  • knowing that there is so much information out there about autism in women and autism in general, I'm not here to offer any scientific evidence or shiney new facts. I just want to share my personal experiences with you and maybe help someone not learn lessons the hard way like I did!

Your story reminds me so heavily of me when I masked, and also my mother (who I believe is also autistic) when she masked in her marriage with my dad/her ex wife. I absolutely adore hearing these stories from other autistic women, because it makes me feel so much less alone. Making decisions you desperately don’t want to make but going along with it because you’re masking to please a partner....is that an experience all us autistic women have to face? I’m glad we’re unmasked now.

I think it's a process we all go through, it just takes some longer than others to come out the other side. The best thing we can do though is to identify that we are a part of a larger group of like minded individuals called neuro divergents and we don't have to pretend to be different. We just have to find friends and partners that embrace our differences.

I was extremely upset and shocked you cleaned the floor in your wedding dress and you had to go to Africa on a hunt. Bless you from Nottingham UK. 🙏💕

Haha that should have been the first sign that my marriage was doomed!

Thank you for sharing your story. Although I don’t think I am autistic, maybe just socially awkward?, I found your video very interesting as I lost my self in my marriage as well. I think it can happen to a lot of people without them realising it. It’s great that you were able to recognise this and found yourself again and happiness with a new partner. And that you have someone you can be completely yourself with. I really can’t imagine you on safari in Africa! What an experience! I went dirt bike riding myself without ever wanting to and it was the scariest time of my life and am just glad I didn’t do any serious damage to myself.

Your dirt bike story reminds me of the time I found myself on the back of a horse scaling mountain slopes for my love. Nope! Never again!!!

“It seemed like such a shore”. So relatable! I feel like this a lot with everything, but mostly with people.

How awful of everyone to leave you with the cleaning alone on your wedding day in your wedding dress, horrible 😢

I think that, taking the time to reflect on these past experiences, have allowed me to gain a better understanding about myself and how I fit into the world around me. I often miss social cues and don't realize I've upset or offended people until I've taken the time to reflect upon the encounter. I hope this gives me a way to improve.
