    This radio is great. Full of features and at a better price than the Yaesu 8900. In service 2 years now in my truck. not a single problem with it...

    UPDATE::
    Yesterday, September 28, with this radio in my car and a Browning broadband CB antenna cut down to 10 meters, i worked Italy through the 10m repeater in Ney York, also a FM DX contact in Spain. 50 watts is all it took. I love it. 73

    Well, i just found that you CAN operate 11 meters CB on this radio, transmit AND receive.. Menu option 50, am/sw, turn to "ON", BUT you have to program the channel in the software as AM so it will stay on AM.. i'll make a video soon showing it.

      HamRadioConcepts Thank you! That's an issue for me. Not for CB, but for 10 meter AM.

      +jmtnvalley Same here. I do a lot of 10-meter AM but I've found that although lot of amateur transceivers do in fact operate in AM mode, many of them sound terrible on AM. The Kenwood TS-2000 and TS-480 are excellent AM performers and work WONDERFUL on 10-meter AM with the absolute best AM performer being the TS-2000. However, the TS-480 sounds DAMN GOOD on AM. Either radio would be wonderful choices if you're an AM guy like me :)

      My ICOM 7600 sounds AWESOME on AM.I use a HEIL PR-20 microphone & I am told all of the time that it sounds like Tube Audio.I did adjust the audio setting in the menu & it worked out great.

    The FM broadcast being as low as 65mhz is for the OIRT FM used in the old USSR and Warsaw Pact,.
    Japanese FM is 76 and up.
    There may still be some analog TV stations with audio on those freqs.
    Countries with 4 meter band also occupy that part of the spectrum.
    Then there is military VHF in that part of the spectrum too.

    You can save AM using your handheld. In this order: Enter frequency desired, then Menu 50 (am-sw) turn On, then Menu again to save. Then on the handheld button 4 (saving channel) enter channel number, then Menu again to save. Now you can name or re-name the channel if you'd like, Menu 22 (ch-name). Now you can leave an AM channel/frequency and come back to it and it will stay on AM.

    This is way better than the Yaesu FT-8900R and is way LESS expensive too. Used to have two Yaesu models (one in the mobile and one for a base). Although they're fantastic rigs, I really wish THIS version was available back then. When the Yaesu model came out they cost around $460 and didn't have quite as broad of receive as this model does. New ham radio operators today have no idea how good you have it nowadays compared to what we had way back when. The transceivers are WAY less expensive from what they used to be. I can remember paying $400 for a simple 2-meter mobile radio (Yaesu FT-2500 with optional PL decode module). Today an equivalent model is but a THIRD of that amount! Transceivers are way more affordable today than they once were :)

    European and UK CB is mostly FM, so this radio is even more useful here. The multi-function mic is a great feature.

    Yes you can use both of these to talk many miles, but your answer to your question depends on the terain in between, the conditions on the band, and the antennas at both ends.

    These Wouxun and Baofeng Chinese radios are really giving the big three, Kenwood, Icom and Yeasu a run for their money! Finally I don't have to pay $400 for a 10 year old Kenwood TM-742A, I can pay $150 for this and have far more functionality and more bands for example. Excellent.

      +Ivan Sugartail Yah, i like my Wouxun quad band to this day. Same features, and nobody has EVER commented negatively on my quality of audio or signal.. Love the people who claim "Those china radios will have poor audio and splatter off the band" well guess what, this radio gets me better reports than the Yaesu F-2900 did, that thing was muffled, and the speaker was complete trash above 4% volume... My video will show that.. 73

    It is illegal to use FM on the citizens band in the United States. Also illegal on the CB is to transmit more than a 4 watt carrier on AM.

    I cannot seem to get mine to tx in AM on 11 meters. I programmed all of the CB Channels into memory channels in the KG-UV950P Commander version R2.1.01-2.5k(130??? hidden by ok button) set them all to AM and change option 50 (AM-SW) to "ON". Receive seems to be in AM with no trouble but transmit is still transmitting in FM as confirmed by my Yaesu all mode low band transceiver. My radio was purchased last week from buytwowayradios and was manufactured 2/2015. Where your radio in the video says Sain Sonic mine says USA ONLY on the bottom and is s/n:QB002A001162153 I would love to see the video of how you are making this happen. :) I have a bad feeling only non "USA ONLY" versions may tx on 11M.
    BTW I like the radio so far. It was a bit clumsy to figure out the programming and what the buttons do for the first hour or so, but after a couple days with the radio so far I am getting the hang of it. Cant seem to figure out how to receive the FM Radio band or air bands direct input of the frequencies in frequency mode gets me nowhere. Thought I had the unlock software but have to look again for it. My radio out of the box was capable of transmitting on 26.000 as also confirmed by my Yaesu low band rig.

      @1OFGODSOWN 6 років тому +1

      It will transmit on commercial aka business band vhf and uhf, or vhf-uhf public service and public safety bands but not FM or AM Broadcast band frequencies. But I wouldn't advise transmitting on those frequencies unless you are legally authorized by either licensing, or being a member of a public service or public safety agency that is lawfully permitted to access those frequencies.

    • @HamRadioConcepts
      @HamRadioConcepts  10 років тому

      With 10 meters or 6 meters, if you have a band opening you can talk across the world if the conditions were right. It is FM, but i have talked many miles across the United States on FM 10 meter AND FM 6 meters. There are repeaters on 10m and 6m that connect you all over the US in good conditions in the summer. the VHF/UHF portion of this radio is similar to a 50 watt transceiver. But overall, its fun to have 10 meter contacts in a good opening.

  • @laythisdown
    @laythisdown 7 років тому

    For all of us technician class licensees, AM, in addition to FM transmit capability on 6 meters, is a pretty big deal and certainly worth the extra $100 bucks over the TYT TH-9800, even though the TYT is said by many to be a better radio. Yet the idiots at Wouxun seem to be so clueless that they don't advertise or even mention in the small-print that this radio has AM transmit capability!!! BTW, a message to Ivan Bunny: Wouxun IS NOT a Chinese company. It is a Japanese company that manufactures in China (Just like all the other Japanese companies--Kenwood, Yaesu, Icom, Alinco, for example--do!). Baofeng, and TYT ARE Chinese companies.

    • @HamRadioConcepts
      @HamRadioConcepts  7 років тому

      True, but i will say the AM quality is not that good. I tried AM 10 meters, and AM 11 meters.. While it does work, with a fellow ham miles away for testing, it sounds horrible, and distorted. I guess that is a feature that allows AM transmit, however they probably didnt put the filtering or bandwidth adjustments in it to maximize efficiency and stability. Just my 2 cents.
