I remember playing this thinking it was canon as a kid and being baffled at the choice to make Snake out to have experimented on hundreds of children, fun game though.
I remember Xplay tearing this game to shreds at the time, because really a traditional mgs game would have been better at the psps launch. I wonder if this game would have been better received if mgs peace walker came out before this did.
PvP was the best on these games. I still have my save file from 2003 with my ninja setup deck for Snake that I used all the time against the one other friend that had these games
acid 2 is just an all around improvement besides maybe visuals, it goes for a weird bright color cel shaded style that some might not like, but the deck building options and mission variety are massively improved.
The Acid games are legitimately two of my favourite Metal Gear games from the whole franchise, and pretty high on my favourite PSP games. I always thought they translated the gameplay loop of MGS incredibly well into a turn based deck builder. I'm really hoping they release these games as part of the master collection. Will be pretty disappointed if they don't.
Honestly I wish we could get another Metal Gear spinoff that's a Metal Gear/Final Fantasy VII hybrid. Meaning it's Metal Gear game with an explorable overworld, turn based combat, leveling/stat system, side missions, side activities, and tons of tactical Espionage JRPG Action! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Despite being non-canon The Ac!d games are one of my favorite underrated spin-offs and alternate continuation to MGS because it won't collide with the main canon since the games is an alternate continuity were snake's fate is different and is a more a fresh experience than you are used to.
It's funny. I dunno if it's MGA1 or 2, but I finished one Acid game but it was a Java version played on an old Nokia phone. Good times. It took me several years even when smartphones are a common thing to move from old mobile phones to Android.
This was actually the first Metal Gear game I played ever. Kinda confusing, but I really liked it. Thanks for reviewing it, brought back nice memories.
AC!D is hella underrated. I still have my 3D cardboard goggles (the SOLID EYE TOBIDAC!D) that came with part 2 that you slap on your PSP to make it 3D, lol.
This was my very first game on the PSP. I remember grinding the first two missions, getting myself as accustomed to the VERY strange game as much as I possibly could, before I just plowed on through the surprisingly difficult campaign. (and spamming Running Man's card whenever I could, since that particular card was busted and I was VERY lucky to draw that one). The story was also bonkers. More bonkers than any Metal Gear game up to that point, and the prior two mainline entries featured a romanian "vampire", a bullet repelling witch, an entomancer that could make bee granades, and a literal ghost.
I've heard of this game but didn't give it any attention. I didn't know it had this kind of a story to it. It's very interesting and I think I know why it's called Acid, given the way hallucinogens' are used to mess with Snakes mind. Kind of like how the drug Acid is like. Since this game takes place in a different continuity, I want to say this takes place after Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. Mainly as from what i saw Roger visited Snake at his home, which looked to be in Alaska. And in Metal Gear Solid we can watch briefing tapes where Snake talks about being a dog musher in Alaska, plus a part where he cuts his hair. Yet from what I can see it's long. So in a way this is a Alternate continuity where the Shadow Moses incident never happened (AKA Metal Gear Solid)
I love the Ac!d series, and I hope they're part of a future master collection volume. I've replayed the series a bunch of times and I always have problems with the blackout mission in Ac!d 1. The hardest part of either game imo.
Wolfenstein(the first fps) was also turned into a turn based rpg on cellphones, pre smartphones. It was a really good. I had it on my old Razr flip phone
The game actually does let you save your progress you if look in the system options. That specific level you were stuck on was a lot easier for me because of the save feature. I’ve seen other reviews complain about not having a save system when there actually is. I guess the developers shouldn’t have hidden it away in the system options.
Can it be used to manually set checkpoints? I tried to use it but it seems all it does is drop a “continue” point so you can close the game and go do something else
@@notcole Yes that’s what it’s used for. It creates a checkpoint during a level before kicking you back to the title screen. Now at the title screen you select continue instead of load to go to the checkpoint. The checkpoint is never erased unless you overwrite it with another checkpoint save during a level. So if you die or quit out of a level you’ll still be able to load it. This is really handy if you want to try doing something risky in a level. Also during boss fights the game won’t let you save. Probably to make it harder to cheese the fights.
Im a Metal Gear fan so i HAD to play these. I beat Ac!d 2 but never ac!d 1. There was a bug where the colored ski mask never showed up where it was supposed to. So i was stuck. Im not a huge tactics fan but these games were great. Ready for you to do Ac!d 2. Good work
I got this game as a kid, and o couldn't even take a step forward. I remember being so disappointed as I thought it would of had the same gameplay as mgs1
As a kid back then I was turned off by the card stuff and wrote off this sub series but now as an adult I'm looking at Acid 2 in particular and I wish the series had more of the same graphic style. The tactical gameplay was definitely a good idea considering the PSP's lack of 2nd stick. Peace Walker was a true Metal Gear game on PSP but honestly was trash to play on the handheld. Glad to see a review of this by you!
The one I won't forget is how they pulled a Starkiller by killing Snake and replacing him with a clone in the sequel. Except they claimed they've killed Snake offscreen and used his remaind for cloning despite looking fine in the first game. Whether we see how Snake died or it was a rooze and Snake is in hiding or some shit. We will never know since Metal Gear despite being a glorious franchise. This spin off is even more niche than the mainline games.

MGA1 was one of my Xmas presents during Xmas 2005. I think it’s a great MG game. It’s actually nice to play it after you’ve completed the canon MGS games just to transport yourself into another MG universe. It’s nice to explore an alternate universe where Snake is still a hero. Love it. Same for MGA2

I liked the acid games. They're weird but in the right ways and being portable they were the sort of things that you could pick up and put down when you felt like it. A switch port would be a logical step to get more people to play them and whilst a some of people might think it holds up against more modern titles like xcom or midnight sons (I haven't played it to know how it plays) it's still interesting.

the cool thing abt MGS Ac!d is that at the time when it released a lot of people didn't really know what this game was trying to be. a lot of players were taken aback by how unorthodox of a MGS entry it was. card game players might've not been interested in MGS at all. and MGS fans might not been into TGC games at all. *however* this perspective is mostly a westerns view. collectible trading card games are MASSIVE in Japan. if it's an intellectual property it likely has some sort of TCG attached to it. so from my understanding this game while not the biggest seller in the east either was received a lot beter where both fans recognized the fun handheld spin-off full of fanservice and regular player saw just a fun bite-sized MGS spin-off on the PSP. in retrospect it's commendable how the AC!D series has remained untouched by the wave of F2P monetized card games that have blown up in the years afterwards. it's almost weird that Konami of all companies didn't monetize the living daylight out of AC!D spin-offs on mobile phones. for what it's worth that at least has me happy that AC!D wasn't the biggest seller out there. we still have our fun unorthodox MGS card-game without it being soured with how Konami tends to handle properties in recent times. as always great video mate 🙏 there's a few entries coming up that I'm curious to what you'll think of them

You think the sci-fi super natural twists of the mainline MGS games (1-5) were out there? Acid has them all in one game with an acid trip. The story is twist after twist, so perhaps taking the MGS ethos of “it’s definitely not what it seems” to the extreme.
I always loved the ACID games, and was disappointed that there weren't many more games like them that I could find. The one I do know and have played a good amount is Warhammer 40k: Space Wolf, but it's not as good as even ACID 1, which it is much closer to than ACID 2. Additionally, it's not a stealth game, so a lot of battles devolve into "play card with bigger damage numbers and hope for the best," with just spending so much time killing waves of enemies. At this point, I kinda hope that the MGS Master Collection Volume 2 has the ACID games on it along with MGS4 and Peace Walker. I mean, the first one had Snake's Revenge of all things, so ACID has at least a snowball's chance of showing up.
The ONLY reason I got this game was because it had Metal Gear in the title. At first I was not a fan, but stuck it out cuz MGS is my fav game framchise, so I wanted to give this a fair shake. I played n beat it, then played 2. I don't look back on them fondly AT ALL, but the more I watch this video the more memories I have come back, and the more I remember I really enjoyed my time with this goofy little game. I don't ever wanna go back, lol, but I realize the game was pretty alright. Edit: I remember Fortune being absolutely busted. Liquid Snake was amazing but not always easy to set up. The Vulcan was amazing, the S.A.A. was probably my fav gun tho. Shit. I kinda actually, really miss that game now.
Play the second one and enjoyed it but the first one when I bought it I had trouble getting past the first stage after the tutorial. I don't know why it seemed to harder all of a sudden but I think I was just trying to rush.
All I know about MGS AC!D is it's a non-canon card game. It lost my interest at "card game". For all I ever knew, it was a really good game, but I have zero interest in "Metal Gear Solid, but it's a card game".

it's kinda confusing when you talk about things like "Codecs" in these videos XD like you seem to use the term Codec and Radio interchangably, which...is not how it is. When you say "take the Codec from someone" I end up thinking "...what? How'd he-...did he rip it out of the guy's ear?"
Yeah I definitely have a bad habit with that one 😅 I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain that they actually do say that he picked up a Codec in that scene...
@@notcole lol that is very odd XD the Codec itself was invented by Mei Ling who isn't even a part of things in this timeline. I can only assume it must be like a different version of the Codec then since the normal Codec starts off in Solid 1 as an implant.
Aside from Tsubasa Masao's character designs, this game has literally no redeeming features. It's the only Metal Gear I actively hate. Makes Snake's Revenge look like a masterpiece.

Very difficult to play I’m still trying but because I’m a serious metal gear head I got to play through
dang, one man jagged alliance
Why, yes, I am an avid acid enjoyer. How could you tell?
One of my favorite psp games it didn't grasp me at first but I ended up beating it
I enjoyed Ac!d. It had a decent story and gameplay was fun and not slow like other card games
How is the MGS4 playthrough going?
Acid 2 is my fav PSP game
very different but they were both awesome
Play the second one and enjoyed it but the first one when I bought it I had trouble getting past the first stage after the tutorial. I don't know why it seemed to harder all of a sudden but I think I was just trying to rush.
Acid is awesome. Acid 1&2 top 3 metal gear games.
Seems a bit like Invisible Inc but with none of the refined turn-based stealth systems and some needlessly overcomplicated control scheme.
Play Acid 2.Even the UI is made of acid
Metal gear acid was awesome
oh so this is yggdra union but mgs skinned and 3d
impressive! very nice!... now let's see MGA!2
Not first! I never dared to touch this game for some reason, eager to see this episode!
All I know about MGS AC!D is it's a non-canon card game. It lost my interest at "card game". For all I ever knew, it was a really good game, but I have zero interest in "Metal Gear Solid, but it's a card game".
@@SnakebitSTI It sure would be great to have publishers release original concepts as their own thing and not strapped to an existing license.
Especially because once portable ops was out, AC!D felt like an even harder sell to me.
@@Rubafix989 Yep. But publishers know slapping well known names on stuff helps it sell. And sometimes developers genuinely have wild and crazy ideas for where they want to take an existing concept.
I didn't hate Ac!d...but as a fan it was weird af.
Wish it was on steam
It's South Africa, as in the country.
Good video
Damn you, I never played these because card-based RPG sounded awful for MGS. I hate being wrong.... Now I must play.
Acid is right :P
I loved this game
Atctl MGS game should have been awesome
it's kinda confusing when you talk about things like "Codecs" in these videos XD like you seem to use the term Codec and Radio interchangably, which...is not how it is. When you say "take the Codec from someone" I end up thinking "...what? How'd he-...did he rip it out of the guy's ear?"
Yeah I definitely have a bad habit with that one 😅
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm fairly certain that they actually do say that he picked up a Codec in that scene...
@@notcole lol that is very odd XD the Codec itself was invented by Mei Ling who isn't even a part of things in this timeline. I can only assume it must be like a different version of the Codec then since the normal Codec starts off in Solid 1 as an implant.
I liked this game
and they were based for that
One annoying aspect in this game is the backtracking.
Its a card/board game. Not an rpg.
Aside from Tsubasa Masao's character designs, this game has literally no redeeming features. It's the only Metal Gear I actively hate. Makes Snake's Revenge look like a masterpiece.
Dude the reason why you and many others couldn't understand the story is because all y'all played the game wrong... And I already know what some of you are thinking "How do you play Metal Gear Acid wrong?" Well, I'm gonna answer your question with a question which is the answer by asking you this: 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
Have you tried being on "ACiD" while playing Metal Gear Acid? If the answer is NO then that proves you played the game wrong.😊
how is it an RPG?
Once you got to the card system, I was completely lose. Why cant they just make these like XCOM or Tactics Ogre. This game is what happens when you have that one developer whos too eccentric
