According to the canon novel, this version of Bruce did go around the world learning different subjects and the martial art forms of the countries he was in. Alfred was responsible for teaching him self-defence as a kid, but he did later travel around the world after graduating. It also explains why his Spanish isn't good despite him being a linguistic as he never went to Spain during his travels.
"He hasn't found his way of being Bruce Wayne yet" Exactly, he's still too fresh, he's too deep in his grief and trauma, he's not ready to be Bruce Wayne yet. I liked the ratio of Batman to Bruce Wayne in this one, and I look forward to that leveling out more as they continue this arc of films.
@@owenyoung9915 obviously. That's the point. He doesn't have another personality. He's a traumatized man whose only joy is beating up criminals on the street lol. The whole idea is presenting a younger unexperienced batman who still hasn't learned to be anything other than a masked vigilante.
The ending with the lady grabbing his arm was really moving. He went from a terror to a comfort. Batman is rarely portrayed as being a source of comfort, and I really liked it.
I can't express how happy I was when, after the shooter called himself vengeance and the center flooded, I realized this was all about Batman realizing he had to be more than Vengeance and fear, that its about helping the innocent and not just punishing the wicked.
@@balshb4064 In that regard, there's little difference between Supes and Bats. That's why they're able to be friends, they are 100% on the same wavelenght in some ideas. The core difference is Batman acts in order to "fix", he pulls out the bad roots so that Gotham can be healed. Superman acts to inspire others to be better on their own. Then again, most superheroes are about "helping the innocent", if that was not a shared ideal they wouldn't be able to come together occasionally
@@wolfking4556 Both Superman and Batman inspires Hope in their own ways. Superman is the beacon of Hope and represents what humanity should strive towards, while Batman represents man struggling out of the darkness and fight their way towards the light (Superman) at the distance. The fact that Superman is Batman's favorite superhero is what makes them one of the greatest iconic duo.
They're not avoiding Bruce Wayne because Robert Pattinson is bad at being Bruce, it's because his character is not there yet, he hasn't discovered the need for there to be a Bruce, that's why we hardly have Bruce in this one. I'm sure in the next one, there'll start to be somewhat of a balance between the two personas
I wish more people understood this. He's literally only been fighting crime for 2 years at this point. Why people are expecting him to instantly become the Bruce we know today is beyond me.
I roll my eyes every time someone criticizes his Bruce Wayne, when clearly this is an undeveloped Batman. He doesn’t have batterangs, this is likely his first time using the flight suit, the Batmobile is still just a car, he hasn’t met any real supervillains (Riddler is probably the first) and he doesn’t even call himself Batman yet. He’s vengeance.
@@Darthvader68778 but he wasn't even the Joker yet at that point I bet. Probably following the Red Hood/Mask story where he just a regular comedian, went on a heist, messed up, fled and fell into a chemical plant then went insane, got caught by Batman. Year 1 is mostly about Bruce's rampage on common thugs where the villains we all know are still in the background, where the most prominent ones are the mobs like Carmine Falcone and the setup for Court of Owls but that comes later on. If Matt Reeves is following that timeline, then it's safe to say that the next one could be Mr. Freeze/Scarecrow/Two Face/Bane where we deep dive into the Arkham Asylum as well to meet Hugo Strange. This is the period where Joker is Joker and Riddler is Riddler and they sort of become rivals to see which one can make Batman cross that line. Penguin of course is at the top at this point then maybe they would introduce us to Madhatter, Victor Zsasz, Black Mask, Calendar Man, Clayface, Solomon Grundy, Tweedledum & Tweedledee, Firefly, etc. After that could be the rise of Gotham City Sirens; Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Then Deathstroke x Deadshot saga, Amanda Waller and her Suicide Squad. Fuck, I count more than 5 movies if they seriously want this one to be whole lol.
@@JoshJr98 The "Joker Goon" he beats up at the beginning didn't have hair. The "Riddler Goon" had hair. Edit: This was a reply to someone asking if the guy Batman beats up at the beginning and says "I'm Vengeance" to was the same guy at the end who says "I'm Vengeance" as well. He deleted his comment cause he was embarrassed for not noticing hair... I guess.
I’m glad writers remember batman isn’t just a horror to the criminals, he’s a real fucking hero, a really good dude who wants to do his best to protect Gotham so kids on the street won’t have to suffer what he went through
The thing most reactors are missing at the end is that most "normal" people (not the criminals in other words) were afraid of Batman. When that goon said "I am vengeance," Batman knew that fear could not be the ONLY thing he operated on. That's why people were hesitant to take his hand during the flood scene... Most people were AFRAID of him.
True, even in the beginning when he saved that guy from the gang, he himself asks batman to not hurt him because he's not viewed as a hero at that point. He's not sure if Batman is going to beat him up next
the asian dude he saved from the gang on the subway begged batman not to hurt him as well...which i like ...its true to his character at this point in his career
Exactly he realized that fear and vengeance aren't the only ways he should portray himself as any longer. He now knows he can show fear to the criminals of the city but also show Gotham and its citizens hes not just a vigilante but its city protector and hero.
@@NoKappWithJamesKapp Part of why I loved that the mayor’s kid was the first to take Bruce’s hand in the water. Wherher or not they kid knows Bruce is Batman, Batman doesn’t scare him. Kid’s are almost always shown to understand that they have no reason to fear him. That Batman wouldn’t do anything but help them.
His car chase -- he initiated it in the dark, in the rain, on a busy freeway -- burned a few motorists alive and he did not raise a finger to help them. The screams of the burning collateral damage at his back would have added a bit more to the Penguin's terror. So, so not a hero.
That opening monologue where Bruce talks about the signal and how criminals fear the unknown, was my favorite part of the entire movie. The cinematography, music, voice over, acting, and the overall atmosphere for Batman, was flawlessly done in that scene.
and it's such a good idea that I haven't seen before. The criminals are always portrayed as afraid of the Batman but this makes every shadow a device of fear.
Bro right!!! Shit had me kinda worried lowkey. The way they had all the criminals staring into the shadows back stepping was crazy. You could really feel the fear 😂😂
I'll admit, I was not a fan of the narration at first. I thought it was unnecessary alongside the already phenomenal visual exposition. But when the logs came on screen, it immediately made sense.
Robert Pattinson has become my definitive Batman after this. His face and specifically his eyes convey so many different emotions, it’s incredible. One of the smartest aesthetic choices they made was making the black eye make up canon. Just like Eric said, Paul Dano as Riddler is just perfect casting. When he was announced I immediately knew he would kill it. Same for basically all the other actors but those two performances particularly stood out to me. And the Batmobile scene is the best Batmobile scene of all time for me. I saw it in theaters three times and every time that scene started my body was riddled with chills throughout the entire sequence.
100% agree. I didn't know who the Riddler was but the second I saw him I thought "this was a bullied kid who is now a school shooter" I would completely buy a guy that looks like that becoming the Riddler
A guy who has been introverted and isolated since the death of his parents would not be a playboy who is good at socialising. That’s a facade that gets built up over time, and I like that. I’m hoping that he’ll become more like that in the sequel and the film after that (I’m assuming it’ll be a trilogy).
@@kingrobert7246 I think it’s fairly apparent when you watch the film. Somebody who has been sheltered and isolated since childhood and hasn’t been out much will typically not be good at socialising.
The scene after Bruce finds out that he is the Riddlers next target is honestly one of my favorites. The anxiety that having the phone ringing while Alfred opens the package meant for Bruce and then the build up to the twist that the bomb already went off was great in my opinion.
I like how Bruce being absent affect the entire story... I mean his absence literally allowed the gangs and Falcone to swarm over his father's money causing the 20yrs worth of corruption in the city. I might be overanalyzing but at the end of the movie I think he realized that Batman needs Bruce Wayne too
@@ricardomiles2957 The thing is, he does in the comics. He does with his wealth and influence exactly what some people criticize him for not doing. But, it still doesn't change that crime will still happen.
I feel like it’s the main idea of the film. He saw his Bruce persona as unnecessary and even a liability instead of a strength. By the end of the movie he realizes that the world needs Bruce Wayne as much as it needs Batman.
It's a yin-yang thing. Being only Batman was tackled in this movie and being only Bruce Wayne is like every genuine good billionare that can't help properly because of corruption and greed of the system. Bruce Wayne and Batman must be present in Gotham so your analysis is in tge Goldilocks spot.
This is the first Batman film where I felt The Batmobile was truly terrifying. I got "Ronin" vibes from that chase scene. BTW Blind Wave... you need to react to Ronin.
It felt long, but in a good way. i thought yhe penguin scene was the last act. But when I checked I was asking myself how would they make it any better as all the dots seemed like it connected somehow. And I'll say im not disappointed the ending was such awe moment. Being afraid to becoming a Hope.
For me it was the look Batman gave to the child in the beginning that was all the backstory I needed. I loved how they blended elements of Year 2, the long Halloween, and at the end No Man’s Land. Plus I liked this movie felt gritty but wasn’t stupid gritty.
Exactly. We didnt need another 15 minutes of a batman movie watching Thomas and Martha Wayne died AGAIN. We see the impact of it in Bruces long stare and jumping to save him in the church and also in Alfreds reaction to Bruce.
45:15 Ave Maria was a song commonly sung at funerals. The piece is in a major key. Riddler's theme is the ave maria tune in a minor key. Very clever by Giacchino
A batman learning that there are other parts, sometimes more important, parts of being a hero, learning to be a hero instead of just a vigilante, is fantastic!
This is made evident when he tries to gain entry to the Iceberg Lounge as Batman and he had to fight his way in, but when he showed up as Bruce Wayne they just let him in. This made him realize there are elite circles within Gotham where Bruce Wayne is more powerful than Batman.
A Batman movie finally fully capitalizing on detective noir. Feels like it should’ve been done a long time ago. Also Pattinson is such an inspired casting, Reeves had a clear vision and he nailed every aspect of this character
Sadly, even with the detectjve stuff, by the end he didnt solve the case, The Riddler outsmart him. He only saved that people with the power of violence alone.
I've seen facebook pages posting memes on this movie along with stupid remarks by randoms, I still dont understand where the hate on this movie is coming from. Simply cause hating on DC is such a trend....with all the controversial stuff around other actors and the studio currently.
Robert Pattinson can definitely play the playboy persona if they wanted him to. He has the acting ranges and abilities to do so. I know Eric, Calvin and Aaron reacted to Tenet a year before this. So seeing Pattinson with the clean look and “playboy-esque” personality in Tenet is pretty much a hint of what we’re gonna get in the sequels since Matt Reeves wanted to develop/grow these characters.
Watched it lastnight. I absolutely love this movie. The music, the action, the violence, the cast, i loved everything. His loud, heavy footsteps while walking towards the face painted gang give me goosebumps. The Batmobile driving thru the fire gave me Christine vibes. I hope there is a sequel.
There's a couple things I don't like about the movie. 1 it's too long 2 Carmine being the rat was predictable 3 Carmine lying to Bruce predictable 4 I wish Bruces parents were corrupt in the end 5 All those people in the car chase died for Bruce to go after a wrong hunch 6 All the action was in the trailer 7 It's so convenient the cop was there in he end also to have an Uncle who's a carpet cleaner and to talk about it right then. This isn't really a negative but people hyped up how this movie could be R which I think is preposterous preposterous.
I got the feeling that in this movie, Bruce Wayne is the alter ego of Batman and not the other way around. Even when he's out in public, Bruce gives off Batman vibes. Robert Pattinson freaking nailed this role.
There's a comic where Bruce Wayne gets accused as a murderer and instead of proving his innocence, his first plan is to just forget about the Bruce Wayne persona and just be Batman for the rest of his life.
I love how everyone acknowlodges that batman is an absolute weirdo like they know he can fuck them up, they are afraid of him but also everyone reacts with "why the hell is there a guy in a furry leather suit in the crime scene/police station/penguins place..." and I fucking love it
I think in this world the superhero stuff is a bit new. It seems that batman is active for 2 years so that means there probably hasn't been any superhero in Gotham or the rest of the world before. Except maybe ww2 superheroes if you know what i mean but in present time its still weird to see a guy with a cape and mask
something that bothered me though is batman being too comfortable and all around all the police. No amount of armor will protect you from too many guys and weapons in a closed space. Also he seemed too invincible. That hostage explosion even though it exploded in his face did nothing to him. All the shotguns at close range never did any hurt to him. Maybe the bullet can't penetrate but sure as hell it feels like it does. Also falling from the sky while hitting a bridge. Sorry but he would be unconscious with a lot of concussions

Watching this opening night in iMAX was incredible. The batmobile scene had the whole theater shaking. He doesnt see what having the Bruce persona does in more ways than one. All he cares about is being Batman etc. Next movie u will see more of Bruce. All the main cast were incredible. To me this is the best Batman movie. As an overall movie maybe it doesnt exceed TDK (bcuz that feels like a Joker movie more so than Bats). The tone aura score felt so incredible & Batman.
Man from the train station: "Please don't hurt me." Woman from the rooftop: "Please don't let go." Went from feared vigilante to heroic symbol. That's character development.
I love that Batman has the capability to silence his footsteps, but he announces himself with his footsteps and appears broodingly. That following the opening monologue gave me chills. One of the best theater experiences I've had. Robert really has aced the Batman role.
_"If you can't imagine your version of Batman comforting a child, then it's a bad version of Batman."_ This is my new favourite Batman film, because it's how I've seen Bruce for a while now. He should be more than anger and violence and "How much prep time?" He should make errors. He should be socially awkward and look one clumsy mistake away from a small nervous breakdown. He should have more than one or no emotions. He should be kind, and be grateful, and be inspirational, and maybe even crack a smile if he's in the mood. The images of Bruce wordlessly bonding with a newly orphaned boy, pushing said boy out of the path of a car, helping people out of wreckage, guiding the panicked to safety, carrying a injured civilian to a stretcher, and (above all) letting his hand be held because he recognises that someone needs to hold it a little longer as they're taken away... It makes me cry, and it makes me so grateful. Batman's been around a long time, so he's viable to many interpretations, and indeed there have been. If you like another Batman more, power to you. My first Batman was Val Kilmer, and he was probably the most dull of them all. But with what Batman has become in the eyes of many fans - an angry supergenius with a contingency for everything - it was so surprising and so refreshing to see one who was human. So many Dark Knights focus on the "Dark" instead of the "Knight", and Battinson has touched my heart so much more than any other film Batman. I'd have seen this film anyway, because it's a Batman film, but I thought it was gonna be another grim, dark, angry Batman interpretation in the vein of Batfleck. Again, if you like Batfleck then that's fine, but I didn't want the character to become increasingly violent and deranged. When I saw Bruce having to wear sunglasses in the day and listening to Nirvana, I saw a manchild in the best way; someone genuinely damaged by his trauma and not living healthily because of it. When I saw Batman question his parents' actions and lashing out at Alfred, I saw a man who wasn't sure of himself but was sure he wanted to be in the right. When I saw Batman comfort civilians and recognise he needed to change, I saw the best of what the character can be. As the stretcher lifted, I felt something from going to the cinema that I haven't felt since the opening credits of _The Force Awakens,_ the portals opening in _Avengers: Endgame,_ or the three Spider-Men teaming up in _Spider-Man: No Way Home..._ A sense of gratitude that I happened to be born at the right time to see what I was seeing on the big screen. Thank you, Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson, and everyone else involved in bringing us this film, this image, this experience.
I felt the same way. Batman is a manifestation of dark and hope, my favourite adaptation of batman is Robert Pattinson. When Catwoman said to Batman, “ u don’t rlly care about me huh”, I immediately thought a scene in Batman beyond return of the joker where Barbara said to Terry, “ Bruce only cared about the mission”. It was then I felt that Robert’s Batman can be the same Batman on the cartoon shows/ movies. This is my Batman. Bruce’s rlly power is his willpower not his intelligence or skills but willpower. The third act demonstrated this soo well. Matt reeves understands that and the character. My fav version of Batman is always the young type anyways, Like in batman year one, long Halloween and The batman 2004. This is the batman movie I’ve always wanted
Guessing you're very young because there's been so many more movie moments better than the 3 spidermen and endgame 😂😂😂. Hell, lord of the rings alone has about 10 of those moments, at least, all better than your marvel moments. Hopefully you just didn't get a chance to see Lord of the rings in theaters lol.
@@Billyregin I referenced those specifically because of the nerd media culmination they embody. As for my age, I was born in 2000, so yeah, no way I was catching _Lord of the Rings._
I mean the whole point of Bale's Batman was that he didn't want to be Batman, he wanted to create a world where Batman wasn't needed. He even had so much faith in the people of Gotham he never thought for one second they would blow up the other boat in The Dark Knight.
I feel like you guys missed a lot of the experience by not seeing this film in the cinema. Watching this in the dark in IMAX and with the whole cinema vibrating with the soundtrack and soundeffects, it adds so much.
@@evaaudelo986 Oh man when he lit that up it sounded like a jet engine would, fucking LOUD. If you had a jet engine built into a car the noise would SHOCK you, just look at Colin Furze's pulse jet
I watched it for the first time today and it was on one of those little screens on the back of airline seats. I was on a flight from Seattle to Minneapolis. lol. Still a good movie though.
While I agree 100% that a cinema is always the best presentation platform for a movie - and that the sound design in The Batman should have gotten a credit as supporting cast - any movie still has to stand alone on its story, acting and direction, free of the format novelties that a theater can offer, or the movie as an "event". Having said that, it's hard not to be a little resentful of the widescreen crop on the home version of "Dune" after having seen it in full Imax.
He isn’t Bruce Wayne because he literally hasn’t become Bruce Wayne yet. I don’t know how that’s not easy to understand. He hasn’t separated Bruce and the Batman.
yeah they're not just gonna rush and develop his character in one movie like the previous ones did they're gonna take their time with this one and let him flesh out slowly
The best thing that I caught on a second viewing, that I somehow missed on the first, was that at the beginning, the guy he saves is scared of him, asking him not to also hurt him. But, at the end of the film, you see the lady touching Batmans arm, showing that, he has evolved from someone who is only vengeance, to someone who is to be looked up to. Obviously thats part of the dialogue, and his movement from one spectrum to the other, but I loved the overt symbols of that.
The Batman gave us the best introduction to the Batmobile in cinema ever. Everything about that scene was epic. Notice the sound completely dies in that scene? No music at all and then.... Engine starts... masterpiece
I watched this in 4D with mist and wind whenever we were outdoors in a gotham night... Best movie theatre experience I've ever had... And the sound of the batmobile shook my bones
Haha half the questions Aaron asks would be answered if he stopped talking so much over the dialogue. He’s had too many Monster Energy drinks! Eric must stop him! 😂
I love Aaron, but sometimes especially with long and slower paced films he can get very annoying talking all the time. Like sometimes there are scenes you just have to let sink in and shut up to feel it. I guess it‘s a reaction with four people tho so whatever. Would prefer them have the movie theatre experience and make a long discussion/review afterwards with stuff like Dune, the Batman etc.
Exactly. 😅 This has always been a problem with Aaron in particular that's manifested itself in a lot of other occasions and people always pointed it out but it just never seems to go away. Last time I was this irked was their "Dune" reaction where he just goes on and on to the point that it was frustrating to watch.

Thursday, October 31st. The city streets are crowded for the holiday. Even with the rain. Hidden in the chaos is the element, waiting to strike like snakes. And I'm there too. Watching. 2 years of nights have turned me into a nocturnal animal. I must choose my targets carefully. It's a big city. I can't be everywhere. But they don't know where I am. We have a signal now, for when I'm needed. When that light hits the sky, it's not just a call- it's a warning. To them. Fear is a tool. They think I'm hiding in the shadows. But I AM the shadows. I wish I could say I'm making a difference, but I don't know. Murder, robberies, assault- 2 years later, they're all up. And now this. This city's eating itself. Maybe it can't be saved, but i have to try. PUSH MYSELF. These nights all roll together in a rush, Behind the mask. Sometimes in the morning i have to force myself to remember everything that happened.
One of my favorite scenes was when Batman was heading back to stop Alfred from opening the package. The crew of Blind Wave said that they didn't hear his voice of Bruce thought-out the movie. I have to disagree. In that scene, I felt like Bruce truly came out in that scene. His voice fully changed from brooding and gritty to concerned and scared. He went back to brooding after he realized that Alfred was safe. But at that moment Bruce fully emerged from behind that cowl. At 1:32:50 in the movie.

Loved the gothic style of the movie. Also the fact that it was long and took its time. Nothing felt unnecessary or lengthy. Everything had its weight and importance.
At 24:05 is one of the coolest sequences I’ve ever seen, the sound and vibrations alone were magical. It was awesome experiencing that for the first time.
I’m sure somebody else in the comments has mentioned it but the Joker was played by Barry Keoghan, who you saw in Eternals as Druig (the mind controller). Drastically different characters and I can’t wait to see where it goes !
Reeves did say it’s unlikely that joker is in the next film, and that his main purpose in this film was to establish Batman has already faced some of his rogues gallery in the first few years aswell as a symbolism that after beating the riddler there are more villains coming and that it gives you the sense that Batman’s crusade of vengeance has amounted to nothing, they’ll always come back. This ties perfectly into his realisation that he must be something different a symbol of hope for people to believe in, because he can’t stop all these villains if the city isn’t there to help and KEEP them locked up afterwards, he needs assistance to rid the city’s corruption, which honestly ties perfectly into harvey dent and the court of owls if they continue the corruption story Line
@@benschultz1784 it is indeed The Man Who Laughs (good call) But more like he experimented with trying to get rid of his condition and it made him worse.
I love the complaints like, “He didn’t do all the detective work” and “He wasn’t the best at this”. YEAR TWO, YEAR FUCKING TWO. You’re doing the super man thing of expecting a new younger character to be exactly like the 30 years of Batmen you’ve seen. All those points are instantly refuted by the fact that this is year two Batman and it’s intentional. Ps: I hope once they’ve sat on the movie for awhile they put it together and maybe see what the movie was trying to tell you.
Right. I love that he is Watching Gordon and others to see what they do and learn from them. Year 2 Batman works. And he was clever with Riddles, so it did show him figuring somethings out.
Aren't the complaints more along the lines of that he solves the cases through having these "eureka" moments from other people? Some people might've thought that was lame or corny. I thought it was fine personally.
Batman Begins started negative years. Batman Arkham Origins was Year Two and he was not only the world's greatest detective but he could take down Lady Shiva and Deathstroke hand to hand. Maybe don't just invalidate all criticism with a thought terminating phrase like "year two" and hear people out when they say he wasn't their preferred interpretation? Not every criticism is a personal attack.
I like to think Falcone in his final moments realized it was Bruce Wayne underneath the mask. Finding himself in an all too familiar situation, the night he was operated on; just been shot, looking up at a scared/shocked Bruce Wayne staring right back.
I love the darker take on this Batman. Some people can't seem to comprehend darker themes. This Batman/Bruce is still deeply scarred which is why this may be my favorite adaptation of Batman.
Loved your guys’ reaction. I do disagree with your criticism of Batman’s detective skills. The way he combs over the Mitchell crime scene in the beginning is fantastic, from his knowledge of when the thumb was cut to his spotting of the blood where the murder weapon laid, he was very intuitive. He also knew where to find the clues, at the bottom of the rat maze and the top of cage near the end. Sure Alfred may have helped with the cipher early on but it was Bruce that figured out how to decipher it to find “drive”. He does make mistakes (which I like) by trusting Alfred’s rata alada translation and not knowing what the carpet tucker was. But why would Bruce Wayne know what that tool’s for lol? All in all, I loved his detective Batman.
The only reason he didn't get the last clue because he believed that it was all about him (Bruce Wayne) he thought he was the end goal, didn't see the big picture. Which is completely understandable
Alfred translated it right, it's el rata alada ON PURPOSE because of the URL thing. Bruce translated it as the winged rat and he was right. No mistake there.
While some points you made I agree with, I do have problems with this Batman as a detective/hero.. Because he was always too late at stopping Riddler. Riddler won in my eyes at the end of the film for the most part, unfortunately. He played a good Batman and I loved the movie.. he just wasn’t a “worlds best detective”
I'll be honest, you guys missed out a lot by not seeing this in theaters. I appreciate getting this reaction but part of me wishes you guys got to experience it on a big screen, in a dark room, with a big sound system.
The thing I like about Batman (in general) is that he fails, and then improves. So to see this Batman making mistakes (i.e: crashing into the bridge) I can only conclude that he'll be working to iron those out. Like, a Batman who doesn't fail/make mistakes is a Batman who doesn't need to prepare. But as we all know, Batman likes to prepare. And the usual reasons why he prepares is either because of a mistake, or because he thought about the possibility beforehand. Plus, this is year 2. Not the super paranoid, insanely preparedness of a veteran Batman who has _seen some shit._
Shout out to Jeffrey Wright for being the best Jim Gordon we've had yet. He leans into the pulp detective side of the character and is a great pair up with Batman.
Thank you guys for waiting to react to this for us! But I feel like this one was definitely worth seeing at the Movies... Just for the sound alone 👌 Chefs kiss...
I love this movie so much, and I love it all the more for showing Bruce helping people at the end. I think that most creators and readers get so caught up in how cool Batman is and how good his enemies are, that they forget an important part. He cares about people and he will always offer a hand before trying to cut it off. He's not Superman's opposite, he's Superman's best friend.
Batmans greatest strengths are his determination and his compassion. I'm so happy that he rounds it out by the end. I think that's what synder missed about the character.
Spoilos: I think the riddler always wanted vengeance on the city, everything before was him explaining why everyone deserves to die. Not just exposing the corruption and the perpetrators, but blaming everyone else in the city for not doing anything about it.
Well if you watched snyder's justice league then you would know batman was way more hopeful and was more compassionate there. In BvS he lost a lot so he was vengeful just like how robert's batman was in this movie.
@@johnsummit101 bvs could have been great. Imagine if batman went after superman just to show him he isn't invincible and can be held to account. Not to kill, but to humble. Maybe even to show supermans followers that he isn't a god. One of batmans main mo's is to cause fear in criminals. Bruce was in the movie twice. When he went to see Falcone, and when he went to see Alfred in the hospital. You can tell because Bruce Wayne can barely look other people in the eye. The funeral was Batman disguised as Bruce.
The car chase sequence between Batman and the Penguin is one of the best sequences I have ever watched. With the amazing score from Michael Giacchino also playing in the background, it’s absolutely riveting and entertaining to watch.
My buddy HATED the fact Batman's boots were so loud. I'm like: "They're only loud when he's trying to scare people, he appears/sneaks away silently whenever he wants...!"

Honestly same. I thought they’d love the movie, especially Eric. It’s so strange that it didn’t hit as hard for them but they kept mentioning older Batman films and shows and that’s where they lost me. Why compare them all? Why not take this movie in on its own merits? They really lose me when they compared it to the older Batman films. Those are nostalgic but objectively they are over the top and ridiculous. This is a modern day Batman with heart and limits in his early years.

This really had a Batman: The Long Halloween feel mixed with a dose of Seven. I really loved it because it felt like the type of Gotham where Joaquin Phoenix's the Joker could have happened in too -- even though I know they won't make it a part of it.
I went to an early release screening just a few days before the theatrical release, and they handed out a variant of The Long Halloween Vol 1:1 with the art for it done to look similarly to the film. It was a really cool bit of swag and sorta set my mind for what to expect with the film.

When I watched this in theaters, I had the biggest smile across my face for almost the entire 3 hours. The batmobile reveal scene literally shook my seat.
I really loved this film. Detective movies are my favorite and I’ve been waiting for a Batman film like this. After seeing it a few times and letting it marinate for a month and a half in my mind, I think it’s my favorite live action Batman adaptation. Pattinson crushed it! The whole cast did and the director Matt Reeves and Michael Giacchino’s score!
The ending gets me crying every time, a Batman film can be beautiful with enough passion behind it. Also, that mysterious inmate is totally Planet Master.
Aaron needing to deuce Catwoman but getting Hush right away was something else. 1:13:57 Green liquid from DC that gives you a massive boost and was first used by Batman...whatever could it be.
Liked the different take Reeves took with character. Felt like The Long Halloween & Year One meets Seven. Cinematography was amazing. Heard a GCPD HBOMax show is coming so they could do what Aaron said. Loved shoutouts to past Batman films. Very Silence of the Lambs with deleted scene.
I like that this film makes Batman seem more supernatural. Like he really is some creature from myth come to put fear into the wicked. The way he blends into the shadows and appears from seemingly out of nowhere. How he's able to take gunshots and shrug them off. How his signal is a sign to criminals that he is out and about, making them paranoid of every shadow. He really feels like some kind of monster compared to his other movie incarnations.
25:20 The sheer joy of seeing a guy crash into a truck that explodes, thinking you got away, immediately becoming sheer panice after seeing his car JUMP over the fire... The Batman is legendary
This is perhaps the most faithful adaptation of Batman from the comics I have ever seen. Especially if you read Scott Snyder’s run of the comics with The Court Of Owls, which fingers crossed 🤞 we get in the next movie. And I especially loved that not only did he stop a mass shooting (especially now that sadly in America they are almost commonplace) and beat them to a pulp, but also showed he doesn’t just have to be a punisher of criminals, but a savior of the innocent.
I think this was the greatest depiction of a graffic novel hero since Netflix Daredevil, Punisher and the film Oblivion. I can't wait to add this to my collection. They stayed so true to his personality and his portrayal as the world's greatest detective. So realistic and relatable.
I love this movie because every shot, every character and every decision has thinking behind it. I love how the first scene shows the Riddler spying on a victim. We get nearly the same scene with Batman later when he spies on Catwoman. And the fact that in the first scene you didn’t know if it was the Riddler or the Batman just shows how good the director and the cinematographer are. I also love how the riddler when he talks, he sometimes talks so loud that the microphone in which he talks to, is overdriven. This shows e.g. that in comparison to the Batman, the riddler sometimes gets over the limit of revenge, which sets him and the Batman apart.
38:38 i REALLY loved this scene as a batman fan because a lot of modern batman media seems to forget that batman's main motivation is helping and protecting the people of gotham in favor of making him a brooding angsty macho man that punches his feelings away. which like yeah. but he also helps people.
I love the scream of fire and metal when the Batmobile is ignited. I literally watched that scene back three times just so I can hear it scream like Batman is the fucking ghost rider.
I read somewhere that somebody said he walks slowly so the contact lenses have more time to record. Also Alfred talks about his time in "The Circus" which is the British overseas intelligence agency from John Le Carrè books.
Love this movie. The scene earlier in the movie when he first started following Selena, if you look at the top left corner of the building you can actually see Riddler in the window taking pics of the iceberg lounge. (Brings it all the way around @33:08) That's jus crazy. Blink and miss it.
My favorite piece of the movie is the Riddlers cheesy film editing. It's funny to imagine him in Final Cut Pro trying to choose which sound effects to use
41:03 There is actually a The Batman prequel novel for this movie. It reveals more info on Bruce and how he trained to be the Batman. Eric makes a good point here, because this Bruce did go on a world tour and attended the best universities around the world and he also mastered (or at least familiarized himself with) every martial arts in those respective schools.
Batman, Riddler, and Catwoman's themes were released a month or so before the film and I listened to them almost every day. I was so excited for the soundtrack and it did not disappoint.

@@ZealStarMedia joker is the first
@@Darthvader68778 but he wasn't even the Joker yet at that point I bet.

I’m glad writers remember batman isn’t just a horror to the criminals, he’s a real fucking hero, a really good dude who wants to do his best to protect Gotham so kids on the street won’t have to suffer what he went through
You can’t just be fear for villains. You need to also be hope for everyone else.

Part of why I loved that the mayor’s kid was the first to take Bruce’s hand in the water.

Yeah, very true! He's evolved from becoming someone focused on vengeance and more focused on actually helping people.
Did you like go to the bathroom during your first viewing?
The Batman gave us the best introduction to the Batmobile in cinema ever. Everything about that scene was epic. Notice the sound completely dies in that scene? No music at all and then.... Engine starts... masterpiece

@@k.delpino1124 Thought he said this Joker is more of a L'Homme Qui Rit type of situation with a congenital deformity where he's always smiling.

Exactly
Like the want to sound clever, but it comes out very stupid.
That would be awesome Falcone would just be like "Well I fucked up bad."

Agreed
The only reason he didn't get the last clue because he believed that it was all about him (Bruce Wayne) he thought he was the end goal, didn't see the big picture. Which is completely understandable
Alfred translated it right, it's el rata alada ON PURPOSE because of the URL thing. Bruce translated it as the winged rat and he was right. No mistake there.
While some points you made I agree with, I do have problems with this Batman as a detective/hero.. Because he was always too late at stopping Riddler.
Spoilos:
I think the riddler always wanted vengeance on the city, everything before was him explaining why everyone deserves to die.
Maybe supermans power was seen as so great that he knew that he had to be made, to fear becoming villainous. The only way to do that would be to prove, that there is someone out there, who can beat him.
@@johnsummit101 The only reason he was hopeful in JL was because of the shitshow of his character in BvS. He wasn't vengeful like Robert's Batman. He's the idiotic brawn type of Batman that don't really use his brain for some critical thinking.

The upcoming Penguin series on HBO Max sounds interesting.
