Always pony up for the 6pt. impact socket. Especially if you're gonna use it on an impact wrench. They fit and bite better. Makes life so much easier.

Car sounds good, sure looks good too. Thanks for the information. I had 1800 tied up in a built 7.5. Never again, they just can't handle torque or real horsepower. 1 issue was the new pinion bearing lasted about a year then got to where it let the pinion push forward which ate away at my crank thrust area. Got that whole mess straightened out then it broke the right axle doing a hole shot in front of my house. Was a 410 gear but swapped to a 373 after the pinion bearing/crank thrust wear issue. It has moser street strip axles. They're called something I don't remember what. Anyways I'm running a powerglide with a 3500 stall and pro tree BTE trans brake. I haven't torn into it since breaking the axle last week but it broke the right axle a couple inches from the splines and the diff cover has 3or4 knots with something slightly protruding through the top knot which is actually a hole now. I think I may put a 12 bolt in it but may do the ford 8.8 idk yet. My car had a full roller 383 with dart pro1 heads. That's what busted up the pinion bearing and I just put a 327 in it with gm fastburn heads which broke the rear end this last time. The sad part is the rear end didn't have 50 miles on it. It felt right, sounded fine but a hole shot with a 3000 MSD rpm pill was to much. Maybe it's the ring and pinion gear that gave out this time since them two parts weren't made of hardened and stronger material. I do know a guy that went through a couple gear units that was OEM. He finally broke down and bought a hardened ring and pinion from Richmond gear specifically for drag racing and hasn't broken it yet but that's in a 67 Chevelle with a 12 bolt rear end.

Nice! I have a 7.5 but plan on upgrading mines to a 9in next year. Gonna ride my 7.5 out and prey it doesn’t break. Just put in a ls so hopefully it isn’t to much power for it. Not running any slicks so should hold up for the year.

Hey Giff: I just recently purchased a LS swapped 84 Olds Cutlass Supreme. I am looking for a rear spoiler, specifically the 442, but they are scarce as hens teeth. Anyway I have read that 3rd gen Firebird rear spoilers fit the trunks of these Cutlass' pretty well. Can you tell me if your spoiler is from a 442 or a 3rd gen Firebird? It looks good and if it is from a 3rd gen Firebird that would help me narrow down my search. As always I do thank you in advance your time and consideration.

Not 100% sure but I believe the one I have is from an f-body, not a 442. Needed to add 1/2” riser/spacers under it.

So what gears you had in the 7.5

      The 7.5 was originally 2.41, then swapped 3.23. The 8.5 is 3.42
