    • @auditingbelfast
      @auditingbelfast 4 роки тому

      Andrian Motelica 0:57 "And keep it." This is where I find problems using this pass. When I try to keep it, he retracts his arm back and I either lose the grip or my gripping hand ends up on the floor... Btw it's not like I'm lacking bicep strength. I also train weights. But it seems trying to hold his arm down at that angle is much less strong than his leverage to pull it back.

  • @Bluebuthappy182

    Man I'm so happy you said the guard pass at 2.45 was crap. I've been killing myself trying to do it for the last two weeks and all it does is give time to the guy on the bottom to take a rest. I'll try this and see how it goes

    • @ChiStriker
      @ChiStriker 9 років тому +1

      Bluebuthappy182 Yeah I can do some closed guard breaks from kneeling, but they always seem to take a lot more energy than the standing guard breaks. Plus if the guy on the bottom is smart at all hes just going to go over your knee if you try to use the knee to split him to break his guard

    Hey, I'm a white belt AND an old guy! Actually I don't tend to grip fight at all when in someone's guard. I usually just grab their belt with both hands and then go straight to a single underhook pass. Usually works for me - even with young guys and higher belts! ;-) Getting under the leg is usually easy - once you put one arm out they usually go straight for a triangle, so they put their leg up on your shoulder for you. Obviously make sure the inside arm is well back and protected so you don't get triangled. Then just grab the opposite collar with the outside arm and stack them up and pass the leg. I think I got into this habit when I started BJJ because it was the only guard pass I could remember from my judo days years ago.

    I'm going to be the greatest day 1 white belt ever. I'm starting next week, but I've watched maybe 30 videos at least 2-3 times each over the past month. Videos like "Jiu-jitsu 101, Top 10 beginner mistakes, how to escape mount, sweeps from the guard, etc. I've even practiced some techniques either by pretending I'm grappling with an imaginary person (cut me some slack), or with my siblings.
    I honestly feel like I already have a pretty solid base. I know most of the terms, as well as knowing not to do dumb shit like giving up my arms and neck while in the guard. Also know a handful of takedowns from the knees (since most rolling starts from the knees.

    • @ryanarchuleta6231
      @ryanarchuleta6231 8 років тому +1

      Tutorial Cool cool I did okay. When I was drilling, I was kind of flopping around a bit trying to remember exactly how to do the technique we were going over. It was basically how to escape when someone has a seatbelt grip from behind, and their legs wrapped.
      I think I pissed of some chick though. She's a blue belt, but when it was my turn to have her from behind, I politely asked "do you want me to really try to not let you go" She said "If you want me to go hard on you", so when she kind of tilted me over and scooted her legs around, I'd kind of scoot along with her movements, and if she'd pop my legs open, I'd just kind of put them back in the same position. Took her about a minute to get out, and when she stood up, she gave me the death stare.

    • @MatthewElliott
      @MatthewElliott 7 років тому

      no videos can replace sparring but they help for more experienced students. You need to develop flexibility, explosive power, stamina, wrist strength and mental strength. I just started Jujitsu it was like I was playing chess but didn't know the pieces. I'm pretty strong (deadlift 300kg) but against guys half my size who were bluebelts I'd get submitted all the time. The coach thought I was a wrestler because I managed to launch people my size off me who had me mounted. I'll keep going it's great seeing experience beat strength every time

    hey question for my other jiujitsu guys out there! is the reason you swap grips after standing, because if you were to hold the grip whilst kneeling, as your trying to stand up the pant grip on that site would fight against you standing up?

    • @KillerInstinct2006
      @KillerInstinct2006 8 років тому +2

      +addrulzamerica Jiu jitsu is a fight, so sometimes it's not always going to be easy, but if you use two on one and utilize different grip breaks using two on one, it shouldn't take a lot of strength to break grips... It's just a matter of getting two on one. So you have to start the grip fighting immediately, before they get solid grips on you, this is always true of jiu jitsu though. You always want to get good grips first, that's half the battle.
