Justin my man. This video has some major improvements edit wise. Loved the intro, and as always you were very thorough in your review. I’m totally biased towards Alienware, so it’s sad to see Alienware getting further away from the ranking it used to hold last year, but that’s what happens when you don’t learn from your mistakes.
Thanks so much for this thorough review! I’m looking to replace my current gaming laptop which is just melting itself to death. :( I wish companies would prioritize thermals over thinness. This laptop has definitely jumped to the top of my list. I’ve also heard good things about the Alienware m17 r5 for thermals, so I’ll be interested to see your full review of that as well. Any others I should consider from the perspective of prioritizing good thermal management in the current gaming laptop landscape?
This MSi design is the best I have ever seen. That sleek non gamer look great. There is absolutely no need to have rgb logo on the lid and rgb touchpad. But the light bar at the front facing you is great.
The quality of your videos compared to the no of subs doesn't make sense at all. You should have at least 1 mil. Your videos make me watch them till end, cuz they are so enjoyable even though I have no intention to buy the laptops. The only laptop i am interested is in this year's legion 7i. Please make a video on it when it arrives.
Thank you Usnish! I really appreciate that! Yeah subs will come eventually. Most of the computer review channels that have that many subs have been reviewing computers for 7+ years. Technically I've only been reviewing computers for about a year now. Subs are definitely coming faster and faster each day though!
You and MashIT are killing it. Subscribed. This machine suffers from the same problem as the GT77: the materials used feel and look B-grade and looks unfinished when you compare it to the X17 R2. One good example is the power brick on this and GT77 is this large box that doesnt look like it belongs to the laptop, while the X17 has this nice round and small power brick. Yes, this os faster, but how it look and feels is just as impressive. This has the specs and speed but looks terrible. And no Windows is a deal-breaker.
Great freakin review. I love my ge76 i7 3080 ti but now a tiny regret i didnt get the i9 but who knew that it would actually be able to use so much of the i9 processor when none of the others did.
Fantastic review. Thank you. I just purchased this laptop because of your review. It's arriving after Christmas. One question I have is how can I turn the glowing light strip off?
I agree with you COMPMETELY. Thinness in a gaming laptop DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. I mean if they have a cooling system that can handle the heat at that thinness, sure, but many companies limit the TGP to just make the laptop thin and that get's on my nerves too.
Is it normal for the chassis area right above the notebook's keyboard with the MSI logo on it (NOT the screen panel), but the base to get extremely hot--even where it might burn you if you touch it for too long? (And yes, I am running a game--and I expect it to run hot, but not hot enough to injure me while using my notebook.) The notebook is running hot enough to cook my breakfast.

I was about to buy this, but then found out about the GE77 HX, with a i9 3080 Ti. Would be interested to know your thoughts on how this stacks up with the GE 76 - all other things remaining the same? Thanks

I'm torn between this and the smaller GE 67 with the OLED display. Is it worth going with the smaller, better screen or the 17" IPS with more realestate? Would love to hear about the updated "HX" series, as well as the Titan that's just announced.
Does the dragon centre app for this laptop support battery master ? I find this missing in most reviews. The reason I ask is because I can prolong battery life and enjoy gaming by plugging in and playing most of the time.
Awesome review, thanks! I prefer the looks of just about everything else this machine competes with, but as looks are my last priority, this is right at top of my short list. !
Fantastic through review! Thank you Justin. Agreed a thicker but more thermally effective machine is the expectation. So not a big con. No windows hello, thats a con. When 40 series gpus come out, definitely heading MSI's way. Thanks again!
There is one on sale at Costco for $1100 but I think it may not be the same. It is an MSI GE76 Raider laptop but it has 16GB ram and GeForce RTX 3060 with 144HZ 1080p display. Is that comparable?
Nice review. I returned the one I bought. I had an i9/3070ti/FHD. Battery is advertised as 99wh but actual design capacity is 95wh. Mine had some weird flickering issue when browsing with the Xe gpu but stopped when I switched to the dgpu. Contacted MSi and their service was brutal so I packed it up and sent it back. Wasn’t impressed at all. Thermals were great though so there’s that at least.
@@JustinTechTips Nope, they figured it might be a bad panel but it wasn’t doing in with hybrid turned off, so they weren’t sure. Their intel Xe driver is currently outdated so they couldn’t even refer me to that.
Does the MSI GE76 Raider 12UGS Mini-Display Port output 4K at 144mhz onto an external monitor, and also if GSYNC works by using the Mini-Display Port. I have looked everywhere but cannot find a definite answer. Thank you.
Not really a point in commenting on a 2 year old video but there were some very overlooked drawbacks as I've had mine for a full 2 years. First a design flaw in the hinges as they are made of plastic and are very prone to breaking at random points of ware and use. Actually I replaced my hinges once already and am having to replace them again. Second the a Thermals were good in the beginning but my laptop is very prone to overheating, which causes random system fails and reboots through use. Some times it works all day without issue and sometimes I can't get it to boot at all. Lastly the SSD and internals are not the same throughout. My brother and I each bought one with the prospect of easy gaming but when we both had that hinge fail we were suprised to open them and find that a lot of the components (SSD included) were sourced from a number of random brands. Which leads me to the last nail in my laptops coffin, SSD failure(early signs). It may be weird but I didn't notice till now that when I open task manager the disk is running at near 90 percent all the time. I have only ever used this computer for steam gaming and my only games are Dark Souls 3 and Forza Horizon 5. Safe to assume the SSD has shat itself. I might look into other options but MSI is not what it seems.
I am not computer savy i like to know what is better the xps 17 or the ge 76 what one would have a better battery life, thank you I greatly all your help
@@JustinTechTips I just sold my Quest. But looking for PC to handle the next generation of hardware coming out during the next six months. Things like the Varjo Aero spec
Hi Justin, I am really considering purchasing the MSI GE76 Raider Laptop. I came down to the Fan noise. All else is great. I want to know from your video 42 Decibals. Would you be able to have this laptop in a room if you where using it as a business laptop to work from home? I want it to be quiet enough so I don't notice. If you can let me know on that question
Yeah 42 db is not very loud at all. If you are listening for them you’ll barely hear them but it’s honestly only 1db louder than the other gaming laptops I’ve tested. The i9 version bit.ly/MSI_GE76_Raider_12900HK will sound the loudest when performing the most extreme tasks like rendering and intense gaming but it will also be the fastest. The i7 version amzn.to/3x3IWyP will be quieter as it doesn’t get as hot and doesn’t need the fans at max during heavy use
It will throttle.. I mean if the razer can still thermal throttle with the GPU tgp is lower than it should be. Boosting it to 175 watts still won't give you full performance.
Hey Mayline, that depends on which version of this machine you want? Below are the different configurations with their prices. Pricing/Availability of the computers compared in this video: 2022 MSI GE76 Raider with i9 and 3080Ti: : bit.ly/MSI_GE76_Raider_12900HK 2022 MSI GE76 Raider with i9 and 3080Ti (Amazon): amzn.to/3mTn2cW 2022 MSI GE76 Raider with i7 and 3080Ti: (Amazon): amzn.to/3x3IWyP (Best Bang for your Buck)
Hey just bought this two weeks ago and absolutely love it. Far more impressive than I expected but something I saw while I was looking at reviews and wasn’t sure about was the GTG of the 1440 vs the 4K display. One review said the GTG of the 4K was 30ms while the 1440 was 3ms. Do you know if that’s true?
@@indo3052 On my laptop at 1440 yes but barely and its only noticeable to me when I’m specifically looking for it and trying to make the screen tear. Doesn’t really have much impact on me.
@@arniekuma if i wanted a gaming laptop with zero possibility of tearing do i need to get gsync? Of are there other technologies that will prevent tearing?
I was looking at this or the Zephyrus Strix Scar SE; great review, this jumped to top of my list and i'd be glad to use your link. Biggest question: Are there downscaling artifacts for buying the 4K model but instead game playing at QHD (1440p)? (i want QHD, but 150 nits improvement for brightness is very compelling.) For example, does every game show downscaling effects? I currently play on a 1440 external monitor, would downscaling on a QHD monitor also have unique effects? The key trade off is the extra brightness or the ad hoc downscaling degradation. thanks all for insights.
Playing in qhd on a 4k display looks fine to me. Even on a giant 55 inch 4k tv. You notice it on windows when viewing small text but not so much with video and games It’s not as bad as running 1080p on a qhd display. I agree with you on the brightness
Hey Gary, yeah it still looked great to me at a normal viewing distance when downscaling. Daniel is right about smaller text. I'm sure if you put your face right up to the screen you might notice it doesn't look quite as good at 1440p as a monitor that has a 1440p native resolution but no one will get that close. It looks great to me
@@JustinTechTips Thanks, i used your link and a bunch of amex points and got it! Happy with it so far, but I am unable to tweak the keyboard lighting and light bar. Some MSI Center app call Mystic Light is not recognizing the laptop, so my first trouble ticket.
@@indo3052 at 120 hz there is unfortunately. I have a hard time recommending it for gaming without gsync or freesync. 144hz on the blade 17 is better and more playable though. I tackled that on my review under consumertechwarehouse on UA-cam. Hopefully it comes up in the search results. But the x17 is awesome because that screen supports gsync.
I have the 11th Gen model with an i9 and 3080 to replace my desktop since I joined the military. Been an amazing machine, and it can still push frames to my 3440x1440 monitor when I'm at my desk. Sadly I'm under-utilizing the portability but it's there if/when I need it (mission or deployment).
@@indo3052 Yes, but so far my usage has been 99% on an external screen, and I tend to just use VSYNC on the built-in display when I'm away from my desk.
For anyone wondering still. I’ve had it over a year and I love this laptop. I have a 3060 and when I undervollt my pc max graphics on fortnite will be 65 degrees Celsius and 120+ frames. The batter is starting to wear and I can’t find anywhere to replace it so a little worrying

Yeah I love that lightbar
What happens if you connect two monitors to it?
Great freakin review. I love my ge76 i7 3080 ti but now a tiny regret i didnt get the i9 but who knew that it would actually be able to use so much of the i9 processor when none of the others did.
Thanks Daniel! Yeah I was really impressed with this machine's ability to keep that hot 12th Gen i9 in check compared to the competition
Fantastic review. Thank you. I just purchased this laptop because of your review. It's arriving after Christmas. One question I have is how can I turn the glowing light strip off?
Any feedback please
I agree with you COMPMETELY. Thinness in a gaming laptop DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. I mean if they have a cooling system that can handle the heat at that thinness, sure, but many companies limit the TGP to just make the laptop thin and that get's on my nerves too.
sadly every brands nowadays obsess with thin and light
Yeah I almost never hear people complain about laptops being too thick. If it aint broke don't fix it! Keep Laptops powerful! Not thin and hot

So you hook in three monitors to this laptop?
Great review dude ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you Shakibul!
I saw this laptop at Costco for 1599.99 should i cop?
Hi question is this laptop? Good for photo editing with Lightroom? .
I know some models you cannot customize the keyboard. So can you customize the keyboard with the ge76?
Sweet review Justin🤌👌

Hi there, I am looking for a laptop for architecture. Are the gaming ones good? And do you suggest any good gaming laptop , but also affordable? Any sites where I can purchase it? Used or not.
Hey Wendy, yes these are excellent for architecture. I’m not sure about finding it used since it’s so new but below are two places you can purchase it new.

Isn't there a second SSD slot? Im trading my steam deck for the i9 version, but i know nothing about PC gaming, just saw a different video where there was an empty SSD slot
lower temps due to msi liquid pasting?
Nice video! I will like to know; which is better/powerful in the 12UHS and the 12UGS?
Also, how better or powerful is the RTX 3080 to the 3070?
I was about to buy this, but then found out about the GE77 HX, with a i9 3080 Ti. Would be interested to know your thoughts on how this stacks up with the GE 76 - all other things remaining the same? Thanks
thanks a lot for the review, dude! how do you think this laptop stand against legion 7?
what would you say the best brand for getting gaming laptops would be and the best for a desktop pc

Hi. Nice review. How the 2k scale on the 4K version!?
How does this compare to the hp omen 17? Is it about the same?
Where exactly can I find the i9 version of this laptop on the market?
Thanks for this. It is gonna help me so much in choosing a laptop for me now.
Don't buy MSI products. You're left all alone when you get a defective product with issues. The company don't stand by their products. I'm stuck with a MSI GE76 top of the line model I bought two months ago from MSI India. Thermal throttles to a 100C and beyond under load and cuts down on performance. The intense battery drain caused a battery wear that is at 6 percent and it is irreversible. MSI India won't do RMA. MSI Taiwan doesn't respond to me. What a great way to bag $5660USD from customers by cheating and selling a defective laptop. I'm moving to consumer court.
No problem tarun krishna! Glad I could help!
Any chance you’ll be doing a Raider GE77 HX review? I just purchased one and I’m interested in your thoughts on the changes and improvements.
I'm torn between this and the smaller GE 67 with the OLED display. Is it worth going with the smaller, better screen or the 17" IPS with more realestate? Would love to hear about the updated "HX" series, as well as the Titan that's just announced.
Went with the ge67 oled
Thanks for your great review, would you recommend a desktop gaming PC over a laptop gaming PC I do a lot of flightsimming on MSFS2020? Thank you
Is it useful to charge the device via a Type C charger? Please reply
what the difference of ge76 with ge66 is it only size or is there more
Fantastic through review! Thank you Justin. Agreed a thicker but more thermally effective machine is the expectation. So not a big con. No windows hello, thats a con. When 40 series gpus come out, definitely heading MSI's way. Thanks again!
Where is the Alienware M17 R5 review ?

Hey Justin - I'm curious how you aquire your tech, and also what camera you use for shooting! Thanks
There is one on sale at Costco for $1100 but I think it may not be the same. It is an MSI GE76 Raider laptop but it has 16GB ram and GeForce RTX 3060 with 144HZ 1080p display. Is that comparable?
When can we expect to see the Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 7?
So ima get the Intel i9 rtx 3060 that’ll still be good right??
Satisfactory explanation... New sub.. 🔥
Glad you enjoyed the video God Dream! Welcome to the channel!
Thanks for the review. How will this go up against something like the Thinkpad extreme coming out ?
Nice review. I returned the one I bought. I had an i9/3070ti/FHD. Battery is advertised as 99wh but actual design capacity is 95wh. Mine had some weird flickering issue when browsing with the Xe gpu but stopped when I switched to the dgpu. Contacted MSi and their service was brutal so I packed it up and sent it back. Wasn’t impressed at all. Thermals were great though so there’s that at least.
Oh wow that sounds pretty annoying. So MSI customer service had no idea what was causing that?
@@JustinTechTips Nope, they figured it might be a bad panel but it wasn’t doing in with hybrid turned off, so they weren’t sure. Their intel Xe driver is currently outdated so they couldn’t even refer me to that.
Refurbished?

isnt there possibility of tearing with no gsync?….
Does the MSI GE76 Raider 12UGS Mini-Display Port output 4K at 144mhz onto an external monitor, and also if GSYNC works by using the Mini-Display Port. I have looked everywhere but cannot find a definite answer. Thank you.

Comprehensive and detailed indepth review on MSI ge76.
Thanks howard!
I just got this pc. Already love it. And this video made me not regret it
These thorough reviews is what will help me decide on between a few options this year.
So this laptop can run eGPU with Thunderbold Gen 3??
With my cheaper MSI laptop I can turn the fan speeds low enough that they don't turn on during web browsing etc. Is that possible with the Raider too?
Already de-throned by the HX variants :)) GE77 GE67 and GP76 GP66 HX
here with another question, is a 6gb rtx 2060 better than a 4gb rtx 3050 laptop? looking to get one

@JustIN Tech Tips what is your opinion about keyboard bound power on button ..
What is the fasting ram clock speed it's capable of? The stock is 4800. Can it be upgraded to 5600?
Gsync , HDR ?
Can you do a review on the new MSI STEALTH GS77 17.3” with an i9 & a 3080ti GPU. 🙏
Why ? It's all the same specs with 17.3"
Yo i like how you get straight to the point on your videos, thats cool
Razer released a bios update for the blade 17 that increases GPU TGP to 175w. Can we get some new numbers before and after?
It will throttle..
I mean if the razer can still thermal throttle with the GPU tgp is lower than it should be.
Boosting it to 175 watts still won't give you full performance.
Justin give us a review of the gs66 3080ti if possible
what is the price

Hey just bought this two weeks ago and absolutely love it. Far more impressive than I expected but something I saw while I was looking at reviews and wasn’t sure about was the GTG of the 1440 vs the 4K display. One review said the GTG of the 4K was 30ms while the 1440 was 3ms. Do you know if that’s true?
Isnt there tearing with no gsync?

Hi there, the 1 x Type-C USB 3.2 gen 2 w/ DP on this laptop is it a x1 or x2 controller? (Hence X1 is 10Gbp/s and X2 is 20Gbp/s).
Trying to get the 3080ti version since its launch and its always out of stock from all stores in Canada
You notice it on windows when viewing small text but not so much with video and games
It’s not as bad as running 1080p on a qhd display.
@@danielzb isnt there possibility of tearing with no gsync?,,,
@@indo3052 at 120 hz there is unfortunately.
Sadly I'm under-utilizing the portability but it's there if/when I need it (mission or deployment).

isnt there possibility of tearing with no gsync?……/
@@indo3052 Yes, but so far my usage has been 99% on an external screen, and I tend to just use VSYNC on the built-in display when I'm away from my desk.
@@AcidicThought i was told if u got 240hz or more and ur fps never exceeds that, u wont experience tearing. True?
@@indo3052 Not sure, but I could imagine it still happens, but since frames are popping up so fast you wouldn't be able to notice it.
