- 50 Things I Quit to Simplify My Life
I’ve been simplifying my life for multiple years now, and I feel like the more I have let go of things that don’t serve me anymore, the more I’ve been able to understand myself and my priorities better, and focus on the things that actually matter.
Today I sat down, and the idea was to reflect and write 20 things I’ve quit, but then I went for a walk and they just kept coming and I decided to keep going. Some of these ended up being very practical things and some deeper things, so feel free to get some inspiration from this video, no need to quit everything I have listed 🤗
Here are 50 things I’ve quit to simplify my life.

What have you quit recently? 🪴
Obsessing over UA-cam analytics lol. 🙏🏼
Great video Seve :) You suggested me very good ideas and your videos are always brilliant and positive. I ve also quit most of those 50. Simplicity gives me peace and joy. There is one more thing we both ( I guess ?) quit which is consuming animal products. It helped me a lot in being more conscious and present while I purchase something. And also I don't waste time anymore waiting for long food digestions. (But that's a big bonus, first of all I am vegan for the animals)
@@FinanciallyPowerful I feel you 😄
@@davidiruya657 Thank you! Yeah that is one thing I have quit too. Been vegan for the animals & planet for 5 ish years now 🌱 Thanks for noticing it :)

Well said 😉😉
Anybody else find listening to this guy relaxing?
Yes, very much so.
🌱❤ Thank u
The most pleasant voice!
Yes, Seve's simplicity & tone of voice is relaxing. Unburdening is the word...God bless you Seve!
In love with
I got rid of all social media exept for youtube. UA-cam helps me learn more with fixing my own vehicle or whatever needs fixed. No facebook or instagram. It is so peaceful
So true and well done! I love youtube as a social media too. So helpful content easily available 😊
Honestly I think I need to quit UA-cam I'm constantly on it, I naturally not addicted to other social media apart from UA-cam
I want to do
For clothes just hang it all backwards at beginning of each season. When you use them and wash them put hanger back on right side. End of season go through those you haven’t turned back… saves a lot of time.
That's a brilliant trick! Thank you 😊
Last year I throw away all my letters, greeting cards and also FOTOGRAFS!!! I have saved everything from the year 1970. So I had millions of them. I can remember all those people without any pictures of them. Suddenly it was very easy to throw away everything. 😊 Thanks for your videos ❤
Yeah, if we truly cared about those people, we will remember them ❤️ Thanks for watching :)
You even took the unnecessary t out of steve
😂😂😂👍👍
Yes he sieved it through. Ikr
- trying to beat my PR in sports every time I exercise
- chasing the next shiny object
- being attached to outcome/results
- trying to please everyone
Good ones! I can relate to the 1st one so much being injured now haha 😄
Minimalism is a journey. I stopped buying clothes, shoes and bags unless they are unusable. Even while travelling or vacationing, I stopped taking too much pictures esp. selfie or food pictures. If I do it, its for keepsake and will never be posted online. I store memories in my mind, replaying it over and over, giving me happiness. Everything u enumerated, I agree to most of it and its almost the same with my current lifestyle. #relatemuch
Thanks for sharing these! 😊 Seems like you are doing very well on your own journey, well done 🌱
I am so happy you mention the part about not needing to wake up early to be a "good person"...almost all the time when I was younger people told me that sleeping later was something "lazy" people do. My brain works different than most people, and I sleep at different hours but I always sleep the same amount of hours as most people. I sleep when I want to sleep. I think many times this is something cultural. This is a very good video. Thank you for making it 👍👍
It's not about when you wake up but what you do when you are awake that matters in my opinion 😊 Thanks for the comment!
@@SunnyKindJourney Exactly! 👍
I love Finnish people speaking English… and your content is great, clear and handy. I’m happy to have bumped into your channel Seve! Keep going! Toivon sulle kaikkea hyvää!
I'm glad you found me 🥰 Kiitos ja kaikkea hyvää myös!
Finland looks beautiful
Your journey towards a simplified lifestyle is truly commendable! 🌿 It's a great reminder that minimizing clutter in our lives can significantly enhance our mental clarity and overall happiness.
Thanks! And yeah, it definitely makes an impact 💫
Good video, great topic!
Here are my additions:
- Quit complaining. Talking about your problems with someone and asking for an advice might help, but portraying them as a matter of your bad luck or just telling about it to 10 people wont do anything. Waste of time and emotions.
- Quit eating excessive sugars. Sugar is a fuel for your brain, but dophamine is lile a drug - your brain wants more and more. I always notice how sugar deprivation affects my emotional self-control, and then it settles down after a few days of eating less sugar. Simplifies a lot of stuff (at least for me).
- Quit trying to prove something to someone. You're not gonna change a person's view in an instant. Especially online lol
- Quit forcing a creative output. As David Lynch said "Get a setup and just wait".
Excellent ones ✌️ Thank you!
I find your videos so refreshing, and I am very happy to see so many young people like you having such a healthy and positive outlook onto their lives. Keep on going! Your 53 year old fan from France!
Merci! 🌿❤️
I don’t bullet journal everything in my life, but the bullet journal style of note taking is really useful in work for quick capture of information - no fancy layouts here just the date and then notes underneath as I go through the day which I can turn into tasks as needed
Yeah, I do the same. But when it comes to fancy and artistic layouts and drawings, I'm out haha 😄 Thanks for watching!
There is no such thing as multi-tasking - that is why it was so hard for you. Then when we can't accompish something we are made to feel guilty. We can do one thing at a time well, anything more than that suffers. Good on you for recognising it! I enjoyed your video very much, and can relate to many of the things you've let go of.
Thank you! 🤗
I couldn’t agree more about journaling. It just takes so much time.
Yeah, I think the key is to find ways that work for you. I change my journalling setup every now and then when I notice myself losing the habit
There are so many different ways to journal. The bullet journal is quite involved so I hear where he's coming from. You could definitely do the tiniest amount and connect with yourself. The opportunities and benefits are endless, in my book!
I’m in a process of decluttering and this video came to me. Now I feel like I have a lot more things to quit hahaha love the video
Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷
Glad it gave you the inspiration. You got this, all the best to you 😊
Number 41 is huge! I really needed to hear that, and it really made me stop and take stock. Thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful! 😊
About memory issues, my memory started to sharpen back up again when I simplified my diet to not include grains of any kind, seed oils (also known as vegetable oils), sugars, vegetables, and fruits (except a few berries once in awhile). The change was nothing short of a miracle. It keeps getting better even after 2 years of simplifying my diet this way. I love being able to remember better now. Also, something to consider- if you take anything with Diphenhydramine HC (the active ingredient in Benadryl) or a similar drug class, it will ruin your memory and causes dementia). Best of luck to you in your journey! ❤
Interesting, so no vegetables or fruits?
Just found your channel today and subscribed instantly. The only multitasking thinking i cant get rid of for sure is listening to channels like yours while doing my household chores.it's therapeutic and calming. Thank you for the new ideas !
If it brings you value, well-being and calms you down, I don't think it's bad. I do it sometimes too. Of course having moments of complete silence is important but also having moments like these 😊 I mean multitasking in a way of trying to do many tasks at the same time, ultimately overwhelming your mind and body
Beautiful shots, Seve!!!!
Thank you, Austin! 😇
Such a great list! 49 really stood out to me because I worked odd hours for so many years.
Every time the subject of what time I woke up was mentioned in conversation, people would tell me how they'd "love to sleep in" as if we didn't have the same 24 hours a day. I don't get extra hours because I work earlier or later than anyone else.
Exactly!
One leg in and one leg out was the perfect analogy. I fulljoy your content/ subbed
Awesome, thank you! Yeah I try to show my real level of English and not pretend I know every idiom haha 😄
Thank you for an enjoyable video. It’s so good that little by little you are finding out who you are. It’s a lifetime of learning. Enjoy it. ❤️
Absolutely! Thank you 😊
Ouch, 35 is pretty relatable for me, haha. Sure it's important to take care of yourself, but mostly of the time it's external validation focused. In the essence, your clothes doesn't define you, so what types of clothes you are wearing to the supermarket actually doesn't matter. Thanks for the insight, Seve!
It's a process, and I know you are doing a good job my friend ✌️😊 Keep it up!
other people doesnt really care how we dress up, they are busy minding their own business.
@@heyjude5027 I would say this has a lot of truth in it, the spotlight effect is real. However, just like other animals, we many times judge others based on their looks. I think the key is to not care about it anyway because ultimately it matters more what you think of yourself 😊
Thanks man’ some great nuggets of wisdom in there for sure. Warm greetings from the Sunshine Coast Australia
Glad you enjoyed the video. Greetings from Finland 😇
Absolutely admirable approach to life.Thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom you are truly blessed.Watching you from Sri Lanka🙏🙂
Wow, thank you 🌱😊
Gosh, I like your content, listening to your voice calmed me and your list seem to be healthy and the first one I ever experienced without feeling urged to self improve. Thank you Seve
I am so happy to hear that! 😇😇
Love your common sense approach, I am going to have a think about your list and apply what I need. This may take a while 😂
1000%. The point is to also keep life simple while simplifying, so make 1 change at the time otherwise you'll just overwhelm yourself trying to create a calmer life 😄
That is a solid list! Keep up the good work!
Thanks! 🥰
I just started a few months ago! Starting from zero! But I already like it😊. Also trying to learn my young children (8 and 10 years) this principle. Instead my husband and I try to invest the saved money or pay off the mortgage. Much more fulfilling. We live in the Netherlands... that helps. As it is much less a consumerism society than the US for example
That's wonderful, great job! 🙌🌱
Wow, surprised i do the vast majority of these already! That was lovely and reinforcing.
I do read two books at once though 😂 one fiction and one non fiction.
Could we maybe have a video (or seasonal series) on your hobbies? Don't need to teach anything just show us what you get up to. Would love to get to know you more 😊.
ExcellentI 🌱🌱 Yess, I will mention some of my hobbies in the upcoming videos! Not too much though because they are not too simple living related haha
Thank YOU for this
33. Was me last year. Being overly social is stressful and overwhelming. I learned to say no a year ago and my head is a lot happier now.
That's great to hear! 😊
Thank you Seve, for sharing, sending love from the Philippines 🇵🇭
Thanks for watching 🌞
i just found my comfort channel and here it is 🥹❤️ great video man !
Awesome! Thank you! 🌱
First time listener, and I love these points!! They are so practical (and brain healthy) and I enjoy learning about the Nordic cultural differences.
Glad you found me! 😇
This was excellent thank you so much!
Glad you enjoyed it! 🌿
50 thumbs up 👍. Congratulations figuring these things out took me way longer than I’m guessing you’ve been alive.😊 The thing I’ve given up lately is listening to angry people subscriptions. (This is a good trick in the US the last few years.)
Simply live long.❤️
Thank you so much! 😊 What are those exactly? I've never heard of them but got curious
@@SunnyKindJourney 😝 That would be somewhat confusing. I guess we Americans tend to think the world revolves around us. Our politics have become contentious and divided to the point that friendships have been broken and families split apart on issues. UA-cam is full of angry people denouncing the other side as being enemies of the state and while I feel strongly about the issues I decided it was a waste of my time and a disruption of a simple life to listen to them any longer so I gave up these “angry people videos”.
@@yvonnejackson1696 Oh yeah I get it. Makes total sense to quit that!
Huomenta. I very much related to your 50 habits ( give or take 2/3 of them). And very much appreciate having them exposed in such a video. Kiitos !!
Kiitos paljon! 🙌🏼
Wow!! Amazing path to live in Peace!! Thanks a lot my friend!!!
All the best to you! 🌱
This is my first video of yours. I found it very interesting and aspire to also let go of a lot of the things you mention. Now I will go watch a lot more of your videos :)

Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
A persuasive and compelling design for living. Excellent video.
Thank you very much! 😊
Thank you for this video

I did the same with 1 and 8. I have three pocket notebooks now and that works wonders for me. I write down anything and everything. This also evolves and not every day is the same. That’s okay too.
Love the video and the messages. You did a good job on keeping it simple, brief and genuine.
Yeah it's so important to empty the head every once in a while! Do you use just normal notebooks or something special?
@@SunnyKindJourney i have one to review finances and budget. I have another to go over ideas and some notes from books. The other one is simple day to day list and task overview

Your list is very thoughtful and inspiring. So much in life is unnecessary. I've decided to eliminate diet colas from my life. Looking forward to your next post. Blessings to you from your friend in Chicago.
Thank you so much, Steven! 🪴
Moi! Good points, but maybe it’s good to have some dressingcode when you go out. Not in pyjamas to the supermarket. There you show you caring for the people around you. Waking up early is good for the health. Stay well! Sinikka
Thanks for the comment and stay well too!
loved your plants

Most of those are just age related. I got to the same ideas, but not because I was getting into minimalism, but because I got to that age when I don't give an "f" anymore
Hi Steve, really interesting thoughts 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it 😊

#4 with a 3 year old and 3 adults children working full time and studying whewwww keeping a tidy home has been different
For sure! Just remember it can't always be tidy, and 15 years from now you might even miss all the mess your kids were doing 🌱
i see your angelic introspection, very nice

i love your videos❤much love from the Philippines Seve
Thank youuuu 😊
Love this video. Interesting, thought provoking stuff
Thank you 😊
Look up Ryder Carroll's bullet journal method. It's very simple and not artistic at all, and it shouldn't take up much of your time. It's meant to be easy and quick and is the original method by the inventor or the bullet journal.
Will check this out, thank you! 😊
Multiple career paths. Something constantly I do. 😂
A lot of good ones on the list.
You also make a good job in presenting them more or less as a “pick and choose” list, and that you don’t portray it as if every tip is a need.
Even though this list shares some tips with all the “X habits of successful people” videos I really hate (and I don’t think you can mimic) your presentation is much more laid back and guilt free and focusing on what really matters, getting yourself to enjoy your life on your own terms.
Good job, from a friendly neighbour 🇸🇪.
Tack 🤗 That was the goal as well. Not to tell you what to do but give some inspiration!
Awesome video dude!
Thanks! 🌟🌟
@@SunnyKindJourney You’re so welcome!🤘
Absolutely❤🏴🇨🇦
Since I've retired my life is very much like this guy's. So many things are no longer necessary. I live a life of minimalism, but the result is a kind of "anorexia of things". I reject consumerism, including consumption of experiences. I need nothing. I want nothing. I'm interested in nothing. I hope for nothing. There's nothing liberating about it at all. Each new day is another 24 hours of nothingness. I try to sleep as much as possible. I've gotten off the treadmill of acquisitiveness, but the alternative isn't much better.
What's your purpose in life currently? I just listened to the summary of the book Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, and it talked about this feeling of emptiness and how it can come when we lose the purpose or meaning in our life. Hope things will get better for you mentally!
🎯 Key points for quick navigation:
🗒️ Always trust my memory: Writing things down helps me remember and stay organized.
💰 Minimalism over materialism: Less is more; I don't need material things for approval or happiness.
📱 Tech upgrades: Grateful for what I have; avoid constantly upgrading technology.
🧹 Accepting imperfection: Simplifying includes embracing a little mess and not obsessing over a spotless home.
👗 Decluttering clothes: Regularly assess if clothes bring value; donate what's not used.
💻 Digital declutter: Clearing out unused files on devices for easier organization.
⏰ Balanced productivity: Accepting that not every day will be 100% productive; it's okay to have off days.
📚 Simplified reading: Focus on one book at a time for better comprehension and retention.

Interesting journey great tips
Thanks for watching 😊
Nice and smart 👍
Thank you! Cheers! 🌱🌟
Great video. Also, the saying is "one foot in, one foot out"
Thanks! Yeah, almost got it right haha 😄
Nice work! I enjoyed your points and was inspired by many of them. It’s nice to see a person who knows what he wants and actually does it. And yes, people waste too much potable water obsessively cleaning themselves and their wardrobe. What about flushing the toilet every time you pee? This may gross most people out, but think about it. That we do #1 and 2 into fresh water that half the world is literally dying to drink is a tragedy. A composting toilet is great, but, since most of us don’t have a choice re our toilet type, or being able to recycle grey water to use in it, this is an option for many.
Yeah in the West we have so much of it, we hardly even think about a life without water. Thanks for the comment!
I disagree with the social media part. But for a very specific reason. I live thousands of miles away from family and friends. Facebook and Instagram allow us to keep in touch in a casual way without missing out on we are doing in life.
Yeah, it's all about intentionality. Some people use it for actual connection, some just to kill time and escape reality. I think you are doing well and have good self-awareness 😉
Rotate clothes and shoes 😁 from the oldest to the newest and back again. Enjoy them all.
Great idea! 😄
I think the only thing I cant do from your list is no. 48. I live in a humid tropical country where I feel sticky if I dont shower twice a day. Sometime I manage to take shower once if the weather is cold enough.
I totally get it 😄 I live in the very-non-tropical North of Europe where most of the people take showers daily. Used to do that too but now I don't care to do so unless I sweat a lot
I am from India and in my culture - taking a shower daily and that too in the morning before saying your prayer is an absolute must if you are not sick. It is so deeply ingrained into my mind that I feel uncomfortable even thinking about not taking shower. Because I don't eat anything before I have prayed. I can't pray before taking shower...
Love your video! But how does your necklace serve you?
Great question! The value I get from those is about self-expression. The jewellery I have, all have a story behind them. When I see or wear those, I feel certain emotions attached to them. So these are one of the few items I own, that don't have a real practical value but an emotional one. I couldn't care less about some "icy" diamond necklaces or bracelets 😄
Hello! It is my first time watching your videos, I just discovered your chanel. ☺️The first thing that I noticed was your accent which I find really interesting and comfortable to listen to. May I ask you where are you from? Based on your accent, I would say Finland? 🤨
Yes 😇😇
Funny how i already do some of the things you mentioned 😂
Yup, simplicity is underrated
🌱🌱
Such a sweet accent ... and great content as well ... thank you
Haha thank you 😄
Well done. I quit WhatsApp too, big move yet fulfilling one. Whatsapp is very addictive you are expected to respond to people’s texts all the time including employers and colleagues.
Well done! Yeah I can relate to that struggle 😄
U look cute with your hairstyle.. Also i agree
Haha thanks
Bravo - love it
Thank you ✨
Only just found you :-). Looks like i have a lot of catching up to do. I am on a simplifying mission myself and love inspirational content ro keep me on track so thank you for your videos :-). I would say i have given up thinking i need to conform to society :-). I am in the UK and the only connection i have to finland is the only horse i ever owned was called Aina by her first owner who was finnish :-).
So glad you found my channel and hope you'll like my future videos too 😊😊 Is Aina still with you? 🥰
@@SunnyKindJourney I am sure your future videos will be brilliant :-). I look forward to them. I had to sell Aina unfortunately due to a nasty fall injury but thankfully she didn't go far and I am friends with her new mum so she will "always" be in my life :-).
@@summersday1455 Oh no! well at least you found a way to keep her in your life still :)
I would love to know what you eat… are you vegan? Vegetarian? Or do you eat meat?
Vegan 🌱
@@SunnyKindJourney thought so 😄 thanks for the fast response 💖
@@CozyChrissy What about you? :)
@@SunnyKindJourney currently vegetarian but on the way / almost vegan. Eating the rest of the milkproducts and than no more milk etc., cheese, honey and eggs on my grocery list. 😁
getting married and having a family won't be ideal with the minimalist lifestyle, what do you guys think about this?
Your priorities will change for sure and it will probably be more difficult. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't start a family if that's something you want to do. After all minimalism is not just about living with as few stuff as possible, it's about surrounding yourself with things that are truly valuable to you 🌿
Curious, which languages do you know and which did you give up on learning?
Finnish, English, and Italian. I can understand Spanish and Greek but can't really speak those anymore. I have also studied Swedish and French for a couple of years and a bit of Arabic but those I gave up 😄 These days, I only practice Italian every now and then
@@SunnyKindJourney Wow, that’s impressive. I’m trying to learn one new language and finding it difficult to find the time 😅.
@@DFreize I think it's all about prioritization. If you have more important things in life at the moment, it is difficult to find time. I was able to study these because learning them was really important for me back in the day but now my priorities are elsewhere too so I'm unable to study much. I think knowing at least one language other than your native one is already good 😊
@@SunnyKindJourney yes, I hear you there! Those extra activities can just create unnecessary stress and are counter to the simple / minimalist lifestyle. I’ll keep working at the one language at least 😎.
"Focus on things that actually matter" If you think it matters, then it matters. I don't like how people use this phrase. What "matters" is an opinion, I hate viewpoints like these.
100%, it is a very personal thing. Minimalism is about focusing on what matters to you individually. The "actual" word is there to emphasize the point that not everything matter equally, you always value other things more than others
All in until taking a shower everyday. Also, the wearing pajamas to wherever explains a lot to the unraveling of societal norms and why it's no fun to go out to diner at what should be worth the higher expectation of the diners. Thank god I didn't grow up in the era of social media and it doesn't surprise me that it is a revelation to share on U-Tube social media how wonderful living life off social media is! It's called the good old day's when you just dealt with life a day at a time and trusted the people who earned your respect and didn't give an F about people who didn't. I feel so sorry for people who judge their life on how many clicks, likes or followers they have. Yeah, and it wouldn't kill you to wear a nice polo when you go into town! Haha.
Thanks for the comment! I mean certainly I wash myself everyday but I don't need to take a full shower everyday. With my "not-so-fancy" clothes I definitely wouldn't go to some fine dining or explore city centers. Visiting my local shop or going for a short walk however is another thing 😄
What do you do for a living Seve?
You mentioned that you freelance?
Yeah did that for years. So did different gigs online. Now full-time youtube hoping to make this finally work 😊
I agree with all but going out in my PJs! Not cute ha ha!
Yeah I get it haha. I've just reached the point of not caring if I'm cute or not 😂
