This kind of makes me want to track down and mod a lynx.
Thanks,I always enjoyed mine
Klax is probably my favorite on it. Mine has been McWill modded with tv out and YES it dies make a huge difference. YES PART 2 PLEASE! GREAT JOB!
Okay, thanks
Always a pleasure to watch your video's and a big THANK YOU is well placed here :)
So nice of you, Thanks
You rock pacmanqc great work Sir thank you
Thanks a lot
Received Lynx II for bday and loved it, I still have it to this day. It now has a McWill screen & makes all games a new experience. I played Checkered Flag, Xenophobe and other games with a friend using 2 Lynx systems & ComLynx cable. Good times
That's cool, the upgraded screen is a must
That Dracula game looks awesome!
It is fun
Excellent again.thank you patman ❤️
Thank you very much
My favorite handheld system ever, had some incredible arcade conversions. Pac-Land, Roadblasters, Double Dragon, Pit-Fighter, Rygar, Ninja Gaiden, Toki, incredible machine!
Yes, I really loved mine
always wanted a lynx as a kid, and a turbo express.
That was one system that eluded me growing up
I had both. I sold my Lynx to get a TE, which I still have, recapped by Chris Courage here.
Good times!
The game gear definitely had a wider variety of titles. Thanks
This will be an interesting one. Good topic sir
Thanks
Thanks for making this video. I love it!
Thanks for watching
I love there videos, I had no idea about the Amiga connection to the Lynx!
Pretty interesting stuff
Please do a part 2
Thanks
I fantasized about this console so much as a kid, that at 42 I couldn't fully remember if I had one or not.
LOL
I have never had this console in my hands, but I know the game library through emulation (and yes, there are very good games, where we have fun).
Thanks for the video, and thanks for mentioning Pinball Dreams on the Amiga.
Pinball dreams was one of my favorites because it was one first games to have accurate pinball physics as well as a ripped off Terminator 2 table
Atari 50 lets you play Lynx games on your Switch…how awesome is that? Nice video
Very cool, thanks
Do I wanna see a part two? You bet your Asteroids!
LOL thanks
YES Patman, give us the rest of the Lynx goodness sir. 😎👍
A part 2 would be cool to see.
Thanks
My favourite game of the Lynx was by far Defenders of Oasis. I was getting into RPGs at the time and was hooked on that game. Great trip down memory lane! Of course I’m high when watching this! I’m glad I am!❤
LOL thanks buddy
In the early 90,s i was a member of the Atari Lynx club here in the Netherlands. The Lynx was big in the Netherlands!
I never knew that, thanks
A.P.B., Klax and Scrapyard Dog were very nice and fun games. My favourite was Chip's Challenge
That's a game I should have included
Some of my favorites are California Games, Crystal Mines II, Ninja Gaiden, Chip's Challenge, Tournament Cyberball 2072, Rygar, Desert Strike, Shanghai, Klax, Pinball Jam, and Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom.
Those are all fantastic games. The Atari Lynx had quite the catalog
I never owned or played a Lynx from back in the day. I'm amazed by how good the sound and animation was.
Absolutely, considering the system was designed in 1986 to 1987
I had a Lynx and really did like it. I don’t miss not playing any of the games I had but can also say I don’t regret having bought any of the ones I had either. It was just a pretty solid system.
I agree
Mad crazy ed loves this channel
Thanks buddy
I loved my Lynx. I bought the system mainly for Rygar but got California Games free with it. As with most retro games, these games are not done justice in UA-cam videos, you really need to see them on the actual system screen to appreciate how good the games can look. BTW Patman, I've always had a thing for Elvira's Double Pack!
I agree, that'ss why I did not maximize the screen size otherwise they just look like a pixilated mess in full screen. I've Always had a thing for those airbags as well
Lol!
I had a Lynx years ago, and it's a neat little handheld console with a pretty good library of games.
I really enjoyyed mine
Never heard of that system but games looks great!!
There were some really good games on the system
Patman, would you consider doing a 'Games that were Lost then Found' video series? Would love to know more about Rolling Thunder on the Lynx, and I bet there are loads more games in similar circumstances
That's a good idea
And , yes . PART 2 !!!!
Thanks
Elvira certainly led me on a journey of...discovery back then. 😊
You and me both my friend
I still have an unmodded Lynx 2, with an almost complete collection of carts. I also have a shrink wrapped copy of Missile Command/Asteroids on display on my bookshelf. I really wanted the original Lynx as a kid, but $200 was out of my range back then. Crystal Mines II is my goto game, along with Awesome Golf. I am really tempted to sell my collection since I fear the caps failing.
Sweet, I only had around 10 or so games. Kudos
Howdy pmqc great video as always the lynx was the arcade hand held of its breif time 😅😅
Thanks buddy
I had to work so hard to get a Lynx as a kid and everyone else had Gameboys. Klax and California games, good times :) Didn't see a 2nd gen one until many years later at a museum.
It's too bad that the system wasn't more successful
part 2 please!
Okay thanks
Great video my friend
Thank you 👍
I wonder what the Lynx would have been if EPYX had the money to fork out on there own & not team up with Atari.
Will do, thanks
Awesome video
Thank you very much
The lynx is incredibly impressive from a hardware standpoint. At the time no hardware outside of the arcade could do sprite scaling, let alone on a handheld.electrocop and blue lightning were mind blowing to my ten year old self.
It was mind blowing, very far ahead of his time
I loved my Atari Lynx even more than it loved eating batteries. 👍
LOL good call
I don't know how many times I've asked my wife for a Handy . It's always a " No " . So my collection suffers . All joking aside . Your videos are always the best !!!!
LOL thank you my friend
I had one for a while. A very underrated system. Evercade has some pretty good carts with a few dozen games
Excellent
I got a Lynx in trade at some point. It was entertaining, but damn did it chew through a set of batteries fast. So did my Game Gear, but I had a rechargeable pack for that. I never worried about battery life in my game boy.
Seem like the batteries in the Game Boy lasted forever
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries It's true. Even the batteries that came with it lasted over 30 hours. I remember joking that the power LED drained the batteries faster than the rest of the system.
KLAX is one of my favorite games ever. My local arcade (Jolly Time) when i was in HS had KLAX (and Rampart), and then i got KLAX immediately when it came out on NES. Such an amazing game. Completely underrated.
We never had the arcade game around here
it still blows my mind that KLAX has fans, but i'm glad there's love for it. Rampart is fun but i get frustrated by the rebuilding pieces.
I still have my ole LYNX from 1990ish. It now has a nice IPS screen and a flash cart.
It's one of those underdog systems that would've been nice to see more 3rd party support.
Couldn't agree more
Nice thumbnail, I love Elvira
Thanks
I used to have one of the old dog bone shaped Lynx. My personal favorite game was Xenophobe, it was a improved port of the arcade including an ending and extra characters.
Yes it was really good, a lot of games didn't make the cut to a part two might be in order
Faaaaaaaaantastic video as usual!
Thanks again!
The Atari Lynx was very much appreciated by people because of the quality.
But man, was it hungry for batteries.
Nice to keep at home, connected to a poweradapter.
On the road it's usage was very very limited.
The games that ran on the Lynx were top notch and they ran like clockwork.
10:08 is that the Spiderman actor? lol
Yes that is bully Maguire :-) same with me, constantly kept mine plugged in
@@PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries
I borrowed it a few times from a friend of mine, he was a lucky s.o.b. that had one.
California games was my favorite game.
I've heard that thanks to being designed by former Amiga engineers, the Lynx used Commodore Amigas as game development systems, which bothered Atari to no end.
Yes, I should have mentioned that but there is only so much detail I could go into
