      The simple game should have sequels apart from Super Mario Bros. The basic competition or cooperation aspect has been brought to the NEW SMBs but I would also like the Mario Clash-style games for more family fun.

    Great video, really enjoyed that. I actually think Mario Bros might just be my favourite game ever. I loved it myself as a teenager nearly 40 years ago (both in my local arcade and on my C64) but in recent years it became the game of choice for me and my daughter, who is now 13. We've been playing it for years together since she was about 5 and it's still now the first game we go to if we visit a retro arcade as there's nothing like playing on an original cab. There's something about the two player mechanics that mean it's the arcade game that makes us both laugh the most - getting in each other's way, bouncing the other playing into enemies accidentally etc., it's just a really silly and fun game.

    • @PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries

    Another great video! Brought back many great memories. The original Mario Bros arcade game is probably one of my all-time favorite games. My local corner convenience store had the cabinet and I'd always play it. I loved it cause the sound was turned up, and the cabinet had great speakers (great sounding bass, etc). Just an FYI, I believe when you were showing your MAME footage, you're missing some sound samples. There's a sound sample file you can grab which adds them back in (particularly the sound when Mario/Luigi's moving/running, etc). The sound adds a lot to the experience of the game. I love the GBA version as well, and it's great to play on the Wii U Virtual Console (on the TV!). Probably one of my favorite versions, only wish I could play local coop on the same screen (the original GBA supported link up cable via 2 GBAs for multiplayer). It's great that the Switch has an Arcade Archives version, and the Virtual Console (NES) version for the 3DS is awesome cause you can game share AND then play local coop with 2 3DSes over local wireless. Wish the Switch version did the same!

    • @PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries
      @PatmanQC-Arcade-Documentaries  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you. I wasn't aware I was missing any samples, I will have to fix that. Now that you mention it though, I do recall this game was first emulated in Mame 25 years ago that we didn't need to download the samples for the sound to work properly LOL completely forgot about that. Thanks for the info on the other games

    I played Mario Bros. at a Mazzio's Pizza back in the mid 80's through the early 90's. It sat right next to Data East's Shoot Out. I bought the Atari 2600 version at our local Venture Store (same place I got Solaris, Millipede, and Kangaroo). Funny thing though is that other than Mazzio's there really was not any other place that had the arcade even at the main arcades throughout the years in my hometown.

    What a fantastic breakdown. I had no idea there were so many ports. I actually just got the nes version in the mail off eBay today. I remember playing in the back room of a little country store circa 1986 or so. Then, late 2000’s, my son and I had prob 100s of hours co-op on gameboy advanced SP’s connected together with a cord. Great for travel. One thing to add to the game lore, I heard this game was one of the first that they realized with two players playing at once, the arcade unit could make 2 quarters (or nickels in your case) while other machines made one!

    From what I understand, only the North American home console market was actually destroyed by the crash, the North American and European home computer and arcade game markets were only weakened temporarily, and in Japan nothing happened at all.

    The pow block was an item u can hit in the unlockable super mario bros 1 stage in Super Smash Bros for N64. It later became an item in mario kart Wii & super smash bros for 3ds & WiiU. The slip ice was renamed to Freezie & was also an item in super smash bros melee & onwards. It was also a hazard in a stage in mario kart double dash

    I had Mario Bros for my hand-me-down Atari 2600, my friend had the NES one. Even as a little kid, I always thought the "wafers" were a weird touch. Certainly they could have just made a squared off gold shape and called it a coin, but I think the programmers just wanted to play around with some color function. And small correction, the last name "Mario" actually premiered back on the live action segment of an episode of Super Mario Bros Super Show. Luigi got a certificate to get one free dance lesson from Shabbadoo (!) and "Luigi Mario" was on the certificate. I'm sure they used that Mario last name in another episode, but I can't remember quite off the top of my head where.

    If you could include homebrew you could include the Colecovision Homebrew Mario Bros,very well done version almost arcade perfect,it even has the intro music and level tutorials. The only kind of weaknes in it is the enemies are single color,I guess due to the limitations of the system.

    Just want to point out that Mario had already taken the name Mario (at least internally) by the time donkey kong made its way to North America as seen in a 1981 ad flyer where he’s called “little Mario the carpenter”
