Winner of a video, been searching for "how to play blues on electric guitar" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Wanichael Corylexander Equalizer - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my buddy got amazing success with it.
Hey nate thanks for the advice the other day in regards to the 5 top things I should learn for blues. Sorry to bug you but I heard 12 bar blues, blues songs, blues chords, sliding technique but I missed the 5th recommendation what was it? Cheers keep up the great work cheers👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the lesson / reminder ! One of the things I do is to let the pinky throw in some Dsus4 whenever there's a bar or two of D. Doesn't work always, but surprisingly often you can "spice up" a song that way.
Wow, nice crash course on the intermediate chords! I knew some of these, but also not a bunch. It's kind of neat to get an understanding of where I am. I guess I'd be somewhere around late beginner/early intermediate? Anywho, thx for the vid!
My goal tier for this video *play each cord shown without pausing the video *learn the chord names and categories *play all the side notes he plays, also without pausing the video Wow man! I'm loving your resources! Thanks.
I knew 5% thanks for showing the movement’s on how to get the most out of the chord you put my creativity back on track thanks will go over video until I have them all down with complete understanding. 👍🏾
Thanks so much for this. I would also encourage that you also mention what notes you are playing to make up the chords, or what notes you are removing from a chord. That would be interesting. Love these lessons
Imo, adding the names of notes just makes things way too complicated. Especially in a video about assessing your skill level. There's no reason that someone needs to know the names of individual notes being left out etc. at this level and that could deflate lots of people. I've watched many videos on this topic, and him leaving out note names made it the best I've found. Just my two cents
Loved the inversions; would love to begin using them more...I find power chords very useful; especially in trying to blend with the rest of the band better.
Yes, This what we needed. We asked, you did. This is power packed refresher. I learnt these chords to play worship songs, it's almost worship guitaring. There are area of improvements and new Learning in this lesson for me. Thanks Nate
A lovely minor 7th chord that I use is (for a Gm7) 3XX331, you can play the root note with your thumb wor your second finger, it has a nice sound because the minor 7th is on top
Nice. All these chords are chords I use daily, I just didn't know their names or whether they were minor chords or not. I play mainly by ear and of course once you know shapes you can, and do, experiment around the fretboard. Thanks pal , I've learned something.
I’m surprised you left the four finger G, Cadd9, chords out as they lead so easily to a super simple G, C, D change with the ring finger as an anchor. Sorry if I’m being cheeky, or if this has been done to death. Really enjoyed the video… it woke me up to more than a few chords that I Can play, but don’t, cause I rarely use them. I’m looking for something to spice up the practise routine right now, integrating rarely used chords (by me,) into my changes practise might be just the ticket. Thanks man I got a lot from this video.
I know all of these, I watch to give myself some reassurance or to look at how others look at these chords, it's super interesting to me My fav chords are sus 2s and minor/major 9s and minor 11s but I voice them much more darker sense I enjoy Midwest emo
11:14 GOD, I couldn't know what chord was this before, I kinda achieved a similar way to play it, but it ruined a bit the song I was practicing, so thx because now I know the exact chord :)
Awesome Vid! Didn’t know the chords. Will rewatch repeatedly! Two requests. Harmonic Minor Chords video just like this? Breakdown of how to incorporate these intermediate chords into scales, specifically for songwriting purposes? 🤟🏼👊🏼🤘🏼
Again man another really cool vid, well presented, easy to follow and a great way to learn. Once i get these down will most defiantly be checking your other content. Luv it dude, keep it up, you're cool.
It's nice to play high E string on the major 7th chords (when the root is on the 6th string), considering it's the seventh tone also. I don't see the reason to mute it strictly, it gives very nice and bright sound. :D
I am a beginner, 66 year old just recently retired. I have been practicing for about 6 weeks. So far I have g,c,d,e,e#,a chords down but am slow in changing from one to the other. I really like this video, but you’re going way to fast for me. Do you have any other videos that spend more time on each individual chord ? Thanks!!
Garth Brooks (remember that guy) plays the D inversion with his first(index) finger instead of the Thumb over. It's his favorite chord and freaked me out when I first saw it on a live video years ago!
I kinda do most of these casually. Especially for Sus. So nice for classic love songs. So im not already intermediate?lol Except for the C/E that was so sneaky. So simple yet sound so good and crunchy. Hehehe
4:57 Hello nate,i am struggling hard on A major shaped movable chords these. The problems i faced doing this are i cant bend my ring finger which does not makes a proper bar on all three strings. plz help me or make a video on that.
Hi! I've just saw your video it's great so first congrats for that!. Then, I was wondering if you had any video explaining how to combine all these chords in a whole key, so for example i dont know, if i´m playing a song i G mayor how can I start playing these amazing chords and become a more professional guitar player. Greetings from Peru!
Great vid man. Excellent cadence and very clear and easy to understand , as well as , perfect explanation provided simoatainisly ...... your well on your way to 2 mill subs .... I’d say u hit that with in the next 3 yrs, maybe sooner. Awesome work man, U have this figured out my brother!!!!!
Can't play a lot of these chords due to lack of reach (short fingers). Sometimes I can put my fingers down on the notes, but can't put enough pressure on 'em to sound good. Other chords I can't even place my fingers down in the right spots. I need a smaller scaled guitar!!
I guess my question for you would be why a 9 chord only has 4 notes in it? In a ninth chord, would you have 1357b and 2? But instead, I feel like we are missing the 5th in it but still call it a 9 chord? I thin to complete the loop, we can have the first string play a G note right? Or C9 actually means something else here.
On guitar we sometimes omit notes because we only have so many fingers and so many strings to work with. Usually, the first one to go is the 5th because it's not critical to the overall sound of the chord.
He did show adding the G note on the first string by barring the top three strings. Depends on the sound you’re going for. And as was mentioned, it’s not unusual to drop notes from the chord, especially root and fifth.
That first chord there only goes for acoustic guitars, right? Classic guitars have a wider neck so that can't be played with them, am I right or am I wrong?
I dont really have a favorite.it has more to do what sounds I want to create. and key Im playing. i pretty much use all those chords you showed.. some more than other I also play against open string...So I actaully dont mute those notes. Then Im going to Barr across the 2nd fret,,,,how ever Im going to play the G#, C#....( Low 2 strings) G# phygian.lol I can easily play B Maj or B7....or E Maj...Barring from the second fret,.. IM going play the C # b3, b7.... ( It's sort of like the C9 chord....but Im play it with b3 ( C#) Sometimes I'll even play the C# minor Barr chord shape...With the Open A string ringing.....I'll simply reach over and play the D note ( N6).....Sometimes...I'll even play the D maj Diad.. stack below the C# min diad.....with the open high E... for CADENCE...ect Ill even play the Blues....using ALL maj7 chords...lmao ( it'll sound Jazzy) But it's sort of like an INVERTED Minor chord.... Other times.....example the E9.... but im going to play the E, 3, b7.......Im going to SHUFFLE using my PINKY on different strings.....as if Im soloing or riffing... b5...ootive.. or whatever Passing option notes..ect If I wanna shuffle the b3 or Maj3 ( on D string)...I'll simply shuffle my index.. ( but it's every Whole step) sort of like the whole tone scale.....

Thank you Sir! I've used most of these chords for years but now I'm finally working to memorize their proper names.
One of the best lessons on guitar chords I’ve taken from a UA-cam video. Thanks Nate.
You asked for it... So here it is! Hope you enjoy the video. Which of these new chords is your favorite?
Hey nate thanks for the advice the other day in regards to the 5 top things I should learn for blues. Sorry to bug you but I heard 12 bar blues, blues songs, blues chords, sliding technique but I missed the 5th recommendation what was it? Cheers keep up the great work cheers👍👍👍👍👍

Alberto Marmi thanks for that cheers 👍👍👍👍👍
thanks nate!

This is brilliant. Some actual application of theory in an easy to understand lesson.
Well done.
Loved the inversions; would love to begin using them more...I find power chords very useful; especially in trying to blend with the rest of the band better.
the most helpful video ever, no BS , straight to the point. love it
Yes, This what we needed.
We asked, you did.
This is power packed refresher. I learnt these chords to play worship songs, it's almost worship guitaring. There are area of improvements and new Learning in this lesson for me. Thanks Nate
me: watches through the video, ok cool now I have them down
*goes into the other room sits down and tries to play them
Me: rewatches the video
Ditto!! 😂
I have spent months investigating top christian guitar tips and found an awesome resource at Worship Fixer Formula (google it if you are interested)
Doofapus is a ship I believe in 😂❤️
A lovely minor 7th chord that I use is (for a Gm7) 3XX331, you can play the root note with your thumb wor your second finger, it has a nice sound because the minor 7th is on top
Thank you! This is stuff nobody tells us, the movable ones are awesome
Cool, I was just boring myself with the same chords over and over and some of these will inspire some new sounds. Thanks
Nice. All these chords are chords I use daily, I just didn't know their names or whether they were minor chords or not. I play mainly by ear and of course once you know shapes you can, and do, experiment around the fretboard. Thanks pal , I've learned something.

This and the last video in this series entirely changed the game for my guitar playing. Thank you!
I was playing some of these chords on my own lol wow
you must be a pro
Beautiful feeing!
Same, sometimes I stumble upon chord shapes that sound really cool by just playing around with finger placements and moving them along the fretboard.
Samee
I played df too
I really like the c9 chord.
Thank you so much!
I did not know more than half these positions, very helpful material thank you.
For that last power chord you can actually expand that chord if you’re tuned to drop D or any other drop tuning. Just barre the E and the A stings.
I know all of these, I watch to give myself some reassurance or to look at how others look at these chords, it's super interesting to me
My fav chords are sus 2s and minor/major 9s and minor 11s but I voice them much more darker sense I enjoy Midwest emo
I love to play minor 7th chords with my thumb on the root and baring with my index finger. Works well if you have bigger things
Excellent again. Thanks.
Feels like a 🎮 cheat code. Love it.
both parts fantastic ! thankyou very much!
11:14 GOD, I couldn't know what chord was this before, I kinda achieved a similar way to play it, but it ruined a bit the song I was practicing, so thx because now I know the exact chord :)
This will be really helpful for me. Thanks!
Thank you so much 👍👍
Very interesting and charming lesson.
Thank for this man🤘
Thanks for your lessons and tips
Use the second finger on the E string for that Gm7, and bar with the first finger.
I did know more of these than anticipated but you opened me up to some more, thanks!
This was a great video... and I've already played all of these at times over the years.
Thanks so much for the excellent video. I knew some of the chord shapes, but did not know their names.
Awesome Vid! Didn’t know the chords. Will rewatch repeatedly! Two requests. Harmonic Minor Chords video just like this? Breakdown of how to incorporate these intermediate chords into scales, specifically for songwriting purposes? 🤟🏼👊🏼🤘🏼
Good suggestions Christian
Thanks a lot👍👍
Awsome!!! Thank you 🙏 these chords are amazing!!’ Your guitar sounds incredible!!!!
Really liked the a/c# also g/b and c/e. I've been playing this wrong
Gonna learn alot from this i already know great intermediate video!
Great channel!!!
Thank you for the tips
Good luck (to your tendons) doing the first chord on a "criolla" guitar (the ones with thick wide neck and nylon strings) tho
Good way to practice, makes your hands strong
Thanks for the video.. one day please explain in which song/genre that i can use that chord thx :D
Very helpful. Thanks!
Again man another really cool vid, well presented, easy to follow and a great way to learn. Once i get these down will most defiantly be checking your other content. Luv it dude, keep it up, you're cool.
i knew all the chords in here but i learnt some new voicings
Also please include the Diminished 7th Chords in a lesson one day.
Imran Ahmed min 7 b5 is diminished 7th, but more technical. There are only 3 diminished 7th chords too, cause it’s all min 3rd intervals
And 13ths chord
Loved the enemy coming part
Nice video.. though knew all of them, but saw some new voicings.. thx.
Thank you so much! You help me a lot))
thanks for the effort
It's nice to play high E string on the major 7th chords (when the root is on the 6th string), considering it's the seventh tone also. I don't see the reason to mute it strictly, it gives very nice and bright sound. :D
Very helpful. I knew no jazzy chords before.

This video made it very clear that I’m not near the intermediate level. Yet.
Garth Brooks (remember that guy) plays the D inversion with his first(index) finger instead of the Thumb over. It's his favorite chord and freaked me out when I first saw it on a live video years ago!

4:57 Hello nate,i am struggling hard on A major shaped movable chords these. The problems i faced doing this are i cant bend my ring finger which does not makes a proper bar on all three strings. plz help me or make a video on that.
Same 😶
Nate, you are so dam talented, I may have to take your course....
I just wanna extend my lil chord bank, thanks a ton for the vid ;)
Hi! I've just saw your video it's great so first congrats for that!. Then, I was wondering if you had any video explaining how to combine all these chords in a whole key, so for example i dont know, if i´m playing a song i G mayor how can I start playing these amazing chords and become a more professional guitar player. Do this for rock chords PLEASE !!!
Thanks
i can play all of them but how do u know the names of these frikin chordsss!!? 11:34 i know its f# but minor7b5?!?? how do u know all of themmmm
THANK YOU SO MUCH SIR! it helped me... :)
I have learnt Gmaj7 before with that shape 6:57, but I am wondering the construction?
Do one video on how to use these chords......in melody...plzz....and thank you for this..
Awesome Lesson
This is perfect for intermediate
Some of the minor seventh , dominant seventh and 6th, 9th are totally new. Please make a video on which chords are used in which genre of music.
What you call F#m7b5 is more like an Am6 to me. If you play xx2212 it’s just an A minor with the 6th on top.
Great video learned a lot!👍🏽
Thanks 89cereal. Glad to hear you learned some new things.
It's very helpful for us.. Please make a video on something unique chord progressions..
Cool...💝
Love the RPG chords!
ye, nah, simple recourses are the best, exactly what I want, no bullshit. perfect.
Knew some of the 7 chords really like the minor 9 chords
Thank you so much for this!!
You are welcome Mundy1818.
Can't play a lot of these chords due to lack of reach (short fingers). Sometimes I can put my fingers down on the notes, but can't put enough pressure on 'em to sound good. Other chords I can't even place my fingers down in the right spots. I need a smaller scaled guitar!!
Please show me more strum/picking techniques?
Very useful:D
I guess my question for you would be why a 9 chord only has 4 notes in it? In a ninth chord, would you have 1357b and 2? But instead, I feel like we are missing the 5th in it but still call it a 9 chord? I thin to complete the loop, we can have the first string play a G note right? Or C9 actually means something else here.

That first chord there only goes for acoustic guitars, right? Classic guitars have a wider neck so that can't be played with them, am I right or am I wrong?
Mind blown
Good chords that come in handy both noodling and as some of the awkward chord in songs lol
How are we supposed to strum D/F# etc
By RPG, do you mean FFVIII?
I dont really have a favorite.it has more to do what sounds I want to create.
and key Im playing. i pretty much use all those chords you showed..
some more than other
I also play against open string...So I actaully dont mute those notes.
PLus I'll also finger pick..sort of like playing a harp.
Example...in the Key of E Major...C# minor.
Musically it flows..and it's easy on my fingers...( Know music theory helps)
Im going to play the Top 2 strings open for the most part...
Im simply going to make a C# min triad.. ( Root on A string, 4th fret)
Then Im simply going to move my PINKY to the B note second fret,,,
Which will make it an E Major chord....
Then Im going to slide down a fret,,,,play the D# and G# note...on the
which will make it A #4, 7 ,9 ( lydian)
Then Im going stack the F# below it on the low string...( F# dorian)...
Then Im going to Barr across the 2nd fret,,,,how ever Im going
to play the G#, C#....( Low 2 strings) G# phygian.lol
I can easily play B Maj or B7....or E Maj...Barring from the second fret,..
IM going play the C # b3, b7....
( It's sort of like the C9 chord....but Im play it with b3 ( C#)
Sometimes I'll even play the C# minor Barr chord shape...With
the Open A string ringing.....I'll simply reach over and play the
D note ( N6).....Sometimes...I'll even play the D maj Diad..
stack below the C# min diad.....with the open high E...
for CADENCE...ect
Ill even play the Blues....using ALL maj7 chords...lmao ( it'll sound Jazzy)
But it's sort of like an INVERTED Minor chord.... ( C# min)
it's easy....
A Maj7.....I'm going to shuffle...the 2 and 3maj ( Hammer/pull with my ring finger..ect)
Then...to D maj7...then E maj7.....( shuffle using my PINKY)
If I want to play it as Dominant....it' easy...shuffle my RING finger..( while barrin the D maj7)
Lmao..( But since it's an INVERTED F# minor.....It'll be sort of like Im shuffling
between F# Major or F# min....hope that makes sense.
Other times.....example the E9....
but im going to play the E, 3, b7.......Im going to SHUFFLE using my PINKY
on different strings.....as if Im soloing or riffing...
b5...ootive.. or whatever Passing option notes..ect
If I wanna shuffle the b3 or Maj3 ( on D string)...I'll simply shuffle my index..
Do whatever bluesy riff..ect.
But Im going to see it as E DOMINANT PENTATONIC..ish.lmao....
I also KNOW....
you can stack dominant chords over any FULL diminshed( Full diminshed WH/WH...
I also know you can so a FULL diminished run from the maj3...
R.........3......5....b7......b9
Im also used to playing...b3 and maj3 in the same mode.
if the play the TRITONE..it just be Mix #4.....or i can play Mix #2, #4
so...I can alter it to 1, #2, #4, 6......( full diminished)
You can also stack full diminished over any b3...( WH step)
you can also play dominant or #4....over (N6) chords
1, 3, b7 or 1, #4, b7......hope that make sense. ( but it's every Whole step)
sort of like the whole tone scale.....
Haha! That D6 took me back to days when I played FFVIII. Loved that game
Thanks for the interesting video. A movable major 7 that I like is x54222 (d maj7).
Now i can finally understand that bossa nova section in playing god
