Deaner himself once said in an interview that all of his solos are either “Blue Sky” or “Maggot Brain”, and he’s waiting for somebody to call him on it.
Ween is what happens when a teenage punk band gets really good at their instruments and branches out into other genres without learning the stylistic "rules" most musicians take for granted.
Claude Coleman might be in the top 10 rock drummers of all time. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree....his dad was amazingly talented as well.
He plays the kit like it's an orchestra setup. I had the pleasure of meeting him once at a music festival. I was more star struck than the time I met Les Claypool. Claude was a really nice guy.
Agreed. Especially considering he came back from a horrible accident and doctors questioning if he'd ever be able to have the coordination and dexterity to play again. The man worked his ass off to overcome the effects of brain damage, partial paralysis, and a crushed pelvis and never looked back. Plus, he's just a really swell duder.
i saw them on halloween in 2018 and i swear to god he did like a SEVEN MINUTE drum solo during voodoo lady, dude is a machine. still one of the best shows i've ever seen live bar none.
I've been on a one man crusade encouraging Michael to just do the whole record. Buckingham Green, Johnny On The Spot, The Argus, Chocolate Town... so many tracks ripe for the picking
YES!!!! Been waiting for you to react to this. Deaner is one of the scariest guitarists ever. He got no props because Ween is not about props. Ween is the real deal.
need to give some recognition to Dave Dreiwitz holding down the low end. Masterful bass player. He’s also the bass player for Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, except when Ween is on tour which takes priority.
man at this point you basically gotta react to the whole damn 2003 DVD, love your reactions to ween and i hope the next song of theirs you do is Buckingham green! as to not knowing how to describe it at 6:35, the word you're looking for is BROWN lol
I love that this is, what...your third ween vid? You went from "some dudes told me to check this band out" to a point now where it's clear you've developed a huge appreciation for the band's musical talent.
Just saw Ween live for the first time the other night and they were amazing! They played this song and it was just as drawn out and killer as this version…they love to jam on this one!
Their best guitar song, and Dean has mentioned his favorite song to play live, is Roses Are Free. There’s an excellent live version from a festival on YT.
Ween is a long deep dive. funk freakouts like this, beautiful country music, next to gorgeous Philly soul, it goes on and on. Almost always catchy and if not, it still remains always interesting.
I wondered why you stopped. You seemed to really enjoy them and you haven't even begun to scratch the surface. Once I was hooked I couldn't stay away. Going to see them for the first time next week in Scranton.
First time I saw them live, already knew all their tunes by heart, but I was perhaps face-off & danced from 11p-2a to them + some guests on a clear, starry night, nonstop. Such an amazing band & stellar kind fellas!!
Awesome! But this isn't even scratching the enormous surface that is WEEN. B-sides, Demos, covers, rarities🤘 DEEP DIVE and worship BOOGNISH🖤 Love what your doing!
Love your reviews of Ween. Have you taken the time to experience a live event? I've been living this amazement for 35+ years! "Let me rest in time while I blow your mind".
Dude I was waiting for you to do this one. Not to downplay any of the other songs, but in a nutshell there's a great song for you to break down. Thank you thank you thank you!
I’ve been a Ween lover for sooo many years now. I’ve seen them countless times. I so enjoyed watching your face experience this…it was like showing someone the ocean for the first time. Great stuff.
Love Ween! great choice. Classic one here. The solo on this live take is well quite extended, and to me really reminds me of the tension and release thing that make so many jam bands great. These guys studied country music just to make a country LB. They are beyond their time on many of their records.
We got to hang out with David Byrne’s band a couple of years ago and the majority of his bands favorite band, at least at the time, was Ween which made me so happy because they were so smart and so accomplished and so talented. I love that you’re getting to experience weed and I hate that some people go through a whole lifetime without knowing they exist
Not sure if I posted this already but wanted to recommend Nirvana-Endless nameless live at the paramount. Knowing you like nirvana a lot it’s a fun one
Would love to see you react to black midi’s “John L” (their KEXP version in particular). They do a lot of really funky musical things that I think we could all get a kick out of!
They pretty much play this at every live show, it's a staple right up there with Buckingham Green, spinal meningitis. I've seen them live probably two dozen times and only time they didn't play this was when I saw them at this local fundraiser at the New Hope football field when they played a very short set... You can actually watch that. It was June 2020
Ween is the reason I'm still alive. No bullshit. Their music is this Mona Lisa on Mt Rushmore thing in the handicapped stall of a Kwik Trip witch means you're crazy or in Wisconsin, which makes entirely much more sense ...wait why did I not fuck up the 2 ways to spell witch?.... is there only 2 ways... fuck I hope so... witches scare me... like voodoo ladies
Love ween, for the actual song this version I think trades the groove for energy in a way that I like but wouldn't listen to as my main version. The 2nd solo is amazing though, Deaner is a god.
This isn't even remotely close to being accurate.
@@thegreatbrardnot trying to dunk on you, but why not? As a “classically trained” musician this definition hits home for me
@@colenicholson96 they weren't a punk band...
They used to play to a DAT of deener playing drums when they 1st started.... there's a live vid from 1989 you can see them in the beginning
@@SeamusPercy-tc3flhave you seen video of their first gig in high school? It was definitely punk rock

He plays the kit like it's an orchestra setup. I had the pleasure of meeting him once at a music festival. I was more star struck than the time I met Les Claypool. Claude was a really nice guy.
I’ve been singing the praises of Claude Coleman on music UA-cam for years. It’s criminal how few people have no idea who he is.
@jarodeddy859 Also, I agree here. The man can coax a hell of a lot out of a relatively minimal/standard kit.
i saw them on halloween in 2018 and i swear to god he did like a SEVEN MINUTE drum solo during voodoo lady, dude is a machine. still one of the best shows i've ever seen live bar none.
More Ween please, anytime, whenever…
God I love Ween.
Hes on the underrated Mt Rushmore
Dude just do the whole Live in Chicago record already
"I Don't know how to describe it." The word you're looking for is "Brown" mane.
need to give some recognition to Dave Dreiwitz holding down the low end. Masterful bass player. He’s also the bass player for Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, except when Ween is on tour which takes priority.
The bassist is an absolute master
DOUBLE DIIIIIIIIIIP

At 4:40.. WHAT WAS THAT??? That's the STALLION MANG!!!
Dean ween the most underrated guitar player ever
I love that this is, what...your third ween vid? You went from "some dudes told me to check this band out" to a point now where it's clear you've developed a huge appreciation for the band's musical talent.
Loved this song for a while now but never realized what an insane level of guitarist Dean really was/is. Holy shit.
His solo from That Man From The Flatland has been killing me lately. Dude is truly a god with a guitar in his hands
You should definitely do L.M.L.Y.P. by Ween!
Their ode to Prince
🤎
Just saw Ween live for the first time the other night and they were amazing! They played this song and it was just as drawn out and killer as this version…they love to jam on this one!
YES MORE WEEN. PERHAPS THE BEST LIVE BAND EVER!!!!
Their best guitar song, and Dean has mentioned his favorite song to play live, is Roses Are Free. There’s an excellent live version from a festival on YT.
Phish does it better, imho
Phish does not do it better
@@oliverchapman51177 I love phish and I can’t stand their version
Phish does it different. Regardless, I discovered ween through phish’s version so all is good in the world.
@@Isaac.Garcia666 that’s how untalented Ween is. Saw them 300-400 just in new hope the past 35 yrs. Just awful

"What was that?!" Pretty much my reaction the first time i heard Ween.
Exactly. It took me quite a while to fully appreciate them, but the first time was "What in god's name..?"
Assuming you haven't already, I big time recommend checking out their live in Chicago performance of I'll Be Your Jonny On The Spot
Deaner's solos in Voodoo Lady always reminds me of Santana at Woodstock with a weird little slice of Prince on the side
i love it when they go into that king crimson elephant talk bit. amazing!
YESSS finally you react to more WEEN! I live for you soaking up the sweet brown elixir that is their music!
I wondered why you stopped. You seemed to really enjoy them and you haven't even begun to scratch the surface. Once I was hooked I couldn't stay away. Going to see them for the first time next week in Scranton.
More from Ween Live in Chicago please. They were on fire that tour.
Ween got me to Explore Past Metal Music as a Young man. Thank God for Ween.
Or Satan
You described it perfectly with the P-funk vibe. Deaner talks about how much of a major influence they they have always been.
Claude Coleman on why he doesn’t uses cases “They cut into my rocking time”
Fucking legend
All your videos are amazing, but the ween ones are the best!
MOAR WEEN?! HELL YES!!!!!!!!
Buckles up for a hella-brown good time.
That was fun to watch and hear. thanks. Yes, Ween has consistently been very very special!
You could lose days watching live in Chicago. If we're blessed to see more ween from you this would be the set to take it from.
First time I saw them live, already knew all their tunes by heart, but I was perhaps face-off & danced from 11p-2a to them + some guests on a clear, starry night, nonstop. Such an amazing band & stellar kind fellas!!
I'm old. These guys were so much fun. Lounge Ax, the Vic. Metro, the Riv. All the cool places.
Awesome! But this isn't even scratching the enormous surface that is WEEN. B-sides, Demos, covers, rarities🤘 DEEP DIVE and worship BOOGNISH🖤 Love what your doing!
Such a stupidly great song
Never heard of these guys. Theyre awesome
Have fun going down the rabbit hole

Deaner once said all of his solos are just drawn out renditions of either Maggot Brain or Blue Sky...and/or both
😂
This entire concert is a much watch
Ween was the first band I saw you react to, and I've been a regular watcher of your channel ever since. So glad to see you react to Ween again!
Love it! Such a great band!
Love it! Glad you jumped back in..
Been awhile since you realized how wild and wacky Ween is... lol.. thats amazing. They are So very wildly underated as well!
I just saw these guys last month and I'm ready to see them again.
I’ve been a Ween lover for sooo many years now. I’ve seen them countless times. I so enjoyed watching your face experience this…it was like showing someone the ocean for the first time. Great stuff.
Johnny on the spot
Chicago is so mind blowing
This whole song goes so hard! Been waiting for you to get to this one!
Live concerts legit turn into a religious experience with Ween. Dean is a Swiss Army knife on guitar.
Used to be soooo into Ween. Thanks for pointing out the bass in this. Often overlooked but really drives that song.
I love this version!

WEEN! About time, Michael! Thanks!!!
You are the best guitar react/teacher on UA-cam
Ween always goes where u don’t think it’s gonna go. Especially timing
Live in Chicago is EPIC!! 😁 LOVE THE BOOGNISH!! 💚🎶🎶🎶
Outstanding review on an outstanding band!
Saw them last year, going again in Sep. Love me some Ween.
Michael i think you would love that whole Chicago concert. Look it up. They are so good.
Michael - please tell me you’re seeing Ween this summer!! They’re one of my favorite live bands ever
Michael! Go see Ween live this summer!!! It's their 40th anniversary tour!
Love Ween!!!

Not sure if I posted this already but wanted to recommend Nirvana-Endless nameless live at the paramount. Knowing you like nirvana a lot it’s a fun one
Keep going with Ween.
'I'll be your Jonny on the spot' from the same live in Chicago album!
I would pay to see him react to that entire DVD or Live At Stubbs.
Deaner's best solo
Would love to see you react to black midi’s “John L” (their KEXP version in particular). They do a lot of really funky musical things that I think we could all get a kick out of!

I got the ‘I can make you dance’ Roger & Zapp vibes…but yea you right…the source.
That first guitar solo had some major Eddie Hazel vibes; immediately after, had some Foghat vibes. Rad.
hell yea love seeing ween on this channel!
I didn't think I could feel so good on a Sunday and Monday
Ween is the greatest band in the history of music...
I've been waiting for more Ween! Basically anything from Live in Chicago is great.
I have waited literal years for this one.
WEEN is Da'bessst!!!
Yus!! MOAR WEEN!
Hail, Boognish! Any chance you get to see them live, GO! You’ll love it.
Copy that, Ghostrider...Red Rocks 8/3 here I come!
Ween is the best! Thank you Michael. Please do more Ween!
Yay more ween
You said it right..... Wild.
Voodoo Lady is the best live Ween jam. Saw them in Pittsburg in 2018 and they jammed the fuck outta it!
I didn't expect Nickelback to mention this song in their Nardwuar interview
More Ween. Their recent runs at the Capitol Theatre and Brooklyn Bowl are great shows to check out.
Amazing quality and performances on those shows; WEEN just gets better.
Prince and Dickey Betts are Deaners faves

Dean's intro is just an Am6 played like a D7 on the 5th fret without root (A-C-F#). Then he changes the F# between G, F#, and E.
Fuuuuck yes ! Bringing Ween back to the channel!

Let’s goooooo!!!!
Never sad about more Ween!
Praise be Boognish! More Ween! Happy Browning to the uneducated!
I watched them live 2023. Indian Casino. Oh yeah. They are still very much Alive. 🙂
I also have a Live tour T-Shirt. You are Jellie AF of my Browness. :-) Fun Show! 🙂
Just sink your teeth into it- love Ween
Ween is The American Beatles.
