I broke my rice cooker trying to clean it so I used this recipe for the instant pot. Made long grain white rice tonight. Rinsed rice till water ran clear. Exactly 4 cups rice 4 cups water (Pyrex measuring cup). I salted then added about 2 tbsp butter. 6 minutes high pressure then natural release for 5 minutes before manually releasing the remaining pressure. I've never made rice so perfect. This will be my go to for cooking rice. Thanks!! So much faster and better!
Hey Beryl , thank you for having me on ! Any deep pot or pan with a lid works for idlis. It is important to let them steam in a space where steam can get out a bit . Else all the water will condense on the idlis and make them soggy. In India, we use a pressure cooker without the pressure lid clamped on, so the steam can go out. A deep dutch oven with the lid ever so slightly open, should work. Also, the idli should not steam for two long. For small idlis like the ones you have made, 3-4 mins of high steam is good enough. We poke a toothpick to make sure it is cooked through. Happy idli making !
Just so people know, the Rice button actually uses the Instant Pot's internal sensors to judge when to stop cooking the white rice. This makes the Instant Pot more like a rice cooker which also uses sensors to ensure perfectly cooked white rice. So, while you can manually set up your Instant Pot to cook rice according to your preferences, the Rice button takes all of the guesswork out of cooking the white rice like a dedicated rice cooker.
@@gd2091 How much water did you use? In a pressure cooker none, or very little, of the water is being lost to evaporation. She is using 1 to 1, the instructions on rice containers is usually 2 parts water to 1 of rice. Jasmine and basmati usually say 3 water to 2 rice, 1.5 to 1.
Thanks so much for this video! I wanted to get rid of my non-stick rice cooker and was hesitant about cooking perfect rice in my instant pot. I’d seen several different instructions of which I tried, but my rice wasn’t quite the way I liked it. Your method seems foolproof, so I am cooking rice tomorrow. 👍🏾
I find your videos so useful and so very well explained! Thank you! I have made 1/2 cup of basmati rice (with 1/2 cup of water) in the IP mini pot with the pot in pot method (pyrex) and I added 1 cup of water on the bottom. All went well but my water was completely gone from the bottom when I opened the IP mini. So next time I will put 11/2 cup of water in the bottom.
Thanx for your tips on rice cooking. I got this pot a month ago, but was somewhat overwhelmed by the serious safety precautions and never used it. Just cooked long white rice in a nearly perfect way
VIgo Yellow Rice- few people cover this one. I just tried some Vigo. It was "sort of OK". Just used the "Rice" setting. Thanks for the video. 4min.. I am gonna use 3 on some standard, cheap, long grain white rice tonight. With 1 and 1/4 cup water.
What a great video tutorial, you are such a pro at this. Thank you so much for explaining and showing the two ways to do rice. And thank you for sharing your know how with all of us. I just discovered you last you and must say you are quite impressive and I know you will be helping me a lot. Thanks again. Claudia
A great and very helpful video. I've cooked rice twice with mixed results. This video has answered some of my questions and next time I do rice, it will be with more confidence. Thank you!
Thanks for the info. Love your IP videos. I am one of those people who just uses the rice button and I also use the measurements inside the pot for rice. Perfect every time. I have also found that for wild rice (I also make your wild rice soup. Love that!) I just cut the time in half and cook on high pressure.
for some reason when I cook the rice in the inner pot it sticks. So, I do it pot-in-pot. I add a minute and it is fine. Perfect rice or grains without sticking. This past week I’ve done quinoa, black rice and basmati rice. I am not a fan of the rice cup or the rice paddle. I use neither.
I didn't even think of that. I was making some meatballs earlier for lunch and could have cooked my rice in with it. I just used my 3qt pot to cook my rice. Good to know. Thanks
Hi Nili, Thanks for the pot in pot demo; I've been looking for info on that. I have the stacking pots, so I can try it. I just want to say that I have cooked both short grain and long grain, brown rice using the rice setting and it comes out great(for my taste). I don't understand why everyone I've heard, says that the rice setting is ONLY for white rice.
Never had luck with white rice, brown rice or Jasmine rice in my Instant Pot. Almost gave up on rice altogether until I tried basmati rice PIP. Came out absolutely perfect first time. So I make it at least once a week now. I almost always use PIP in my Instant Pot, for easier cleanup and for quickly storing the leftovers in the bowl it was cooked in. (Easier to get every grain out of a bowl than the deep inner pot!) I do this for grits and oatmeal as well because I always want to make enough for leftovers. I would love tips on PIP quinoa and brown rice. Couscous and barley PIP would also be great. I love grains when I have just a little meat/fish or leftover roasted vegetables to use up. I only cook in the inner pot if I need to brown, make soups or large amounts, like greens.
I grew up around Chinese restaurant : ) Ive cook my rice on the stove for a few years now, was thinking about getting a rice cooker but remembered I have the instapot. I tried ur method, it was great! I like that the system counts cooking time at proper temp set, taking 5-6 min and softening the shell. I will be trying brown rice when I get some. Just to see how fast that can be.
is it possible to make super soft, well cooked white rice with soft grains in the MINI Duo? I have severe chronic bowel issues and I can only eat soft rice. I´m looking for a kitchen tool/machine where I can cook soft rice in bulk (300-400g raw weight) I appreciate every tipp or suggestion or a review if the instant pot is a helpful tool for cooking really soft rice without texture but not total mush. thank you very much for your valuable time and help Best regards, Helmut
I find the rice cooked in an insta pot tends to stick to the bottom of the metal pot. Will try your method to see if it comes out better. We don't rinse our rice. Would you show us how to cook brown rice?
So to cook white jasmine rice, you use 2 pyrex measuring cups worth or is it 2 cups, of the small, plastic cup that comes with the IP Mini? And the 2 cups water, that is 2 pyrex cup sizes, then?
Do you turn off the warm mode when cooking 4 or 6 minutes high pressure? On the rice setting for 12 minutes on low mode is the warm mode preset to off? I have the 6qt ultra.
Yes! Broth instead of water is a great option! I've found that I need a little higher liquid to rice ratio than with just water. I would do 1 1/4 cups of broth for every 1 cup of rice 😁
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! If I want to cook 3 cups of long grain white rice in my 6 qt Insta pot, do I need to adjust the time at all? Or is 6 minutes on high still good?
Even if you were just making rice, I don't see any reason you wouldn't do it pot in pot. There's no chance of scorching it and the cleanup is much easier.

I get mushy rice with the Rice function, so im trying this

I'm getting that trivet ASAP. Great video, you went straight to the point.

Very informative. I now know I will be cooking my rice in my Instant Pot!! In fact I'm making my first batch of rice right now! Thanks
Thank you. I'm new to instant pot cooking and this is really helpful.
You're concise to the point and walla you're done.
I have 1st time ever 8 qt insta pot appreciate to the point videos.

I enjoyed your video, just said what needed to be spoken, concise, well done!
nicely done! (and I'm not just referring to the rice ...) -- very informative and useful video!
Great & very helpful video! Thank you. :)
Watching IP videos made me miss my IRL IPs significant "beeeps". Left rice steaming too long.
Thanks for the rice tips!
Thanks & glad you’re back!
Thanks...beautifully explained ♡
Just what I needed for tonight’s dinner. Thank you.
Thank you so much! This was the best I’ve found.
Great video! Thanks for the tips!
You always do a really nice job on your videos. Thank you.
Your amazing! I was looking for a way to cook both rice and meat together. Don't have the funds to get a separate rice cooker. This video helps a lot!
I see that you used wet measuring for the water. Did you use a “dry” measuring cup for the rice?
My rice turned out perfect!🙂
Always enjoy your videos!! Thank you for the tips on rice!
Great video. Thank you for the tips. Rice is a huge part in our lives!
when and how did you set the 4 min? I wonder if my Lux Mini cant adjust pressure cook time....thanx!
Great tips thank you
Dear Indigo,
I really your informational videos, I am.new to this so it is really nice!! You are clear and easy to follow!
Aloha, mililani 😘
Thank you so much for you helpful videos. Love them. I'm going to give this a try. Take care
Very impressive information!

Did you do a brown rice video? I did a search and didn't find one. Thanks for your great IP videos!
Does the time change with the amoubt of rice u put?
is it possible to make super soft, well cooked white rice with soft grains in the MINI Duo?

So great to see this video!! 😊😊. Where did you get the stainless steel bowls?
I find the rice cooked in an insta pot tends to stick to the bottom of the metal pot. Will try your method to see if it comes out better. We don't rinse our rice. Would you show us how to cook brown rice?
Thanks! Great info, Nili......
Will you do a video on brown rice too? Always more of a challenge for me.
Beth Lewis yes‼️good request.
Love your background music.
So to cook white jasmine rice, you use 2 pyrex measuring cups worth or is it 2 cups, of the small, plastic cup that comes with the IP Mini?
And the 2 cups water, that is 2 pyrex cup sizes, then?
The two cups of rice that you added was that measured with the cup that comes up with instant pot or regular measuring cup?
Good question! No, those were regular cup measurements 🙂
I don't think a steamer basket would work here do you?
Thank you.
Where did you get that strainer you rinsed the rice in? I love your videos.
I think it came from Target originally but it was a long time ago! 🙂
Do you turn off the warm mode when cooking 4 or 6 minutes high pressure? On the rice setting for 12 minutes on low mode is the warm mode preset to off? I have the 6qt ultra.
Just what I needed to know.
Ty
Or put it in a regular pot?
Thank you for your tutorial :)
Nili what do you do to get your rice to NOT be sticky I can’t stand a sticky rice thanks !!!
Rinse rice til the water runs clear, usually takes me about 3 min or so.
Great video.Thanks for sharing.....
Thanks for the video. What do you think about using broths instead of water?
Yes! Broth instead of water is a great option! I've found that I need a little higher liquid to rice ratio than with just water. I would do 1 1/4 cups of broth for every 1 cup of rice 😁
Indigo Nili Thank you. I was wondering if there should be an adjustment to the measurements when using broth.
@@IndigoNili and more broth = porridge, don't forget an inch of thinly sliced ginger and some meat pieces like chicken or pork.
Thanks a lot!
What brand rice are you using?
It's Kirkland's... The Costco brand 👌
Wonderful.!
Awesome. Thx
Works for me 🏴
Hi! Thank you so much for this video! If I want to cook 3 cups of long grain white rice in my 6 qt Insta pot, do I need to adjust the time at all? Or is 6 minutes on high still good?
Still 6 minutes ☺️
Even if you were just making rice, I don't see any reason you wouldn't do it pot in pot. There's no chance of scorching it and the cleanup is much easier.
I always do PIP, I always burn if I don't. And so much easier cleaning up.
Is there a way to set the release for 5 minutes?
No, I wish instant pot would add that feature!
My problem has always been the brown rice... :(
I have a trick for that! A video will be coming soon! 😉
