I’m retired and the first thing I had to let go of that no longer served me was my large wardrobe. I worked in the beauty industry and dressed up every day. Clothes, heels, jewelry, makeup, etc. It was part of my identity so letting it all go was a challenge but once I started it became easier. It was part of finding who I was becoming and letting go of who I no longer was.

I agree, I am going through this now. How were you able to let go of your wardrobe without the guilt of the financial investment? I am struggling with that. I have attempted online and consignment stores but still have a lot of leftovers that were higher end clothing and shoe items.

@@FrenchFifi65 I looked at it as I already got my money’s worth from them and reminded myself that I will never wear them again so keeping them would be wasteful. It was a gradual process both in action and mentally. I just had to let go. Those clothes were part of my past not my future. The most surprising thing of all was that I haven’t missed anything I got rid of. Good luck on your journey and your new stage of life 🩷

@@FrenchFifi65 There are charities that take nice work clothes for young women who can't afford them, I've donated to Dress for Success here where I live- there may be a similar charity where you live?

I like you because of your way of thinking. you are the only person who only work on practicality, not on showoff. those so-called minimalists try to put some sort of weight on people shoulder by wearing all black kind of silly thing. what they try to let us know, I can't get it, but wearing only black does not mean u r minimalist. Actually, nothing matters, especially any kind of extreme actions are never to be acceptable. Moderation must be the key. Living frugal life does not mean to show yourself as a symbol of frugality by doing those kinds of silly things. Anyway, thank you for your work. keep going my friend.

Whenever you talk about self awareness, it reminds me of meditation. A lot of people have a misconception about meditation that it’s a practice for a mystical experience, but in reality it’s nothing but an intense awareness of one’s own thoughts and mental processes. Your videos have been great! I have two recommendations for those who resonate with simple and slow living: 1.) ‘4000 weeks’ book 2.) ‘Perfect days’ movie.

This video was the best for me. I will watch it a few more time. Good points about learning what make you happy, or content before you work on building a life that is perfect for you.

I really enjoyed this video - very helpful and timely. I just repurposed five bags of dress shirts and sweaters as I have lost a good deal of weight and no longer need to dress for work. As much as I loved these clothes, I realized that I had never worn a few of the sweaters, purchasing them because they were on sale, convincing myself that I needed them because they were such a good value. Nonetheless, I knew that these clothes could be used by someone else who needed them. I did the same to my kitchen, donating gently-used (and I'm ashamed to say brand new items) to a local charity, again happy in the thought that someone would get use from things which have been sitting unused in my cabinets for a long time. The result: I can see my closet walls and the back of my cabinets, though realize I am in need of a round two of de-cluttering and re-purposing as there are still so many items which I no longer and/or never worn.
My one weakness: books. I own hundreds of books, some of which I have not read, but have purchased to have something to read in my old age. I obtain great joy from each and every book, and even though it's a pain to dust (I have stacks of books residing on each step of the stairs to the second floor because there is no more space on two large bookshelves), they are my greatest joy. I like to think of heaven as a library, with a really good coffee/tea shop, where one can sit for hours enveloped in a book and cup of hot tea - and no dusting ever.
I truly enjoy the scenes of nature in your videos, especially you walking in a winter forest. I know such scenes are not easy to film, especially when it's cold outside and the sun in quickly sinking in the west when you need just one more minute to create the shot you want. So, thank you for those, and for everything you do for this community. Happy Christmas. And Joyous Yule (Going out on a limb that this might be a Nordic well-wish.). Cheers!

I am simplifying my life by using systems that decide for me or automate it at this point
I am at the point where life would get more complicated if I took things out or went more digitally minimal

I was a stay at Home mom with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Evelyn Infurna. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, I was able to scale this quickly to $150,000. If I can do this in a year, anyone can.
