The internet is a small world. You were a teacher of mine 15 years ago, and your video pops up in my feed. I don't have a hole in my door right now, but your fix looks great!
We were destined to connect again Nathan. I certainly remember you.
Good that the main important part of how to prep the hole for repair like cutting the extra debris away, what to actually do, what not to leave there, how far out to cut from the initial damage, etc.... all that sped up to make room for silly movie clips to be put in to a door repair video
I’ve seen a few vids on this issue and this is HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE the rest. I esp appreciate the wacky interjections which help liven up an otherwise boring repair. I APPRECIATE YOUR EFFORT and vid making intelligence!!
T Sirtosky, thank you tons for both taking time to watch my video, as well as composing a thoughtful and kind comment. I really do appreciate it. You can imagine making these things takes time and lots of effort. It is nice to know that my work is being valued. I don't make $$ from these. I just want to make sure they are relevant and fun at the same time. Cheers.
excellent fix for cheap doors. the only thing I hate worse than cheap hollow doors is trying to replace them because have to replace the entire frame. replacing just the door NEVER works.
thanks!
Ty, so true. It is SUCH a headache and takes a ton of time to pull the trim (with care to not damage the paint), remove the frame and put a new one in. Of course you can just buy a door to replace, but then you also have to route out the hinge locations, cut the door holes...Not to mention all the painting of the entire door AND the frame, and touching up the trim. Of course it can all be done, but those are hours of work and specialized tools in many cases.
I hope this saves you some time.
Thanks for taking time to leave a comment. Please follow for more helpful videos.
Great sequence of steps and easy to follow. Bondo is remarkable once you get used to it. Consider masking off the immediate area next to the hole with frog tape. You won’t have to do so much razor blade scraping.
Dave, great suggestion. Thanks for taking time to add this to the conversation.
Can’t tell you how many times I’ve got that foam on my hands. It’s nearly impossible to get off, So now I always wear latex gloves when working with that and polyurethane adhesives.
Thanks for adding that. I do hate when that foam touches ANYTHING but it’s intended target.
Thanks dude, this is exactly what I needed.
Glad I could help, brother!
I know how to repair my door now. I don’t have to look for someone to do it for me. Thank you so much!
Suze, fantastic! I'm very gratified that this help you out. I'd love to hear about your process and result when you are done.
@@diywithconfidence will let you know for sure. Thank you!
Thanks Jared! Now my door at home is looking good as new!
That does not give you permission to allow your sister's friends to damage it again...
This was very helpful for me to do this myself! Thanks!
Fantastic! I’m really glad to hear that. Thank you for taking time to report back.
This is genius!!! I have several doors that could use this nifty trick thank you for sharing!
MyLove2Create, Thanks for the feedback. Are you going to take it on? Post some picture of the results on your blog and share the link for us.
@@diywithconfidence to be seen since we have a lot to say to your girlfrien any more details and you are very cute littl thinkdon't Ie boy 🤔
WOW. Is all I can say. A competent dude just giving us the straight facts we need. I see good stuff. I hit subscribe. Thank you so much!
B Razz, thank you for taking time to leave a comment.
Love this! Feeling confident allready!
Tuhin Chowdhury, thanks so much for the feedback, brother. Glad your confidence is increasing. ;-)
I thumbed up for smart use of hardener. I've watched videos where they used a ridiculous amount of hardener
Thanks, Richard. I appreciate it.
Do you mean they slap it on real thick and leave a huge bump? I have certainly seen lots of that on wall repairs too.
The Bondo that you use for the hole in the door where do I buy that little tube? Does that come with the Bondo? That’s
Yes. The hardener will come with the rest of the Bondo. It will be a big can and a small tube.
You think you would of filled the two deep scratches on the right while you had the filler mixed
Your very detailed. Very informative. 👍🏿
Thanks, Walter, for taking the time to leave a comment. And thanks for the feedback. It means a lot.
Great video
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Fantastic. Thank you!
d1nyc, seriously I appreciate the appreciation. I also recognize and revere the stache.
Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching and taking time to comment.
Be sure and put newspaper or plastic down over your carpet if you use it as a workstation....
Great addition. Unless one is wanting to make a video about carpet repair... ; -)
I am a new subscriber to your channel.
Suze, thanks so much for subscribing. I appreciate your support. If you think of anything useful I can illustrate for you, please let me know.
It's great information and truly funny too! Love the added video clips!
Amanda, thanks so much for taking time to comment. And thanks for the feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Do you have any DIY projects you would like to see?
I have a question I had a towel hook that ripped out of the door would the spray foam be strong enough to reattach The hook after the repair?
This might be an alternative...

Mike, I made a small video in reply to your question and showed an alternative idea. Take a look here:

Adam, thanks for the link.
I also made a reply here.

Hi, thank you for this video. What kind of white paint I should use on the builder's level white door?
Generally on doors and trim you use a semi gloss or you can use a gloss - if its existing try to match it. The higher gloss paints have more enamel so are harder and can withstand more abrasion than flat, eggshell, and satin.
Great reply, Meckjoo. Thanks for the intel. I agree.
I don't know just me but I originally had in my head this was Steve O!
Dude?! Please….Steve-O has WAY more hair than I do. 😜
And I’d like to suppose I’m much more cautious than #Steve-O I repair holes. He makes them.
Hello sir I have similar kind of door with the pattern and yesterday i saw a miner dent on it like a spoon size pressed inside it's not even coming out it it's back place what I can do
Pooja, dents are interesting and frustrating! Unfortunately you may need to make a bit more damage to make it good again. It’s hard to say without seeing it. Were I in your position I might try making a small hole in the center (leave enough to put an L-shaped Allen key in) and try pulling it back into place. I would still fill the vacant spot through the hole with foam as it will almost certainly want to return to dent shape. Then patch the small hole.
Conversely I would cut out the dent as though it really were a hole and follow the instructions in the video.
I hope that helps. I wish you success.
great video drop the movie clips though
Disagree
Excellent!
JK, thanks for taking time to comment. Seriously I appreciate it.
Couldn't use this video because I didn't have time to leave the foam to set, but I liked it because if the editing. XDXDXDXD
Thank Elijah, for the comment. So I’m curious what did you opt to do then?
@@diywithconfidence Well, it turns out I had EXACTLY the perfect amount of time to do it, and now, my mom and sister have their door back, sans hole and with pink paint on one side, thx very much :DDDD
Fantastic, Elijah. Super glad it worked for you. How long did it end up taking you after all?
Why bondo over wood filer
See my reply on the other comment.
Theres NO way bondo will hold up with that door stop still installed
And yet…. still standing with no cracking. I just looked at it after reading your comment. Looks GREAT!! 😀
Remember I changed the profile in the video too. It hits on the rectangle side rather than the circle side now. And I added a second to increase surface space.
It’s all good.
I know for a fact that spray foam will spread that hollow door skin if you spray to much foam. The card board liners prevent the foam from expanding through the interior of the panel. This is dangerous because once you do this there is no fix for a pregnant door.
"Pregnant door" : -)
True story, you should never try to fill the door. The nice part is that if you have a hole you are spraying this into there is room for the foam to escape back out. I have done this dozens of times and not once have I had it pop the panel off the door.
Happy repairing, David.
just mix up some hot mud
Chente, not a bad option. Hot mud can also be mixed in small batches.
For those who don't know what hot mud is, it is a chemically dried drywall mud. It shrinks less than traditional drywall mud and dries SUPER hard. Just be aware this can create a sanding challenge. So make sure your application is thin and flat. Additionally it may help to prime the surface around the repair area with Kilz as hot mud (it does get hot) can potentially burn through latex paint. Additionally the aggressive sanding on the edges of the repair may "eat up" the latex paint.
@@diywithconfidence ok now u sound a bit crazy with the burning of latex paint. Hot mud is named for some heat generated after mixing your pan gets warm after a bit and also that it goes off and dries faster then regular mud. As so to git r done. As far as standing is concerned if you know what your doing and know your product with moist sponge at the right time you shouldn't ever have to send. I've been finishing for 30 yrs and I never have to sand and I'm TOP SHELF as it gets. Good video though

Natural wood? Lol yeah right
Right?! ;-) "Natural" wood.
Thank you so much!
Showercurtainyo, you’re very welcome. Thanks for taking time to watch and leave a comment.
Why bondo over wood filer
Matt Ryan, thanks for asking. Bondo over the foam filler because the vacant hole in the door is WAY too large to fill with Bondo. It will have nothing to hold to, and it is too viscous-it will fall right into the door space.
Bondo is excellent to fill in and even out, but poor in open gaps. Think of how when it’s used on a car bumper or boat if there is too large of a gap one backs and fills with fiberglass. Same idea here. (The fiberglass also creates rigidity and strength.)
I hope that helps. Thanks again for the question.
