Hey man this is really honorable. I've always felt that if you keep an aninal for its entire lifespan then it's your job to make their life worth living so thank for caring for all the small pets you care for
I love seeing people treating feeders with respect 💙 without them, those who they feed wouldn't be able to survive. The added acknowledgement of their dual purpose of decomposing was wonderful. I live my life trying to treat every single life form as an equal. No creature is better than another. I am not better than an ant or a cockroach, nor are they better than a cow or a chicken... at the end of the day, we all have our purpose for existing and we all have value.
Humans have souls, spirits; insects don't. You are greater than an insect, indeed. I do agree with the other parts though, we should all treat God's creation with love.
@@aitnobetafaq you're using religion to put other beings down. i am atheist, but that's not what a creator would want his creations to do. insects are living things with some level of intelligence and self preservation. we aren't inherently superior, we're just larger and smarter. every life form has a purpose in nature
There are a ton of possibilities as to how the young Nymph gained it's deformity. It could be through genetics which wouldn't be out of the question given how many you have and how some might be carrying bad genes. It is also possible given how young it was it could have injured itself and lost a leg or damaged the backside as the exoskeleton is still soft and vulnerable. Bad nutrition/living conditions could have led to this as well, but don't automatically think it was your fault when there could be other factors as to the Nymphs' unfortunate end. Sometimes things go wrong. But at least you're making them happier in the end now.
I was thinking the same the roach was giving birth on a steeply inclined stick so the nymph falls to the ground and maybe damaged the leg never know really?
Blake Lang Incects are unlikely to be damaged by falling from ANY height due to their low mass relative to their surface area giving them a small terminal velocity.
StreetJustice018 Good point! I’m curious as to how long this colony has been going without any fresh genetics. If it’s been a long time genetic problems like the one discussed in the video might become more common. I’d love AC to weigh in on whether this might become an issue in the future!
The first video I saw of your was when fire nation moved into it's new setup. Someone shared the video on an aquarium page I am on on facebook. I was just going to look for a moment. But I ended up watching it all in one shot. Now I am addicted to your videos.
You see a roach one the wall. You reach to get the spray, except there is another roach on it. You go towards the flyswatter, but the room it’s in is full of flying roaches.
We do have a different type of roaches here (other than the normal house roaches) we call them "little earth roaches" and whenever we see them in our houses its because its rainingtoo much and they just dont want to drown on the wet dirt outside. We usually put them back outside and never kill them. They're too cute to kill.
The deformed baby cockroach made me think of this. Have you read about one of the newer branches of genetics called epigenetics? We now know that various parts of our (and other living things) DNA code can be switched on and off depending on the environment, diet, medicines, chemicals, etc. This can have long ranging impact. For example in humans... The diet of the mother impacts not just the baby... but the eggs that are developing in the ovaries of a female fetus. In this way the diet and health of the mother impacts not just her child but also directly that of her grandchildren! So the improvement of your roach habitat and feeding may very well lead to healthier babies and future roach generations... and the same for the ants that feed on them! 😃💖
OMG! Interesting! I sure hope so because as I watched this video over a few times I did notice many deformities in my batch (e.g. oddly shaped wings and antennae) and I still buy new blood every few weeks, so I feel it must be environmental/diet. Thanks for the insight!
AntsCanada This is a good into to epigenetics ua-cam.com/video/kp1bZEUgqVI/v-deo.html and if you want to explore more there are some great Ted Talks and a Nova clip. There's a good chance that the "new blood" you buy come from similar setups as your 1st one (or worse as they may be more cramped)... but if your babies conceived and born in the new setup and then several generations more down the line may show a marked difference from your old setup and those from commercial suppliers! It would be interesting to compare those from your old setup (If you kept it going on the side) compared to those in the new setup as time goes on. But... that would be mean to the one group and you probably wouldn't like that. Still you should be able to perhaps make more of a qualitative observation over time about just the more natural setup compared to what you remember about the old. Not so scientific... but your anecdotal observations should still be interesting.
Same philosophy I had with the rats I fed to my pet snakes. I bought the healthiest rats that I could and chose one male and one female for my breeding pair. I chose the pair from the 6 rats I bought by observing behavior for a few days. I had one male rat who was very nervy and got away the first 3 times I reached in to grab a rat to feed to our snakes. He won my heart, when despite his fear he started to use his own body to protect and cover one of the females, always the same female, (the one I saw him mutually grooming with the most). So those two became my breeding pair. We gave them a huge set up with tunnels and containers and lots of fresh vegetables and fruits as well as high quality rat pellets. They produced so much young that by the time I retired them from breeding because Mom rat was getting up there in breeding age, we had a surplus of 30 rats despite feeding my 4 snakes every 7 to 10 days! I had to find homes for all the ones too big for my snakes to eat. I gave the male rat a large habitat where he ruled supreme over two of his sons until he died at age 4 1/2. Mother rat had a large cage next to his with two of her daughters. She made it to 5 years. The sons and daughters have also finally passed from old age and were pampered pets until the end. Three of the more long lived snakes are still living but since I have limited space and resources I no longer raise their feeder rats myself. I still strive to get rats and mice from healthy, stimulating living conditions and truly think it makes a difference to my snakes health and happiness, as well as my own.
Here in Australia, there's a species of cockroaches that lives in Queensland that's actually kept by kids as pets. It's called the giant hissing cockroach. They can grow huge.
It's honestly heartbreaking to see that you care so much for your prey cockroaches than some world leaders care for their people. You are truly a wholesome person!😊
I actually loved this video. You seriously make me care about all life. I feed my bearded dragon crickets. I'm going to improve their habitat. Thank you AC. Love, Ashton Zee (AC family member)
Your videos get more interesting and better as the weeks go... I just realized something! At 5:26 your feeding your cockroaches oranges that contains citric! That's the potential reason why your bearded dragon died...
Not really... dont believe the citric wouldnt be broken up by the roach and even if it wasnt I rly dont think it would be in enough quantity to be dangerous, NOW if he fed oranges directly to the beardie then it was absolutly the reason for its death
Gosh baby roaches are just too cute. Even bug babies can have slightly oversized heads! Oh gosh though that deformed baby is really sad though. I really respect your love for life, no matter how small. Im currently keeping a small colony of roaches to help feed the beardies, and my spider here, and this is great inspiration for a setup that isnt just a plastic tote. Some soil and way less egg carton is a definitely the first step.
Your compassion for these animals is so inspiring! And it’s true, better lives for prey animals means better lives for predators, and that includes us humans!
You have made me do two things I never thought I would do, number 1 you made me pray for ants, number 2 you made he cry over a cockroach #antloveforever 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜
Yay! Most species are cute, thanks for giving them a chance! Too many people assume that they're all like German Cockroaches... but it couldn't be farther from the truth. With that said, German Cockroaches are ligitimately bad. None of the good traits listed and litterally all of the bad pest traits... They even hurt, infect, and steal from pet roaches whenever they have a chance. Domestic Roaches are the bad guys... not the precious wild ones. 😔
calle it "Rancho Roach", because they are the livestock of the ants, but also now roam an open space, like a rancho, which is spanish for cattle farm. yeehaw!!!
Another amazing video! Cockroaches are nictophilic. Suggestions for the new homeworld's name: The cathedral of the night. The darklands. The glorious valley of the shadow. The forever land. The garden of Tao (I would definitely veer away from calling it 'the kingdom of night', since the term is used to refer to the holocaust.)
I absolutely loved this. It added variety and I definitely gained a new appreciation for roaches--i went from disgusted at the beginning to thinking they were cute and awesome
Another possible reason for the nymph's deformity is inbreeding. From time to time, you need to introduce new set of roaches to your current roach colony... Nyctophilia is my answer in this video's question. ❤
Okay they made me a little uncomfortable but when I saw them munching on the apples and snuggling with each other I thought they were kinda cute. And I almost cried at the defective nymph.
I have to admit, although the cockroaches are the ant's food it is sad that they are raised so well thinking they have the perfect life till one of them are chosen to be pre killed and fed to hungry ants
Yeah I understand the circle of life and I love all creatures including the creepy ones and gross ones people loathe I wish to become a Veterinarian and I hope to make an ant farm and buy some of your habitats for ants to do what you do
it would be like being raised in a claw machine, your all happy talking to your buddies, the next your being grabbed by a giant claw, and no one ever sees you again, i wonder if they see it as "being picked" or "going bye bye"
That little nymph with the deformity had me so emotional. To be honest, I REALLY don’t like bugs, but I was damn near crying when I saw that little guy. A new respect for roaches man.
I'm a local here in the Philippines but based on my experience adding them can improve alot as long as you dont go too hot. I used a large plastic container with egg boxes on them. I took care of red runners and dubias in those said containers.
I wonder if there was ever a lucky cockroach that was born in the terrarium, never got picked as food, and died naturally.
Yes, it happens a lot and I just feed the dead body to my ants.
AntsCanada It died naturally but still is a food to ant. I think ill never say that’s a lucky way to die 😂

Dolphinwithastick ISAGEEK Yes i have sympathy for all animals killed. Killing animals is wrong.
I'll explain later, let me finish my lamb chop.

I really dig your compassion and even love for these roaches. You've depicted them in a noble manner.

He should also consider adding new roaches to the gene pool every once in a while.
The flying roaches are monsters to me.

Yes. Let them all the flying ones burn in hell
You see a roach one the wall.
You reach to get the spray, except there is another roach on it.
You go towards the flyswatter, but the room it’s in is full of flying roaches.
*cough cough flying spiders cough*

Interesting! That is the longest living rat I have ever heard of! WOW!
AntsCanada i do not no if you will see this but you have made me notice every living thing has human type feelings thank you you are amazeing
Rick Mcgiveney if you keep thinking that you’ll have an existential crisis next time you step on a worm accidentally.
Here in Australia, there's a species of cockroaches that lives in Queensland that's actually kept by kids as pets. It's called the giant hissing cockroach. They can grow huge.
Yes, I had them as a kid, too in Canada. They are awesome pets and are definitely HUGE!

Not really... dont believe the citric wouldnt be broken up by the roach and even if it wasnt I rly dont think it would be in enough quantity to be dangerous, NOW if he fed oranges directly to the beardie then it was absolutly the reason for its death
Reptiles Rock wow just wow I wish I knew stuff like that 👍

Another possible reason for the nymph's deformity is inbreeding. From time to time, you need to introduce new set of roaches to your current roach colony...
