The gen4 slot is the one with the ssd already installed in the video. He put his p5 gen4 ssd in the gen3 slot so it makes no difference. Get a 980 pro and clone windows to it with their data migration tool.
@@Steven64 I was finally able to get that cover off...will need a tool to get under the edges and pop off the cover...yeah, I got DDR5 ram in mine also, 4800 if I recall.
Hi just fitted the same ssd to my ge66 raider. Saw another video on UA-cam saying to install a thermal pad for the ssd, is this required? Also should you not put a pin in the hole to disconnect the battery before working at it?
So I heard you say something about there are certain parts that your are allowed to upgrade without voiding the factory warranty. Would upgrading the ram to 64gb using a good quality ram kit void the factory warranty? I always thought that as soon as you break that factory seal or pull the void sticker off, that immediately voids the warranty. Thanks.
But, how to figure out, wich M.2 to buy? Gen4 or Gen3x4? MSI specs page, satates 1 Gen4 and 1 Gen3....BUT... they do not explain wich is the one already installed and I canot find in System info, where the available slot is or wich is the Gen already installed, please help!
My laptop by here in 7 days but iam sure maybe adia64 or something along those lines cpuid might list what it is in the memory tab of those programs and if it doesnt state it, beside looking at the speeds and such listed for those drives in the programs adai has benchmarks for everything, that would tell u with the data if ur getting gen3 or gen 4 speeds. Hope this helps
The original (standard) RAM is 16GB. Can we add a 32GB RAM bar (e.g., the Crucial one mentioned in the video) to the laptop without removing the original one? I don't konw whether it will cause a serious compatibility problem.
Thank you for the not only quick, but very informative video. Popping in my M.2 now
Thanks for the tip about using the rear vents to get the back cover off. That made it a LOT easier to get off.
The back is really not coming off that easily. You must have loosened it before filming.
It differs I'm assuming. I've had to take mine off more than a few times, so it pops off quite easily. Btw love the vids :)
Another way I take the cover off is right at the corners towards the front light bar
Only a little prying

Thanks for this video. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for the concise video!
I see youre not adding a new thermal pad, why ?
Should i remove the battery or its fine to keep it?
Saw on another video that there's a hole in the back to insert a pin that disconnects the battery.
Great video. Added an NVME and it took me maybe 10 minutes. Thanks!
I have a problem with the ram. My laptop has a hard cover over it. How do I open it?
yeah, I have been trying to figure that out...I got mine from Costco...
@@jlhyang I bought it at Costco too! I'm gonna check Best Buy to see if they can upgrate the ram for me.
@@jlhyang I think I have the DDR5 version.
The box the laptop came in says DDR4.
BUT! Windows, CPUZ and the BIOS says DDR5. I don't get it.

@@jlhyang Thanks for tip! :) Now all I need is the tool itself along with the RAM kit. Saving me $60 for Geek Squad.
What's US SSD does like you said in minute 3:01? Thanks

.
As long as you turn the laptop off before you start working on it, there's no need to remove the battery.
Thermal pads are highly recommended to ensure the longevity of your SSD
2:55 nvme or m.2?
m.2 is the form factor, nvme is a communication standard that goes on the pcie lanes.
Great video
Thank you so much!!! I want to add an ssd
The factory 1rx8 8gb configuration is compatible with a 16gb 2rx8
Why did you not disconnect the battery?

Is there any way to replace the battery?
@@TheObtuseGooseTV I bought my GE76 Raider a year ago, thx for the reply.

I want to upgrade my sdd for this laptop but i have concers for depth of sdd, what is the maximum value of it? there are 2 mm and 4 mm variants
do you need to unplug the battery during the upgrade?
I would recommend that.

Can I put a 970 evo plus samsung m.2 in this laptop? The dimensions of the SSD are 3.16" x 0.87" x 0.09"
No only 2280 size
Wonderful video.
