Hope you are all safe and doing well. It's been a while since I was in the process of making this extra long documentary for you guys. Stay safe and enjoy :) See you soon-
yeah, i like the new yorick kit, but i like much more the old design, being an ungly monster is cool too, not everyone need to be a handsome muscular man
Easily the most broken release in the history of the game. It's weird that no one talks about it, but the majority of the playerbase wasn't around back then.
@Henry Tang Evelynn became so bad after her stun was removed that it was considered trolling to play her. She used to be op and since no one knew how to counter her with invisible pink wards, riot intervened and removed her best part of her kit
@@i8u2manytimes stun from stealth was awful, and she'd often demand you go into a massive gold deficit buying expensive pink wards just for being on the map. She was the only jungler who could farm all game and still put all three lanes several hundred gold ahead
well that was the reason I played him. I liked old yorick, even thou he got nerfed. I played him. I also liked new yorick, but now he's basically nerfed into non-viability again and that kimda pisses me of, since one can now play Nasus - who actually got buffed massively in the same timespan, and have a better splitpush. the mechanics are also basically the same - smash Q, deal damage. if you hse your E well, deal more damage. I didn't mind old yorick being a sucky champ because his kit was fun and unique, despite all the nerfs. the rework somehow lacks that feeling.
These are NOT the four horsemen. You only named three. The first rider you didn't mention is justice and purity. Its a rather common mistake, maybe not a mistake at all considering pop culture believes famine, war, death and pestilence being the four riders. Death and famine is actually one and the same rider, so you only named three.
@@freakydude7336 old poppy was amazing. They should've kept her ult. New one is too trolly. Doesn't execute people even when you charge it up to full and they escape for free with 20hp
You missed the most important reason why the Yorick champion spotlight has so many dislikes: It was before the EU server split into EUW and EUNE, and the EU server was unplayable most of the time. You either couldn't log in at all, or if you managed to get into a game, you would often randomly get placed on the NA server with 100+ ping. The forums and Riot's youtube videos at the time were getting spammed with hate because of it.
@@kricketune5114 The old EUW server was set somewhere in France and they turned it off for maintenance every day at 2/3 am. Damn i played this game for almost 9 years D:
This is my least favorite recurring comment by far. It’s so stupid, generic, brings nothing to the table. Maybe the really League of Legends was the friends we made along the way. Maybe the real internet was the friends we made along the way.
I'm surprised that it was never mentioned how when he first came out, he had to be disabled because his ult was bugged and he was immortal and kept dying and coming back to life infinitely and could push the enemy core and couldn't be stopped.
Indeed we were... if only we could relive the sweet horrors which are still better than the current state of the game. #bringbackseason3 and also #bringbackactualcustomizablity #riprunesystem AND don't get me started on AP master yi...
@@chriswho12345 But inst the full power of it, imagine old yorick creates a copy(clone) like shaco if your ADC is so damn strong in the game imagine 2 of them beating the enemy arse
@@masonhall2987 Like every other laner has to. Meaning you have more pressure to ping the enemy jungler if they show and spread vision on your side of the map, which helps your team the same way they have to if they want to climb.
This reminds me of an old video about "winning by feeding", I need to watch that again! The idea was to feed kills to the enemy adc for some time, so the enemy team's strength was pretty much concentrated on one over-fed auto attacker. When this was achieved, you suddenly stopped playing like crap for a moment and killed the enemy adc in a team effort with a Mordekaiser R. Then copy the Mordekaiser ghost of the adc with your Yorick R and suddenly you have 2 copies of the strongest champ on the field, and you just run down the base in a single death push.
@qeuarfbhq3iwushbq actually picking nasus in high elo is a suicide option :> I'm d2 mid main. Nasus severely needs his stack to win the lane, ans if you dont win the lane in high elo unless your team is smurfing theres no real way of coming back, since high elo players know how to snowball their lead and put you more behind so that you cant catch up. With proper wave management and good pick nasus is a suicide pick. One can just build up a wave before level 3 while harassing nasus away of it and after you build the wave to a canon wave you can crash it and do a cheater recall or if nasus is low enough for you to solo dive him or if your jungle is a champ who can dive easily like elise then put him more behind by diving and making him miss those xps from the built up wave then do a cheater recall with an item and level advantage after that the wave would just bounce back to you so you dont rly have to do much but to make sure that the enemy wave would slow push towards you and freeze it in front of the tower with this method you can avoid nasus stacking and if he tries to break the freeze you should use your item advantage and level advantage altho be wary of minion damage since a built up wave actually hurts more than the enemy laner. Or u can just call your jungler since its a free gank since nasus would have to step up to get at least xp. Although you can also hard shove everytime with your lead and use your lead to snowball otherlanes its not advisable against nasus since he would be able to stack. Freezing is the best method as you said players are impatient so that nasus would 100% tilt and throw by stepping up and u can take advantage of it by either hard pushing to get damage to the tower or if your too low set up your freeze and recall. After laning phase you should use your lead to snowball objectives you should deny objectives like dragon against nasus since he scales pretty good. This is just how to put behind nasus during laning phase. If you know how to take advantage of this lead to win the game then thats nice.
He's still quite good against Darius. If Yorick doesn't win lane one way or another against Darius, that Yorick sucks. I went 2/6 vs Darius, because he grabbed a few kills here and there (never killed me once), he went 7/1, and I was still able to outduel him. He lost the game, and I won. The dude still thought that Yorick didn't counter Darius, when his laning phase was hell, only managed to go 7/1 because he made a bad roam that only got punished by me taking his turret, and was 30cs behind. Yorick is still good in low elo because people are bad. Hold my 62% WR in Bronze-Gold elo.
@@itachiuchiha4838 yeah, in EUW the server I am in, you can climb with nasus, sure, the highest possible rank you can climb with him is high plat, maybe low diamond too ( trust me I've seen dogshit low diamond players lmao) but after that, you are never winning lane unless you're picking someone in meta especially in the top lane, like you mentioned all the wave management and stuff that you can abuse out of nasus, that also applies to anyone with a weak laning phase or someone who just lost a 1v1.
There is infuriating detail about old Yorick that everyone seems to forget- his ghouls has bugged model/bounding boxes and were nearly impossible to click on. I recall losing games because of that.
Old Galio was a great counter pick for some matchups tho, he even got more popular before his rework came in. I honestly would prefer the old champions alongside new champs with the reworked kit instead of losing the old kits.
H Arz he was a support counter pick which lasted like a week or two in europe if i recall correctly. Some dude flash 4 man ulti which looked sick and got people talking about it. But then after that game everyone figured out they can just build mercs then he wasn’t a champion anymore kekw.
Top: *gets heavily nerfed for no reason* Jungle: the games depend on how well I play so I choose to farm all game and blame it on my team. Mid: if my champion doesn't one shot every champion in the game and with no counterplay around them then my lane is weak. ADC: I hate mages,I hate bruisers,I hate assassins,I hate juggernauts,I hate tanks and I hate supports.*proceeds to dominate toplane* Supports: I wanna be a support, tank or healer or enhancer but with current champion designs I am an assassin and hypercarry mage.
top didn't get 5 buffs in a row? also, if every lane lose before you clear your second camp, or even more common, if your mid lane lose, jungle is pointless; also also, ever tried to play a bruiser or semi tank in mid?
I main Aurelion Sol mid. Words cannot describe how badly I want to uninstall after most games, especially when the Jungle doesn't gank. At least I have some fun voicelines though.
Man that final statement really made me think. What if riot, instead of just straight up nerfing a champion, just released a guide on how to play against that champ on their main channel? For example: " We've seen that a lot of players have been struggling against Garen, here are a few tips on how to face the demacian vanguard! " It would actually be cool, interacting and promote gameplay.
but then you'd have the set of players complaining and going all "ugh you just cater to the idiots, how about you let people learn how to play the game and stop treating them like idiots!!!1!!!!11!" Same people who don't get why Akali continues to be nerfed despite the fact she is garbo low elo People are and always will be idiots and no matter what they do people will always complain about it. Some people complain about them nerfing too much, others complain they don't nerf enough some complain about too many buffs others complain about not enough buffs and surprisingly you have those kinds of people about the same champions.
Better than a tutorial video on how to beat each and every 120+ champiosn of this game, they just need to make it readable. What is the source of the damage, what is the source of the healing... Take Lux for example. She's not OP, but if you don't understand the hitboxes of her skillshots, she might feel completely unfair to play against. And recently riot made the animation of her skillshots much more readable. That's an excellent gamedesign choice (and also why I'm biased against her newest skins, I think her skills are less recognizable).
I remember that the hitbox on his ghouls were ridiculous. Playing any champion with a point and click ability (Vlad, Irelia, etc) was a painfull experience since you couldn't click on them before they got their damage on you.
Ill always remember "i guess we didn't have a read on the meta" as they locked in old urgot in season 6 or 7. Idr i don't even remember the team, just the phrasing and qtpie really fuckin concreteing the meme
dodge r and only engage if ur able to all in without getting kitet, know what his weapons do, alt + f4 or never got top or jungle or support and dont stand anywhere near a wall
You know what those champs remind me. At least leblanc and kass doesnt have a silence anymore. Some champs such but not being able to do anything sucks massive wiener. It was super fucked compared to now.
Yorick was the first champ i got lvl 5 with and i just loved to tell people about LoL, that it has dragons, knights, mages and all kinds of magical stuff, but i just trap people and smack them with a shovel. It just has such an amazimg sound effect
@@danneltheflannel I always wanted to try it, but in the PH region it hardly gets played so I haven't been able to. Note: majority of players in PH doesn't have a personal computer (or a good one at that) and internet, so most play on an internet cafe. Myself included.

I love when you call riot on their bad decisions on balancing the game, could you make a video on the most bug/hated/controversial rework ever? aka the client rework

At the time there was a saying: "if you want to see if a champion is viable top, you have to do the Yorick test. If you can survive lane against him then you are good"
Yeah, gotta love Riot with their changes and releases. Riot: "New Yorick is too complicated for low elo players to understand so we are nerfing him." Also Riot: "lol, Aphelios goes boom pew pow, you dead"
I have been searching this comment after watching this video. Its just so true… but its the riot approach. If they dont like it they wont do shit for the champ. The design in itself is pretty good tbh. A splitpusher similar to Nasus with decent early counters that just wants to wreak turrets…. and its kinda unique with his ghouls. Nut i didnt play him since the changes because the ghouls literally heal the enemy.
@@RB-xc9wg Haven't they literally only nerfed Aphlios ever since he came out? Like, even in the most recent patch they nerfed him. And in the one before that. And the one before that.
I have played Yorick for a while now, but when I first picked him up I was confused as to why we never really saw him in competitive play or high elo. I was dominating with him consistently, even when he was being nerfed. This video helped me understand why people don't really play Yorick. The pros started playing him after realizing his power, which led to him being nerfed. This caused the pros to stop playing him as he wasn't really viable in that high level play, which in turn caused the lower elo players to not play him much anymore due to low attention from Riot and little presence in competitive. People in low elos didn't (and still don't) know how to play against a Yorick, because they have never seen a Yorick, and don't really know what he does. This domination in low elos led Riot to keep nerfing Yorick, making even less people play him and have the knowledge to play against him. Nerfs to his stats wont do much if your opponent doesn't even know how to play against the idea of his kit. Why are newer champions always played in competitive? Well, the fact that they are new leads everyone to try them, which allows people to more quickly realize the true potential of their kit. This puts them in the spotlight in competitive play. But why do newer champions (and also the starting champions like Miss Fortune) often stay there for longer periods of time, while champions like Yorick get a small taste in the spotlight, yet quickly drop out? This is because Riot wants the new champs to succeed. Riot doesn't really care too much about the champs that aren't the ones that you start with, and also not the newcomers. This is because the starting champs are the first experience you get, and they want to make them great introductions into the game. And the new champs are making them the most money, and also keep you coming back for more, so they want them to stay in the spotlight as long as possible. Sadly, this leads to most of the champions in the game never really getting a taste of competitive play, even though they are champions that have lots of potential to be viable. These champions just get stuck in a loop, and can never really find a place to fit in. Although I still frequently crush people with Yorick, I don't really feel satisfied, because I know that I will soon get to a point where people will know how to play against him, making him not nearly as powerful as he is in my current elo. I picked up Yorick not because I could crush people due to their lack of knowledge, but because I genuinely enjoy his kit, and the fact that he simply becomes irrelevant at a certain point makes me really sad. I hope that Riot will try to give every champion a better chance to actually impact the game, as every single champion in the game has potential to be great. I spent over an hour on this comment, and I hope that you enjoyed reading it. Thank you.
I did read the comment, and I think the same way, I joined League of Legends in 2016, like 1 week before Kled was released, and I never saw Yorick until 2018, I then started playing him, but even if I know what he does and understand his cooldowns, I still don't know how to counter him, maybe because my lack of knowledge in the game, but I always wanted to know how to counter him, like understand the game enough to know how everything goes.
It all comes down to his kit being outperformed by other champ with similar kits. His ult being garbage and literally being brainlet fodder at low ELO. That's why no one plays him.
complaining about AD scaling into magic damage is funny to me when currently everything in the game scales to deal true damage lmao, who doesnt have true damage these days??
Old champs like twisted fate doesnt deal true damage, annie, pretty much every support and alot more champion but with all the items now its eash to deal true damage.
My dream is that one week, Riot makes a game mode where the old characters came back before their rework, hell, even global TF Don't forget to wash your hands often
Bruh, I was there is since beta, and forever favourite is gonna be hands down Kassawin, and cmon he and and LB had silence, at least his joke made sense then :D
They need to release new champs like jhin. Unique strong in some aspects weak in others with viable counterplay hes one of the best designed champs ever made
He's 100% the most balanced champion right now. Laning phase he's not extremely weak, and has outplay potential, but when he needs to reload there's the counterplay. If he gets fed there's still counterplay, but he is super strong without being oppressive. When he's weak, he can still farm and get kills without feeding. He's what all champions should be.
Hi, i play teemo for a living yeah, but his playstyle can be pretty braindead in some case like low elo by just splitting top, using the turret rune and the fact he scales health really well, makes him take a long while to take down and a threat that can take down turrets w/ ease, and open up other objectives as well
Rock Lee sion literally loses to nearly 1/4 of all top laners if played correctly. He doesnt have enough sustained damage, he relies too heavily onlanding q, E max with comet was nerfed to the ground, w max makes his all in just be straightup bad, and vayne exists. Even with all of these weaknesses, people in diamond and beyond still find ways to use him properly since sion’s macro play is very rewarding. low elo is low wlo, in my eyes they dont matter.
Old Yorick will always have a spot in my heart. The only season I seriously tried for diamond was season 6. I played mostly reworked Gangplank, but there was one champion who took my lunch money and shoved me in a locker...Fiora. I basically exclusively played old Yorick into Fiora and absolutely pub-stomped her every time. When I eventually hit diamond I had an 80% win rate on Yorick just using him as a pocket counter pick. Never would've reached diamond without him! I do enjoy the new Yorick nowadays though.
I haven't touched League of Legends for 4-5 years now. However I somehow sat through this entire docuimentary at 2am. Incredible video man, thanks for the throwback.
Everything on the old Yorick was so damn good. The lines, the fact that you didn't really need to skill your ult at 6 since your ghouls will tear everything apart - loved him
I miss the old Yorik so much, i love the fact that he was ulgy, just by look at him you would imediatly think "this guy, is one foot from madness" or something like that, but now he's just the cemetery chad... But nowadays, a champion that Riot want everyone to forget is Udyr, seriously, a honest think even Riot forgot him...
@@battlecubes4762 You're joking, right? It loses to any ranged top laner like Vayne, Ryze, Vlad because it has no sustain unlike the AD variant and rarely gets kills or is good in teamfights. It's just annoying in lane. If you'd rather, i could play Illaoi and 1v9 instead?
This reminds me of playing Poppy back in those days. There was an unspoken rule among the community: we don't talk about Poppy and Yorick. They weren't just strong, they were absolutely insane, and no one knew how to play against them. But because they were never talked about or played everyone thought that it was because they were trash champs. Poppy at the time had arguably the strongest ult AND the strongest passive in the game, and was a nightmare to deal with. It was a unique time, there is no champion in today's League that is treated with the same sort of taboo those two were back in old League.
@@davidevans7477 Uhh, he's talking about the past. ~2-3 years ago, I think. Yorick and Poppy are... just meh/ok today. They were hella fun tho. I still remember one-shot AP/AD Poppy and annoying as hell manamune Yorick.
To answer the title: Yes, yes I do I looked through the list of champions and saw yorick lonely and had never seen him in game. Interested I saved up my ip and bought him instead of googeling. He was my first real main and will remain in my heart
I had gold saved when yorick was released and after trying him a few times i decided to spend All My gold on a perfect runepage just for him.. The next Day they changed him and the runes i had used 3 months gold on became useless... I was pretty pissed
Same here with Galio... never seen one, so i saved my Ip to buy him. Got mastery 7 on him, climbed to Diamond 1 and suddenly... Galio Rework announced. He will be in my heart forever
only mistake about Karma before rework, was you entering lane thinking thats a trash champion. That thing was so broken you could destroy opponents so much they rage quit.
corki corresponds more to the description, Yone has only 25% magic dmg on autos so tabis are completely good against him, and his q are 100% physical damage that counts as auto attack on first enemy hit.
I want to know how the old Yorick one trick reacted to losing his champion. Before the Urgot rework I mained Urgot, and while admittedly he was not very good, the sheer lack of knowledge about Urgot that my opponent had was enough to stomp lanes hard. However, I have not played a single game of urgot since the rework. He had 0 similar abilities and just did not appeal to me anymore. I wonder if these mains still play their champs after they get so heavily changed.
I kinda of feel the same for my main Shaco, even though unlike Urgot, he never got a full rework. Although he is kinda hated, and rightfully so as he is very annoying to play against, it was his lack of power and real impact on the game after the early levels that made him appealing. He had his major build path, which was just abusing his backstab crit to one shot someone while building full lethality. But then he also had his ap build, which focused on his traps to outplay his opponents, rather than to be a traditional assassin. However, after his update his box can attack multiple enemies, and his ult fear went if immediately. While many shaco players love this, I liked it better when you had to use your superior game knowledge. Micro mechanics, and experience to outplay your opponent, rather than just place a box down in the middle of the team fight and let your clone be instantly killed for the fear. Maybe I’m just ranting about a one sided complaint, but I think we both feel the same about our respective mains, even though mine was not fully reworked. If Shaco was ever reworked and changed around like urgot, I might have just stopped playing him.
Used to play a lot of Old Yorick. New Yorick is fine, but a completely different character. I play it a bit and have fun, but that's not out of any sense of obligation since the original Yorick is long dead and deleted.
Old Urgot mid lane was fun, your opponent never tried to dodge the e, leading to a rain of q in their directions. Old Urgot ultimate was one of the worst in the game though, it had its uses, like bringing an oponnent under tower, but still was useless in most situation.
I used to be a Yorick OTP back in the day, rework made him a completely different champion. I'm over it now but when new Yorick came out I was really upset and frustrated feeling like I had completely lost my reason to play the game, I no longer play Yorick at all and almost completely resent the new reworked Yorick for what feels like taking away my favorite champion ever made.
I really want that video on Galio. He was literally only changed because he was unpopular. Not because he was broken, or underpowered, or having a kit that doesn't work. No, everything about his design was fine. It's just that he was unpopular, so they made a new character, slapped the Galio name on it, and called it GG.
Nothing has ever been as broken as AP Tryndamere back in the day. Insta full heals on like 3 second cooldown, 700 damage spin with virtually zero cooldown, lichbane proc between every spin that hit even harder. Those were fun times.
I really miss the old Yorick even tho i main the new one. Its pretty hard when all your mains get a rework (Sion, Urgot, Swain and Aatrox) i dont like to play a single one of those anymore but luckily i‘ve got my Yorick OTP
Yorick was sooo funny to play xD i loved his walk animation xDD and the best thing was when he says "YOU WILL REMEMBER YORICK MORI!!" xD i miss him so much
"I Figured only 1 other champion could rival as much hat...surely teemos champion spotlight would have the worst like-dislike ratio" Seraphine has entered the chat
same with poppy and urgot man , they changed them cause no one knew how to play them , but they were great , they didnt get powerspikes like yasuo with 1 crit item or zed before his passive tweeked and still were awesome , but riot decided to destroy them cause you need to play the champ the way they want you to , not the way you want it to be played
Oh the nostalgia you're giving me. Yorick was the first man to let me climb on his back and carry me out of my elo (new Sion after that; Sion is a massive sleeper OP if you stay off his recommended items and go for a bruiser build)
9:45 sounds like some kind of deja-vu... have I heard something similar recently? Seriously, just swap “Yorick” with “Aphelios”, “minion” with “skill”, “ghoul” with “weapon” and gg you have exacly what the 200-collective-years-of-experience company told us about Aphelios...
He can't use all his weapons at the same time though, and you actually have to pre-plan and use his weaponskills and combos properly to get to the OP stage. Yorick spawned things and ran at other things and didn't give any fucks that'd make a honeybadger seppuku in shame.
It's also worth noting that InvertedComposer understood something that a lot of other people who'd pick up and play Yorick for a few games didn't understand about the champ. For as strong as his dueling, sustain, and damage reduction passive were, they were not good enough to let Yorick excel in teamfights like other tanky champions. Yorick's role during teamfights was to be on splitpush duty (where his incredible dueling potential shines to deter the enemy team sending people to him) or to play as a tanky backline caster that eats skillshots and spanks assassins for your ADC/Mid. Lesser Yorick players would apply their "run them down" mentality from laning phase to teamfights and just get kited, CCed, and blown up either forcing them to ult themselves or just dying without using it which was a big part of Yorick's perceived "win lane, lose game" mentality of the time.
Warwick was a great rework, but he can be tuned more for a greater effective play and more counterplay can always be added. Just because the professionals aren't playing it, doesn't mean that it can't be improved
@@walkerred8220 i dissagree, the new ww is a pain... I started to play lol s4 as ww only and i can tell you it was fun ,the rework is buggy and feels horrible. New q Pressing q without a indicater is just strange and the port after it does not feel good, not for the ww or the enemy. His new w is a mess, pathing issues every where. Having a skill that is only usfull when you dont need it anymore is frustrating. The ultimate is as bad as the w, when ww gets speed he jumps further but when he gets slower his range decreases this means if you get hit by a 70 % slow from any thing just before you jump you will make a baby jump insted of a across the screen jump + the Animation for missing is just pure pain... Dont get me wrong, the theme is perfect and the spirit as well. But playing this champ is like giving away control (q long charge) feels random, w is bugged even if you follow the red Path, your w gets usfull when someone is really low, but i see ww's Problem in getting enemys low and even when you get someone low it should not be the tank. The R is just bad compared to "leauge of dash" and slow Masterie's like glacial, the self cc over this ult Animation is even worse. I think old ww's kit would still fit in the game with champs like Garen Malz and Sett
During this time, you cannot win lane against a Yorick. I'll never forget that one match where I made him go 1/7 and he still managed to backdoor so rapidly. His pushing power is insane.
The old Yorick kit was at least 60% of everything that kept me playing the game. He was just the most fun champion to play, and him being a fringe pick only added to the fun - most people had no idea how to deal with him and got bullied into oblivion. Even after the nerfs, if you knew the champion, he was everything you needed. Want to check a bush, but are out of wards? W into the bush, if there's someone there they'll also get slowed and damaged. Running out of life? E. Boosting your movement speed with Q required a bit of skill, he was not a Garen that was just "press Q to chase someone and finish them off". When they reworked my boy I felt really betrayed. I'm still sad to this day, I would be playing and enjoying League nowadays if only old Yorick still was a character. I've spent most of my history with this game playing Yorick (at least 70% of my games), and then he was gone, just like that. I don't like the new, shiny aesthetic of League. I don't like the streamlining, where every character has a highly defined role in the game. It all feels very sterile now. Seasons 0-4 of the game were the peak period of the game - people weren't trying so hard to optimize fun out of the game, and the so called "ugly" artstyle was very charming. At least there are still some old, fringe champions left in the game, Udyr is a nice blast from the past for example, but goddamn, without the old Yorick there really is no point, at least for me. Yeah, I'm a League's boomer, but what I'm really doing here is voicing a perspective of a minority, of people alienated by Riot cutting their favourite parts of the game.
I feel you man. When I discovered old yorick, it was the best time for me in league. I spammed him EVERY GAME. I loved everytime someone would ask me if he was a new champion or what yorick was. Nobody knew him, and that was awesome. He wasnt OP, but just super fun because you could surprise anyone with him. Eh I miss it so much
New League is truly an Std. I would agree, with season 4 being the downfall where a few patches at the tail-end of it was just.. Bad. My favorite champion was Malzahar and Karma. Karma was reworked into a bullshit lm streamline mage. Her old kit was BUSTED if you could utilize it properly. I managed to 1 v 5 as old Karma and with the new one it was just... Hard to do. Malzahar was a POWERHOUSE. Then they ruined and reworked his kit. And nerfed him. He is no longer a fun champion I used to lane push, Bully and get at least 15 kills a game. A combo from Malz would 100-0 an enemy. New Malzahar I had 4 items and I only did 60% of their health as damage WITH A FULL COMBO. Riot isnt building the game for people to have fun anymore, they're building it as a competitive sport solely. They couldn't give a FUCK about the players that are casual and trying to have fun. They don't have to really worry about ever falling off. League dominates the Twitch streams.. They'll be raking in money until the end of time. It's too Bad cause I miss the old Riot. Where Halloween had the Harrowing map, and the Christmas had the Winter map.
I prefer the old runes, but it'd be nice if they were free like when they were going to update to the new rune system. Turns out the game was way more balanced when everyone had access to the same runes! Also, the runes were indirectly pay to win, because while others spent their IP on champions, people who bought champions with RP could spend all of their IP on runes instead.
i really missed back in the day when i played only support and had FULL armor and MR runes, and was the tankiest beast on botlane which basically was unkillable. i don't miss any of my other runes at all, but damn i miss my tanky rune page where having like +15-16 armor and MR at the start of the game was huge
Yorick was one of my favorite champions before the rework, even though he was terrible at a normal match. He was amazing for absolutely destroying your opponent in lane to the point they may end up with 1/4 of my farm, and you could even win a 1v2 if the jg shows up to gank and you have your ultimate, but at the end of the game he was nothing but dead weight, barely contributing at all after the laning phase, all he could do was ulting the ADC and hoping they were half decent players. But the real fun was playing obscenely one-sided 1v1 matches against friends, for a very long time Yorik was undefeated, all of them hated him and considered him the most broken and frustrating champion they ever faced, even though they were on a similar skill lever to me, if not better, they didn't stand a chance when I used Yorick. And that's what the old Yorick was all about, he may not have had the most engaging gameplay, or was the most viable champion to pick in a serious match, but all the sadistic fun from making your opponent absolutely miserable as they get heavily punished for even daring to attempt killing a minion in your presence is something no other champion will ever give me, because it takes a terribly poor character design to create a champion whose only purpose is making your opponent rage.
Right before rework was when darius was the most broken (at least in my experience). I would play yorick every game and tell my team not to ban darius, just so i could crush him in lane. Ahh, fun times!
I started playing Yorick in late 2019 and I really liked his kit, it was so unique and simple. So, for top, he's always been my main pick. Obviously, he's very weak until level 6 and is heavily reliant on ganks or counter ganks, but I love how he easily destroys towers and objectives. He's super useful in team fights, he can slow, trap and do heavy damage to anyone. I just wish he wasn't so team reliant. That's never good for solo queue.
You must not have played in 2016 and 2017. If yorick wasn't winning lane top it was because someone had a champion that could hold out against him and knew how to play defensively. In which case he would just hold lane till level 6 before beating down the enemy 2 or 3 times and then start running all over the map making more bodies. Because after all, the difference between a good necromancer and an enthusiastic necromancer is a good necromancer waits for bodies to naturally present themselves. Where as an enthusiastic necromancer is all about making new ones to play with. It was a good thing tha the had medium high difficulty for learning and playing him. Well also not a good thing. Pretty much you waited to see if someone was just learning and wasn't any good. If they weren't any good you could take him in a teamfight. If he was any good you just FF'd at 15 and banned Yorick on the next game. Lol. Then again those 2 seasons they didn't really have good free rotation champions. The only had the stupid over complicated to play (like Azir, Nasus, Chogath, Camile, Kalitta, Oriana, Akali,Akari, Riven, Irelia, Talia, old Heimerdinger, urgot, Fiora etc) or ones that weren't complicated but were just stupid and under powered champions like old Warwick, Garen, or old amumu. Back then free rotation pretty much. Sucked. But they hid most all of the champions that were pretty easy to pick up as far as how they worked, stalled well and could hold their own even in early game.
If u pick irelia into yorick, it's practically free win for u. Cause Q'ing the gouls gave u all the stacks + hypermobilty. Then just jump onto his head and finish it. His cage is also useless against her
29:38 thats me PogU, in all seriousness im glad you identify that the nerfs done to yorick later on were pure heresy done by riot games. Maybe this video can bring more light to it :D
*"Do You remember the Champion so broken Riot tried to hide it?"* No, but I do remember the time Exil had less than 20k subs. Its good to see your channel steadily growing Exil! I still think your channel is underrated though, you deserve more subs.
I see a lot of similarities between the "Yorick Hypothesis" and the video that Doublelift put out back in July 2018, where he also put forth the argument that Riot messes with the game too much, from more of a pro player's perspective. His argument focuses in part on the fact that constant patches mean that pro teams have to do constant scrims to remain relevant (and may not even necessarily figure out the most OP strats on their own), but it overlaps with yours in the "get good" aspect. One of my favorite parts of that video is when he talks about Brood War's PvZ matchup, which was heavily skewed in favor of Z for a long time, but then got completely flipped on its head. It wasn't due to a patch change, but rather a very intelligent player creating a brand new Protoss strategy that would then be copied by pretty much every player to follow. I *love* that you touch on this towards the end of the video. I've always had the mindset the Riot fucks with the game way, way too much. Too bad they're very unlikely to change.
Yea bro, Better Games ? Nahh , All Support Champ deal dmg , Juggernaut Undie Champ , All Rework champ buff like hell 😁 Riot Out Of Idea but Still want Money from players , sad.
I'm a Skarner main (a long time Skarner main) and I can pretty safe say that Skarner was a solid pick against Yorick. The shield and the E healing was really good to sustain against Yorick's poke. You could pretty much outsustain his damage until he's out of mana. Skarner's ultimate was always a good tool to force Yorick's ult (because you could just bring him to your turret) or even to kill him. And Skarner's Q was really good against the ghouls, because of the damaging area around Skarner. And last but not least, Skarner would have essentially no CD on his abilities, because Yorick was a melee champion, giving Skarner's passive much more value. Of course Frozen Heart was a pain, because of the attack speed reduction, but I always liked to run BotrK as a first item against Yorick, what kinda of balance things out, like if Yorick tries to slow you down to run, you could just activate BotrK and catch him pretty easily, and you had a bit of magic damage, so the armor from Frozen Heart was kinda of unused. And, of course, I'm talking about old Skarner, before the Juggernaut rework
It's definitely a carry-over but nowadays if you lose top you can help your team a lot sooner (laning was way more drawn out) and a lot more effectively, especially since tp is almost mandatory.
8:43 This is literally a lie. As someone who's been playing League a long time I can tell you that Rework Trundle is literally the exact same champion GAMEPLAY wise as he was before his update. This wasn't a gameplay update it was a visual overhaul. These skins weren't given out as an "apology" because Riot made such terribly designed champions they were literally given out as a thank you to people who played and purchased the characters before hand since Trundle went from a generic fantasy forest troll to a Freljord character. You're either blatantly lying about this to fit your narrative or you severely misinformed. Go ahead and Google pre visual update Trundle his abilities are all the same there was no "Oh we need to fix Trundle cause he's poorly designed" hes literally the same thing he was when he came out to this day. People don't hate new champions because they're broken (atleast I don't) there have always been broken champions coming out on release. The reason I hate them as a long time league player is because they're blatantly overloaded with extra stuff that older characters don't have. Why would I play the old characters that i've come to actually love when I can play broken new characters who aren't just broken cause they're overtuned but literally have more stuff then all my old champs? Remember League has been out 10 years and a lot of people have been playing for a long time. People have grown connections to these characters and when Riot goes out of their way to release new characters that are just straight up better than older characters the older players are gonna get pissed .We're not looking at old league and saying "Yeah old League was 100% better than new league with no issues what so ever". For me personally these new characters that have come out recently (I usually round it out to Pyke and everyone who has released after him) have made the game so unfun for me that I haven't played at all in the past year and a half I usually get on to play some ARAMs with friends and don't play any normal games anymore. To me League has become a shadow of its former self and watching your videos have just made me want Legacy League servers.
@@agelosvs2080 I could be stupid or missing something but I'm actually just really annoyed with this video. Specifically this part seemed like a blatant lie to me just to fit this guys narrative cause he knows newer players will just listen to what he says without looking it up. You can literally go look at the league wiki and see Trundle was only a visual update and not a gameplay update.
what frustrates me is meta compliency(is that a word?)... back then i used to go Garen+Ahri bot and having a blast or Shaco any lane. also loved Stark's(20% attack speed aura+20% inherent for 40% total) on Shaco. Nunu probably best example as he could go any lane any build. many weird builds and compositions been systematically taken out and variety surprisingly gone down despite addition of new champions. from a veteran of Noxus v Ionia war
Now now... they totally added a slow to his q! Gameplay rework obviously. But yeah he tells it like it wasn't to make a video all the time. Karma wasn't good enough so they had to rework her according to him. She was fine and fun to play just not popular enough for them.
The Trundle rework is a topic that instantly irks me. I loved everything about old Trundle. His kit, gameplay, and particularly his lore. His old lore was SO COOL! It made you feel sorry for the dude and made it all the better when you pounded enemies into the ground with him. It was heartfelt, inspiring, and best of all it was really unique. Then for no reason that I can find, when they came out with the Freljord updates, they made him an Ice Troll King. He went from being the savior of his tribe and having to house the entirety of a curse on his own shoulders, to a goddamn troll king. Unimaginative. Uninspiring. Such a shame.
31:04 this is exactly what is happening in CoD too. the devs for modern warfare said they had to improve the camping playstyle because some players are not good at moving around. that kind of thinking is how you ruin your game.
I think Urgot suffered a very similar fate. I loved that champ before he was basically gutted in a very similar way, though I must admit Urgot was OP. I still loved playing him in URF before rework. I even had a skin on him. I don't remember if I even tried the rework.
Old yorick was such a blast to play... His passive was he gained power for every ghoul up, and all of his abilities except for his ult were ghouls. His E was a lifesteal ghoul, and all of his ghouls benefited from the items you picked, so you could build trinity and everything else lifesteal, and you were unkillable.
Havent even finished the intro, and this dude is already speaking to me. I complain a LOT about how kitted some of these new champs are, but it is NOWHERE near how much I talk about how if old league champs were released in todays game, they would DESTROY the meta. Poppy (lvl ONE ult was as follows: "choose target, for 5 seconds, only THAT target can deal damage to you... yes, that included towers Yorick (well, he explained it. Yorick was genuinely broken if you actually chose to play him lol) Kassadin (when he was banned over 90% of the time, if that doesn't explain how broken he was, just look it up LOL) Galio (his W healed him for damage he took, need i say more?) Old Warwick (smite ult = kill, and ult was point click) I might be forgetting some cases, but GOD these champs would (in my opinion) break the game until hot fixed. Not like that isn't something we're used to in recent years, but the fear runs through my bones sometimes...

well that was the reason I played him.

You missed the most important reason why the Yorick champion spotlight has so many dislikes: It was before the EU server split into EUW and EUNE, and the EU server was unplayable most of the time.

Yorick used to be my pocket pick whenever someone picked darius or a cancer range champ :)
@qeuarfbhq3iwushbq I am a darius main and all i can say is that nasus can do nothing to stop darius. Darius got Nasus 9/10 times
@qeuarfbhq3iwushbq every nasus i have gone against is trash then. Illaoi is a big problem for me, i have never even defeated her in lane phase

Yeah, gotta love Riot with their changes and releases.
Riot: "New Yorick is too complicated for low elo players to understand so we are nerfing him."
Also Riot: "lol, Aphelios goes boom pew pow, you dead"
I have been searching this comment after watching this video.
Its just so true… but its the riot approach. If they dont like it they wont do shit for the champ.
The design in itself is pretty good tbh. A splitpusher similar to Nasus with decent early counters that just wants to wreak turrets…. and its kinda unique with his ghouls. Nut i didnt play him since the changes because the ghouls literally heal the enemy.
*but
@@RB-xc9wg Haven't they literally only nerfed Aphlios ever since he came out?
Like, even in the most recent patch they nerfed him.
And in the one before that.
And the one before that.
Nah Sett is the real deal
Aphelios is their worst creation. Worse than old Trundle and old Karma.
Thank you.
Feel bad to tell you the truth, but nobody read your comment.

Well written pal
It all comes down to his kit being outperformed by other champ with similar kits. His ult being garbage and literally being brainlet fodder at low ELO. That's why no one plays him.

They need to release new champs like jhin. Unique strong in some aspects weak in others with viable counterplay hes one of the best designed champs ever made
totally agree
He's 100% the most balanced champion right now. Laning phase he's not extremely weak, and has outplay potential, but when he needs to reload there's the counterplay. If he gets fed there's still counterplay, but he is super strong without being oppressive. When he's weak, he can still farm and get kills without feeding. He's what all champions should be.
Idk, sion for me is the most fairly designed champion in league. He has very rewarding but telegraphed abilities with reasonable counterplay.

Honestly same. Yorick felt like a 1v1 version of singed
I feel you man. When I discovered old yorick, it was the best time for me in league. I spammed him EVERY GAME. I loved everytime someone would ask me if he was a new champion or what yorick was.

He wasnt useless in late game - i made Pentakills with him all the time. I did quit LoL the moment they reworked him. T_T
His cage is also useless against her
Yorick enters a bar:
And there is no counter
29:38 thats me PogU, in all seriousness im glad you identify that the nerfs done to yorick later on were pure heresy done by riot games. Maybe this video can bring more light to it :D
Agreed, i really love playing Yorick but getting 1vs1 by someone that ignores the ghouls is just dumb
I watch you!
Dunkey + League of Legends. Now that's a combination I haven't heard in a loooong time.
Me, an OTP Yorick until it's rework:
"There was atleast one player playing Yorick"
"HEY IT'S ME"
"Invertedcomposer..."
"Oh..."
Imagine old yorick in season 10... Conqueror, trinity, death dance, sterak's, spirit visage, and manamune... Holy shit
@Allkh Well, exept for manamune, it's kind of a standard build for yorick now too, so i don't see why the items seem to matter so much to you
*"Do You remember the Champion so broken Riot tried to hide it?"*
No, but I do remember the time Exil had less than 20k subs. Its good to see your channel steadily growing Exil!
I still think your channel is underrated though, you deserve more subs.
I remember the giveaways every single video before rebranding to look like a naturally built subscriber base.
From anime to league, a true cultured man/woman/fluid/DUCK
Yes, I used to play Skarner on top lane. (For those who might ask)
“Top lane was known as the 1v1 lane back then, the island”. Back then?
It's definitely a carry-over but nowadays if you lose top you can help your team a lot sooner (laning was way more drawn out) and a lot more effectively, especially since tp is almost mandatory.
nowdays its better jungle wins top
there was once a time where jgs didnt perma gank the entire game.
that's why Hanshinshin got rank 2
"island" No top is just the jungle fest, better jg wins, 1 gank can ruin top lane, simple. l0l
It's the first time I agree so much with someone's rant
His quote came through, I remember the name Yorick Mori :c
Old yorick was such a blast to play... His passive was he gained power for every ghoul up, and all of his abilities except for his ult were ghouls. His E was a lifesteal ghoul, and all of his ghouls benefited from the items you picked, so you could build trinity and everything else lifesteal, and you were unkillable.
Exil uploads at 4am
*Everybody stayed awake until 5am*
that's too funny
Havent even finished the intro, and this dude is already speaking to me. I complain a LOT about how kitted some of these new champs are, but it is NOWHERE near how much I talk about how if old league champs were released in todays game, they would DESTROY the meta.
Poppy (lvl ONE ult was as follows: "choose target, for 5 seconds, only THAT target can deal damage to you... yes, that included towers
Yorick (well, he explained it. Yorick was genuinely broken if you actually chose to play him lol)
Kassadin (when he was banned over 90% of the time, if that doesn't explain how broken he was, just look it up LOL)
Galio (his W healed him for damage he took, need i say more?)
Old Warwick (smite ult = kill, and ult was point click)
I might be forgetting some cases, but GOD these champs would (in my opinion) break the game until hot fixed. Not like that isn't something we're used to in recent years, but the fear runs through my bones sometimes...
