The prison break was a huge metaphor for the overall story. For all it's seemingly unassailable control and the hopelessness of the prisoners if they scratch not too far below the surface they realise they can win. They can escape, they can get away. Just like you can destroy a Death Star or take on a Star Destroyer. Hope is born.
The final overhead shot of the prisoners swimming away was a visual metaphor with an abstract of the Imperial symbol breached and starting to bleed out the people it was imprisoning.
I loved how Stellans monologue mirrored what Andy Serkis had just done knowing he wouldn't escape because he couldn't swim. Sacrificed himself to free everyone for a sunset he would never see. A hero that was needed.

Greg saying ‘I can’t wait to talk about Andy’s performance this episode’ at the BEGINNING when we know Andy is about to drop a great episodic performance. POETRY. And Stellan Skarsgard…..LEGEND
What a great episode. I absolutely LOVE espionage genre shows and movies. The Moscow Rules used by Luthen’s people takes me back to those movies. The Coventry aspect, with Luthen as Churchill, sacrificing his own to keep his man in ISB in tact. Luthen’s and Kino’s speech was EPIC!! The heroes at the beginning of the Rebellion is becoming as iconic as the ones who were glorified at the end. Kino’s arc was so well written .. I’m with you guys, Kino Lives!!!
I never planned to watch this show and in fact had decided to skip because of the disappointment of Obi-wan, but Andor is beyond incredible. It gives us a perfect glimpse of the stakes involved in taking down the Emperor; it gives us a scope of the importance of the lives of those who aren't the chosen one and gives us greater depth to the evil of the Emperor's reign. I didn't think I would care for Andor because I knew how Cassian would die and didnt care how he lived, but the atmosphere, the stakes, the realism of this series is more than I could have ever grasped was possible in SW. Well done!
This episode was pure perfection! Everything about it (the writing, acting, direction, cinematography, vfx) was impeccably done and left me completely spellbound. This is Star Wars at its very best!
What a season so far. Damn. They pulled of a riveting multi episode prison break arc basically with few sets and a couple of external cg shots. The writing, acting and the directing is so so good.
seems like some of the really well crafted shows/movies are a collaboration of siblings: the russo brothers with infinity war, the wachowskis with the matrix, the duffer brothers with stranger things, and now the gilroys with andor.
I watched this episode a couple of hours ago and I REALLLY enjoyed it. This show is so FREAKING UNDERRATED & Andy Serkis' performance was awesome. I wish he had made it, but I knew that this was probably the last time we would see him.
This is the best episode of star wars TV I've seen. Granted the bar isn't too high after obi wan and boba fett but this episode was amazing, goosebumps the entire time. 👌
@@tfouto I dunno about movies as well that's a bold claim I'm not willing to make just yet 😅 but this is easily best TV moment, proper acting and storytelling that had me feeling nervous and emotional throughout. Star wars has never made me feel like that really other than maybe Rogue One.

This episode was great man. Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard are both just amazing this episode! Made me tear up during the escape scene with Andy Serkis telling other prisoners to get out was probably my best scene in the show so far. Just Wow.
You guys are legit one of if not the fastest lads alive with the reactions! Absolutely appreciate your guys' reactions from this banger of a show, keep it going!
Kino knew he couldn’t swim and that he’d have to swim. He knew he wasn’t leaving but that’s what makes his monologue and his ability to rally the troops in that moment even greater because, like Luthen, he gave his life to make a sunrise he knew he’d never see but his comrades would. Perfect.
The fact that Luthen is willing to let Kreiger and his crew die to keep his ISB operative is like the Allies knowing that Coventry was going to be bombed in WW2 and letting it happen to keep the secret that Enigma was broken.
What a great episode! I would love to see more of the undercity of Coruscant. Though I don't expect that likely for the end of this season. Im excite for the 2 part finale!
Andor is such a treat. Ep 1 & 2 to give you a kick of Ep 3, then slow down a bit with ep 4 & 5 to give you another kick with ep 6...then another build up with 7 - 9 for ep 10 to kick in...love this show even more than HotD
I think this might be the best episode so far. Between the excitement of the breakout, the tense left turn scene with Mon, and the showstopper performances by Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard, as well as the music, I was glued from start to finish.
Wow wow wow wow wow, those monologues kind of sent chills. That Luthen dagger had me wanting to enlist. Besides the fact that he absolutely doesn't mind throwing bodies to the wind in principle, he did convey conviction to the cause. "Doesn't mind" may be a little strong...actually he sees the cost and is willing to pay it for...the greater good? He and others like him have the mind set that this fight is too important and have to win by any means necessary, including tactics that The Empire itself would use if given the chance. So, fighting fire with fire is on the table and breaking a few eggs to make cake is the recipe they are ok with. Or...a handler will say anything to keep his asset on board....the asset wouldn't know, we do...so far anyway, no reason not to believe what he has said. Only reason I say that is because this is the spy game...would be crazy as shit if Luthen were some high level Empire plant double agent or working for who knows who in the end playing the long game.
You guys are always the first to post reaction videos. You both rock, thank you for your dedication and hard work. On a side note this was an absolutely, incredible episode!! This is the best Star War series to date!!
The monologues in this episode are so so powerful. The writing, the delivery, the moment came together masterfully. Andor is now officially an instigator of rebellion; thus it begins.
Im so glad we are atleast getting season 2 and the conclusion of this despite its lack luster viewership. If they complete this series with the quality that we have already seen it may stand as one of the greatest series of all time imo. This is truly a masterpiece, i was shaking in tension this whole episode. This is the power of the slow build and tension.
I was standing jumping up and down shouting as my morning exercise and waking my parents up this morning telling me to shut up hahaha. The ending also gave me chills we almost seen a much younger emperor reveal. We will see his reveal in the last episode of this season. Like we saw rogue one with vader and younger princess. :)

Wow! I mean wow! This was definitely my favorite one so far, I really loved it. This episode was just so amazing. I feel like everything in this episode was just so perfect, the build up, the writing, the emotion and the acting. Not to mention how tense this was, especially when they first started to riot, I was sitting on the edge of my seat, super worried but engaged. The entire breakout scene was also really awesome, just seeing all the prisoners getting each other out and then running through the halls to the exit while the guards became scared and hid was cool. And I’ve got to talk about Andy Serkis’ performance as Kino in this episode. Just seeing his breakdown and realization at the beginning of the episode was so amazing but his speech near the end of the episode just took this performance over the top. Andy Serkis did an incredible job at portraying this character and I can’t imagine anyone else being able to pull off this character’s arc and emotion like he did. And I really, really hope that in the next episode we find out that one of the other prisoners helped him get to land. And Stellan Skarsgård’s preference as Luthen in this episode was also amazing, just hearing different emotions coming through while giving that great monologue was amazing and it was really able to sell me on everything Luthen has gone through and is trying to achieve. This show has been so incredible so far I cannot wait to see the final two episodes and see how all the story lines come together and how they will conclude.
Poor Kino, I feel like he could have been helped to the shore if they didn't push Cassian, I hope he made it out somehow and we see him in the next episodes or in season 2 (like, surprise! he's alive) he's too great of a character to be killed off now
I had to pause the episode at around 27 minute mark as the adrenaline rush was too much and I needed to calm down. Never happened to me before with any piece of media ever.
I love that this plot revolved around water coming from one of those non-descript pipes in the wall. They're always either electrical conduits, or steam for some reason. Just some cool-looking structures we don't know much about. But never plumbing, which every ship would of course need. Great way to bring realism to the imposing Imperial base trope.
Both Andy Serkis and Diego Luna in this episode kinda reminded me of Shawshank Redemption in a way. Trying to hold on to the one thing that will get them out and Cassian had it since he first got in that prison... HOPE. Aww My Heart!!! 🏆🏆🏆
I just can't believe how freaking good this show is comparing it to the whole sequels trilogy. Watching that mustache guy revealing he's a rebel intelligencer inside the top imperial command, and that ridiculous scene of general hux from ep 9(if anyone even remembers that guy) revealing he's one... This show, after all of that "im rey skywalker" nightmare, really bringed me hope and I really haven't had such chills from watching star wars since probably rogue one. Sorry for my english, not my first language.
Im lucky that im alone watching this cause i literally screamed on top my lungs like im charging into battle. I really grab myself a weapon like im in a real prison break. Great acting great execution perfect perfect perfect!!
Holy shit what an episode. It felt tense throughout the entire episode, I was sitting on the edge of my seat. The music was so epic, the shots were amazing, the monologues were awesome. Andy Serkis acted his ass off for this episode and it was so satisfying to watch. I hope Kino survived and shows up sometime, you can never have too much Andy Serkis
"And what do you sacrifice?" "Calm. Kindness, kinship. Love. I've given up all chance at inner peace. I've made my mind a sunless place. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there's only one conclusion; I'm damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my...my eagerness to fight, they've set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down, there was no longer any ground beneath my feet. What is my...what is my sacrifice? I'm condemned to use the tools of my enemy, to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else's future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude. So what do I sacrifice? Everything!"
What I love about this show is that you truly FEEL the stakes. They're not just telling you the Empire is bad and needs to be taken down, they show it through meaningful side characters and plot points that this is a regime that will become even more powerful and implement a harsher iron fist if something isn't done. And while that "something" is the heroic Rebellion...that's not all sunshine and rainbows either. Even the Rebellion does some questionable things, sacrificing their own and other peoples' livelihoods for a possible pipe dream cause. Because even if they may not be there in the end to witness the victory, they know they're doing their parts to instill hope and purpose to the masses...creating a better future for the next generation. What a poignant way to describe today's social climate within the phenomenal world of Star Wars!
The fucking acting this episode, holy shit! Serkis' was phenomenal, topped off with the gut-wrenching, bittersweet "I can't swim!"... Skarsgard, though? Holy fuck. Hollleeeeee fuuuuuccckkkk. "What have I sacrificed? EVERYTHING!" Sent a shiver down my spine. "I share my dreams with ghosts." "I burned my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see." "The ego the started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude." He killed that scene. What an episode, man. What solid television.

I can't swim either. Ironically, I have 2 friends that drowned... 1 was this January... and they were both strong swimmers. I had to watch this episode in segments although doing so only prolonged the stress. Give Andy the Emmy!
Your point at 37:00 ish is even reflected in the events of the prison break. The first few to act, primarily the new guy and the guy who helped Cassian plan the breakout, died. Those who led the charge were most susceptible to blaster fire. It is tragic yet inspiring to reflect on.

That speech...."What have I sacrificed? EVERYTHING!!"...OMG, I've watched it many times, I preactically memorized it. So epic.
To me its the best Star hour ever. Including all movies.
@@tfouto I dunno about movies as well that's a bold claim I'm not willing to make just yet 😅 but this is easily best TV moment, proper acting and storytelling that had me feeling nervous and emotional throughout. Star wars has never made me feel like that really other than maybe Rogue One.
@@tfouto agreed now. Episode 10 of Andor is the greatest piece of Star Wars material ever. No offense to all my other favorites...
this is S tier star wars, nothing is better. even the movies. best writing, best casting, best acting, best cinematography. everything. perfection. this show makes everything else look like a cartoon.
This episode was great man. Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard are both just amazing this episode! Made me tear up during the escape scene with Andy Serkis telling other prisoners to get out was probably my best scene in the show so far. Just Wow.
Yeah dude it got me too.. jesus
What a great title, too. “One Way Out” applies to so many characters we focused on for this episode.
This has been the only thing I’ve been looking forward to since HOTD ended.
Luthen's speech at the end: CHILLZ!
I think this might be the best episode so far. Between the excitement of the breakout, the tense left turn scene with Mon, and the showstopper performances by Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard, as well as the music, I was glued from start to finish.
Amazing performances by both Andy Serkis and Stellan Skarsgard!
The fact that Kino is certainly a good man makes me wonder what got him his sentence and breaks my heart even more.
You guys are always the first to post reaction videos. You both rock, thank you for your dedication and hard work. On a side note this was an absolutely, incredible episode!! This is the best Star War series to date!!
Step 1: Secure the keys.
Step 2: Ascend from the darkness.
Step 3: Reign Fire.
Step 4: Unleash the horde.
Step 5: Skewer the winged beast.
Step 6: Wield a fist of iron.
Step 7: Raise Hell.
Step 8: Freedom
COME ON REZNOV!!! FREEDOM!!!!!!!!!!!! For YOU MASON!!!
The monologues in this episode are so so powerful. The writing, the delivery, the moment came together masterfully.
Andor is now officially an instigator of rebellion; thus it begins.
No single Star Wars movie or TV show has moved me in the way this episode did. What a show.
😂
Somehow this episode squeezed in one of the best prison break movies I have seen in decades.
I was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time.
"Someone better float a door his way" 😉
Not only was this the best episode of Andor so far it's probably my top 5 TV episodes of all time.
New guy immediately knew what was up and contributed to the cause by taking out a guard. RIP new guy. o7
i haven't gotten chills watching Star Wars for years. Years! I got them virtually this entire episode.
Absolutely love how the sketchy banking guy is named Davos. After The city where the elite technocrats and multi billionaires meets every year.
If you weren't chanting along during the escape, then you have no soul.
I think the nominees for Best Actor will be:
Skellan Skarsgard-Andor
Paddy Constidine-HOTD
Nominess for Best Supporting actor possibly:
Andy Serkis-Andor
TBD
Possible Best Actress nominees:
Gene O'Reily-Andor
Emily Carey-HOTD
Best Episode so far BY FAR, hope we get to see Kino again he was an amazing character
*ONE WAY OUT* !
Inmates. Together. Strong.
Wow!
Can’t tell who had a better speech Kino or Luthen both were 🔥
Poor Kino, I feel like he could have been helped to the shore if they didn't push Cassian, I hope he made it out somehow and we see him in the next episodes or in season 2 (like, surprise! he's alive) he's too great of a character to be killed off now
Andor has made me love Star Wars again
OHHH A QUICK UPLOAD.. This episode was outstanding and just super emotional. Can't wait to see what happens these last 2 episodes.
My favorite show of the year. Period.
This episode was incredible. Andy Serkis is a powerhouse
Both Andy Serkis and Diego Luna in this episode kinda reminded me of Shawshank Redemption in a way. Trying to hold on to the one thing that will get them out and Cassian had it since he first got in that prison... HOPE. Aww My Heart!!! 🏆🏆🏆
“I can’t swim” I’ve never been more heartbroken for a Star Wars character
Everyone: This show is so slow and boring
Me: I’m so tense and hyped and emotionally wrecked every episode
"And what do you sacrifice?"
"Calm.
The fact that after all that Kino cant swim broke my damn heart omg
"POWER DOESN'T PANIC!"
"I share my dreams with ghosts."
"I burned my life to make a sunrise that I know I'll never see."
"The ego the started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude."
He killed that scene.
What an episode, man. What solid television.
I love this show so so much. The kind of Star Wars content I've dreamed of for so long. Beside ST4 this is easily the best show of the year
To think this came from the same company as the the SEQUEL TRILOGY blows my mind. What a show 👏
That dark walkway at the end looked like it belonged in a sith showdown
For sure.
This episode gave me shivers and made me cry. This show is fucking amazing. Anyone who says this is boring is out of their minds.
This episode alone is some of the best Star Wars I have ever seen.
I definitely cried when that pan out of the prison and the prisoners all swimming off. Also watching Keno watch everyone leave without him.
It is tragic yet inspiring to reflect on.
i was on edge this entire episode and it was great, i wish more people would watch andor.
Dude the pure hype for the rebellion was strong in this episode. I mean hell the lead-up has been magnificent. The speech by Andy Serkis was breathtaking with the music building behind it & then Skarsgaard explains sacrifice...god damn man I really hope Kino made it
"I burn my life to make a sunrise I know I'll never see."
Wow.
