Street Bob Fuel Economy • Milwaukee 8 Stage III Mileage

  • In this video I give you the fuel economy results from over 800 miles of riding and 8 tanks full of gas on the Street Bob with Stage III. Stock EPA estimates are 47 mpg, but nobody gets that mileage anyway!?. I hadn't really thought about mpg or fuel economy, but a few viewers asked me about it so I put together the video to share my findings. I did three different types of riding to give you a few comparison points: In-town riding / commuting, highway riding, and interstate riding. What's your guess on how the mileage calculates out? I calculated these Street Bob fuel economy results on my 2019 Harley-Davidson Softail Street Bob FXBB with Stage III, but I suppose results for the 2020 would be similar.

Several viewers asked me about the fuel economy on the Street Bob FXBB with Stage III, so burned some gas and logged some miles to check it out. What's your guess on the worst, best, and average fuel economy that I got?

  • @paulkroger9367

I regularly get 42-48 MPG with my near stock 2019 FXBB. I have slip on Cobra pipes, Memphis Shades Road Warrior faring with a 15" windshield.

Great vid Ron. Considering the small tank of the M8 Street Bob, gas mileage is a pertinent topic. I don’t have a Harley yet (I have another brand bike) but would like to add a Harley to the garage at some point, and the Street Bob is one of my fav Harleys that I’ve ridden. I’ve done test rides on most of the current softails, and a Road King Special which was also very nice. Keep up the good work!

Good video. Ive got a Fat Bob S with the 114 just slip ons. Bikes got a 3.6gal tank. My local riding, mostly backroads, normal roads sometimes 2up is 36-42mpg. Ive gotten as low as 27mpg, riding super aggressive. Then on a couple long trips, both solo and 2up, ive gotten 55+mpg.

Thanks for sharing that info Dustin! 55 mpg is excellent and I love that you ride hard enough to get it down to 27. If you want a channel sticker send me a DM on Instagram with the mailing info @RonsWorkshop

In my street bob 107 with Andrew's m460 cam (good cam for fuel efficiency) I can stretch out 150 miles from a tank. Its a mix of small town and highways, but I find even after a day in the twisties it doesnt seem to change the mpg much. I have tuned it with power vision and target tune. Calculated mpg is around 44. Its actually better then when I had the dealer tuned stage 1.

Nice work! How do you like the power vision tuner? When my warranty is up this summer I’m going to re-map and make serious exhaust changes.

@@RonsWorkshop I absolutely love it, but I'm the sort of person that needs to learn and control everything with the bike, the power vision allows this. If people just want something to flash and forget it's probably overkill.

I like to be able to make changes and adjust as needed - I’ll check that one out.

I've got a 2020 street bob with a LA Choppers K&N, stock exhaust with the cats cut out and a dynojet tuner. I just installed the intake and tuner this week. According to the tuner, I'm getting roughly 43 mpg. I'll have to do some actual math. The stock computer says I get 180 miles from a tank. That works out to 50+ mpg.

2020 FLHP 114 engine, SE8-462, SE breather, Rinehart slim line catalyst full exhaust, SE Tuner: overall average mpg 37.6, range 30.15 to 48.13. The 48.13 was in the mountains at altitude. I had the breather and exhaust installed when I bought the bike before I picked it up, so I don’t know what stock mpg is. The cam was put in at 1000 miles with no change in mpg. I’m thinking about switching to a 447 cam; sticking with SE for warranty. 6 gallon tank, 16,382 at time of post

Hi Paul - Thank you for the kind words! For parts and labor the Stage III kit was about $5300, which included the intake and slip-ons.

@@RonsWorkshop I have 2020 m8 softail low rider s n it has stage 2 now with HD. Nothing special n just hd parts that included with S2. I was thinking to go with s3. The current mpg not satisfying as I can only achieve 145 miles on 5gal full tank.

It’s worth considering stage IV also - if I had it to do over I’d probably do that or the 128 kit, or something from Kevin Baxter. But your mileage won’t improve, that’s for sure!

With a Stage 2, s&s slash cut slip ons, SE heavy breather air cleaner: I travel 82 miles a day and I have 2 bars left over at end of day. I'm going to assume I get about 40 mpg

I feel like it did make a difference, but I don’t have anything solid to base that one other than the “butt dyno”. I may be wrong, but they definitely don’t hurt and I like they they are heavier than the stock wires.
