I have had my two guitars for over ten years and have yet to spend 10 minutes trying to play them. Now that I am 71 and have terminal cancer, going to give it a try before I go. Will start with finger exercise to get them moving. Thank you. And nice intro piece
good luck jim!
All the best Jim! Cheers and enjoy them!
Go for it Jim! Like $100 bottles of wine, my friend said... What are you waiting on....
I said someday... He said your last day isn't going to send you an invitation... Drink up!!
Jim, you might try doing the basic drop D progression scale. It's real simple, I too procrastinated for 30 years on NOT playing my guitar as I should have been. I do an exercise everyday now and I've already noticed my fingers are getting quicker and more in control on the fretboard, these exercises shown here are INVALUABLE to say the least, I'm going to add them to my daily roster. ✌💯👍
Do it Jim!
This Left handed player says Thanks you, thank you, thank you for using the terms picking hand and fretting hand.
Hell yea .. me and my son are both Lefties..
@Paco A LOL your funny man I like you 👍
@ Paco A thanks 😎 I took the negative part out and just left the thank you part. So as not to offend.
Same here. Thank you, very encouraging, really motivates my desire to learn.
Thank you, sir
Aah... The things we take for granted
This is one of the most beautiful tunes I’ve ever heard
Marco Cirillo plays way better and Beautiful ones....but yeah this was amazing too
Donna. I agree. It makes you feel some type of way. Its like a small treat for your heart and soul. Love it.
I thought you were going to teach that intro song as a practice drill😅
Shit I thought he was actually going to try to teach one of the drills period. Rather than show off the sounds he can make. lol
What is the intro called? Like I know he made it up but how can I find more like this
@@mr.exclusive5361 It looks like a mix of E aeolian and em pentatonic stuff with some chord tones.
@@mr.exclusive5361 sounds reminiscent to the solo from Fade to Black (Metallica)
@@liveoutsidethebox4064 huh? he did all 4. did you just stop watching after the tune he played?
I really liked that opening tune! That could be a song!
That intro pulled my heartstrings
When this video started I was like "C'mon, just get to the lesson."
When the lesson started I was like "Awww, man, why did that have to end so fast?"
Excellent. Added as a warmup to daily practise routine. Thank you very much.
Whilst I appreciate your great guitar skill, Your showing off at the start of it just leaves me in despair at the monumental task of trying to learn to play at all.
this.
Interesting...on the contrary, I find it quite motivating. It shows how good you can get with enough practice.
@Wes 76 that sounds a bit mean if I may say so.
ledmondson24 it’s not mean, it’s reality.
I was thinking the same
Thank you for taking the time to make videos like this Andrew, much appreciated sir!🙏
My pleasure!
That finger-stretching drill is dynamite. I thought my pinky was bad, but my ring finger is absolutely terrible. This should really help me out.
Ring finger is less responsive.
Very nice intro! Love the tone and the melody. Interesting finger exercises and guitar practices that I'll begin implementing in my own practices. Shalom.
Tutorial for that intro please
I do the 4th and final one as a daily warm up exercise, Thank You Andrew!
Great stuff Andrew… this is definitely going into my Daily Guitar practice!
Thank you for such great content and efficient ways of showcasing how to apply exercises that make a difference.
I love the eerie sound of those exercises, lol. Thanks, again you've helped an old beginner.
Thank you for the tips, those were really helpful! The intro was so beautiful and heart-touching
Wow! This is fantastic. I wish someone had shown me this years ago.
Incredible playing to listen to and watch ! I’m not sure if I’m inspired or intimidated ? I’d love to be able to play like that for myself ! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent
Thankyou so much for sharing this informative video with us 👍💐
Andy, your method on right and left hand drill is nothing short of briliant
Really nice.. and different...
I will work on this..
Thanks..
Steven jewett
Songwriter and guitarist...
Absolutely beautiful tone my friend.😋
This intro Andrew. It's so dreamy and goes so well with the background strumming.
The initial riff was fabulous
Lovely intro. Would love a tab on this to learn it!
That’s a good base of exercises
I’ve been playing SO improperly for so long I need a lot of information
Simple, practical, melodic, effective and maybe even fun (still to be tried). Enjoyed this and expect to find it exceptionally useful. Subscribed. Thank you!
Tried?
Thanks Andrew, loved the Spider Walk exercises. I can do these on the dash board of my car, while waiting for my children. Well done.
Lol , l know that practice technique
How you opened, the style is exactly how I want to play. Excellent, you nailed it.
WOW I was mesmorised just watching you play. I want to be able to play like that eventally. WOW! Awesome!
Awesome!!!! I use a lot if thise licks, you even taught me a few (beginning)
Great skills. Definitely giving this ago thanks.
It's a very very useful Lessons Thank you so Much for making this kind of exercise videos
These are great to know. Thanks for sharing these tips.
Wow - lots of great stuff, Andrew. Thank you!
This intro is my morning time inspiration! Thank you 😊 it gives me something to aspire to, you the man!
How’s your progress over the past year? This is a tremendous piece from Andrew as it has all the fancy moves that beginning guitarists want to be able to do. ( hammer ons, slides, double stops, a couple of long stretches across 4-5 frets ect ). Andrew Wasson hands a incredibly melodic style he never disappoints. Cheers 🎸
Thank you. Beginning Melody, so soothing and beautiful!
I just discovered this video and thank you for starting off with finger exercises.
Yes , I’m with Brent L , how about a lesson on the intro and the backing rythym behind it
Please,
Fantastic video, thanks for your time.Looking forward to the next one.
Amazingly helpful lesson; thanks sooo much!!
I was searching this kind vedio.. Thank you sir..👍
love that reverb there
thank you so much great lesson,
These are awesome exercises. Thank you. I'm shocked at how difficult it is to get certain fingers to work together. Can you talk us through 3 and 4? I've tried slowing the vid down but I can't work out the moves.
Play in 1/2 speed
Very nice lesson taught Sir.
Thank you.
Beautiful intro! Can anyone tell me the name of the backing track? I love it, thanks! Stay safe and well everybody! 💕💕🎵🎵
Hi, i just want to share that when i first saw you, i immediately made an opinion about you that you must be a very serious guy and maybe you are going to bore me with the instructions. But as i have been watching your videos, you have really really made an impact and proved me wrong.
Ps: the tune you play in the beginning is just out of the world and inspired me to continue learning more and more.
Is that intro designed to intrigue, encourage or put to shame most of us? My jury has just returned with a unanimous verdict on that count!
John Cortex I don't know what he meant by it but it was so beautiful it got me dreaming.
Shame us!!
Shame for the mentally weak.... intrigue those not yet interested... and to encourage those who are already trying despite their mindset.....
Would you please do a video breaking down drill 3, either a bit slower or describing what/where your fingers (both fret and strumming fingers) are in each moment? It looks a lot like spider hands but I can’t tell specifics. Your videos are awesome- thanks a bunch!!!!
Looks like hes using index middle and pinky fingers and skipping a fret in between them and after playing all 3 notes moves down a string and over a fret
if you go to the pinned comment there is a link with the tabs. Its the first link if you scroll down a bit. Hope this helps.
If you're on your computer. On UA-cam go down at bottom of the video. Open settings and slow the speed of the video. Learn any song this way, one small section at a time. Hope this helps.
That intro- love it
Thank you Andrew, I'm going to hang on that video forever, I also felt good to accompany you with some barre chords in E minor, sounds really good, Shalom.
My left hand (fretting hand) fingers got a mind of its own :) lol. Placed my fingers on my lap doing the "finger lift" in all sorts of ways and most of them going "No!, it's too hard" :)lol
the
The BedroomRock Star Just keep trying, coordination builds up fairly fast.
Ha! I remember those days. Soooo frustrating. Keep it up brother! Sooooo worth it.
Drill no.2 is the hardest for me
Finger independence is an issue for me because of my hand biology (ulnar nerves and stuff)
Damn, it really needs a lot of deliberate practise!!
I've gotten a lot better at performing the drill no.2 in just a few days. At first i could not move my ring finger without moving the middle and pinky fingers, and it was a tough ride for the first few days. But now, I can do it smoothly.
My finger independence is improving 🔥
COOL. Great exercises to warm up. Thanks!!
Beautiful song in the beginning! Great drills
Andrew this video content and specifically the intro is straight FIRE !!! 🔥🔥🔥 Please could you point us to a backing track that we can practise the song to??? If not, many many many thanks anyway. Fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥
It's been a year since I have spider walked on the string boards. It's a magic that I can play lead, phrases and licks and intros and extros. Thnks bro. Love you and your theories.
Surprisingly helpful, thanks man
That drill with the whole tone scale I actually use as a passing scale or passing tones. It’s really a fun Frank Zappaish type of scale that puts you in a catatonic state. lmao !
That second exercise fried my brain for a a.good 5 seconds when I got to the ring finger. It was literally like my hand stopped functioning for a bit. 😂 Crazy
I like your music so very much ,
Many thanks Andrew!
I'm a beginner, and if I hadn't bothered to start learning the notes, I think I might've found the fingerings for the third exercise a lot more confusing. "start on G and C# and take whole steps until the last string (when you start on D)" is a heck of a lot easier to remember than a whole physical pattern. Plus, when you know the notes, every physical pattern you do just reinforces your knowledge of the notes, which reinforces your ability to play them! It's a never-ending circle. Pretty cool.
Blaze Medley thanks for this but I was wondering if u could clarify just a bit, thanks!
Good stuff - thanks I'll give it try!
Excellent teacher.
Love the playing at the beginning. Sweet.
Thank you very much!
That was a very good lesson 👍
Thumbs up just for the intro alone. Very nice.
This has been a great help to get my fingers coordinated.
I had to think really hard to move my ring finger on my fret hand for the first time. It was kinda scary at first. I thought something was wrong but that finger is very weak. My other hand has more strength. I practiced for five minutes just on that finger exercise and I already have more control. Thanks for these unique exercises and drills. I can feel that these kinds of drills when practiced over and over and over will make learning and playing the guitar so much easier. I like repetition to build strength and muscle memory. For people just getting started, this can seem boring and monotonous but if you stick to it, it really makes a difference.
LOL ... then I tried ... pinky with middle finger up and down as well as ring with pointer. I was like my fingers were each connected separately to my brain. They didn't want to move together but after about 10 times it was easier and I could control them better.
@@sandrapolichino8806 same with me, I have been having some troubles to move my ring finger independently from my other fingers, but once that ring is moving my other fingers come along to help assist it lol
I was thinking I need to strengthen my left fingers AND THEN THIS VIDEO they were basically just attached all these years now I think better and play better and even type beter then eber......... THANK YOU!
these finger excersises are amazing.
Added to daily routine. Thx mate!
With the first exercise with your hand flat on the table I can move all my fingers really well except my ring finger. When I try to move it either my pinky or my middle finger wants to follow. Any tips on this? I have been holding those 2 fingers down trying to move my middle finger independently. Still struggling to lift my ring finger and it seems to not have the mobility the others have lifting off the table. Am I going at it the right way? Is there a way I can’t attack my ring finger more affectively? I need something I can do at work on lunch or watching tv after practice. Been practicing 15-45 minutes a day depending on my finger tips.
Wow what a great video! I'm 65 years old and have needed this particular instructional for 52 of them! Thank you Andrew!
That intro gave me an eargasm...I got chillssss
I love to be with you in person so you teach and guide every step of the way. That's the only way l think l can learn.
beautifully relaxing!
Andrew? Was that a red pick being used?
Could the picking be done with 1st & 2nd finger? I been Travis pickin'.
Thank You for your efforts !! Well Done !!
Hands down the best video on fingers exercises
Thanks for the lesson which was just what I needed! Don’t know why this post has over 300 dislikes though!
The Intro
Great exercises! I will definitely incorporate these into my practicing.
Is that Mr. Bean? Now I know he's good in playing guitar.
Is there anyway to get a tab for that awesome intro??? Please please please
Suitably inspired and intimidated in equal measure!
Great. Thank you so much!
thank you so much great lesson.
What a lovely piece. Deep....very deep.
That intro is excellent!
Thank you Andrew great video.
I wanna learn to play that song in the into... So beautiful 🥺🤧
Moving my pinki and ring finger in opposite directions has to be the most difficult thing I’ve ever done
Same here. I wanna cry it's so hard 😢
🤣 I can also relate
Same I wish I could have them removed and get new independent, flexible ones. 😤
RIGHT. I can’t even lift them both at the same time
This was good, I could follow you on this one. Will these a try. Thanks!
Thanks man, great video!
Good exercise. Guess there is no shortcut to playing eycellence then practice, practice, practice. Thanks for the explanation.
