**dongle is called Lightning to sd or micro sd. ( android is usbc to sd) Apple one is kinda expensive, just get a non branded one. Also - going on a lil vacation until jan 8th. Still have content to post but it won’t be daily! Happy holidays everyone

Orrrrr. I have another option just backup your phone then restart it, once you sign back in you will have more storage available. I can’t explain it without it sounding dumb but it works.

Actually if you backup the phone and reset then restore the backup, the “Other” files get deleted (usually useless stuff like caches, etc.) and for me that’s the most storage hogging thing

That feature was added along side with iPadOS. Since iPad OS is iOS, they both get the same features. You couldn't use OTG's before iOS 13. (iPad OS was not a thing yet)

I’m getting ready to shoot a short action film with my friend in the coming months, and was worried because I want to record it in 4K on my iPhone XR, however I only have 64gb, and like 48gb is taken up, 20 of it by pictures and videos. Now I can just buy a couple hundred gigabyte sd cards and use those to keep sending the 4K footage over!
If you plan to shoot many many GBs of video, buying an hard drive or even a SSD will be worth it.
And will you be posting that short film on UA-cam, I would like to see it all the best :)

I used to have this problem but then I got myself a phone with a large amount of internal storage PLUS an SD card with a one terabyte capacity so no more problems ... good luck & peace to you all 🖖

Idk if anyone with androids watch these, but I'm directing this to people with LG's:
With a Micro SD you can put images, music, videos and part of some apps' storage (if you go to settings; general/other; storage, you can press on the apps and see which can be put in the micro sd)
They also have already a system where you can make a security copy of your data in a micro sd.
Because phones build up data over time, even if you have no apps other than necessary, you'll run out of storage eventually. You have an option to set your phone as brand new, it was put so you can resell the phone from 0. If you made the security copy you get everything back, ocupying much less space, you'll just have to change the settings to suit what you had beforehand.

This is a method that works, it’s just you need to physically connect something to transfer it. What I use when my iCloud gets full, is I use Google Photos. I’ll upload all my photos and videos for free, it comes with 15gb standard. Although I like the idea of a dongle makes it more secure, in the long term.

@@admiraljamster well, I've actually used Android all my life. Currently have the Redmi Note 10 Pro. It's not "applefan" logic. You're just clearly ignoring the purpose and target audience of this specific video. If you need a new phone, then definitely go Android. You'll get so much more for your money. But if you just need more storage and have a microSD card lying about, then it really doesn't make sense to buy a £250 phone instead of a £10 dongle.

Nah, i just use the 50GB tier of iCloud for that. And on my Mac I have a script which copies the files from Photos (which is set to "Download originals to Mac") to my Nextcloud. That way, nothing is ever gone and everything always accessible, even if i have to free up space.

@@sontapaa11jokulainen94 no idea, tbh. It's a constant background process and not noticeable. Also, probably helps, that my Nextcloud is hosted in my basement. (I have 25 Mbit/s upstream through my ISP, so that's sufficient, if i ever need something on the go.)
Why mine wont sync to icloud? I already paired it but every time i upload from sd card to phone its says i need more space
Google Workspace provides a free 15 GB of storage, Proton Drive provides 512 MB out of the box but I did some offers and got 1 GB, and Terabox gives 1 TB/1024 GB of storage, all for free, but Terabox has been accused of selling user data and is ad supported.

I have about 1/4 to 1/3 of my phone storage left. Half of what is used up is IOS updates and other system stuff like that, and the other half is games / other apps. Mostly games like Evertale and Rocket League Sideswipe. So this wouldn’t really help as photos take up almost nothing.

also, if you hate using dongles or external drives, set up a samba server. It's easy to do, and basically you can access it with a file explorer, just hope that an iPhone can do it because I have an Android.

An easy way to expand storage (iOS only) is to try to buy/rent a movie from iTunes that requires more storage than you have left. The system will free up space in the background before saying “not enough storage”. Repeat this process a couple of times and it can free up gigabytes lol.
this one still costs something. for those unfamiliar, you could create a number of gmail accounts and have 15gb free cloud storage in google drive and google photos. then go download google photos, log in your details then start your backup. honestly i dont keep photos on my phone because it automatically backs up on google photos. then all i do is just delete it after it finishes the backup. in case you need the photo again, you can save each and every photo/video you upload.
I'm not familiar as I refuse to use apple after several bad experiences.
You can also clear cache for alot of stuff like UA-cam, twitter, etc.

If you screenshot a lot (like myself). I never realised how much storage they actually take up until I deleted a bunch of them and I freed up a decent amount of space. If your struggling with storage & have lots of useless screenshots, try this.
When I take screenshots, I tap the screenshot after screenshotting, tap share, then send it to whoever I wanted to send it to, then delete. So I don’t have screenshots cluttering up my phone, then have to take forever later to go through them all. And if you need the screenshot back, it’s in the recently deleted, which auto deletes after 30 days. By that point you probably wouldn’t want it anymore, so I just let it auto delete
You can also disable iCloud for photos in setting which deletes all of your current photos and videos and they are saved on you cloud account. This means that they’re not gone, you can access them at any point and they’re not saved on your device. You can also put them back on your device by simply enabling iCloud photos again.

Just use iCloud, and it can backup all the images there, and delete them from your phone, but can still see them. Nothing changes unless if you have slow internet or if you have no internet.
3utools is also a solution by backing up the iPhone memory

Actually, it’s just because you ICloud is full. My mom more than 1,000 photos on her phone because she doesn’t upload them to her ICloud. You can turn off ICloud for photos in the settings, but it is a good idea to upload your stuff on drives.
Or you could just turn on optimize photos. It saves you about 50 gigs it's awesome!

On Andoid the maximum capacity what you can connect to it without external power supply is 5TB if you use 2.5 inch HDD, 30TB if you use 2.5" SSD, and if you use external power supply, then you can go way more beyon this, unfortunatelly I don't know the limitations for that. (On android 10 you can watch movies directly from an external HDD, on Android 5 it has to import the videofile as a temporary file)
I have one of these but for transportation my photograph off of my camera and it is literally so useful I suggest it if you want to do what he said or what I said

Samsung Android was/is famously stating memory being used up within 2 yrs. For me, I expect it, because I love Recordings Videos and Audio for Court; and taking photos and downloading 🎶 to chill!
So, I got the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus with 1T internal memory AND added the 512 micro SD card. Doing well, almost 2 years later ...
