I used to clean for a living. I'm into shortcuts. You will never need to deep clean your liner with this tip: After removing the last of the food, add an inch of water, pop the lid on, and set to cook for one minute. It loosens all the food on the sides of the pot, and makes it so easy to swish around the water, dump it out, and finish cleaning with a soft soapy rag or sponge. Rinse, and replace. Never use metal. Utensils or scrubbers. I never would place it in a dishwasher, because of the harsh chemicals that will ruin the finish on the ss. That's why pots get dull. I bought a second pot recently, so that I can cook two things in one go, and the old one is as shiny as the new. In addition, if you burn something onto the bottom, just add a cup of vinegar, and heat for 5 minutes. Then, use a nylon scrubber. In order not to put the lid in the dishwasher, but get it clean, use a soft brush to get into the nooks and crannies. I've never had to take my pot apart for cleaning. Over 6 years now, and my entire unit looks like new, except that the gasket is dark (and I'm using the original gasket.) I use my pot nearly every day. (Who stores it?)
I am going to try this! I made a Pot Roast on 4th of July. Yesterday I scrubbed and scrubbed to clean the pot. I thought there has to be a better way. Also scraping the bottom of the hot pot with a silicone spatula helps.
@@ChristusLiberumPDX Pretty much. I found that it didn't change odors after it was a few months old. I bought new ones, but haven't bothered changing them. I'm still using the first, and it has no odor. It seldom needs washing. It gets sterilized by steam every time you cook. Food seldom ever gets on the inside of the lid unless I touch it with a dirty spoon. I usually just wipe the outside.Steam cleaning is better than dishwashing water.
Just purchased my first Instant Pot and finding your channel invaluable. I love and learn so much from Angel Lisa! I did discover that cleaning the seal with TOOTH PASTE and a paper towel and then rinsing was the bomb at removing 90% if accumulated smells from the ring. Yay! Rinse well, obviously---smells quite fresh.
I have had some success on removing chili smell from the sealing ring by placing the curled sealing ring into a 1 quart mason, then filled with water, and added 2 denture cleaning tablets. After an overnight soak in this solution the chili smell was reduced by 80%.
@@shawnise311 Order additional sealing rings. The company knows of this limitation, which is why they sell a two-colored set. Orange for savory and blue for sweet and dairy based foods like yogurt. On Amazon, you can buy an off-brand four-pack which adds a clear and a black ring, but I had a bit of trouble with them sealing initially. They seal now, but I'm not the only one who had issues with the 3rd-party rings.
Hi Lisa, to get rid of the after-cook strong smell of the sealing ring, I tried many ways, like rinsing it with hot water, soaking it into hot water with salt for 3 hours, soaking in hot water with baking soda for 3 hours. None of them worked until I put the sealing ring back in the lid, then put a cup of water in the pot with a few bay leaves, and use high pressure to cook for 5 minutes. When done, most of the odour was gone. ( I did not try to wash it with soap because I was afraid that the sealing ring would absorb the odour of the soap and transfer it to the food later.) Please try it and see if it works for you. Instead of bay leaves, a TEA BAG would work the same way. Thanks.
My multi cooker - Ninja Smartlid, has the same issue. I even bought a spare set if seals with the intention of swapping them over depending on what I was cooking. The idea was to use a seal that had been used for savoury food on savoury food, and likewise with sweet foods. And then I forgot - best intentions and all that. However, I'm going to try the Bay leaf thing,
@@ameliarannestiggins2345 Same lol I got a 3 pack of spare rings though, so I still have 2 more chances to get it right. For now, I have 2 chicken-ie smelling rings instead of one. Also, the off brand ring seems to have retained MORE smell, so I'm not sure if that's a quality issue or I just happened to make extra strong chicken broth this time. Definitely going to try the bay leaf and see what I get.
Thank you so much for this video and all of the content you've added to your channel. I bought my instant pot about a month ago and I now can't imagine what I was doing before I had it. Your channel has helped me so much. From cleaning my Instant pot to making easy meals. You are appreciated for what you do. Have a great day!
I store my Instant Pot with the lid just sitting on top but I put a dishtowel between the pot and the lid. Keeps it from sitting on there too tight and allows some airflow.
A soft toothbrush with a dab of soap works great to clean under the rim and around the outside of the lid, too. Mine came with an extra sealing ring, so when it's time to deep clean, I place the used sealing ring in the pot with the baking soda, vinegar and soap, and use the other (clean) sealing ring to close the lid. So each time I deep clean, I swap out the dirty ring for the clean one, and toss the dirty one in with the soap.
I think that is a great tip. I might use that on mine along with a few other clean kitchen gadgets for a month+ storage. I just got my InstaPot so I am using it about 1 or 2 times a week at this time, so it is currently living on my counter.
Thank you 😊 for sharing these tips. Here is one more. I've used this on Tupperware for the last 45 years. Try putting your sealing ring in a zip lock bag with some newspaper. The charcoal print absorbs almost all odors. Some have to be done a second time, like curry. But then you just rinse well.
Here’s an easy way to remove odors from the silicon ring. Cover ring completely with plain old table salt and let set for at least 30 minutes. Any salt will do. Odors will disappear. Ring is not harmed at all.
I feel like every inch of your house is clean and spotless. I just bought my first Instant Pot. It's the 8qt duo which I'm gonna be using for meal prepping. Thanks for this tip.
How do you like it so far? I got mine in May 2020, but just recently started using it. I was scared of it, based on stuff I used to hear, and also because of all the buttons. Lol. But so far I'm liking it. I've only used it 3 times, though.

Love your videos!! My daughter is planning on getting one and I will share your videos with her. I have a Fagor multi pot and the very first thing I made in it was Swiss Steak. I tried EVERYTHING to get the smell out. Vinegar, soaking, peroxide in a bag in the sun, bleach, dishwasher..... I finally got a new ring. Then I tried Clorox Cleanup with Bleach.... I had made bone broth from a turkey carcass for my dogs and the smell was horrible! I was cleaning up all the surfaces and I put the ring in the dishwasher and didn't want my room mate to barf when she open it so I sprayed some on the ring just to deodorize it. It worked!! There is absolutely NO smell - no chemical smell, no food smell, NOTHING!!! So now I have 2 rings that I can use! Happy dance!!!💃🏼

Then I push on the pressure valve to let water run through it while I'm rinsing it. I have put straight vinegar in the lid and moved the silicone ring around to remove smells.

Saw this video before I used my IP, for the first time, (Nov 2021) to make oatmeal. Very helpful! I have dedicated one ring for oatmeal, etc and the other for cabbage/kale/veggies/meat. Per your info, I only hand wash the lid. Plan to try the baking soda/vinegar to reduce odor, even on my dedicated "smelly" ring. Thanks so much!
For cleaning the inside of the pot, the pot you cook in, I use the Bar Keepers Friend, you can get it 2 ways, The soft cleanser ,which you have to shake up well before using, and the powder form. I use the soft cleanser form,.After you've used that, make sure you do a quick wash inside with your dishwashing soap. Comes out looking new all the time. Don't forget to check the clear condensation cup on the side of pot.I clean all of my sealing rings in the dishwasher all the time, hang to dry, and put it back in when it's time to use again. If you have room, store the lid upside down next to the instant pot, so everything gets aired out really good.
Yes! That is what I use. One time I over cooked rice by mistake and it was a disaster but the Bar Keepers Best friend got it off woth a soft microfiber cloth and NO scrubbing. I've used it many times and my liner looks just as good as it does when I bought it.
Thank you for this video. Just got my Instant pot this week and have been experimenting with different soups. But when I made macaroni for a macaroni salad, some starchy sticky weater got trapped around the pot rim. I'l use your tip to cleam this are. So far, so good. 😊

I've recently heard this (I'm very new to the instant pot, so all this is new to me. Lol). I went to Walmart yesterday and looked for some, but they were out. I looked on the Walmart app, and they had a powder cleanser, and a liquid kind. It looked like the liquid kind can be used for cookware, as it mentioned that on the front. The powder cleanser did not. Would one be better than the other for this task? Thank you.
Can you do a video on the new Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid? It fits most 6 QT Instant Pot Pressure cookers. Love your vids. Just started watching them and find them very useful. :)
I'd like one for the IP Max with an Air Fryer lid with the viewing glass such as the Mealthy Crisp Lid. Any tips on cleaning the inside of the pot's heating plate and right under it without disassembling it.
I will do that!! I Cook half lemon in the microwave and it will clean it well as well, I have a lemon tree in my yard so that makes it convenient when it’s lemon season.
Great tips Lisa! I’ve been using the Scrub Daddy for scrubbies. Works on multiple types of surfaces and doesn’t scratch. Hint: Scrub Daddy texture goes from stiff to soft based on cold to hot water temperature, respectively. Last a long time but are pricey.
Great video! I'm new to IP. Question, when washing the lid - should you try to avoid getting the water into the grooves/cracks when washing it under running water? I assume that there will be less water getting into those areas compared to a dish washer
There's a groove on the inside of the ring for the steel ring on the inside of the lid, so if it was turned inside out it wouldn't fit and there's no up or down side, as it's the same on the top as the bottom.
Wow! First time I saw your channel. I learned so much and I’m going to start with your suggestions right away. Thank you for explaining your tips. I love my instant pot, but had not known how to easily clean the whole pot.
I just used my IP for the third time the other day, and when I washed the inner liner pot, I used a little baking soda, and a soapy sponge, and scrubbed it to get the stuck on food off. It worked pretty well, although I probably didn't scrub as thoroughly as I thought I did, as there was still some discoloration on the bottom of the pot. But it looks pretty good otherwise. And this was not a deep clean. Since I'm still new to the instant pot, I didn't even know you could deep clean it. Also, I rarely use my dishwasher, so thank you for adding tips on cleaning without using the dishwasher. I'm saving this video into one of my watch lists. Thank you!
Great tips, thank you! I also found that some Bar Keepers Friend Cleanser and a Teflon scrubber (Dobie) will remove food residue from the pot and make it shine. It's a little less labor-intensive and quicker. (This method is also good for stainless steel frying pans.)
I just discovered your channel! I used my IP for the first time tonight to make rice. It was DELICIOUS. You're doing a great job and I enjoying watching your videos. I subscribed!
Newbie to your Channel. Ordered and received my instapot mid December haven't used it yet. I'm watching your videos to give myself encouragement to use it for the first time.
Great, demo and like your pastry brush idea. The IP pot etc. takes up too much room in the dishwasher, so I fill it with hot water and baking soda, if there’s stuck food in it. Usually, that’s not an issue and I just use a handled sponge filled with Dawn. It’s much faster. I dry it and put it right back into the IP. The lid rarely has food splattered on it, so I set the lid in its slot on the pot and just wipe the condensation which accumulates at the bottom and inside the ring. It doesn’t need washing all the time, unless it’s sprayed with food. (Rarely happens). Love your cook n clean method! I’ll try that from time to time...
OMG, Barkeepers Soft cleanser or powder works the best and doesn't scratch the inner pot at all!! Makes it look like brand new, actually, better. Melaney from SoCal
Storing it with lid upside down is an amazing tip! I made a dirty rice and can’t get rid of the smell from the pot now but I’m gonna try all these hacks. Thanks!!
Two cleaning hracks I use. First when the liner is greasy I have a small glass jar with baking soda in it next to my sink. I shake some into the liner and use a plastic scrubber. After that I rinse and then use dish soap. It comes put super clean and shiny and the baking soda takes away the smell. 2nd tip, I put my bread dough in it on the yogurt setting and when I pulled it out there was still a lot of dough stuck to it. It would be a mess to try to use a brush or scrubber so I put a cup of water in it and closed it and put it on pressure cook for a couple of minutes. Most of the dough was floating on the bottom after that and I could use a paper towel to wipe out the rest.
Wash the liner in soapy water (unscented soap) and a little baking soda for a few minutes. A note: coffee grounds absorb odor well, so they might help odors.
Thank you so much for sharing this video! This is soooooo helpful. I've never really known how to properly take care of my Instant Pot. But this will help immensely. Thanks again! Love your channel!
New subscriber! I really appreciate you sharing and the effort it takes to create these. I’ll watch the IP accessories video right after this one because I can already tell that a few smart extras will make IP meal prep even better.
Hi I’m new to Insta pot, and wow, I had no idea the ring holds smells. But it sure does. I just made a roast and the ring reeks of it. I’m soaking it in vinegar and water. But I’m thinking old school. A brown paper bag with baking soda usually works well for funky smells. A brown paper bag(lunch size) may be a good way to store the ring. Just an idea.
I'd definitely recommend getting the colored additional sealing rings, orange for savory and blue for sweet, and storing them in separate bags. Especially if you use cumin! I often make yogurt and quark (similar product, different bacteria). The cumin I put in spicy dishes absolutely ruins them just from the ring alone! Even after boiling, it still imparts that flavor. My only solution was to use that batch as a sour cream substitute for tex-mex and wait for additional rings to arrive.
What a blessing to find your channel. Just cooked my first thing (blackeyed peas) in my new instant pot. Now a question regarding cleaning. I couldn't get the anti-block shield out to clean it. I noticed that you've taken yours totally off. Your thoughts?
I tried scrubbing the bottom of the inner pot with a teflon scrubber but those holes are hard to clean I mistakenly used a brillo pad and some of the coating came off exposing metal. Can I get a replacement/

I appreciate the tip about the vinegar and pressure cook & release to clean the vent as well.
Excellent video
Thanks for the video.. You are the best to explain how to clean, use and cook with the IP
you can use two lemons 2 coups of water 5 mins on high
I will do that!! I Cook half lemon in the microwave and it will clean it well as well, I have a lemon tree in my yard so that makes it convenient when it’s lemon season.
Nice hack! 🍋
What a great channel you have!
The foam craft brush works great. I use one all the time. Also use a binder clip to hold the pot in place when needing to stir or scoop out food
Do you clean the air fryer attachment?
You explain things very nicely! I would prefer no music, or even quieter music so it doesn't distract from your voice.
I enjoy that too!
Agree, dump the music. It's distracting, bordering on annoying and adds nothing to the production value.
I agree. She does a very good job of explaining things.
You’re awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I love your channel, ty!
Thank you for this video but I noticed most instructions are for 6+ sizes I have the 3 qt. what would you change for this size?
Awesome information!!!
your channel is perfect for trucker chefs. Thank you.
Buying an IP today. Can you use crock pot plastic liners in the IP metal liner?
Love your videos! Subscribed!
This was an excellent video. Thank you & God bless you.
How do you clean the air fryer lid?
How do you know which side of the sealing ring goes into the lid, or can either side go in?
There's a groove on the inside of the ring for the steel ring on the inside of the lid, so if it was turned inside out it wouldn't fit and there's no up or down side, as it's the same on the top as the bottom.
Wow! First time I saw your channel. I learned so much and I’m going to start with your suggestions right away. Thank you for explaining your tips. I love my instant pot, but had not known how to easily clean the whole pot.
Any thoughts on simply pressure cooking the spare ring , or rings, maybe with a splash of vinegar in the water to get the smells out?
You’re doing a great job with these videos! Very informative and helpful. Gained a new subscriber!
thank you SO much!!!!!
Ditto!
I intuitively have been doing all of these things.
Me, too. I just subscribed after watching this video.
I just discovered your channel! I used my IP for the first time tonight to make rice. It was DELICIOUS. You're doing a great job and I enjoying watching your videos. I subscribed!
I took out my sealing ring any tips on how to get it back in enough to fit back on the base very frustrated
Newbie to your Channel. Ordered and received my instapot mid December haven't used it yet. I'm watching your videos to give myself encouragement to use it for the first time.
Go on and use it. You will learn by using it. Follow a recipe and you will do well.
Great information. Thank you so very much.
Another great video!
Thank you so much! Do you have any vegetarian videos that are not soups or rice meals?
I keep learning !!
Will the red sealing ring color my food?
I use my home brewed colloidal silver to clean the outside of the pot along with many other things.
Bar keepers friend cleans the inner pot really well. ;)
All I’m going to say.
Thank you!
I needed this.
I have tried cleaning the sealing ring as you suggested-still retains odors.
Thanks so much! I'm finally at the point of being ready to unbox my instant pot So I'm studying up before I do that! Haha.
Sheri A, welcome! Listen closely to all the pros, don't forget the water and always check your sealing knob.
Thankfully, I have the duo Plus so I don't have to check my ceiling knob it's already set! Didn't I know that when I bought it but I'm so happy!
Mine was in its box for 2 years before I finally used it. Now I love it, esp with this channel to help figure out what I'm doing.
Thank you for this video, you seriously rock. I will use all the tips 💙💜
Any tips how to make sealing ring white again? Mine kinda turn brown? 😁
Thank you so much, Loved One
A note: coffee grounds absorb odor well, so they might help odors.
another great video.
Thank you so much for sharing this video! This is soooooo helpful. I've never really known how to properly take care of my Instant Pot. But this will help immensely. Thanks again! Love your channel!
Very informative! Thanks for that! 😁
For yoghurt making we don't need the IP lid at all. Yoghurt is a very low temperature setting. All that's needed is a glass lid or plate.
What a blessing to find your channel. Just cooked my first thing (blackeyed peas) in my new instant pot. Now a question regarding cleaning. I couldn't get the anti-block shield out to clean it. I noticed that you've taken yours totally off. Your thoughts?
Thanks for the great tips.
Can I use the lemon juice instead of vinegar hate the smell of vinegar.
Absolutely!
Thanks for this great video. I was nervous about buying the IP because the seal I thought would mold or stink. Great tips on cleaning and storing!!
I tried scrubbing the bottom of the inner pot with a teflon scrubber but those holes are hard to clean I mistakenly used a brillo pad and some of the coating came off exposing metal. Can I get a replacement/
