How much choice is too much choice? Volkswagen offers not one but three small-ish SUVs: the T-Cross, T-Roc and the new Taigo, which squeezes into a tiny gap between the other two. It’s a coupe version of the T-Cross, and both cars are based on the Volkswagen Polo. Most of the parts - whether you’re looking inside the cabin or under the bonnet - have been used in numerous VW, SEAT and Skoda models; so, while the Taigo doesn’t feel very distinctive, it’s easy to operate and should be cheap to run. But, is it the small SUV for you? Nicola puts it to the test.

You should have hired nicola a few years back and would have saved so much time!! What an amazing presenter!
Totally agree 👍👍👍
Nicola's approach seems to be to show people what they need to know about a car. Imagine that!
She'd never get a job at unless she learns to do useless irrelevant drag races between irrelevant cars. (I do enjoy Matt's stuff though too, TBH!)
As a matter of fact, she left Car Buyer :)))
@@duncanidaho7494 she’s part of the autovia group that owns carbuyer and autoexpress 😇
@@dojascat3391 ah. Ok thank you !
Thank god, finally someone test another version than the "R-line"!
That rear antenna really makes it look cheap. A shark fine would tie the look together amazingly
Nicola really is fab. I’ve got my eye on the Taigo but not sure I’m fully convinced
Hooray, Nicola is back
The Ssangyong Actyon was available 3 years before the X6. I'm sure there are not many things that Ssangyong have created first but this couple/SUV muddle could be one. As for the Taigo/Nivus its a nice looking car / hatchback.
A great practical and stylish car but that interior quality looks like maybe a tad too much cost saving for the price. It does look good though and is practical for most I guess. The lack of twisty do's though is a black mark against what seems like an increasing number of cars. Nicola, start a petition on safety grounds to get the twisty do's mandated to cars (that we like and can afford anyway) and just maybe the law makers and law breakers might just notice.
Go check the car first from close people.. Get a test drive and then have opinions and impressions. It’s an exceptional car!!
Had this car since February now , was a good upgrade from my polo .
As we say here in Brazil, it's a Polão (big Polo literally)
is it noticeably bigger than the polo? in terms of boot space etc
@@ryanhall9347 the booth looks a tiny bit longer , but not that much of a difference. Rear passengers report that they have more head room and leg room
@@jamesmcatear2045 More leg room in the Taigo, compared to the Polo?
seems like the editor forgot to colour grade the footage
I think the Kamiq is the better package, especially in Monte Carlo guise.
Looks dynamic? This? From which angle exactly?
Whats going on Nicola...used to watching your reviews once a week now barely 1 every 2 weeks...#we need more nicole on carbuyer
@nicola_hume brilliant review as always, loads of important points! 👍
I can't wait to see the I.D 5
Not quite sure why VW even bothered to introduce the Taigo. Is it a nod to the VW Polo that used to have a curved boot? Not sure if it was called the Fox?
She's beautiful. That accent is to die for.
She is a thousand times better than one bloke I could mention.
I wonder who you might mean? That stick of truth bloke, I shouldn't wonder.
I 've long since tired of the blokeyness of that particular individual. In fact I'd go as far as to say that a foreigner reviewing cars in the person of Tomas over at Autogefuel does a a much better job of actually reviewing the vehicle he's driving.
Could you test drive the MG HS Exclusive Automatic? Please
Definately Not A Guru already has, a few weeks ago.... he quite liked it.
I like the colour.
My experience driving it was very bad I must say. It is marked as like a bigger Polo for better visibility in the city (no way this thing is going off-road), but exactly the good visibility is missing with this car, very bad view what’s behind you through the window and also to the side and rear sides as the pillars are blocking a lot of the view.
Further, I drove the 1L 3 cylinder engine with DSG and the reaction of it was EXTREMELY slow, it almost felt like I wasn’t controlling the accelerator myself… Adding to that the very random spec I was driving had navigation, CarPlay etc but no automatic climate. The only good thing I can say is the handling in town use because the steering is very light but I don’t think that’s too god for outer city driving
Great review, great reviewer, but really really doesn't look like a coupe. It's just yet another SUV.
The presenter knows what she's talking.
Well put togather review..

German cars quality are plummeting along with coupes popularity
I think this car looks great outside. The interior is quite good too. The Skoda Kamiq might be even better though
BL did a very similar green in the 1970's!
On the allegro
I have !,,,, it’s a r line , spot on !
What a lovely presenter! I'm in love with her but at 1:16 did you mean Polo or Golf? 🤔
A wonderful review nonetheless.
Definitely Polo. It's based on a Polo.
in my country that car is called a vw nivus
Great video presentation as always, but I find VW interiors very boring and low quality looking….. Audi interiors are much better…
and costlier......
that is a bogey green colour! Back on track though, car looks bigger than a polo visually but I guess I'll hear the dimensions soon.
Edit: just saw the dimensions and it's more Golf coupe SUV than it is a Polo SUV like the T-Cross is
I also reviewed the Volkswagen Taigo in my channel, great quality! But could do with more equipment!
India also have a "Tiago" by Tata Motors
Ordered ours…payed upfront…..60 week waiting time we were told after paying! Cancelled order.
That colour looks like something I just coughed up!
The point is that Volkswagen charges more for a product that is just the Polo, and still naming it as a Suv... it's not... if you want it to be one you'll have to do more than change the front, rear and lift the suspension just... this is a more expensive Polo, that's all!😧
Yes, absolutely. But isn't this the exact same strategy adopted by everyone else? Also, the people buying this type of vehicle don't want a proper SUV. Most just want a bit of the SUV look.
The wife got one last year 1.0 TSI R-Line 110ps version and I have to say it's been amazing build is on par with my 21 plate Octavia estate and drives just as good if I'm honest it's refined and feels like a real quality product. The people banging on about the T-roc your having a laugh it's got zero style and looks like a cheap box for pensioners compared to this when you see them side by side.
Great review! (Somewhat underwhelming car...)
About the plastic - NOT true. Taigo has a soft plastic dashboard compared to TCross. Its wheel base is also longer compared to Polo. Who's preparing content for the reviewer, please be more accurate. But thanks to Nicola the review is funny as usual, no matter what the actual content is :)
I remember when the world was crying and laughing at BMW back when they launched the X6, especially Mercedes fans and look where we are now....
It's a awful idea.
new cross polo?
great review and accent. am considering buying one of these bad boys after the war. cheers from Ukraine 😎
upd: one complaint though. measuring fuel consumption in miles and CO2 emissions in km... well, you know
The colour is different, unique but won't spend money for it. I'll be content with a white or blue colour. Love you outfit Nicole :) thanks for another vid
Aka the Nivus in Brazil and Mexico.
It's similar to the Kia X CEED
You got it wrong, I think. I am not 100% sure though!
T-Cross is the SUV version of the Polo.
T-Roc is the SUV version of the Golf. Taigo is the coupe version of T-Roc.
Proof:
T-Cross dimensions:
4,127 mm L x 1,760 mm W x 1,573 mm H
Taigo dimensions:
4,266 mm L x 1,757 mm W x 1,515-1,518 mm H
T-Roc dimensions:
4,236 mm L x 1,819 mm W x 1,559-1,584 mm H
Dude, the Taigo is literally a Polo with a different front and and rear end plugged into it. The doors are the same as the Polo as well as the windshield and the whole interior.
This car was developed in Brazil back in 2019/2020 where it debuted as the Volkswagen Nivus.
Why am I telling you this? Because this car was conceived to be marketed bellow the T-Cross in the South American region, since the Brazilian-spec T-Cross has a roughly 8 cm longer wheelbase than that of the Polo/Taigo/Nivus and EU-Spec T-Cross.
So that's the reason why the Taigo is weirdly positioned in Europe since it gets the same wheelbase and leg room as the T-Cross offered in there.
@@driftaddictbr
Son, you don't make any sense!
The dimensions don't lie.
T-Cross 2024 dimensions: 4,127 mm L x 1,760-1,782 mm W x 1,573 mm H
T-Roc 2024 dimensions: 4,236 mm L x 1,819 mm W x 1,559-1,584 mm H
Taigo 2024 dimensions: 4,266 mm L x 1,757 mm W x 1,515-1,518 mm H
Your confusion comes from the fact that Polo and Taigo use the same design language. That's all right. Children like yourself get confused by things all the time. You even believe that Santa Claus is real.
Surprised that the plastics are so low quality
It's not the only one with curves and swoops
How can a handbrake be a novelty?
The park feature doesn't replace the handbrake whatsoever.
Because most modern cars have an electronic handbrake activated by a small button. It saves a lot of space, will usually auto-release when driving away and doesn't need adjusting.
@@ApurtureSci That wasn't the point being made though.
You still need a parking brake with an automatic transmission, the type doesn't matter (button or lever).
@@perpelle I'm not sure I understand. Most cars, automatic transmission or not, will now come with an electronic parking brake (handbrake) independent of the transmission which is, in most ways, superior to the manual handbrake, but performs the same function. The comment made in the video was relating to the fact that it had a manual parking brake instead of an electronic version.
@@ApurtureSci "The manual handbrake is a novelty.
Especially in cars with an automatic gearbox like ours."
My interpretation of it was that an automatic gearbox somehow doesn't need a handbrake (because she mentioned the auto in the same sentence) and that you can rely on the park feature on the auto.
Button push handbrake can be found in all kinds of vehicles, manuals or autos.
@@mb4297 I have no idea tbh. The only pro (in my opinion) for buttons are more space in the cabin.
Schnapp holders not cup holders .

Nah, VW Tiago is a Golf-like SUV with lack lustre designs from the 90s.
This or t-roc?
T-Roc all the way
That's truly awful 🤮 Kia/Hyundai have nothing to worry about.
Kia/hyundai 😭 those are rubbish
Raised Polo more expensive than a Golf
Better than a T cross, but everything is better than a T cross
Dieselgate plastics and touch-based controls have ruined so many VWs in recent years. Bring back rotary HVAC and Mk7.5 Golf infotainment
I like the look of it but the interior quality of VW has fallen off a cliff in recent years
If you want quality within the VW group, it's now wearing a Skoda badge.
@@Brian-om2hh Nah, wrong there
I’ve driven the 1.5tsi and it sounds HORRIBLE
Another boring SUV to fill a gap.. so dull... we want the Jetta gli. Playing it safe Vw😖 as for cup holders..next..The lack of buttons.. I feel the frustration..🤬
Never understood why one colour costs more than another.
It's a marketing tactic. They know certain colours are a hit with buyers from their order books, so they cash in. When White became popular a few years back, Ford began charging £250 for it. It was a no cost option previously.....
I'm soo tired of this SUV trend. VW has jumped on this SUV bandwagon and the worst part is they're not even doing it well. How Sad!
Agreed 👍👍
Stick to the Ford Puma it’s a much nicer car to drive, and feels better quality
I have to admit, I like Coupé-SUVs - even this VW one, but the interior is still poor.
If you want stylish and nicely designed interiors on your VW group car, visit your nearest Skoda dealer......
@@Brian-om2hh I know them all, thank you. But the VW group won't see a penny from me.
And why would you buy one? Pass!
I wouldn't. I'd rather have the T-Cross, as it offers more practicality....
@@Brian-om2hhyeah tcross is more practical but its just to ugly

Answer to your question is no. VW are troublesome and as a company have and are still handling the diesel gate shenanigans in an unforgivable way.
Go drive electric and tell me how you will recycle the battery. I'm tired of all you brainwashed euroGAYan Greta Tumbergs
I can't believe she prefers a manual to an auto. I have a Tiguan DSG, it changes gear quicker than you can think about it in a manual.
Graham, I got the 1.0 DSG Polo and it’s brilliant it don’t hang about either.
The DSG sucks.
@@duncanidaho7494 mine doesn't.
@@grahamcole4240 Nor mine. It hasn't ever made a sucking noise.....
I do too, apart from that momentary hesitation. as you move off from a standing start at a roundabout with a load of impatient motorists behind you. At least that was my experience in my 2019 VW Golf 7.5.
How much car sir
The good thing about Volkswagen selling it in Europe is that there is some fairness about Volkswagen selling its Polo in disguise (only more expensive)... in Brazil there is only this practice of selling a chariot with exorbitant value... doing it in Europe and USA it gets a little less unfair!😅
Double denim…..hmm
I've tested several vw cars recently and the interiors are pretty atrocious. like, they add colour, but there's nowhere inside the cabin on vw cars that doesn't feel cheap, flimsy and unpleasant. considering that's what I'll be interacting with and looking at 99% of the time then there's no appeal.
Went for a Kamiq because of this.
Can’t be a coupe - it has too many doors, its not even trying to hide its rear doors - its just an SUV with a sloping hatch and poor rear headroom
The word coupe has absolutely nothing to do with the number of doors. It just has to do with the shape of the car. That's all.
what is it with you people and hard plastics !?!?!? 😡😡😡what do you want to be ? metal??? the plastic is the most easy to mantain and the most durable. This car has a lot of non plastic areas and myne already camed with damaged leather in many areas and the dealers denys the waranty so please stop complaining about the plastics and the durable materials!
Oh look another generic SUV. Find the badge to find out which manufacturer made it.
Nicola always does great reviews though.
Great video as always, BUT, PLEASE, don't use that transitions in video, so many people have motion sickness!

the taigo is certainly a decent car, but the prices are absurdly high, you get SUVs from other brands, which are based on compact cars, for the same money, with the same kit, whereas the taigo is based on a polo...i mean 🤷

Wish reviewers would point out that if you tap the red side of the “slidey temperature control” that the temperature will rise, just like a button….. and surprisingly enough, if you tap the blue end, guess what? The temperature will reduce. No car in todays world should have a manual handbrake, cheap and outdated
worse thing is you can't see it ant night, its not backlit either. 🤦♂

In your opinion. Personally I prefer a manual gearbox and handbrake. And I prefer to quickly twist a dial in one swift move, not keep raising and lowering my finger to tap something like I’m testing how fragile it is.
I think we only got the Taigo because the Golf has done not very well
What?
Dear VW i need more hard plastic in your new cars! Lets pay 30K+ for less quality
For the love of god no - another SUV! Did VW not have enough in their range already? Still, it's clear VW have now totally perfected the art of creating the blandest, most instantly forgetable cars on the planet. I'm sure the committee that designed it will say it's well built and reliable, but there's not a single other redeemable feature. Cheap, tacky, plasticky and probably 90% built from the VW parts bin that ALL the other VW companies now use too. The vomit green colour sums it up really.
Well said... just so💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤 wish they would give us the Jetta gli🤞
I'm sure I read in the motoring press a fair few years ago VAG were going to simplify their model ranges, its now more convoluted than ever!
VW group cars are THE most blandest looking cars around.look at the new golf...hideous and totally boring design...yawn

Horrible, cynical little fashion accessory of a car. It will sell in droves to this who think that “SUV” and “Coupe SUV” elevate their social status.
And VW interiors - I have just ordered a new car and for the first time in 3 cars, it’s not a VW! They need to wake up and listen!!
I don't think that interior will age well

I’m sorry these are ridiculous
So what you have there is everything bad none of the practicality of an suv and none of the handling of a coupe
