As a Turkish, I recommend you to try Turkish Food. I guarantee you that you will find one Dish that you will fall in love with.
Bilge Nur Yüksel I worked in a Turkish restaurant one summer and I fell in love with the cuisine. Now my kitchen isn’t complete without red pepper paste!
I recommend it too 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
I can't go to Turkey and not have a Iskender or Beyti kebab
I would like to say that it has been near impossible for me to find a Turkish dish that I don’t love.
America: "You can't trust someone who orders a steak well done. What else are they getting wrong?"
t'rump: "Hold my ketchup.
Watching Ugly Delicious is a mandatory experience. Watching someone challenging almost religious-like conventions such as food would do everyone well.
If it was vegeterian/vegan, I'd watch it. We have a global warming crisis and we make shows about meat. Amazing!
leavingharvard yes yes yes... I watched it on Netflix and it is must for a foodie. I really like him. I like when he did the delivery for Dominoes... he was hating that....
@@LuqaS15 Get over yourself.
In Germany, Döner is the most common "vertical meat" - bless the immigrants who brought it! 😻😋
eigensinn83 Germany and Turkey have had a connection for years and years. I’m not surprised!
The german slaves were the most sought after in ottoman empire.
And migrant workers from turkey are the most numerous in Germany today.
@@CoronaVirus-fu3zl Man. This was about food. 🙄
Food brings us together ❤️
eigensinn83 thats just history though? I dont think it was meant to create division
David Chang! As a Turkish person, but living in Seoul, I’ve got so happy hearing that you recommend Istanbul for delicious meat. You really have a good taste 👏I have to admit I love 하누 in Korea as well😊
Yup as a neutral .. I've had Turkish doner and Lebanese one and the flavour on the Turkish one is hands down amazing.. The Iskander is my favourite dish
Usman Aslam does a turkey burger count?
So glad Ugly Delicious Season 2 is coming out. What a fantastic food show.
Soren I’ve been waiting and was so pleased to discover it was out
Can't wait to see this new season! Loved season one and season two looks so fun, love the episode guests too!
I love his show!!! Congrats on another season. Hope you bring us more
David Chang and I are meat-soulmates. Vertical meats, medium rare steaks, and tacos al pastor! :)
One could say, you are soulmeats.
@@louis-philip Dammit, why didn't I think of that. :D
His son loves avocado, so he will literally be like "an avocado, thanks!"
Istanbul Doner is awesome! - Fun Fact Doner actually means 'turning' in Turkish. Peace out David
I love David Chang's shows on Netflix. He seems like an amazing human.
Living as a vegetarian in the city of vertical meats
Soooo were you the one that gave this episode a thumbs down? ;))
Sandy Trunks hahahaha no, I like David & I’d never 👎🏻 Stephen
Falafel are great! It's not all about the (vertical) meats :P
At least there's çiğ köfte!
Went to Bang Bar for the first time the other day in the Time Warner center, and can't rave enough about the chicken Bang!
Colbert's manager James "Babydoll" Dixon likes hockey puck steaks.
Vertical meat is such a pleasant word until you realise it definitely has a urban dictionary entry!
Yep, imagine Turkish vertical meat restaurant just explode in the U.S. and everyone keeps saying 'this vertical meat got my meat vertical', not very pleasent.
I have no idea who this guy is, but for some reason I would be happy to hear him talk about food more.
What? Colbert never had el pastor tacos?
If we ever meet, I'll take you to some. Even have a tlayuda.
Tlayudas forever
Man’s got taste, what can I say 😉
The vertical rotisserie was invented in the 19th-century Ottoman Empire, and doner kebab inspired similar dishes such as the Arab shawarma, Greek gyros, and Mexican al pastor.
Döner can be street food too but when it's intricately done by a master as cuisine food, it can be out of this world. There is a massive difference between the high end and bottom.
Eat plants, love animals, know peace. 🌱💚☮
as a turkish man I can confidently say you are both very much welcomed to visit and eat meat in whatever axis you want!
Great guy!!
4:05 • .what .else .are .they .getting .wrong 😬
I never liked steak until my sophomore year in highschool when my friend’s stepdad had me try a medium rare steak he just grilled. After that, that is how I always do my steak. It’s ugly delicious! If you ask any well known chef how they eat their steak, it’s always medium rare.
this guy is a genius !!!
Hockey puck steak eater is definitely James "Babydoll" Dixon!!
I'm now craving bao.
Stephen not even knowing what a al pastor taco is is simply wrong. C'mon bro get in on them tacos!!
But chef is right. America def needs more vertical meats and I never even considered it. But after going to Mexico City the last 2 year's, my god we need them here at any local restaurant!
How do you dry-age meat?
Don't go to the White House, then... Or you'll see that steak cooked to shoe leather, and slathered in ketchup.
Not if you're on a sports team. Strictly fast food served cold on the wrappers.
Certain cuts of beef are, in my opinion, better well done. Specifically round steaks, which are generally tougher than bootleather anyways. Well done is usually too much for anything *but* round steak though.
If it's tougher than boot leather - the round steak or whatever the cut is - should only be stewed or slow-cooked.
Aferin. Dönerin hakkını vermiş eleman
Yah I'm a cook, and when someone orders a well done steak it's kinda like... What a waste
@King Peppy lol. Seniors seem to like everything well done..
I can respect this but I just can't enjoy meat that isn't done. Don't hit me please. Diff'rent strokes!
Artemis same here man, the boys in the kitchen will judge you harshly if you order it well...
Let me know where your restaurant is so I can make sure I don't go there.
Wow that analogy lmao
Now I’m thinking shawarma for lunch.
One cannot separate the Döner from the Turkish but you also cannot separate it from Germany. There may be a sort of pizza-effect going on with it. I would argue that the Döner became what it is today only through the clash of cultures in Germany. The "ö" umlaut is difficult for native English speakers. You may simply pronounce it as an "o" but please put the stress on the "o" and not on the "e".
Cool that a guy who was on Worth It is now on Colbert. He's a funny chap.
Naruto popularized ramen, David Chang made it palatable.
if i dont like the taste of raw meat, why is that anyone else's problem? i end up ordering medium because people are so judgey but i like well done better.
Chicken nugget universal truth my manz
Medium rare is the best! With a rib eye steak or filet minion the meat OmG so good! Ok getting dressed now and going out!
I got sick with medium rare steak, so I can't eat that. It has to be well done.
Shawarmarby's. We have the vertical meats.
Chicken nuggets... and fries
Due to colonisation or other factors related to perceived European superiority , the notion that European food, specifically French and Italian food has been vaulted to being the "perfect" , gold standard food in terms of taste and preparation. But if you come from countries where the food is much more , flavourful, they usually find those perfect dishes boring AF. Just another situation a certain race of people like to lord it up on the rest of the world.
He’s right about this one
I'm partial to a rare reverse seared steak with an over-easy fried egg and fresh ground pepper on top with a baked potato and some blanched kale.
I fucked some steak up one time and I forever cringe when I think about it to this day.
Speaking of judging people based on what they eat, Stephen has never had an al pastor taco?!?!
I don't know why but there's something in David's voice that reminds me of something in Andrew Yang's voice. Like a weird lowness and the way they inflect on certain words.
Argentinians vertically grill meat, too...delicious!
Yeah it spread around the south america with the arrival of immigrant from the Ottoman empire.
Hello
But not Constantinople.. It's been a long time gone.
Thanks... now that song will be in my head for the next couple of days.
No mention of the gyro? Just a passing mention of the Greeks? A gyro shop in a mall food court was my first exposure decades ago, where seeing the vertical meat rotating got my attention, and I decided to give it a shot.
That's Turkish doner
as bayrakları as as as !1!!! 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷
Dohneyer? Who the hell pronounces it Dohneyer?
It's not Doener, either. It's Donna or Durner in Germany, where it was invented (by Turks).
in Halifax NS Canada it is said that way - it is the official food (donair)
This is the first time I've seen him where he doesn't look high af
Where I grew up babies eat fish tacos! Lol
Ramona Ray would that be in a ghetto?
I agree. The best meat is meat that stands at attention.
Cool
Can you please teach my kids to like chicken nuggets?
👍
I suspect the reason Trump likes his steak well-done, is due to the fact that he doesn't frequently eat from places that serve good (or any) steak, e.g. McDonald's, KFC, etc. Perhaps that's why Trump steaks went under :P
Pastor Tacos? TACOS AL PASTOR ¡¡¡¡
I need to try it.
yokmu asan???
Tacos de Pastor for the win!
I just watched “As the Meat Turns” and it made me upset. Just like what Annisa said, “I think when ethnic identity gets lost then it becomes a bit of a problem.” Armenian cuisine is very much of a player of Middle Eastern cuisine, it was mentioned throughout the episode, but never talked about? What happened to all the Armenians in the Middle East? If the genocide never occurred, would have Armenia been considered a Middle Eastern country? I don’t think they got lost to Anissa’s point.
Tacos al Pastor are the best in the world!!!
Did he just say “Don-air” ??lol get that German out David DöNER
Donair is a canadian variation ion the vertical meat thing. I'm assuming that's how that pronunciation became predominant in America
Don-air is the Turkish pronunciation
Chicken nuggets: Truth
Wish I can upgrade from instant noodles.
Try indomie my man. But be careful it's addictive noodles on crack!
@UCEtN2RmdQT9FKlt9BdB4SKw Thats what I eat lol. I think I ate it too much. Gotta find some other way to eat them.
@@R14iify LOL I just had it for lunch with shrimp and cilantro!
Both of them regretted the handshake 😆
CLOSE YOUR NOSTRILS. DC can smell the BO on ants.
شارع الشوارما في الناصره AM I RIGHTTTT
Lol Even teenage kids still like to eat chicken nuggets... As many as mom will allow. Quick tip: if you send your teenager into McDonald's with a $20, don't expect change as ALL of the $20 will be spent on as many chicken nuggets as is possible. 😁
Don’t sleep on SouthEastern michigan for Vertical meats!
I love my steak just well done, just a slight bit of pink. I cannot stand the blood dripping from a rare steak. Ick. I do love avocado. And I love Middle East food, vertical meat! And tagine cooking. Yum.
Sandra Nelson slight pink sounds like medium well?
Vertical meat is the best.
Plant based to help future generations not have to live on a flooded planet. Too late for Bangladesh and too many other place already. Let's be the change the planet needs.
Beirut Lebanon is the best shawarma place to taste 😎
yeah, people from Beirut are mad 😁😡
they actually don't give a rat's ass
뭐야 누구시지
Hmm. I’m pretty liberal but I can’t eat meat that is bleeding. Sorry., it makes me gag. My daughter is also a liberal and she like medium Tate and pork buns, and pork soup dumplings.
I fan on David but he is wrong so wrong. Donner comes from Germany and shawarma comes from Lebanon. So turkey is not the source. In fact they are the source of shish grilled horizontal meat too be honest David should know better.
Doner comes from germany REALLY? HAHZHHSGGSHAHHZHHAXDWHQ
mavi nokta yes it was invented by Turkish immigrants in Berlin.
@@Thebearmre7 it’s late …..but, no.
I’m glad he recommends Turkey but I’ve also heard him on his podcast talk about how he had conversations with western chefs who wanted to open up in Istanbul but knew nothing about it...this is fine but I have to admit if I ever saw a momofuku in Istanbul I’d be fucking pissed off
First!
Medium Rare steaks are the best steaks. If you disagree, just become a vegetarian already, because your aversions are effecting your taste.
The Turkish had the meat in a flat-bread before coming to Germany but only in Germany did the Turkish invent the Döner as we know it today with salad, sauce, onions and all.
Wrong info.
No hate to Arabs but Turkish Doners, or Shawarma as you name it which is ironically also a Turkish name, focuses more on the flavor of the meat, and tries not to hide it. You guys put shitloads of sauce, shitloads of other stuff and basically cannot even taste the meat. I would prefer Turkish ones all day every day, but some people like it the Arab way I guess.
You know you're listening to a food connoisseur and master when you can't relate to their level of frustration over how a particular meat is prepared.
"Home of vertical meats." Tagline for the new make strip club in town. And your favorite doner shop.
Culinary enthusiasts unite
I prefer Greek "Gyros Pita" instead of Turkish "Doener". It disappoints me a bit that David didn't mention or didn't know the Greek "vertical meat".
Maybe he knows but doesn't rate the Greek version.
Don't be too down. He's on this show promoting his show on Netflix. He covers gyros in one of the episodes!
They specifically mention how gyros were influenced by the Turkish döner.
Lmao “i can’t enjoy my steak because of how they order their stake”
I stopped eating well done steak just because of how rediculous people treat you for eating it. Not joking.
SkidMark133 Just requests it medium well. It will satisfy you and get you some respect.
Good old public shaming. Lol.
Chicken Shawarma is better at Beirut buuut Turkish (Meat) Doner is the best in the world
My guy, it’s ‘çevirme’. Just a mispronunciation of the Turkish word. Honestly it’s the same thing as ‘döner’. They both refer to spinning about in meat glory.
meat is murder mofos
His discovery about being wrong about who eats well done steak is exactly how I discovered how easy it is to be racist.
funny. I can't enjoy my food when someone is eating a dead animal
Well done steak is the best. If a steak is still red inside I send it back. I'm not a wild animal, no raw meat for me.
Vee Macks : Ditto. Especially after I watched a documentary on Food Parasites (there’s one that lives in someone brain from eating raw or rare steak).
@@SpaceForceCommander I'm waiting for someone to comment "you have to try it rare, it's the best". Some people eat cockroaches too. I won't be ever trying them just like I won't be trying uncooked steak.
Vee Macks : It’s good to know that someone else feels the same as I do. I eat my steak medium-well. Steak Tartare is disgusting, I’m not even remotely curious what it tastes like. I feel revulsion when I see it on TV.
Rare.... freaking YUCKKK!!!!! I'm low key offended at this steak revelation lol.... I don't want to eat chewy meat or meat that has to come with an advisory that it might get me very sick if I orderit less than cooked (*)... That's crazy.
Looking at how slammed a kitchen is I'll go rare. They are likely going to overcook it in their business so I will get medium rare :D
taurusDIVA1979 rare is only eaten by crazy people
Generally the higher quality the meat, the less cooked you can have it. Ain't no rare tacos in Los Angeles. You get a taco, you want it cooked through. A cheap diner steak, medium to medium well depending on how much you trust the place. A $50 steak, medium rare. A $150 steak? You can go rare.
