Poco is a Southern California country rock band originally formed by Richie Furay, Jim Messina and Rusty Young following the demise of Buffalo Springfield in 1968. The title of their first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, is a reference to the break-up of Buffalo Springfield. Highly influential and creative, they were pioneers of the country rock genre and forerunners of the Americana genre. Throughout the years Poco has performed in various groupings, and is still active today.
"Keep on Trying" was one of the songs on Poco's first album, Picking Up the Pieces.
Pickin' Up the Pieces (1969), is considered a seminal album of the country rock genre. Reviewer Charley Walters awarded the release with 5 stars in the 1979 Rolling Stone Record Guide edited by Dave Marsh and John Swenson, although it was subsequently reduced to 4 stars in the 1983 revised and updated edition of the book.
The original lineup of this new group was Furay (vocals and rhythm guitar), Messina (lead guitar, vocals, producer), Rusty Young (pedal steel guitar, banjo, Dobro, guitar, mandolin and vocals), George Grantham (drums and vocals) and Randy Meisner (bass and vocals). The group was signed to a recording contract with Epic Records, which acquired the rights to Furay from Atlantic Records (the Springfield's label) in return for the rights to Graham Nash from The Hollies (who was moving to Atlantic as part of Crosby, Stills & Nash). Originally, the new group was named "Pogo" after the famous comic strip character, but it had to change its name when Pogo creator Walt Kelly objected to their use of the name and threatened to sue.

I discovered "BONES" earlier this year in re-runs on TV. Intrigued, I started watching from Season 1. I'm on Episode 18 of Season 2 now. Bone's father bought her snickerdoodles and asked if she remembered this song. He sang just the first line and I paused the episode to see if UA-cam had the whole song. UA-cam always come through! Pretty song.

I was 19 with a baby when this song came out. It was my anthem to get to my child's father. Almost 50 years ago. Never got back to her father and my love. She is my love still today, very happily so! She is happy and healthy and about to turn 50! I still cry through the song that I have always had. Go Poco!

I am pretty sure it was 1978 that I saw Poco sing this song live in South Bend Indiana. When they played this song so many people were singing along that one could hear it in the seats and it was pretty cool. After they finished playing there was a brief silence in the Morris Auditorium, and then then everyone started screaming and clapping. Over the years this song has remained one of my favorites, and takes me back to a time that I miss. I wish Poco would have gone further, but the contribution they made was awesome.

Keep On Tryin is from the Head Over Heels album, with Poco consisting of Rusty Young, Paul Cotton, Timothy B. Schmit, and George Grantham. The song was written by Schmit, who sang lead.

I lost a lifelong friend this week and this song has been stuck in my head. I had no idea what the video would be however.... My friend raised horses, so this video really ripped out my heart and soul.

This and ROSE of CIMARRON '1976 HD' are my two POCO favorites. Great songs which will endure, and excellent photographs of the West. I guess you could say they capture the essence of the Southwest.
