    From England, I've just watched your video again 14th Oct. 2023, and feel I have to applaud the skill patience you put into this build. Something else that makes the viewing really enjoyable is your narration. Believe me it really helps to go along with the viewing. Bravo sir.

      Thank you for watching and for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoy the narration, I find videos easier to engage with a video when you can hear the maker talk about what they are doing and why, so that's what I try to bring to my videos.
      Cheers,
      Brett

    Here's a couple of tips about paint adhesion that I learned years ago. First wash the sprues in warm soapy water (a soft paint brush helps), rinse and dry. This removes the release agent that keeps the plastic from sticking to the mold. Also if you sand the surfaces with 600 grit sandpaper it gives the surfaces 'tooth' for the paint to adhere to. Lastly, wipe the model with rubbing alcohol to remove oil from your hands. P.S. the slats were not spring loaded and are normally shut when on the ground. The slats ran on tracks and angle of attack caused them to open or shut.

      Thank you for the tips and the feedback, I really am a noob when it comes to the 109, so clearly I have a lot to learn, but I'm always happy to learn more information!

    One thing I like is that you left the section of the fuel line in the cockpit clear. I've seen a lot of builds where people paint all of it. I've also seen modelers who use a little clear orange to represent fuel in the line.

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  Місяць тому

      Yeah, I had seen someone else do it and had to research what the part was, but once I figured out it was a fuel line it made sense why the part was molded clear. Thanks for watching!

      I really know very little about Luftwaffe aircraft. My main focus is on the Pacific. Everything I know came from my Dad! He can freehand all of that camo like you wouldn't believe. I'm lucky if I can get -109 and -190 subvariants and details correct. The one -109 that I have always liked was flown by ace Alferd Saurau. It had a yellow spinner with a black spiral and had eyes painted on the breeches on either side of the cowling. If I remember correctly, Saurau was killed intercepting B-17s.

    Just by looking at the model for a split second I was like; that tulip was masked and the yellow and white borders are way too thick.. First thing you mention is the main event of this build: the masking and painting of the tulip.. 😂 Ill be damned! Lol. Masking on a scale like that is near impossible and it's impressive you got this result in 1/48. I've build the Hartmann version of that kit for a friend of mine and was very pleased with the result. For the red not matching; don't worrie, in many cases different batches of paint and different moments in time led to different hue's of the same base colour on one plane.

      I definitely want to revisit this build, I have a new set of custom masks made for this livery that I think will yield better results and give a more in scale look. Thanks for watching!

    Amazing work on this 109. I have to agree Eduard's 109s are the leader right now. The Tamiya is fantastic, especially for beginners or those getting back into it though and that's not knocking it, I love the Tamiya kit for a quick fun build up of a 109.

    Nice, but...
    The plane was a specially modified G-5. The aircraft had an outer main landing gear door (as on the K-4), and rear view mirror - a modified canopy. The emblem under the cockpit belongs to Grislawski's plane. Graf only took a picture in it. At the time he had the tulip painted, his aircraft was armed with Wfr. Gr. 21 rocket launchers. His plane was filmed, so we know what it looked like.

    Anyone built both the latest 1/48 Eduard F-4 or G-6 and Zvezda F-4 & G-6 to offer a comparison. I've built the fabulous Zvezda F-2 & F-4, but not the Eduard equivalents. Detailed, they build into a very nice Bf 109, but like their initial 1/48 new standard toolings such as the La-5FN from 2007, overengineered and so unnecessarily complex builds IMV. Unsure if Zvezda followed the same design ethos with their G-6? Their later new tools like their awesome Pe-2 from 2018, whilst superbly detailed, were much better I thought.

    Very clean build... The biggest disadvantage of the Eduard kit over the Tamiya kit is the gear legs are much too long and not "fat" enough. Tamiya is the only 1/48 Me-109G-6 with proper fat gear legs. The G-2 and maybe some G-4s(?) still had thin gear legs, but that was the end of it. The giveaway is the wheel bumps on the wings: Probably almost all 109s with those bumps should have fat legs. It is visually a big error, worsened by the excessive length. Eduard kept this error even in their G10s and later models.

    What's going on with eduard new decals. You have to remove the upper decal membrain ?
