Hello guys, if anyone's wondering why the glossy msi coating didn't look much that better than asus's matte coating it's because ambient light inadvertedly activates the qdcc layer inside the qd oled panel due to the lack of polarizer, so the black level is raised quite a bit more compared to the woled. There's an awesome video from tftcentral if you guys want to know more.

And thank you for not being obnoxiously over the top and just being calm and down to Earth. It makes for a much better better watching experience.
I read a while back, that if you deactivate windows clear type it becomes much better. Clear type optimizes for a specific pixel layout which results in worse than standard text with OLED
@@Techfanatic73 That is just bs. Mac has the same issues with text clarity on 1440p. If you have a 4k oled panel, the issue isn't as noticable, both on Mac and Windows.
The problem on windows is that individual applications are able to do their own layout engine (idk what the name is), so even if Microsoft were to make windows better at handling non-standard pixel layouts, you can still run into issues with programs like chrome, photoshop etc. It would be a step in the right direction though.
I bought an AW3423DWF a few months ago and it's totally blown my mind. It was my first real premium monitor. I didn't realize how good HDR was and combined with OLED and ultrawide, it's such an insanely huge overall system upgrade.
The black is grey because Samsung doesn't have a polarizer layer in them(LG do). Same story with last years Samsung qd-oled panels (alienware aw3423dw for example) and with this latest gen panel too, already confirmed by HUB.
Who cares, if you buy OLED to use in a bright room, then you are better off with LCD anyway. OLED is for dim or dark room usage and it will wipe the floor with LCD here. QD-OLED has 3 times the colorvolume in RGB subpixels than WOLED, yet even WOLED shites on LCD.
the fact that we can have it all. QD-OLED colors, ULMB2 like motion clarity. 360Hz optimal refresh rate for a bunch of games. Glossy coating for more sensitive matte users. It’s just ENDGAME in really every way.
Don't forgot it being 1440p at 27 inch. 27 is still fine for comp games and the size also offers good ppi while also being big enough to appreciate 1440p resolution

After watching your video about the ASUS OLED I bought it and I have been playing on it for quite some time and I gotta say that I am still amazed about colours and Visuals. Especially in Esport games ur game just feels really clear
Holy moly did I just hear 480? Man that’s great - refresh rates are getting so fast it’s almost like they’re “done” with that performance metric and can start prioritizing innovation of other features to keep bumping up the overall quality.
This might be the first time I have ever seen a live side by side being ran on a non oled and an oled for comparison. Usually never cared that much about the hype, but this is the first time I actually gained a bit of an appreciation for what oled can do for those really dark areas. Well done man :)
Mine too, if warranty checks out because ultimately it's still OLED and if you intend to realistically use the 360hz most of the time, it means you are playing multiplayer FPS games with HUD (CS2/Valorant/OW2 etc.) for multiple hours a day, and HUD is very likely to cause a burn-in. He mentions how he played Overwatch for 600 hours and no burn-in so far, but if you want to play, let's say, 4 hours a day, 600 hours is not even half a year, it's kind of meaningless. With Alienware's 3-year warranty it's decent, but it's still quite expensive compared to LCDs as most people wouldn't want to replace their ~$1000 product within 3 years. It's a sick product, but it's still quite premium. But if you have money and aren't bothered with replacements via warranty it's godlike for sure.
@@TheCabIe I have just bought this screen due to the reviews. The burn-in issue today is not a worry. I have had three OLED TVs since the 4K tech has been around. My LG B7 was stunning. But suffered from really bad burn-in. The Panasonic HZ1000 had no problems at all. I have that TV running still. With family on you tube and icons on TV channels, its 5 years old now and no burn-in to be seen. I then bought and still have an LG G2 WOLED. Two years old now, and no issues. Xbox SX and PS5 have not harmed this screen. It's due to the extra pixel they have added. There were 3 colours but now there is 4. Plus, an heatsink on the panel. Burn-in on OLED TV's is not like on and old CRT. It just a pixel being driven harder than the others. Red and yellow OLED colour was a massive problem. The colour is harder to drive. But with the extra white pixel, the problem is now mute. LG give a 5-year warranty on its TV panels. Don't worry about burn-in. Watch HDTV Test. Vincent put a 50% white square in HDR and leaves it for 4 hours. It marks the screen with image retention, but he runs the pixel cleaner, and it goes. Enjoy your OLED screens. BTW on my G2 TV I also have logo dimming turned off. No problems after nearly two years.
Awesome video! Just ordered my AW2725DF! It’s my dream monitor mainly for the glossy display and near perfect sRGB color calibration so I can play Halo 3 the way it was meant to. I have to disagree on matte vs glossy when web browsing though. I’ve had the LG 27GR95QE for a year now and in a dark room the matte finish kinda destroys the crystal clear quality of whites vs a glossy panel.
I’d really love to have you do one of these for the best 4K OLED screen. I understand why you prefer the crazy refresh rates of lower res monitors, but us 4K people need some love too 🥺
and it is easier to double the resolution than double the fps. and scaling down resolution work much batter than lowering fps. so we really need 4k 480hz soon, frame gen starts at 200fps i would say, so you need 400hz display to get those extra frames.
There are no reasonably sized (non-productivity) 4k oled monitors currently available. He'll review the upcoming 32" 4K oled monitors closer to launch.
I'm hoping the same too, I had a quick look at the market and there's almost nothing in the 32-34" space, it's all 40+ inches. 4K at 32-34" size would be nice but I'd be happy enough with my current 1440p. There's a Philips and Samsung model, and an upcoming MSI, but they're all 3440x1440 ultrawides for some reason
As soon as they start releasing budget oled monitors, then it will start making a lot of sense because the risk of burn it will then highly be worth it considering the value you get in return, and if you do ever need to replace it the price will finally be in the range where it wont be hard to accept.
@@sermerlin1 No they don't. Lol. Gamers maybe. Most people don't even replace their computer every 3-4 years. Especially if it's a desktop thats powerful.
OLED monitors are absolutely beautiful but I’m too worried about burn in to buy one. It’s a pretty large investment so I really wouldn't want to be purchasing a new one for a really long time.
Yeah exactly. An endgame monitor like that you'd ideally want 5 years with, minimum. Minimum. And the warranties covering 2 years is a bit concerning because that means they know failures jump up after that time frame for the average user
@@richardcheese9152 This is exactly why I'm so conflicted. OLED TVs have been around for a while now, but the Windows interface always displays. Also, there are far less 1440p 240hz IPS options which pushes you towards OLED.
Need to disable static taskbar and enable a short sleep setting. Not sure if pixel orbit is still a thing but could do that too. And make a habit of closing blinds and turning down the brightness. Should be okay if u do those things

Burn in is getting mostly solved, can't wait to see prices on these fall to the point where I can consider a 2nd OLED monitor in the glossy option. Then I can see for myself wether it even matters, but in my experience matte is more than fine.
This is why QD OLEDs suck in anything but a dark room. Have had my fair share of experience w/ them & side by side its a night & day difference in black levels compared to a WOLED. QD OLED contrast is even worse than VA in an average lit room.
Thanks for letting us know about the announcement. I will patiently wait to go broke on a 480 OLED in the future and keep my ViewSonic XG2431 for now XD
THIS is what I've been waiting for! I've been rocking a really nice Alienware IPS monitor for about 4 years now just waiting for OLED gaming monitor technology to mature to this point. I can't wait to try one out!!!!
I can't wait for your reviews. I want a 360 or even 480hx oled 1440p monitor but : - I am still concerned by color fringing on text (LG vs Samsung panel comparison expected) - I am concerned by the absence of DP2.1 as those monitors should be "future proof"
What you want to look for there is subpixel layout, I believe monitors in Q2 and beyond will fix this by shuffling subpixels around e.g. RWGB (or something or other) to RGBW or whatever. Point is they address this later on in the year As for your second point, DP is still sufficient depending on your use case (console gamer?) and an argument about throughput is made e.g. 2.0 is perfectly sufficient, forget the exact details
dp 1.4 + dsc is perfectly capable of doing 480hz 1440p 10bit color without any perceptible difference... also... the latest 4090 does NOT have DP 2.1... so it would be useless anyways! the color fringing I agree tho... Also... the BIGGEST concern with Oleds is their real desktop usage brightness... which has been lacking.
Could you notice the difference in colours between the older WOLED and this new qd-oled? Apparently the qd-oleds produce much richer colours, especially reds and greens compared to other oleds. Although some people might call it oversaturated.
The new QD-OLEDs will be able to come curved or flat, matte or gloss with anti-reflective coating and even the inputs will change per model/brand on the 27" and 32", with some models even having Dolby Vision (Only the 32" it seems, and only some models). I'm looking at the HP Omen or the Gigabyte for the 32" as they have DisplayPort 2.1 (the Gigabyte having full DisplayPort 2.1), though the 32" are stuck at 240hz. The QD-OLED need a good anti-reflective coating because unlike the LG Panels, there is no polarizer. To be honest, I was hoping the panels this year would have Phosphorescent Blue OLEDs, which would allow them to be brighter and run longer with more stability, but it looks like they're not ready for this year.
Plenty of people still playing overwatch. They just don't comment, because usually people only want to comment when things are negative. It's awesome to see OLED tech climbing so fast, and glossy coatings. Once we start getting into the 40+ inch sizing, and 4k, count me in. Loving my 42" LG C2, no way am I going back in size or resolution, I'm spoiled now after a year. 4090 can run these settings at 220+ frames now in some of the worst optimized games, even on BF2042, so we are definitely there performance wise.

Just copped the ASUS PG27AQDM for 713 USD knowing full well there's a lot of good stuff on the horizon. Weaknesses expected (still shipping): text clarity (subpixel format), poor HD performance (mitigated by firmware updates), HDMI 2.0 (less of a concern, not a console gamer), some ambiguity about burn-in management, and matte vs glossy considerations (which is touched on briefly in this video as being less relevant)
I'd love to see a cheap but good oled monitor round up video this year, couldn't see myself justifying a 480hz screen when all I do is casual valorant... But I really do like oled and would like to get the most bang for my buck
People always say that there isn't much of a difference between 360hz and 240hz but I think it depends on the person's perception sensitivity, because I personally cannot go back. The same thing would happen back then when I upgraded from a 60hz to a mere 75hz, even though it seems like such a small jump it felt extremely significant. I get that as the number increases there are diminishing returns, but I have yet to personally feel any of that yet, I suppose that's only when we get to more insane refresh rates.
The greatest thing about these insanely high refresh rate OLED displays is we're going to see 120hz OLED displays be marketed and sold at an affordable price next year.
I got the LG Oled monitor you previously reviewed about two months ago now and I have to say I’m honestly upset with how bad the pixel burn in is near the center of the screen already. I’ve used the pixel cleaning features quit a bit as well, it sucks how quickly it dies out for how expensive it is.
That’s why u should NEVER buy ANY product based on a UA-cam channel’s recommendation. These guys get sent free stuff and get paid 5, sometimes 6 figure checks to shill products on their channel. Even when you think they’re being “transparent”, they’ll never rate any product in a negative light if they’re getting paid for it. It’s better to wait for the product to release and get real-world opinions from actual users and not just people on UA-cam.
This is one of the main reasons, I will never buy an OLED monitor. I don’t want to pay a premium price and then having to worry about it when using it like a normal PC monitor. For example, many people use their PC for desktop usage or leave their PC on for many hours and that’s gonna be a problem with OLED. to me, it’s like having a sports car but you gotta be wary of not revving up otherwise it might break I hope you will get that burn in sorted soon man!
I have had the same monitor but only for about a month so this is quite worrying to hear. The other thing that bothers me in this video is that he says there's virtually no difference between the matte and glossy coating when in reality the matte coating has quite a horrible grainy look on white or near white images that I'm sure moving to glossy would solve. Bit of a hit to his recommendations for me unfortunately. Also, no reviewers seem to say/care much about just how bad the dirty screen effect is on darker grey images. I had to return my first one because it was disgusting. Even my second monitor was only acceptable after running a compensation cycle.
I wonder how long it'll take for ultrawide oleds to go down in price. Would be sick if they dropped to ~500 or something like that in the next year or two
2 Big Oled complaints from me 1 Gysnc gamma flicker - solved by not using gsync which you can turn off on a per game basis. Some games are worse than others 2 HDR - HDR seems cool at first until you notice that there's always something off about the image. PC HDR is a mess and there's a deep rabbit hole to go down using tools like reshade lilium and special k just to fix HDR. A channel called "plasma tv for gaming" goes into the issues and how to fix them. But that's the point, it's not something that will just work perfectly so don't buy an oled assuming hdr gaming will just work and be so cool out of the box. Even considering those two things AND the text clarity issue, I still absolutely love my asus 240 oled. All genre of games and even coding are fantastic on it. I'll never go back.
I thought I wasn't able to use a 27 inch OLED but when I got it I adjusted to it it's alot easier on the eyes than my various 24 inch LCD panels I owned.
@@manicniceguy2341 I'd love to get 27", but the issue for me is desk space, I run triple monitors, and with speakers on the desk too I doubt I'd be able to fit 3 27" monitors comfortably. With 3 24" my speakers are slightly hanging off the desk.

Using a single monitor setup for both work and gaming, the crappy sub pixel layout is an absolute show stopper for my use-case. Very happy to hear that this still hasn't changed on the new models (and maybe never will as it's an OLED thing?) so I don't need to fomo into them and can happily continue using my AQN as the jack of all trades that it truly is.
Yes, the text problem remains but on the new 4k 240hz monitors the text situation is much better and that's why I'm sitting here thinking whether to get the AQN or the new 4k oled, because text quality is important to me too (a lot of work on pc).
The weird subpixel layout and strong text chromatic aberration is a deal breaker for me. Actually the lack of true blacks in bright environments from QD-OLED is a deal breaker. Thanks for highlighting the flaws in the panel tech. Why can't they make a desktop AMOLED monitor? Our amoled phone screens are nigh on perfect, just scale that up to desktop size.
2:28 240hz looks better and cryspier to me and it has less ghosting , so just use 240hz with this monitor coz it works better with it , i think this panel not supposed to work at 360 but they pushed it to its limits :)
I'm using a 32" 240Hz G7. hard to go back to 27" no matter how good it looks, it's essentially a medium size monitor vs miniature TV for consuming content and gaming, all while having 240Hz since years ago while people were playing with 27" IPS 165Hz and complaining this whole time.
Im thinking between getting an Asus TUF VG249QM1A(256€), a Dell G2524H(261€), and a Philips 25M2N5200P(280€). Which one is the best and why? Amazing video as always btw
I have to take offense at the widely spread myth if oleds having "infinite" contrast. First off, the glass in front of an oled has refraction and bloom. So if you have a pixel that emits photons, and right next to it one that's off, that off pixel will still be a little brighter due to spill from its neighbor. Second off, even if the glass is glossy, the back of it - where the pixels are, even off - is going to reflect some light. This is much, much worse wuth QDOLED which phosphoresces in normal daylight conditions, even under indoor lighting only. Even if the whole screen is off, a QDOLED standing in a normally lit room will not be perfectly black, it's going to be a very dark tinge of magenta. While you mention this later on, WOLEDs have the same issue to a much lesser extent: nothing absorbs 100% of the light shining on it. Please, do make measurements about this and talk about them rather than talk about "infinite contrast". You do good reporting but this is a major slip up that you need to do better at.
Over 6000 hours on my aw3423dw and i have ZERO burn in. I turn it off daily which auto runs the light refresh. And when it asks for the big refresh when im not in the middle of something important, i let it. And yeah, no burn in. Many hours in world of warcraft. Many hours in windows having movie/tv streaming left side and windowed game right side. Which is more common. And ZERO burn in. BFI on the Asus OLED may be epic, but only if we get full refresh rate BFI....
5:50 The reason QD-OLED has those raised black in bright environment is because the light can enter the monitor and interact with the quantum dots. TFTCentral has a great article about this, testing how big the effect is and whether it matters or not, titled "The OLED Black Depth Lie - When Panel Type and Coating Matters". Short version is that QD-OLED is typically better than all LCD types including VA, but in bright rooms, VA can have deeper blacks than QD-OLED. But then again, if you want impactful blacks, you probably wouldn't sit in a bright room to begin with.
5:50 This! I went to microcenter to look at their QD options & was so surprised when I seen they all had greyed out blacks & a weird purple tint to them bc of the bright environment compared to W-OLED. Ended up leaving with the ASUS PG27AQDM instead. I know they have their own flaws, but at least it’s not picture quality.

I read a while back, that if you deactivate windows clear type it becomes much better. Clear type optimizes for a specific pixel layout which results in worse than standard text with OLED
I think it is also on mac.. 1440p on Mac doesnt look super sharp to begin with. But let me know if you have any sources that state the contrary.
@@tr4nnel752 Completely incorrect. Not an issue on Mac.
If they nail Black Frame Insertion @ 50% refresh on the new 480hz WOLED panels, they'll be the way to go for supreme motion clarity.
This is what I need!
I bought an AW3423DWF a few months ago and it's totally blown my mind. It was my first real premium monitor. I didn't realize how good HDR was and combined with OLED and ultrawide, it's such an insanely huge overall system upgrade.

OLED
literally my dream monitor
I have LG 27GR95QE-B and I couldn’t be happier. Just amazing quality.
It’s a wonderful monitor! Had mine since last January and it’s been flawless.
Now this is the reviewer I was waiting for!

People usually replace monitors in 3-4 years and using it daily for 4-5 hours will get burn in after 3-4 years with these current oled technologies.
You’ll be waiting YEARS for OLED monitors to reach “budget” pricing.

@@richardcheese9152Alienware offers 3 years if that's any consolation.
Need to disable static taskbar and enable a short sleep setting. Not sure if pixel orbit is still a thing but could do that too. And make a habit of closing blinds and turning down the brightness. Should be okay if u do those things
@@fercon9892 It just doesn’t fill me with confidence that I even have to take these measures (even though I know it’s things I should also probably do with my IPS monitor)
The only thing that prevents me from buying one is the text quality. Apart from that they seem to be an amazing gaming/creative monitor
I can't wait for your reviews. I want a 360 or even 480hx oled 1440p monitor but :
- I am still concerned by color fringing on text (LG vs Samsung panel comparison expected)
- I am concerned by the absence of DP2.1 as those monitors should be "future proof"
What you want to look for there is subpixel layout, I believe monitors in Q2 and beyond will fix this by shuffling subpixels around e.g. RWGB (or something or other) to RGBW or whatever. Point is they address this later on in the year
As for your second point, DP is still sufficient depending on your use case (console gamer?) and an argument about throughput is made e.g.
There will be a gigabyte 240hz 4k oled and probably 360hz 1440p variant with dp2.1 if you really need it. Though it's not needed as dsc works fine
Aorus new OLEDs will have dp 2.1, not sure when they release tho
@redacted1776 i heard only the 4k one has dp2.1
When the price starts coming down on these OLED's I'll def buy one
Could you notice the difference in colours between the older WOLED and this new qd-oled? Apparently the qd-oleds produce much richer colours, especially reds and greens compared to other oleds. Although some people might call it oversaturated.
theres no oversaturation. theres just the outdated extremely limited CRT colorspace "sRGB" holding everyone back.
Unless you have both side by side, I’d say both are good
The new QD-OLEDs will be able to come curved or flat, matte or gloss with anti-reflective coating and even the inputs will change per model/brand on the 27" and 32", with some models even having Dolby Vision (Only the 32" it seems, and only some models).
I'd put "QD-OLED" in the title over just "OLED"
Other than that good video!
The dual mode 32in 4k 240hz/ 1080p 480hz is going to be my top pick.
For anyone who dream to play.. Overwatch 2, at 360fps. All 3 of them.
Plenty of people still playing overwatch. They just don't comment, because usually people only want to comment when things are negative. Thanks for stopping the fomo on the matte vs glossy debate. I'll stick with my woled monitor from last year and enjoy true black day and night.
damn 360hz and oled gotta be something else
I've bought the 240hz oled from LG after CES 2023, now waiting for 240hz 4k 27'' OLED (with dp 2.1, UHBR20) before I will upgrade again. ✌️

For example, many people use their PC for desktop usage or leave their PC on for many hours and that’s gonna be a problem with OLED. to me, it’s like having a sports car but you gotta be wary of not revving up otherwise it might break

I wish they would make them 24.5 inch. I feel that is my sweet spot for gaming.
I wonder how long it'll take for ultrawide oleds to go down in price. Would be sick if they dropped to ~500 or something like that in the next year or two
2 Big Oled complaints from me
1 Gysnc gamma flicker - solved by not using gsync which you can turn off on a per game basis. Some games are worse than others
2 HDR - HDR seems cool at first until you notice that there's always something off about the image.

Our amoled phone screens are nigh on perfect, just scale that up to desktop size.

the Halo-esque sound in this was nice
Let's see if there's any 240hz 2nd hand monitors available for cheap. That'll be my upgrade path.
3:37 this is why I love this channel. He challenges the rules and goes against what the manufacturers tell him to do, if it doesn't make sense.
I'm so excited when a new video comes out, your videos are top quality man
This will be the best year to get a monitor since Freesync and Gsync was introduced.
QD OLED (at least gen 1) should be used without lights. For bright environments the benefit goes away.
Just need a glossy coating option for every oled that will be released in the future. It keeps me up at night knowing that there's premium oled monitors which cost well over a 1000 $ and they still use matte finish. Embarrassing
1440p -> 😐
360hz -> 😐
OLED -> 🤨
Glossy -> 😱
THIS is the monitor I've been waiting for, and I'm sick and tired of waiting for shady ahh Dough to deliver theirs
I think the best part about 360Hz OLEDs releasing is that the 240Hz panels might start to drop a bit more in price! Might be time for me to finally get an upgrade after a long, long time
The irony that we're now getting, what can only be described as, insane hardware at the same time gaming has well and truly hit a brick wall.
Another high quality optimum banger!
