Marvelous. Just rediscovering my youth. Forgot how brilliant this song was and why I knew she was a top singer and so beautiful. That's why I had your pics all over my wall.
For no reason that I can figure out, I woke up at 3 am last night with this song stuck in my head and it hasn't left all day. Strangest thing. But upon watching the video, I was struck by how "diverse" it is - you see people of colour, Latinos - and NO ONE CARED! That's what it was like back in the 80's, none of that mattered - we were just people enjoying good music and having a good time! I wish the current generation could experience what that was like! Debbie had no narrative or agenda, she was simply having fun! Sigh. I wish we could back to that.
Wow this has over 2.3 million views thirty years after this came out. I thought people forgot about Debbie Gibson. Apparently not. She was so massive in the late 80’s. And she was a regular girl with talent. Wrote and produced her own music. Didn’t need to wear g-string and bend over and gyrate on stage the way they all do now. And this song is still amazing. Happy and joyful.

If I were an only child
I would be a lonely child
But baby we've got nothing to lose
I'm standing tall in my own shoes
I'll take this chance
I'll make this choice
I'll right this wrong
I'll raise my voice
If it means
We'll be together
For a while
I have never had a doubt
But for you I'll take time out
I'll push his love far away from me
And then I'll be completely free
I'll give up my security
For just the possibility
That we could be together
For a while
If you said jump I'd say how high?
If you said run I'd run and fly
Just for the chance
Just for the moment
Should the moment pass up by
And if you ask once I'll tell you twice
I'll ignore the world's advice
If we could be together
For a while
I am taken by your strength
I've thought about it at great length
I thought that I was happy now
But there are things that I found out
Happiness means greater things
I'll sit here 'til that telephone rings
Then we could be together
For a while
Wait'll I tell my guy
Wait'll I tell my other friends
They'll all think I'm crazy
And ya know what?
That depends
'Cause I'm crazy in love
With you
And everyone's best won't do
They'll say my hopes
Will not come true
But I'm taking the chance
Because you only live once-
(only live once, only live once)
And
There are no guarantees
But if it means
There's even a possibility
Then I'll give up whatever it takes
I know I've made some mistakes before
It may be just another closed door
But we could be together
For a while

But for you I'll take time out
I'll push his love far away from me
And then I'll be completely free
I'll give up my security
For just the possibility
That we could be together
For a while
If you said jump I'd say how high?
If you said run I'd run and fly
Just for the chance
Just for the moment
Should the moment pass up by
And if you ask once I'll tell you twice
I'll ignore the world's advice
If we could be together
For a while
I am taken by your strength
I've thought about it at great length
I thought that I was happy now
But there are things that I found out
Happiness means greater things
I'll sit here 'til that telephone rings
Then we could be together
For a while
Wait'll I tell my guy
Wait'll I tell my other friends
They'll all think I'm crazy
And ya know what?
That depends
'Cause I'm crazy in love
With you
And everyone's best won't do
They'll say my hopes
Will not come true
But I'm taking the chance
Because you only live once-
(only live once, only live once)
And
There are no guarantees
But if it means
There's even a possibility
Then I'll give up whatever it takes
I know I've made some mistakes before
It may be just another closed door
But we could be together
For a while
How can you not love this?
Best seller forever,Debbie: diva forever
Wow this has over 2.3 million views thirty years after this came out. I thought people forgot about Debbie Gibson. Apparently not. She was so massive in the late 80’s. And she was a regular girl with talent. Wrote and produced her own music. Didn’t need to wear g-string and bend over and gyrate on stage the way they all do now. And this song is still amazing. Happy and joyful.
true and lets not forget in 1989 there was no mickey mouse club for her generation not that she would have qualified anyway.
ALL OF HER SONGS ARE SOOOO GOOD AND HER VOICE *WOW*
If I were an only child
I would be a lonely child
But baby we've got nothing to lose
I'm standing tall in my own shoes
I'll take this chance
I'll make this choice
I'll right this wrong
I'll raise my voice
If it means
We'll be together
For a while
I have never had a doubt
But for you I'll take time out
I'll push his love far away from me
And then I'll be completely free
I'll give up my security
For just the possibility
That we could be together
For a while

I love you Debbie
Happy times Spunky luv ya💜🌹🎶
I loved your music then, and i love your music now. You are a significant part of our youth and i will never forget you Debbie.
Debbie gibson sooo... Talented
Omigawd... I miss the 80s... So very, very badly. These were years. Good music. Fun times.
우와~~이노래를 듣게 되다니!!
중학교 2학년때 직접 사서 들은
데비깁슨 음반에 수록곡인데
항상 입에서 중얼중얼 나오던 멜로디..
15살때로 하루만 돌아가봤으면😭
A true aspiration to us all. Why Debbie is not celebrated more for her contributions to music, I'll never know. Far better than anything they spew out today!
Far better than Kate Bush too.
Well said.i just cringe at karaoke when the younger ones belt out Taylor swift songs.this is real talent by comparison and I was 11 when this song came out in 1989 going on 12.
I have always loved Debbie Gibson. Every couple of weeks I come here to watch her videos
Great song great video Debbie looks so pretty in this video
Debbie Gibson is an American talent & beauty.
This is the first time I watch this video. Debbie Gibson was my guilty pleasure back in the 80s.
To me this is her best song. Maybe i'm biased because I love it so much.
Debbie, Tiffany, NKOTB... my teen years' music was pure gold
My first cassette album was Tiffany. I love NKOTB, Tiffany and Debbie so much still.I wish I could have seen them together in concert.
Composed, produced, arranged, AND performed by 16-year-old Debbie Gibson !
This was from her second album, so she was 18 at this point, but it's still impressive.
you're such a rule breaker Debbie...that's why we love ya.:) I forgot how awesome this song was!
This song sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it!! Love it!
