Many brands do this. They leave the raw plastic look for a rugged look and the all painted trim for the sporty trims. Audi does the same, Seat does the same… and they even add more plastic on the “all terrain” versions.
Yes. That's the style today. Make a regular car, jack it up, call it a crossover or SUV. Subaru did this but they used to just call them off-roaders and they were good off-road. Now it's just for style or for the somewhat higher drive position.

I think this would sell well in Canada against vehicles like the Kona, Soul, Kicks, Trailblazer, etc. VW needs something in the low 20's to slot under the Taos.
I agree. I recently traded in my well worn gti and considered the taos but it was too big for what i wanted or needed....i wanted to stay with vw but they had nothing to offer me so i went with a competitor. Vw really does need something smaller than the taos. Having lived in Europe i know vw has many good offerings, tho, sadly, vw does not see fit to sell them in the n. American market. Imo, they are losing lots of market share by abandoning the smaller end of the n. Amer. Market.
It looks a lot like the Subaru Crosstrek. Mostly from the side. I could see this being a big seller as the Crosstrek is very popular. I guess we like the hatchback look but raised up for practicality. I feel that way at least lol
