    I'm a Bown family fan.
I had just started racing in Portland and Dick had rented an old gas station for the winter at 122nd and Burnside in Portland.
He was always there alone at night building his first Superbird from the ground up.
I enjoyed handing him tools and asked more questions than I probably should have.
He gave Hershel a pretty good run for his money that season.
Hershel had a car from Petty that year though that was hard to beat.
Carl Joiner ran our racing association Oregon Auto Racing Association.
Carl was a good guy, kids on my team and I called him Uncle Carl.
He called me once and told me if I brought my engine back on Saturday night I was getting torn down.
Those years were probably the most fun I had in my whole life.
    Larry Currier.

I knew of Chuck from working with Cecil Gordon in the early and mid 70's
In their travels heading east for Charlotte and Martinsville, Chuck and Jimmy Insolo stopped by Cecil's shop in Mills River NC.. South Mills River road to be exact. What followed was a cookout prepared by Cecil's wife Janet, along with racing stories all fueled with cold Coor's from the west coast. Mike Hill was there.
One really interesting subject were the disc brakes on Jimmy's car, the "hot tip" first Martinsville.
I always thought they were very good drivers!

I love that you are getting some of the early BGN champions that are still with us. I'm hoping for Grissom and Green in the future!

I learned throttle control from Chuck. Watched him play the 1st simulator, "Hard Driving" at Carolina mall. That squeaking throttle pedal brought to my attention how he controlled it so well. I raced at Concord speedway a while after that and was up to speed immediately. Thanks chuck. was always a fan after that

My best memory of Chuck was that night at Indianapolis raceway park when he was the leader with only a few laps left and he pulled in the pits. I think his seatbelts came undone. They interviewed a bunch of guys on tv that night and Dale Sr said he would have kept driving! Great interview to all of you!

Stock Car Racing magazine did a column a few months after this race where they polled various drivers what they would do in the same situation.

29:52 I see he got his wheel openings clearanced back up! Ready for BAJA.
Nursing is one of a select few professions that can migrate anywhere in the country and take their credentials and grab a well paying gig. Good for her for supporting Chuck's ambitions.
Love the victory lane baby hand off story. You can see a similar moment in the Peter Sellers biopic. Charlize Theron (playing Britt Elkland) Hands Geoffrey Rush their baby in the middle of a film set when he is being a particularly self centred douche. Not victory lane, mind you. Anyway, great movie. Excellent embodiment of Sellars by Rush.
