You can use the active element selection "." key on the keyboard to select different active elements. Then shear, or scale away or too that vertex.
I find the use of shrinkwrap to be invaluable in the hardsurface modeling subd workflow. That neck area going from the circle at the top to rectangle at the bottom can be mind bendingly frustrating. 😂
