This is the new Skoda Kamiq! It's a small SUV that joins the Karoq and Kodiaq in Skoda's SUV lineup as the smallest and cheapest of the bunch! And for its sub-£20,000 starting price, you get a car with a wide range of engines - topped by a 1.6-litre diesel unit with 115hp - as well as a lot of nifty kit!
What's it like to live with? What's it like to drive? And in what way is it similar to a... Rolls-Royce Phantom?! 😳 Join Mat for his new in-depth review and find out!

"lets talk about the design"
*from the back...it looks like this*
excellent reviewing right there
the good stuff
Blind person:
Yup.. Disappointed 👎👎👎
it has 4 wheels.... and two headlights...it`s not bad...
Expected nothing less from Matt, used to like him but now he's an overrated reviewer
2:55 "gesture control isn't always easy to use" *makes it work every time* "Anyway..."
Lmao
He truly had it in for this car from the get go.
im dead
I had one of these (1.0L 115 ps DSG SE) as a loan car for a day whilst our Superb was serviced and I loved it - great fun to drive, very nippy around town and surprising fast on the motorway.
I didn’t want to give it back. 😊
You say it looks boring, I think it looks very smart for the low price. Definitely a good car.
I think it looks way better than the t cross and the interior design is much better aswell.
@@humanperson4605 definitely. volkswagens look boring af.
I think it's a thing whit Matt and Škoda cars... I feel like he keeps trying to put them down a bit...
I bought 1.0 version, 110 HP and its very good for this price in my opinion.
@@theRozman88 he puts down anything that’s not an overpriced entry level basic model for a “premium brand” or 100k+
List of things Mat gets exited about:
-when the parcel shelf fits underneath the boot floor
-throwing suitcases
-throwing load covers
-poking cars with a stick
-BMW iDrive
It's his fetish
also:
- folding rear seats that lie flat
- rear windows that go all the way down
nutfield001 - and, not to forget:
-small turning circles, which, according to him, are all you need when in a mini roundabout
- Soft touch materials that nobody even touches
@@josteinfarmen My opinion: If you have problems driving over a mini roundabout you can't drive unless you drive a 18 wheeler truck, period.
"Can't fit a bottle in the cup holder". Perhaps that's why they called them cup holders Matt.
Shouldn't have cup holders then. Bottle holders are way more convenient.
@@Jeroenneman But you do have bottle holders, they're in the door pockets. Cups in cup holders, bottles in bottle holders. Seems perfectly logical to everyone but those who"s sole goal is to find complaint.
but at the end he fits the bottle
9:37 That removable boot light is brilliant. When you're on holiday with a fully loaded boot it can get really dark and difficult to find something back there. BEST feature imho!
Mobile flash light 😶
Its been around for years in their cars, nice little additions that mean something
I like it and use it a lot. It has magnet inside, so you can stick it on steel surfaace. What is clever, it has regular 2 AAA rechargable batt. inside, you can open it change them when they get week after few years.
From 2022 they dont have it unfortunately
Mat seemed like he didn't want to review this car 😂

So true
Skoda is growing on me. Good practicality, nice prices, nice features.
Suitcase: "WHAT DID I DO TO YOU to treat me like this?" 😂
Skoda's are top cars these days...🙂🔝👍
I have the 1litre 115hp dsg Skoda Scala, looks exactly the same on the inside. Same engine too, brilliant little car!
Skoda, best car for the money 😊
Spotting things like the missing sunglass holder when you have the sunroof variant is such a uniquely Carwow review feature. No other youtube reviewers dig into the practical details as much. 10/10
And just like the Russian dolls you can't tell them apart very well
Marvello Perdana хмм
really? you find them hard to tell apart? they look completely different from every single angle.
@@MyRealName I can only tell them apart from the size and wheels that's it. Plus I live in Asia and have never seen these European cars.
That’s false, each of the 3 cars has a distinct design feature
Marvello Perdana are you serious? It doesn’t make a difference if you have seen them before or what country you are in. Why did you even say that?
I think it looks really great. And a big thanks to Skoda for still having physical buttons for some functions.
Picked up my Kamiq 1.5 dsg auto Monte Carlo on Friday and it’s a brilliant drive actually, and the Monte Carlo styling makes it look even nicer than the standard. Great car.
How does it handle hills?
@@brian7892 hills? It eats them up in the 1.5 150 hp. It’s a pretty quick car when in S mode.
I was seriously considering this car. Nice to hear it's got the carwow seal of approval!

Matt, Don’t try to compare every car with the luxurious cars from Merc, BMW and Audi. This car is one of the best looking car in its class. It looks clean and sophisticated. This should be the go to car for anyone who is a middle class and who wants to have a decent drive. Review it properly.
I agree. I recently test drove the 1.5l Monte Carlo and I loved driving it! I found it put a smile on my face and I did find it exciting to drive!!
What do u think the residual value of this will trend?
🤓
@@engelcrona excellent resale value
That's why I watch Doug DeMuro. He does better job at reviewing cars. I watch carwow mostly because of drag races
As much as I like Mat and his reviews, I gotta say he could do a better job reviewing more budget oriented cars. It seems like recently he’s passionate and interested only in luxurious or exotic cars. I was really looking forward for Skoda Scala and some other ordinary car reviews...
I found this review childish to be honest
We love watching your car review videos Matt. Especially my 8 year old daughter just loves watching and hearing your comments :) 😊
Why do car reviewers bang on about three adults in the back. I can’t remember when I last had three in the back. Last thing most would worry about.
Didn’t expect that Skoda would give a car for mat to review after seeing the rolls Royce phantom video
Nice video to wake up to. Matt smashing it as always 🔥
Really good review, as always! Would consider this car in the near future.
Yeah he looks like he didn't want to do this review but he had to.
Trying to put large bottle in cup holder and complaining about it. Wtf...
Good review, and humour is always welcome, but being so rough with stuff is off-putting to be honest😔
That’s why i will never buy a demo...
@@pdarwin1973 How would you know though? Dealers might label their own as ex-demo, and those don’t get treated like this, but the cars sent for journalist reviews just end up back in the general used market.
9:45 That bottle holder helping to open the cap with one hand is the coolest!
7:35 might actually be so that you use your opposite hand to open the door and thus automatically check your blind spot.
That's known as Dutch Reach and should be promoted at every opportunity.
Back in my day we would call the Land Cruiser a SUV and the kamiq a bloody hatchback
Lol cars have only been getting bigger since your day. Look at polo and golf now.
@@harithahmed104" My day" was ment as a joke. An SUV is a 4x4 offroad, ladder frame, low gear ratio and towing vehicle. The Kamiq is nothing more than at best a small crossover. Tell me what is the sport utility aspect of the kamiq?
Bogdan Comanescu You’re living in the past my friend. SUV is simply a body class of car rather than a sport or designated type of drive.
SUVs are more popular then ever, so every manufacturer wants in on it, get used to it.
@@MakinaMakinaMakina yeah but how is this an SUV lol. It's a hatchback. There's been cars like it for decades but it's only now they're being called SUVs.
R H It’s miles bigger than a hatchback though? Why you so salty about it haha
Carwow,
Im from Kazakhstan and I regularly watch your videos !
I like this chanel
9:43 “as a torch” 😂 his face
Hahaahah penniwise
Looks like Matt found his mojo again. Great and fun review!.
This is really pushing the boundaries of what a SUV is. A slightly raised hatchback for me. Makes sense, though.
I thought it was a hatchback from the thumbnail
Always puts a smile on my face watching fun reviews
Nice car and video. Thanks for sharing. Watching from San Francisco. USA.
Just got one of these as a rental in Italy. Hadn't driven a Skoda before. I am actually impressed how well it drives. It's fairly quiet and smooth, the 6-speed manual works great, I don't know which motor it has, but it gets up to speed on the Autostrada. Could always use more power though. I like to drive, though, so we'll see how it handles through the twisty mountain roads. Unless they swap me out again, I'll have it for six months and that does not worry me. They gave me a Seat Arona before and the thought of that thing for another six months was causing me to lose sleep.
the armrest in the back is optional (I have it in my kamiq) the trims differ in my country, I have even the front dynamic indicators as standard
I would never give my car to Matt for a review :'D
Ikr he is sooooo rough!
Carwow-The best car reviews on UA-cam, period.
Ah now that's just silly talk, for example....... ua-cam.com/video/drkALluou3I/v-deo.html
CargurusUK is better
I'm all for the old school handbrake. Unless the cable snaps they just work. Electronic ones have broken in the past 2 vehicles I have owned due to electrical problems etc.
7:37 place for the ladies hand bag to get stuck..
Very good review! I live in country, where Kamiq is produced. I think Kamiq does not look like so pretty as competitors, but it is practical, roomy, modern a bargain compact crossover. Kamiq is built on base of VW T-CROSS, but it is in segment of OPEL MOKKA,VW T-ROC, KIA XCEED, FORD PUMA, no in segment of OPEL CROSSLAND X, VW T-CROSS, KIA STONIC, FORD ECOSPORT.
Agree
I got a software update for my Scala with the same menu issue. Works a charm!
Is this like a Seat Arona? had one on loan from a garage the other day while car was in for a service. The Arona was a 1.0L petrol 115BHP and DSG, absolutely blew me away how well it drove, would never have guessed it had such a small engine. Smooth, quiet, great ride and sophisticated feeling for such a modest offering!
Drinking game: Everytime Mat refers to another carwow review, you have to take a shot
*Dies of alcohol overconsumption
However, Škoda made a great car out of Kamiq. They did the same with other cars, like Octavia, Kodiaq, Fabia and so on... Quality of Skoda cars is awesome, trust me.
After countless visits to auto shops and talking to other people about it finally made a decision to buy this car hopefully its reliable as they say it is. Its my first time buying a skoda. Love the panoramic roof and the virtual cockpit though, An option worth adding.
Hey, can you share your opinion on the car-3:57 Do you like it ? Pros and cons as well
That luggage toss had some strong rockstar vibe in it
Skoda has presented us some very serious models the last years and in some cases, it is better to choose a Skoda over a boring VW and Seat
Seat is boring? i dont think so. at least not the current Leon. (the new one looks like I-30 and sportage made an ugly child)
Gabriel W seat was always boring. Even if they produce a Leon or Ibiza with 500hp, it will be again boring. Nothing serious. They new leon has some nice led lights, but again is boring.
Totally agree Stavros... Especially when we are talking about about VW which is low quality and expensive and Seat which is definitely boring. For me the new 2008 is the best and Kamiq comes in second place.
kwtsakos1 i also love the 2008 but I promised to myself to never buy a Peugeot again. Worst interior materials, Very bad peugeot clutch feeling etc. my choice in this category is KIA stonic.
Sorry but Skoda is by far the most boring car you can drive
This car looks cool I wouldnt mind trying it it's an exciting small good looking SUV
years ago nknowone would dare do a review on a skoda but theyv really upped there game i like that
Great Video Review. SE L Is my favourite Trim. Later this year a New Monte Carlo will Join the range
When’s the naturally aspirated v8 version coming out?
Every Skoda review ooo look an ice scraper, torch and a hidden brolly... Skoda make great cars even without the little trinkets
I like the confidence he has in his editors. He keeps mentioning the "pop-up banner" in almost every video and in almost every video they forget to add it😂🤣
I see Škoda had a little inspiration in the front styling from the Nissan Juke... smaller light attached to the grille and bigger light below.
It's nice knowing that cars that get inspiration from the Juke come up looking much better.
Quite a few nods towards the A3 Sportback in the external looks. I like it, I suppose that just as in half empty versus half full, one person's 'bland and boring' is another person's 'smart and classy'. One of the best in class ground clearances will attract some.
the ground clearence is definitely a key point for me, because I live in Romania, the land of potholes and fucked up roads.
Yo love your videos
My 1978 BMW 320i had a removable/rechargeable torch in the glovebox...
I love how you always try to fit the parcel shelf underneath.
There is so much crap already stored there that I don't see it ever fit XD
This is on the same level the Old topgear was on. 👏🏼👏🏼
I love auto-generated subtitles - it just remade “infotainment screen” into “IMPOTENT screen”!!! Well, that explains it

Great review as always
I really like Mats reviews especially of more "affordable" cars because they are just fun to watch. The other ones are great too, but they are just not usefull to me, besides beeing entertaining. It would be great when you could do few more reviews of the first kind.
Great review
I actually love how this car looks. Clean, classic, elegant and it has everything you need. Love how VW didn't change the classic look through the years as well. I don't like sporty cars though. I reeealy dislike Fiesta's and generally Ford's new 'fishy' facelift. Those cars look like shark faces. Also hate when my car's dash is distracting. It's definitely personal taste.
I agree
Why this car presenters behave like nervous breakdown is just 5 minutes to come?
Agree. If he was like this in early Feb 2020, WTF is he like now (mid-Jan 2021)? Has probably set about the bodywork with a lump hammer, then doused whole vehicle in petrol and set light to it ...
It's coming to India with the name Kushaq
Hey great videos you do there! Anyone knows which color option is this?
It's funny because I just watched your review of the new Audi A3 and you loved the rear interior door handles yet you have slated them in this Kamiq.... They are the same handle😂
4:00 Would be funny if the abused water bottle burst all over matt 🤣
Nice review but just to point out again that, while I like Waze, it can only do route planning if you've got a data connection.
Hey mat, could you please compare the economy to similar vehicles and maybe even translate into liters/100 km? It's easy to realize and it would really help me and all the other europeans
Skoda's best SUV for sure!!!
Love the way he starts his videos
Looking at getting one in the 1.5 petrol automatic, I do short journeys to work then longer journeys on the weekends (1-3 hours) it looks ideal!!
I love when Matt says R without the accent
Rrrrecline
I love how mat constantly attacks Skodas when he gets them to review
Kinda weird though how he didn't throw the parsel shelf in this vid.
Edit: Wow mat 12:30 I dont think we would have ever thought that the car turns left when u turn the steering wheel left🤣
A car wow video a day keeps bore away
Thanks for the likes this is the highest I have ever got
Thanks car wow for giving a heart to my comment
I forgot if I edit it will go away
I am driving a Kodiaq and I have tried Karoq a couple of times for a test-drive. From the SUV's, Kodiaq is definitely the best. Saw Kamiq at the dealership when I brought my Kodiaq for a scheduled service inspection... It's nice from the inside (digital display and so on), but the boot looks a little bit too small. It might just be an optical illusion, but Scala looked way better than Kamiq when comparing it one after another.
On the Karoq, it usually felt a little bit too jumpy & rocky on the speedbumps, Kodiaq handles those way better :) And when you compare the pricing of its peers, it's definitely the one to go from pricing perspective - has best value for money :)
Also looking forward to seeing more new Octavias! Those looked incredible during their reveal.
We have kushaq in India ie based on kamiq and skoda has distributed features in both cars equally instead of making it perfect for both countries. Like touch AC, better steering in kamiq and digital MID and lumbar support in kushaq
Mat's getting more and more aggressive towards car & suitcase treatment as time passes 😅
2:09 Distance travelled: 420 km
Guess someone at Skoda has some good sense of humour.
JFK422 why
Great looking car for the money lots of great poke when you need it. Very comfortable. Good all round vision
I have 1996 opel corsa and I still don't put the partial shelf on the ground to not damage it like you did.
"What makes us human?"
*NO, not this again.*
I literally got that ad after reading your comment
I got 4 till now 😂😂
Mat did you have a argument with your wife before this review.
I have a skoda fabia, and I am planning to get a small SUV and must say the skoda kamiq looks reasonable for my budget.
I think Mat should review the driving assistances on more vehicles like u did on the Mercedes A Class and the VW Golf MK8. If it isint as relevant for the car I would suggest putting that subject as a separate video like the infotainment and practicality ones! Thanks:)
Journalists should adapt (just like companies do). New luxury became all these safety crap. Then, there's difference if car can drive itself on motorway (Kamiq, Juke...) or it can't (Mazda CX30...). Also, Kamiq has Side Assist which sees 70m back, usually cars see 20m back. Should be mentioned for every car. Innovate something in videos.
Luka Veselić Yeah that’s quite a good way to put it :) Oh it’s quite nice to know that usually cars only see 20m! Also the CX30 has lane centring (finally from Mazda) if u look at the technology part of the website because it’s got the new systems from mazda
Luka Veselić of course some there are specific videos on the safety stuff but the whole point of these reviews is to put it all together so c’mon Mat and carwow!!
3:21 Nice advertising for Skoda with the check engine light😂
Don't think the engine was started

"From the back... It looks like this!."
I was like... "oh was that a back. I thought it's a front"
Don't hate Skoda that much Matt.
Skodas have been getting better and better everyday! Obviously it's because it was done with Volkswagen brains and body, this car has a very three dimensional and sturdy look love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥 best car review channel on the internet by far and also the funniest and most cheeky personality for a car reviewer ever!!!! 😂😂😂😂💪💪💪💪
