My pet carpenter ants have disappeared for over six months and it has started to worry me. So this week, I actually went in and attempted to dig them out from beneath their resident rock in their ant terrarium called the Grove. I wanted to move them into a more effective ant farm setup where we could actually see the ants. What I discovered shocked me... twice! Hope you enjoy this week's unpredictable episode. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.
The plants appearing in this episode are Peperomia pellucida (the plant with profuse pods) and Pilea microphylla (the attractive shrub).

Hey, I'm a biologist here... and given that you've already lost 2 colonies to this terrarium...have you tried making sure the plants you placed in the tank aren't naturally insect repelling? Or that the soil isn't too overly acidic or basic? Certain species may have a higher tolerance than others, but a plant species that excretes a natural insecticide could be the cause.

I kid you not, I used to live in an apartment on the 1st floor, one day an ant colony decided to setup in our kitchen. They would literally walk through via the front door downstairs, climb up the stairs, enter my frontdoor end go into the kitchen. This happened for a couple of days untill I blocked the hole they were coming through with a chewing gum.

The top names they came up with were:
-The Hider Ants
-The Super Saiyan Ants (like from Dragon Ball)
-The Rainy Black Ants (or The Raney Black Ants - My name lol)

Ants are very intelligent species, most of us undermine the power of ants. They are like us, they build cities, cemeteries, wasteland, nursery home, the Queen chamber or for us the Buckingham or White house, since a baby was born, they are destined for specific jobs like what we aim too. Ants are so wonderfully made. Desert outworld? hmmmm... how about calling it "Wasteland" and nest could be called "vault (number)". That in my opinion sounds accurate but if you are still not convinced to this Fallout reference then listen to this:

The "overgrowning weed" is a Peperomia pellucida, "the attractive weed" is a Pilea microphylla often used as an ornamental plant.
Oh wow! Thank you for the IDs. That's awesome! I absolutely love Pilea microphylla! I assume some of the seeds must have found its way into the potting soil before I bought it from the plant nursery, and that's how they grew there! Interesting...

I've been watching ant videos for a week now.. I am so amazed and didnt expect that its possible to keep ants as a pet... I want to get my pet ants soon but I'm still worried if I'm worth of keeping them.

I feel like the ones in the desert setup should be called the wastelanders. Simply because of the theme of the desert.
Also to add on. Because of their home it kind of reminds me of the fallout's vault.
