Dell WD19TB teardown and USB port repair

In this video I replace a broken dual USB 3 port on a Dell WD19TB Docking Station. I go through the process from start to finish including where I purchased a compatible non-OEM replacement part for cheap.

I had same issue getting the port off, even using a preheater, hot air and soldering iron simultaneously. managed to push through eventually with fine wire, but the ground plane wicks the heat away so quickly. I used the Wurth Elektronik USB3.0 port rather than the molex, which is slightly longer and fitsperfectly, however there were also a couple of traces broken which I had to repair. Unfortunately at the moment it is not reading devices, so not too sure if a filter or IC was damaged when the port was damaged. Will have to take and power it up to get some readings.

Find some very low temperature solder and flood the area with that before attempting removal - much easier

Thanks, I just needed to know how to get the cover off to remove a some lock part that were cut off, but I stayed to watch the soldering part.

Good video! I think it would have been even better if you had set the camera up on the bench, across from your seat, to show the desoldering & soldering. I know sometimes (desoldering especially) things don't go smoothly ... but it would be educational to see how you dealt with those issues.

Possible overheating issue. I'd advise to make sure it has enough air flow
