Thanks for sharing. I noticed a lot of people don't keep the rice water. In SE Asia we usually keep the rice water and use it for watering the plants. It has some nutrients so it feeds the plants as well. Don't waste it.
I have watched soooo many, how to make rice in my Instant Pot I like your video best, and I am gonna try it tonight. Thanks for the facts and no fooling around except for common sense. Music perfect loudness and great tips thank you
Thanks for the tips. I do find it easier to put the measured rice in a screen-type strainer and rinse under running water until it drains clear. You can then just dump the washed/strained rice into the Instant Pot and it cones out cleanly, no lost grains.
You're so right my husband's from Hawaii we learned how to cook it in the instapot because we eat rice every single day. yes you need to change the ring or do what I did. I bought the small instant pot just for my rice
I’ve never used the swirl method but have always used my hands to wash the rice in water before draining the water. Also it helps to soak the rice for about half hour before cooking. It shortens cooking time and makes it more fluffier and flavorful.
I want to try this one tonight. I have a different brand pressure cooker/rice cooker and can't ever figure out how I water it perfectly. After 3 days of experimenting, I finally seek help from UA-camrs and your video is the one that is really making sense. So... can't wait to try it! Thank you for posting this.
I learned about rinsing the damned rice when I worked in an hotel that had an Indian restaurant as part of it. They used a LOT of rice! They rinsed it all. For about 10 minutes. Big hotel pan with the rice in it, running water constantly while moving the rice around by hand, until the overflow was clear.
Lol lol omg you need to do more videos Ike this. I was raised to rinse your rice before cooking as well as your meat. Do more of this I am just starting to use my instapot. Thank you
I use Binder Spring Clips and clip it to the lip of the Inner Pot, at top. Then position pot & clip to fit into slots where the lid would normally go into. The clip keeps the inner pot from turning while stirring or mixing, thereby cannot accidently burn fingers. Enjoy...
I got an 8 quart instant pot today (October 15/20 , from daughter from Virginia. I’m from Niagara Falls, Canada. Due to the lockdown we are unable to travel there. So I’m watching your instant pot instructions and I learnt how to cook rice. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe. I’m going to start using my instant pot from tomorrow onwards. I’m a vegetarian in the sense I eat little dairy products only. Maybe eggs in baking cookies and cakes only. I love my ghee so I cannot be a vegan. Anyway I’m going to check all your other recipes. Thank you so much for your explanation about the instant pot. 🙏🇨🇦
🎉😊 Trying your method today! Thanks, going to make Chicken and Mock Duck and vegetables fried rice! I'm tired of making mushy 😢rice, and having to start over again on the rice, before I even get started!😮 I make some great stir fried food, it's just my rice situation! If I have left over rice, I'll make Kung Po Chicken tomorrow 🤗🫡😋! Wish me luck and I will make sure to rinse my rice😊😂!!!!!
I have no problem cooking rice in a regular pot on the stovetop, but I want to master it in the Instant Pot. (My dad spent time in Thailand during the Vietnam War. He liked sticky rice.)
Been making rice in my instant pot for years. Never do any of those and my rice has always been good. I don't have a rice ring, I do a 1 to 1 ratio and I rinse my rice one time.
If you get a net / mesh strainer, the rinsing is super simple, especially if you have a spray nozzle on your sink. Then you just rinse the rice, shake the strainer a little to remove the excess water, turn the strainer upside down over the instant pot, and tap ... all set. Don't have to do it 3 times. Just rinse till clear.
Hi, I never get my rice perfect. Now with the Instant Pot with the "Rice" button, I'm ready to give it a try. Just one question please. You said to add 1/4 cup more of water to the 1 c of rice. I saw that you used 2 cups of rice, but just ONE extra 1/4 cup of water. With using 2 cups of rice, doesn't it take an extra 1/2 cup of water because you are doubling the rice?
Your video is the first one I’ve seen where the teacher actually uses the rice button ! Would adding butter keep it from sticking to the bottom ? I like buttery rice and salt in my rice when I cook it on the stove. Why don’t teachers for PCers not use them ? Thanks !
The thing is the rice button is nothing more than a set time. It doesn’t change anything else on the settings. So you could use the manual button just the same. Yes rice and salt would flavor the rice. Not sure about sticking. As it sits on warm all rice will stick because the bottom is being baked by the heat.
Dad Got This I’ve ordered a non-stick pot to go with it. Hope that helps me. I have a Ninja Foodi that has a non-stick pot. I really like it. Thanks for answering but what about butter with the rice ? No ?
I think even with butter it will eventually stick if you leave it on warm. If you take the rice out right when it’s done there is almost no sticking with the stainless pot.
i use a electric pressure cooker i still need to test out more options but i rised my rice 2 times then i put some salt and fill it up with water that is 1'' inch over the rice then i cook it until the water is at a high boil for 2mins while stirring it then turn it off and put the lid on for 10mins then now remove the lid and remove it from the cooker and fluff the rice and it should look tasty also tip; better results if you don't make too much
In stead of pre rinsing. Ill rinse the rice after its cooked and that also gets rid of the starch, Just rinse it thoroughly in the plastic bowl with holes, i think they call it a colander. But it works fine if you do it this way too.
This is a very old video, one of my first. Try this updated one. Just the Easiest Way to Get Perfect Rice in the Instant Pot...Plus Dad Answers Your Questions! ua-cam.com/video/LqqqRLGVViA/v-deo.html
Rice Lovers you don't need multiple rings just soak the one you have in dish detergent as needed, purchase a strainer basket that will fit your instant pot doubles as a steamer/strainer. I have the 8-quart basket works like a charm for the 8-quart ultra-instant pot.
I like the idea of getting extra rings, it's true the food smell sticks, besides the fact that I'll be using this pot a lot. have had many pressure cookers (old fashion) and the rings definitely wears out and hard to find. By the way "great video"
I used to have the rice come out really well from the instant pot, but i think it was basmati then. Now i am using Thai jasmine rice and it came out very wet. It always sticks to the bottom too no matter how soon i get the rice out, with all types of rice. I lose like half a cup of rice each time! Its an instant pot duo mini. It has a rice button. Should i oil the pot?
Oil in the pot will affect the taste. If that doesn’t bother you it could be worth trying. As long as I was the rice and do a 1-1 water to rice ratio with a touch extra it always comes out great without it. Getting the rice right away always helps for me also.
Made a chocolate lava cake in my crock pot once (I know this is about pressure cookers). Learned that the crock pot absorbs the flavors of everything you cook. Beefy, porky, chicken-y chocolate lava cake was not good. Get extra silicone rings.
I think the terms are interchangeable lol. You made me do google it to see how dumb I was and they actually be called kernels!!! I accidentally got something right!
Felix Rosario I’ve done it with chicken stock instead of water before and it comes out great. I’ve also added seasonings to make “yellow rice” before too. Never tried oil or salt but I’ll give it a try. Is the oil for flavor or non sticking?
ffs dude, you have to add a tea spOon ish of oil SO THE STARCHY FROTH FROM HE RICE DOESN'T CLOG UP YOU PETCOCK RELEASE VALVE .>>>> The rice cooks better as well/ // NEVER COOK RICE IN THE INSTANT POT WITHOUT A TEA SPOON OF OIL...
I'm pleasantly surprised that someone else uses my water/rice ratio. I too add a 1/4 cup additional water. However, I do not rinse the rice. I toast the rice and seal the grains with a little oil like you do with a pilaf. This prevents the starches from exploding. My rice is never sticky or clumpy. My Instant Pot rice option defaults to 12 mins not 10. I wonder why. I go with the 12 mins and a slow release and the rice is perfect.
Best results soaked the rice for atleast 1 hour, should be good. Basmati Rice. One cup rice and 1 and tiny extra one cup water..add white vinager I table spoon and your rice will be absolutely separated and add at the same time little butter or 2 table Spon oil in it on medium heat 5 minutes and let the steam come automatically
Thanks for this tutorial! 👏🏽👍🏽 I just unboxing my instant pot and confused how to cook jasmine rice using this. Like super confused should I change the pressure level into high or low? LOL 😂 Now I have to wait for 12min and we’ll see.
You contradicted yourself what you said on the Basmattie rice vid a couple times - but hey, you do a nice job so I am going to let it slide this time - keep up the good work - love my rice as you do as well !! Rock on Dad !!!
I think it’s because basmati and jasmine are two totally different rices and need to be cooked differently. What did I contradict? I would not put it past myself lol.
Yes you rinse 3 times and with your hand with your fingers out and shake it around drain and repeat and add water to the first knuckle of your finger. You don’t even have to measure your rice and you’ll cook perfect rice every time.
Its because we like our rice a little on the sticky side. If you prefer less sticky rice try my Basmati Rice video. ua-cam.com/video/my1WJKWOMzE/v-deo.html
We like our rice a little on the wet side. Dry rice is not that appealing to me. You could use less water and add and extra rinse if you like it drier.
You can get just about anything delivered to your door in 2 days or less. Some places you can get it in an hour. Is it 100% needed to use separate rings, no. Would it really help, yes.
Thanks for sharing. I noticed a lot of people don't keep the rice water. In SE Asia we usually keep the rice water and use it for watering the plants. It has some nutrients so it feeds the plants as well. Don't waste it.
That is a great idea!
Great comment!
Thanks!!!
With todays water and electricity prices, we need to save whatever we can, and all for our plants, right? This is a great idea!
Oh thanks!

Thanks for your tip. I just got an Instant Pot cooker mostly for making rice. Your tip about using the included measuring cup is perfect.
You are so welcome!
Thanks for the tips. I do find it easier to put the measured rice in a screen-type strainer and rinse under running water until it drains clear. You can then just dump the washed/strained rice into the Instant Pot and it cones out cleanly, no lost grains.

I’ve never used the swirl method but have always used my hands to wash the rice in water before draining the water. Also it helps to soak the rice for about half hour before cooking. It shortens cooking time and makes it more fluffier and flavorful.

Wow! Thank you for making this simple!!!
Fascinating how the "rinse your rice" is becoming the "Do or Don't" on UA-cam. Chefs seem split evenly on this task.
Which side do you fall on?
@@DadGotThis My lack of skill and imagination pushes me toward the rise cycle. I am still at the "play it safe" stage of my cooking.

Hilarious. Kernels of rice. Gotta love it dude. I always thought they were grains of rice.
I think the terms are interchangeable lol. You made me do google it to see how dumb I was and they actually be called kernels!!! I accidentally got something right!
My only extra tip is to pre soak the rice for at least 20 -30 minutes, makes a huge difference to perfectly cooked grainy basmati rice.

@@DadGotThis what if it does, do you use that instead of manually setting the timer?
Chauvoni Cooke the buttons are just preset for times you use. I have my rice set to 10 and my unit only does high pressure.
Use 3 min on high and NR for fluffy rice.
And for more separate use pot in pot method.
I will have to try that!

What's the maximum amount of jasmine rice you can cook at once in a 6qt InstantPot?
Ive only done 5 cups at a time.
That did look sticky rice to me. Prefer the grains not to clump together. Would less water make it less clumpy ?
Yes less water would make it less clumpy. Also it “dries” out a bit as you leave it open too.
What if there is no rice setting ?
Manual setting 10 minutes high pressure.
Ok so what do you do when yours didn’t come with a cup?
The cup that came with it is 3/4 cup :)
@@DadGotThis Thank you!
Yes you rinse 3 times and with your hand with your fingers out and shake it around drain and repeat and add water to the first knuckle of your finger. You don’t even have to measure your rice and you’ll cook perfect rice every time.
Yup the old knuckle method, used it many a time!
here's another tip rinse it under cold tap fast then drain , there you have it non stick rice
Thanks 🙏 👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️😃😃⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
So we’re talking “less, normal or more” when cooking? Idk, mine has this setting. 🤷🏻♀️
Normal.
The actual ratio you used was 2:2 1/4, or 1:1 1/8.
I noticed! Mine still smells of food from like a year ago.
I've got one tip. Follow the instructions that come with the instant pot. You won't go far wrong doing that.
its still sticky to the bottom 8:00
Its because we like our rice a little on the sticky side. If you prefer less sticky rice try my Basmati Rice video. ua-cam.com/video/my1WJKWOMzE/v-deo.html

IF U RINSE UR RICE BEFORE COOKING, IT WILL RETAIN SOME OF THAT WATER SO U HAVE EXTRA ANYWAY.
Good point.
WHAT????RINSE MY DAMN RICE....😆😆🤣....
Looked kind of sticky and gooey compared to properly cooked stovetop cooked rice.
We like our rice a little on the wet side. Dry rice is not that appealing to me. You could use less water and add and extra rinse if you like it drier.
Why not pour your rice and water through a sieve? Then do the other water rinses.
I’m lazy and don’t want anything else to wash. 😝
Soaking the sealing ring in bi-carbonate of soda gets rid of any smells.
