Fundamentals theoretically should work in all ELOs. With that said, following the fundamentals doesn't guarantee you a win. It simply is not possible to win all of your games. Sometimes, we feel like it doesn't work because we usually remember the times we lost more rather than the times we won as we might be under the impression that fundamentals should net us a win. I would say focus more on stability instead of winning and losing and everything should follow. Good luck.
My silver friend has actually been doing a climb to gold challenge where our group bet on how long he’ll take. I’m P3 and have been helping coach him, and he had the same sentiment where at low elo, you are forced to play for chaotic teammates and enemies. But I assure you (and he will now too) that doing these fundamentals will become super important! But knowing when to take fights and not being selfish the whole game seemed to be a really important skill he had to work on too, like what are the rewards, does the game depend on you guys winning a fight, what are your chances. Also would love to see a more in depth guide on team fighting if that’s one of the topics you’re considering making! I'd say a lot of the macro decision making falls under the other categories like Farming (side laning) or Roaming (which waves etc) but you could easily make it into it's own category honestly. I think macro decision making is definitely harder to work on because you don't get as immediate feedback, but probably the best way would be to watch a pro player and try focus on when they are side laning or when they are grouping/pushing etc. Feels a lot more knowledge based than something you kinda get repetitions on in game if that makes sense. Ur totally right about Apex comparison. It took me 4 months to grind master tier in Apex (maybe, playing CS:GO for a decade helped me a ton but it's still a new game which is kinda unique and barely has anything in common with CS:GO if we exclude aiming) , it's basically impossible in LOL since only learning champs and fundamentals are going to take you like at least 6 months. It took me 2 seasons to reach masters in LOL for the first time in s6.
Heyy, amazing video man, love it, u're explaining so well, and explain things no one else explains, thanks a lot for that I just have a question: Can you break down the main points of the others fundamentals you talked about pls ?
The biggest issue I've had in my on and off time with League, which I'm currently trying to just stop playing, is how what works against one person will just completely fail against another person playing the same champ. One night I played against three Setts back to back, all different guys. The first two I completely annihilated as Poppy. I mean, dude's couldn't hit their W's, I didn't let them ult me into towers, I punished their aggressive attempts at E stuns, could run bruiser Poppy I was so far ahead of them. And then the third guy. Suddenly he was landing those Es I was punishing, knew to follow them up with a W so the stun locks me into the true damage until I got some CC resist. I had to build tank and was basically worthless the whole game. I have no idea what happened. Dude wasn't even high ranked, on that account at least. It feels hard to learn ... anything when one game you can free farm lane, get massive CS, enemy plays like a coward, their attacks tickle and you laugh while nuking them under tower, and then the next game you play the same champ and he's beating you in the middle of the wave at level 1.
I think this is why it's important to just focus on fundamentals and not so much worrying about how your opponent is playing. If you play a solid game all around you should naturally do well against whoever your opponent is.
stuck at emerald ranking highest peak was like diamond 5 but i more enjoy the game rather than needing to be challenger however improving is always a good thing.
you really hit masters on apex in 200 days lmao, thats insane, i wonder if i would be masters on better setup.. btw amazing video, i have no clue how can something this informative be free today, when everything on the internet that is informative requires you to spend money for it.. ur insanely good person tysm

You made a lot of videos about laning phase, but I'm interested if you could make a video about getting midgame and lategame pressure? I feel like most people in my elo (gold), and me included, don't really know what to do most of the time after the early game ends.
Hey shok, one of the things I think I need to work on the most is my map awareness and use of F-keys. How would you suggest I keep track of this in my reviews? It seems a lot more ambiguous compared to some of the other more discrete fundamentals. As always awesome content! I’ll definitely be popping into your streams soon.
Ooh yeah this is a hard one. I think you could build it into a trigger/habit. For example, every time a new wave comes mid it could be a reminder for you to use F keys to take a quick look at everyone else on your team. Then you could review your POV (if you have outplayed.gg) to see if you did that.
I'll looking forward for your "breakdowns" of each fundamental, awesome content so far! keep it up! Literally smurfing on YT, are you planning streaming too?

As a fairly new player to league with aproximatly 3 months of league, I have lots of questions! If you could explain what a 1-3-1 is that would be great. And also i would like to know more about wave managment, if you could recomend me any tips or maybe some tricks that would be helpful!
1-3-1 refers to players in the lane positions, so 1 player top, 3 players mid, and 1 person bot (to pressure all 3 lanes). I have a few videos on wave management so you should check out my mid lane fundamentals playlist!
Would it be possible to provide a google doc that breaks down the fundamentals just like you broke down laning? Not into the super super specific one but one tier of breakdown up from that. I am currently watching all your other fundamentals videos to try to come up with a list myself but I thought it might help others in the future.
Hey Shok, first of all, great video. I have one question: i had the problem in my games, when focusing on one specific concept like laning, the others, e.g. map awareness inevitably suffer from it, thus worsening my overall performance resulting in worse games and LP loss. Do you recommend using a smurf or flex queue or how do you approach this issue? Thanks
I'd say use a smurf or flex queue would both be fine. As long as it's somewhat representative of your rank e.g. don't play in bronze if your main is diamond, but plat might be fine.
hey shok, I don't know if you are familiar with irelia but if you can make a "how to play" on her I would really appreciate. I learned league basically through you and coach curtis so thanks a lot and keep it up!
Hey! Thank you for your video and greettings from germany! I'd like to know when you choose a speficic goal for a game and also achieved it when do you pick the next goal? Or in other words when do I know I can move on to the next goal?
Hi, thanks for the great content. Do you think Qiyana is a good one to learn mid fundamentals? I find her unplayable in lower elos unless you are smurfing. What is your thoughts?
I just started playing katarina and i think she is really fun, but i have the feeling that the laning/farming fundamentals are a bit different for her. Is that correct to think?
This is correct. I would say that Katarina is not really recommended if you are looking to overall improve at the game because she has less transferrable skills compared to other champions. You can also somewhat cheese the laning phase and skip it altogether by simply roaming. So if you are looking to improve at the game, I suggest picking other champions that have more transferrable skills like Ahri, Syndra, etc. If you are looking to simply gain LP, then feel free to go with Kat. Try watching Kat OTPs and observing how they are gaining leads on certain matchups and then transferring that lead to other lanes. The thing is, Katarina is a champ that somewhat focuses on punishing mistakes rather than pressuring your enemy during laning phase. You simply do not have the tools to have initiative in terms of lane control.
@@nightcrow2962 Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I played ahri a lot, but i feel like i lack damage to solo carry teams somehow, even if i build ludens. Do you think that is just because I am playing bad that i lose most games with ahri? Or do you know other assasin like champs that these fundamentals do apply to like diana/fizz/qiyana/zoe/ekko/akali/talon etc? which can solo carry. Or shouldnt solo carrying even be my focus in low elo and just learn the fundamentals? I dropped from gold 2 to gold 4 and have been stuck in gold for several seasons, also because i change my champion pool quite a bit. But im now finally looking for a champ i can stick with.
@@ByteNinja-YT When you actually start learning the fundamentals, you can expect to drop most of your games initially especially when you are not used to doing them. This is because carrying with champions like Katarina and Talon is different from carrying with Ahri. From what you told me, you might have misunderstood Ahri's identity. There is a reason why Ahri is arguably the best mid-lane champ right now. With that said, you won't carry with her through her damage alone. She's a champ who excels in getting picks, roaming and neutralizing almost all matchups. Not necessarily killing all of your enemies like Katarina. Think of her like a Twisted Fate or Leblanc. Your job is to impact the map and set up kills for your teammates (hoping that they can carry you late game most of the time). If this playstyle isn't for you, then you might want to look for a different champion. When it comes to 1v9 potential, something like Yone might be what you are looking for. With that said, Fizz is also good for practicing fundamentals. It's just that there are some matchups that are unplayable. Unlike Ahri or Syndra who can neutralize bad matchups. All mid lane assassins except Katarina and Talon should help you with fundamentals so feel free to use whatever you enjoy the most. It really depends on what your goal is. Is it to improve or to climb as fast as possible?
Whats your thought on learning in Normals vs Ranked? I know Ranked is better and stuff but it can also be very stressful and more mental pressure that hinders me to be able to focus on learning too..
You'd probably have a lot of the same, but instead of laning you would have stuff like pathing and ganking. If you ask on Nathan Mott's channel he might give you specifics since he's a jungle main.
Probably stuff like pathing, playing around lanes, farming (putting the games on CD efficiently), objective control etc. I'd recommend asking a jungler
my difficult is find a mid champ to otp. last year i otp garen top and ww mid and i climb easy to gold 2 almost gold 1 now im silver and i switch too much champ can u help me?
Nah, I've played every role in Challenger. Also I've played both ADC and Top in competitive for a little bit. So I think I'll be able to coach all roles, though mid lane is definitely my best.
Fantastic guides man, I have a question, I am back in the game now and my placements are in Iron 2, I will get fed, and then in midgame either of 2 things will happen, my team decides to play aram, I go with them and lose any xp gold advantage I had, or they will refuse to pressure the map while Im sidelaning and I get stuck with teammates who refuse to contest anything and we just lose slow and steady, sometimes I feel so helpless in these situations because I know exactly what to do but my team will not listen. Do you have any advice on this or should I just accept it that it happens and that I can not do anything about it?
If you have TP you can mostly just side lane and TP to fights, if you don't have TP then you probably want to push out sidelanes and then group. If your team fights without you, try trade as much gold as you can on the other side of the map
@@ShokLeague I do play with TP however more often than not they will not throw any wards for me to TP onto, and while I come into the fight I dont even get the chance to cleanup, i.e. I push bot just one wave and as soon as I go to farm it my team gets engaged on (and this was near me in bot jg), dies and I come there to clean up but more often then not trade 1 for 2 or 3 and they can still push or take objectives, eh I guess I just jave to play as you said and some things are just out of your control.
Any advice for ADCs? Im starting to play rankeds and I mainly play on ADC and sometimes I feel that I cant do anything even If im fed or I feel that my team is useless (honestly I want to get rid of that way of thinking but is really hard in low elo) and sometimes I cant do anything in laning phase, I get hard pocked or I always die to jungle ganks.
Keeping up in farm/levels is the most important, if you fall behind as ADC you don't do anything. Try aim for 10 CSPM, you won't get it every game but it's a good goal. Dying to jungle ganks will mainly be a warding/wave management problem. Can't really speak for your laning phase without knowing more.
But when I focus on very specific things like punishing when they go for a cs i only improve in my early game and then mid and late game go to waste or do I have several things that I focus on? Like 1 thing for early game, 1 for mid and 1 for late?
Hey first of all great and very insightful video❤ I'm bronze at the moment and i'm an adc main(probably a bad choice in low elo but idc😂), hopefully improve enough to get out of bronze :D
Refers to lane setup in the mid game, so a 1-3-1 would have your mid/top laners in the side lanes, and your 3 (adc, supp and jg) playing on the mid wave. More normal setup in the mid game is 4-1, with whoever has TP up out of the mid/top laner in the side lane.
really great video, im a akali OTP, started playing last year and am currently plat 1 in Brasil server, but recently in feeling some kind of burn out, do you have any tips on how to reset, i play like 3 to 5 games and start to fell stressed even if i win. also on another note, also played a lot of star craft 2 made it to master 3 in 2020 with toss really love that game hope that microsoft gives it a chance on a SC 3 or at least bring updates wonce actvision blizzard sale is completed.
Hmm, honestly I'm not too sure how to fix burn out. You could try taking a full week off the game or something? Or maybe just start smaller and take a 5 minute break after games that make you feel stressed/tilted? I hope SC3 comes too!
@@ShokLeague its not a single thing, i dont tilt while playing the problem its after the game, i feel i could have done much more, and played much better, obviously if i stomp i feel good, but if im not playing optimal i feel a bad sensation after the game is done. Maybe im overthinking,i will try to take breaks between games to see if it will help.
"a few hundred hours later I was master tier". That's the issue right there. You can't coach that. Some people have that Asian level talent that can just pick something up, put nearly no investment into it and completely master it. People have put thousands of hours into that game and others and have never, and likely will never, see anything close to those kinds of results. I think at the end of the day the most important factors for these things are mechanical skill and dexterity, as well as composure. The one constant I've seen in high level players is they can get completely shat on by a low elo player while their team is fucking a football 5 meters away from them and they just laugh about it and it's out of their mind 3 seconds later. The average league player, and I'd put myself into this category, has that happen to them and for the rest of that game if not partly into the next game, can't stop visualizing how it would look to reach through their monitor and strangle their team mates. Rage. Completely useless virtue and a total hindrance. And for those people it's also nigh impossible to control.
I just fucking suck at this game its embarrassing to be so bad I just wanna be able to say I was at least decent at it. 75 games played on sylas at 60% win rate but it’s going down now.. stuck in silver1 was stuck in bronze1 so I haven’t improved at all in 2 years idk maybe the game isn’t meant for me
Sorry I should've explained it, a 1-3-1 normally refers to the lane assignments and the people in them. For example 1-3-1 means 1 person top, 3 people mid, and 1 person bot. A 0-4-1 would mean 0 people top, 4 people mid, 1 person bot etc
"No Bullshit Guide" More like "No Shit Sherlock Guide" Made by Captain Obvious. Sorry but these are not very helpful. Show some ingame scenarios and explain some stuff
I mean you can always just leave the video instead of expressing your futile opinion. There are a lot of people that find this video very mind opening and clearing for the aspects of the game myself included and if you think that you don't need this video and you are way too good for it then good for you but to say that the video is of no use is meaningless and a waste of time.

Heyy, amazing video man, love it, u're explaining so well, and explain things no one else explains, thanks a lot for that
I just have a question: Can you break down the main points of the others fundamentals you talked about pls ?
If you go to my channel and to the mid lane fundamentals playlist it should have everything you're looking for!
Great video once again ! Thanks for the work, this channel is really amazing !
Great video, really like how indepth you go, looking forward to the streams too! Keep it up :D
Glad to hear your streaming definitely gonna tune in. What type of content you think you’ll do over there?
Will mainly be solo q, but I'll probably do some vod reviews of either myself or some of the MSI pros. Maybe viewer vods too? I'm not too sure.
Was hardstuck Bronze for 400 Games, started following your content, just hit gold 4 with a 71% winrate this split
Congrats big man
You put so much work in your videos and I always learn so much. Thanks man!
Thank you
The biggest issue I've had in my on and off time with League, which I'm currently trying to just stop playing, is how what works against one person will just completely fail against another person playing the same champ.
Very good guide as always! I'm getting a lot better thanks to you, keep the good work; loved the Apex gameplay pog
Thank you! Gotta keep sneaking in these Apex clips where I can
stuck at emerald ranking highest peak was like diamond 5 but i more enjoy the game rather than needing to be challenger however improving is always a good thing.
Thank you for this content. It really helps for a new midlaner like me.
watching this useful video knowing that i will never put anything on practice but it's entertaining
HAHA thank you man
you really hit masters on apex in 200 days lmao, thats insane, i wonder if i would be masters on better setup.. btw amazing video, i have no clue how can something this informative be free today, when everything on the internet that is informative requires you to spend money for it.. ur insanely good person tysm
Much appreciated homie, setup matters a lot of Apex so worth sorting out
@@ShokLeague yeah i figured, although im really not that smart for league, ive been playing it for around 10 years on and off and im plat hardstuck my whole life.. peak d4 and ur vids helped me a lot yesterday i ve been really using my mind properly
Your content and your guides are all amazing , really good job i love this channel
Thank you shok now I know what to improve upon before my state tournament on saturday 👍
Saw this video and insta subbed. Keep up the good work!
You made a lot of videos about laning phase, but I'm interested if you could make a video about getting midgame and lategame pressure?
I feel like most people in my elo (gold), and me included, don't really know what to do most of the time after the early game ends.
Yeah it's definitely a place I need to cover more. The mid game section of my farm like chovy video might be helpful but it's not that long.
I think your my favourite youtuber for league pc by alot
best educational video for league ever
How fast do you think people can improve without watching their own replays, or do you think it's a necessity for fast improvement?
Not a necessity, watching other people's vods will be enough. I don't think watching your own replays really becomes a requirement until high level.
I find it so funny that we're talking about reaching challenger when my dream is to get to plat. Great video m8
Aim for the stars bro
I'll looking forward for your "breakdowns" of each fundamental, awesome content so far! keep it up!
Literally smurfing on YT, are you planning streaming too?
Yep! Will be streaming in a week or so on twitch.tv/shoklol
Hey rly nice video thanks, btw what dpi are u used to play does it matter for unpredixtable movement and that like clicking alot fast and close aswell ? Or its just about clicking and thinking
I use 2k, used to use 3k, I don't really think it matters much though. I think maybe if it's too slow it's bad but otherwise it's fine.
@@ShokLeague heyy thanks for answer ! I dont have problem with clicking i do it rly fast but mostly with speed i will need to use to higher one somehow
@@ShokLeague thank you! I wish you all the best
Would it be possible to provide a google doc that breaks down the fundamentals just like you broke down laning? Not into the super super specific one but one tier of breakdown up from that. I am currently watching all your other fundamentals videos to try to come up with a list myself but I thought it might help others in the future.
It might be something I do one day but not in the near future
Hey Shok, first of all, great video. I have one question: i had the problem in my games, when focusing on one specific concept like laning, the others, e.g. map awareness inevitably suffer from it, thus worsening my overall performance resulting in worse games and LP loss. Do you recommend using a smurf or flex queue or how do you approach this issue? Thanks
I'd say use a smurf or flex queue would both be fine. As long as it's somewhat representative of your rank e.g. don't play in bronze if your main is diamond, but plat might be fine.
King did it again boys ... nice video ty
This video deserves a follow
Thanks for this content. Can you make a teamfighting guide in the future pleas?
Yessir!
Again an insane vidéo wich will help me a lot ! Ty for your work
hey shok, I don't know if you are familiar with irelia but if you can make a "how to play" on her I would really appreciate. I learned league basically through you and coach curtis so thanks a lot and keep it up!
I don't really feel high enough level on her to make a guide, I might do a review though. You could also check out Coach Curtis' Irelia guide!
@@ShokLeague no worries :) and I will look into to it, thanks for the heads up!
Do you have any tips for scoring yourself in these categories?
Not really unfortunately
Love your videos, thank you!
your content is insane
Hey! Thank you for your video and greettings from germany! I'd like to know when you choose a speficic goal for a game and also achieved it when do you pick the next goal? Or in other words when do I know I can move on to the next goal?
Just when you feel like it's become a habit for you, I'd recommend spending at least a few days to a week on building each habit
Hi, thanks for the great content. Do you think Qiyana is a good one to learn mid fundamentals? I find her unplayable in lower elos unless you are smurfing. What is your thoughts?
I think she is for the most part, she is a bit difficult though so it might be easier to learn the fundamentals on a simpler champion.
ME: I'm gonna practice Viktor's skillshot adn wave clear tool E. I'm so excited!
RIOT: Nah bro, you're gonna play ADC.
@@nightcrow2962 Thanks man, this helps a lot!
Whats your thought on learning in Normals vs Ranked? I know Ranked is better and stuff but it can also be very stressful and more mental pressure that hinders me to be able to focus on learning too..
I think ranked is definitely better skill wise, but if the mental pressure hinders you then normals are fine, or you could play ranked on a smurf?
can u give me some adc fundamentals to work on ty
I'd recommend checking out arrowlol, he has the best ADC videos
Shok can you reccomend any content creator like you but with a focus on adc?
Hey what would the fundamentals be for a jungler, loved the video by the way very helpful.
You'd probably have a lot of the same, but instead of laning you would have stuff like pathing and ganking. If you ask on Nathan Mott's channel he might give you specifics since he's a jungle main.
For you whats the jungle's fundamentalls?
Probably stuff like pathing, playing around lanes, farming (putting the games on CD efficiently), objective control etc. I'd recommend asking a jungler
@@ShokLeague ok
GREAT CONTENT RIGHT TO THE POINT
I like ur content bud
my difficult is find a mid champ to otp. last year i otp garen top and ww mid and i climb easy to gold 2 almost gold 1 now im silver and i switch too much champ
can u help me?
Maybe something like Sett? Simple to play melee and can be played both mid and top.
Are you only going to coach Mid lane??
Nah, I've played every role in Challenger. Also I've played both ADC and Top in competitive for a little bit. So I think I'll be able to coach all roles, though mid lane is definitely my best.
How would you say we rate our own fundamentals scores?
idk just based off feeling, the exact numbers don't matter too much, just try improve at what you think you're weak at
Fantastic guides man, I have a question, I am back in the game now and my placements are in Iron 2, I will get fed, and then in midgame either of 2 things will happen, my team decides to play aram, I go with them and lose any xp gold advantage I had, or they will refuse to pressure the map while Im sidelaning and I get stuck with teammates who refuse to contest anything and we just lose slow and steady, sometimes I feel so helpless in these situations because I know exactly what to do but my team will not listen.
@@ShokLeague Just to give a bit more context this is iron placement matches
I'm a Iron 2 player and haven't improved for 3 years (gave up and barely played past 2 years). Will give your tips a try and let you know how I go.
Good luck :)

Yeah! Will do Ahri next pretty sure
But when I focus on very specific things like punishing when they go for a cs i only improve in my early game and then mid and late game go to waste or do I have several things that I focus on? Like 1 thing for early game, 1 for mid and 1 for late?

Great video
Hey first of all great and very insightful video❤
I'm bronze at the moment and i'm an adc main(probably a bad choice in low elo but idc😂), hopefully improve enough to get out of bronze :D

@@ShokLeague good mindset is key and of course draven 😂
Thanks a lot !
I feel sorry for your content Shok... because I'm just devouring it all :)
What is a 1 - 3 - 1?
Refers to lane setup in the mid game, so a 1-3-1 would have your mid/top laners in the side lanes, and your 3 (adc, supp and jg) playing on the mid wave. More normal setup in the mid game is 4-1, with whoever has TP up out of the mid/top laner in the side lane.
@@ShokLeague ah I see, thanks so much for replying!
really great video, im a akali OTP, started playing last year and am currently plat 1 in Brasil server, but recently in feeling some kind of burn out, do you have any tips on how to reset, i play like 3 to 5 games and start to fell stressed even if i win. also on another note, also played a lot of star craft 2 made it to master 3 in 2020 with toss really love that game hope that microsoft gives it a chance on a SC 3 or at least bring updates wonce actvision blizzard sale is completed.
@@lukasausen Yeah, I think I know what you mean but I also don't know how to fix it. Sorry :/

True, but I feel like I should mention it because a lot of people play Clash/other amateur tourneys
It’s not 99.99% of league if you get past the lowest elo lol
bayzed
I don't even know what a 1-3-1 is
Sorry I should've explained it, a 1-3-1 normally refers to the lane assignments and the people in them. For example 1-3-1 means 1 person top, 3 people mid, and 1 person bot. A 0-4-1 would mean 0 people top, 4 people mid, 1 person bot etc
