Geez, that's song is so purrfect. Seriously, Zira's one of the top villain in the Disney's movies and prolly in the whole kid's film collections. She has a background, she's a purpose. She's been hurt and betrayed. In one word : she's "human". That's something you can feel when watching the movie and that makes it great. That's how I love my Disneys (and movies).
The imagery of the lyrics, the tone of ziras voice as she sings, plus how the beginning starts like an actual lullaby and then becomes more intense as it goes on. In other words this this is one dark and awesome song
Scar’s song is about how he’s gonna ursuper his brother for the throne. Zira’s song is about how the murder of her archenemy is her lullaby. Talk about escalating quickly.
I think both Scar and Zira are both incredibly successful villains for entirely different reasons. Scar was successful for his cunning and his ability to manipulate those around him. Rather than specifically desiring bloodshed, he was driven by ambition and the murder of the competition was simply a means to an end for him. Scar was lacking in physical prowess; something which he was highly aware of and so used his brain to compensate by forming strong alliances and manipulating people and situations so that things would go his way. And that was what made him enjoyable to watch and quite refreshing in many ways. Zira is equally successful but is a markedly different type of villain to Scar, if not the exact opposite. For starters Zira's goal is not ambition, although it is heavily implied she wants Kovu to become the king of pride rock, her main focus is revenge. Thus making her more bloodthirsty and less manipulative. This is evident as she never once tried to lie to her followers about her motives, charm them with words or offer them promises to persuade them to follow her. She actively desires physical confrontation and is very open about her bloodlust, specifically her desire to kill Simba and his family; whereas Scar played things closely to the chest so that he could prevent pysical altercations and other repercussions for his despicable actions. This is what seperates them as villains and honestly I think it was a good move on Disney's part to make them so different. Attempting to make a villain just like Scar would almost certainly have fallen flat, perhaps to the point of being cringey. But Zira was honestly the one thing that kept me fully invested in the second film, to be perfectly honest. And also, as this is Zira's song. I'd like to say that I love it and it is definitely one of the best songs in the soundtrack. Also it is on par with be prepared in my opinion.
"The sound of Simba's dying gasp, His daughter squealing in my grasp, his lionnesses' mournful cry" .... "And then our flag will fly, against the blood-red sky" This is why I loved this song so much. This is as dark as Hellfire. It describes one's desire for war, conquest, and genocide. I cant believe Disney didn't sugar-coated the darkness of this song. Compared with the more recent Villain songs, "My Lullaby" will still one of the greatest, darkest Disney Villain songs
Zira was one of the most well developed villains ever and shes so underated. You can sympathize with her madness which makes all the more terrifying and you can see what it does to those around her and herself.
Been awhile since I heard this song... never knew how psychotic the lyrics were. Now I'm debating which disney song is more messed up, Hellfire or this?
Holy cripes. I literally just realized. "So you found yourself somebody who'd chase Simba up a tree." "CHASE SIMBA UP A TREE." GUYS this is a harkening callback to the first movie!!
I hate how overlooked this song is, it’s genuinely on tier with the villain songs of Disney’s golden age. It’s no Be Prepared, but I think it still remains one of the better Disney villain songs, behind Hellfire, the aforementioned Be Prepared, and Gaston.
This song is darker than I remember……I love it more. I MEAN LIKE how it builds up, the lyrics, and it shows how Zira is, no other song in this movie I love as much as this one!
I feel like not a lot of people notice that the title doesn't only mean a lullaby she sings for Kovu. It's also her own lullaby, because thinking of revenge helps her sleep.
Zira was the only vilain i actually was affraid as a kids. I now understand why, because her motivations are completely understandable and you can't neccesarily call her evil.
I know this channel is 3 years old, but THANK YOU FOR BEING THE ONE LYRICS CHANNEL THAT DOESN'T HAVE POINTLESS CREDITS AT THE END OF THE VIDEO! THANK YOU SO MUCH! ;W;
My family and I went on a small road trip with my friend and I played some Disney music. Now, my mom and I freaking LOVE The Lion King and The Lion King 2, so we played all the songs for that. When I played this one and sang my absolute favorite line in Disney history "Though the battle may be bloody, that kind of works for me~" My friend, slowly looked over at me and said "Remind me to never fight with you again..." Also, she' never seen any of The Lion King's and my mom and I are slightly offended
Hearing this song makes the hair on my arms stand up, it’s really depressing and dark but also really cool and bad ass. I love That’s My Lullaby and Be Prepared so much.
Actually Scar and Zira revealed their plans when they were singing. Scar's power was his mind and yet being coward destroyed all his plans. We could see how afraid he was when Simba returned, and he was planning coup. Meanwhile Zira planned her revenge and return to the pride lands. Both were scary to deal with, but Scar could hide his attention and Zira couldn't.
Thanks for uploading this!!! And for the info too! It's so sad that Suzanne Pleshette passed away a few years ago. I don't know very much of her work, but to have been involved in Lion King 2 and Spirited Away is amazing.
The first time I heard this song, I wasn't all that impressed, but now that I've heard it again, it seems to have greater qualities than I originally gave it credit for having.
This movie perfectly portrayed not only war, but what happens when you push those that oppose you too far into a corner. Simba was wrong to exile Scar's followers instead of holding them accountable for their actions and trying to help them see the light. It was a decision that has killed so many monarchs, dictators, and presidents throughout the ages and were it not for Kovu and Kiara, may have ended the entire kingdom itself. Simba uprooted a huge chunk of his pride purely out of fear and because of it, for Zira at least, nothing could have satisfied her more than to see him and those he loved dying in painful deaths. Scar was evil because he was inherently evil, Zira was evil because of betrayal and an idiot.
Intro: Hush, my little one. You must be exhausted Sleep, my little Kovu Let your dreams take wing One day when your big and Strong, you will be a king Verse 1: I've been exiled, persecuted, Left alone with no defense When I think of what that brute did, I get a little tense But I dream a dream so pretty, that I dont feel so depressed Cause it soothes my inner kitty and it helps me get some rest Chorus: The sound of simba's dying grasp, His daughter squealing in my grasp His lionesses mournful cry, That's my lullaby Verse 2: Now the past I've tried forgetting And my foes I could forgive Trouble is, I know its pretty but I hate to let them live So you found yourself somebody Who's chase Simba up a tree Oh, the battle may be bloody, But that kind of works for me Chorus 2: The melody of angry growls, A counterpoint of painful howls A symphony of death, oh my! That's my lullaby Bridge: Scar is gone... but Zara's still around to love this little lad Till he learns to be a killer With a lust for being bad Sleep ya, little termite uh I mean, Precious little thing One day when you're big and strong You will be a king! Pre chorus The pounding of the drums of war, The thrill of Kovu's mighty roar The joy of vengeance Testify! Chorus 3: I can hear the cheering Kovu, what a guy Payback time is nearing and then Our flag will fly Agaisnt a blood red sky, That's my lullaby!
I can honestly see Vegeta singing this to Trunks, and Simba representing Goku, Scar representing Bulma or King Vegeta , and Simba's daughter being Gohan, Gotten, or Chichi! Or maybe King Vegeta singing this to baby Vegeta, with Simba representing Frieza, Scar representing Vegeta's mother, and Simba's daughter representing Frieza's son Kuriza!! ^.^
'The sound of Simba's dying gasp' that literally gave me the chills. I'm from Spain and this song is not that dark in the Spanish version, but now that I listen to this...How could it make it on a kids movie? lol
okay but zira wasnt messing around. in the final battle, the outlanders were destroying the pride landers. if not for kiara and kovu, the outlanders would have definitely won, and zira would have avenged scar.
Zira is honestly more terrifying than Scar. Scar was jealous of his brother. He was greedy & power-hungry, largely because he wanted to feel superior for once in his life. & he would do whatever it took, even killing Mufasa & trying to murder his newly-orphaned son. Zira was on a war path from the beginning. She already planned to overthrow the kingdom with Scar, & raise their son as the next in line. After Scar was killed, she only became more hell-bent on a bloody uprising. She was hungry for power, & even hungrier for vengeance. This song is literally her fantasizing about brutally murdering the entire royal line. Not just that, but ravaging the Pride Lands that have always been against her, as a whole. Then building them up again under a new, merciless regime. She's god damn terrifying & it's awesome.
“Now the past I’ve tried forgetting, and my foes I could forgive, problem is I know it’s petty, but I hate to let them live” 😤 This line speaks to me on a deep and personal level 🤣
I always enjoyed this song and would replay it even when I was younger. Come to think of it I always thought the villians had some of the best songs. This, "Hellfire" (Hunchback), "Be Prepared" (Lion King), "Savages" (Pocahontas) and even though its not a villian song really "Not One Of Us" (Lion King 2) were top favorites. My vengeful, crazy personality side is satisfied hahaha.
Geez, that's song is so purrfect.

That's how I love my Disneys (and movies).
This song is a lot darker than how I remember it was.
It's sad that Disney's movies probably will never have these themes (brutal deaths, violence, dark songs) again.
I get legitimate chills when she sings "Payback time is nearing, and then our flag will fly." Chills that "Be Prepared" didn't actually give me.
The imagery of the lyrics, the tone of ziras voice as she sings, plus how the beginning starts like an actual lullaby and then becomes more intense as it goes on. In other words this this is one dark and awesome song
Scar was sneaky and cunning. He tried to lure others into a death trap, while Zira just wants to attack forcefully, no matter what.
I love the end...so evil... "our flag will fly against a blood-red sky" chills!
How does he get any sleep with a lullaby like that?
"His lioness' mournful cry" AWW NALA NOO
Ok but Nala would literally slay
*the lionesses starts fighting*
Zira: I haven't dreamt of anything else but this
Timon: she sure does need a hobby
but hey he's ain't wrong
Scar’s song is about how he’s gonna ursuper his brother for the throne.
Zira’s song is about how the murder of her archenemy is her lullaby.

I love Vitani's singing voice.
" simba's dying gasp, His daughter squealing in my grasp, His lioness' mournful cry"? Geez this song is dark
"The sound of Simba's dying gasp,
His daughter squealing in my grasp,
his lionnesses' mournful cry"
....
"And then our flag will fly,
against the blood-red sky"

1998 "a symphony of death"
2013 "let it go"
I think kids movies have changed quite a bit
Okay, who here likes Zira as much as Scar?
anyone else loves the way Nuka says "Kovu, what a guy" 😂😂😂
I just love Vitani’s “Teatify!” it was so cute her and that “Kovu what a guy”
Been awhile since I heard this song... never knew how psychotic the lyrics were. Now I'm debating which disney song is more messed up, Hellfire or this?
This song is soo dark for a children's film. But it is such a wonderful song & composition!
I swear I thought all these years that she said "That's my little boy" My life is a lie.
So this is from a kid's movie, right?
Holy cripes. I literally just realized.
"So you found yourself somebody who'd chase Simba up a tree."
"CHASE SIMBA UP A TREE."
GUYS this is a harkening callback to the first movie!!
Am I alone in always liking the bad guys in movies??
I never considered Lion King 2 much of a movie, especially when compared to its predecessor, but the songs...The songs...Wow.
Zira scares me more than Scar.
I hate how overlooked this song is, it’s genuinely on tier with the villain songs of Disney’s golden age. It’s no Be Prepared, but I think it still remains one of the better Disney villain songs, behind Hellfire, the aforementioned Be Prepared, and Gaston.
she sounds like somebody who would smoke
That last "lullaby" still sends chills down my spine.
umm....Zira took lullabays to a WHOLE nother level!!!
whose fave parts also are "the joy of vengeance, testify!" and "then our flag will fly, against a blood-red sky" (;?
imagine this sung by either Bellatrix Lestrange or Narcissa Malfoy to Draco
It's a shame Disney doesn't make dark songs like this anymore
My inner child just died cuz I did not know the lyrics when I was a kid but now damn Disney is dark
I genuinely loved Zira as she wasn't 100% bad- she was still a loving mother, a leader and a 'wife' or sorts to Scar. She is a truly great character!
It's awesome that Yubaba sings this. Suzanne Pleshette was a perfect role for Zira.
She's scarier than all the other Disney villains. Heck not even Maleficent is that scary
The flag against the blood red sky part gives me chills but I've always wondered how on earth a lion in the middle of nowhere knew what a flag was.
This song is darker than I remember……I love it more. I MEAN LIKE how it builds up, the lyrics, and it shows how Zira is, no other song in this movie I love as much as this one!
Such an underrated movie with a bangin soundtrack. Zira was savage as hell! I love this song.
I feel like not a lot of people notice that the title doesn't only mean a lullaby she sings for Kovu. It's also her own lullaby, because thinking of revenge helps her sleep.
Zira was the only vilain i actually was affraid as a kids. I now understand why, because her motivations are

I honestly like this more than Be Prepared
I know this channel is 3 years old, but THANK YOU FOR BEING THE ONE LYRICS CHANNEL THAT DOESN'T HAVE POINTLESS CREDITS AT THE END OF THE VIDEO! THANK YOU SO MUCH! ;W;
While watching this part of the movie I found myself thinking 'How can that kid sleep with this loud ass lullaby!?'
i have seen this movie at least five times and this is the first time i realized how dark and twisted this song is
I did not notice as a kid how dark this song was or how sadistic Zira was. Brilliant...
great example of what happens when you raise children out of hatred
I love her voice when she says "intensifies"
Honestly the thing I look forward to the most in this song isn't Zira's madness showing through. It's Vitani's eagerness at the end.
Vitani is honestly precious.
RIP her voice actress
She did a masterpiece song like Tony Jay
*thinks of Cersei Lannister and Joffrey* Wait wat
dark.
but i like it.
My family and I went on a small road trip with my friend and I played some Disney music. Now, my mom and I freaking LOVE The Lion King and The Lion King 2, so we played all the songs for that. Also, she' never seen any of The Lion King's and my mom and I are slightly offended
Ill be honest, these lyrics are way easier to memorize than Be Prepared
Who am I the only one who finds themselves loving the Disney Villains songs more as they grow up?
Best villain song in a movie EVER. Well, maybe it's a close second to Scar's Be Prepared but it's still good. 😈
I can't believe I forgot how absolutely killer this song was
Holy hell
Time to dig up the DVDs
Scar: “Yes, my teeth and ambitions are bared….be prepared!”
Zira: “That’s my lullaby!”
Her vocals... Just... Oh my...
The most underrated Disney villain song imo. Just as good as Be Prepared and that ending gives me goosebumps.
This is much darker than I remembered. Also the italian version is much more lighter...
I definitely prefer this one.
Hearing this song makes the hair on my arms stand up, it’s really depressing and dark but also really cool and bad ass. I love That’s My Lullaby and Be Prepared so much.
2:16 This part is my favourite
This song's atmosphere always stuck with me: comforting yet powerful.
So evil and scary, I love it
Is it just me, or does Zira seam like something went on and she went INSANE?!
I love how powerful the words are in this song, it truly explains how much Zira yearns to kill simba (my precious boy 😢) and seize the pride lands
Easily one of the best villain songs ever written
*Y'know, just casually singing about murder in a kids movie.*
I'm planning on making a parody of this, and I realize just how much of this song doesn't need to be changed.
how do lions fly a flag
"Tomorrow your training intensifies...." (That line gives me chills.)
Thanks for uploading this!!!
And for the info too! It's so sad that Suzanne Pleshette passed away a few years ago. I don't know very much of her work, but to have been involved in Lion King 2 and Spirited Away is amazing.
Zira = Cersei
Valentine singing this to Jace as a little kid😂. Anyone else a Mortal Instruments Fan?
The first time I heard this song, I wasn't all that impressed, but now that I've heard it again, it seems to have greater qualities than I originally gave it credit for having.
I like how you see Zira at the top of the precipice at the end of this song. It emphasizes her connection to Scar since she was his wife.

Scar was evil because he was inherently evil, Zira was evil because of betrayal and an idiot.
Pokémon version:
“One day when you’re big and strong, you will be Nidoking!”
There's a saying: hell hath no fury like a woman's scorn. Disney took that thought and ran with it.
Intro:
Hush, my little one.
You must be exhausted
Sleep, my little Kovu
Let your dreams take wing
One day when your big and
Strong, you will be a king
Verse 1:
I've been exiled, persecuted,
Left alone with no defense
When I think of what that brute did,
I get a little tense
But I dream a dream so pretty, that
I dont feel so depressed
Cause it soothes my inner kitty and it helps me get some rest
Chorus:
The sound of simba's dying grasp,
His daughter squealing in my grasp
His lionesses mournful cry,
That's my lullaby
Verse 2:
Now the past I've tried forgetting
And my foes I could forgive
Trouble is, I know its pretty but
I hate to let them live
So you found yourself somebody
Who's chase Simba up a tree
Oh, the battle may be bloody,
But that kind of works for me
Chorus 2:
The melody of angry growls,
A counterpoint of painful howls
A symphony of death, oh my!
That's my lullaby
Bridge:
Scar is gone... but Zara's still around to love this little lad
Till he learns to be a killer
With a lust for being bad
Sleep ya, little termite uh I mean,
Precious little thing
One day when you're big and strong
You will be a king!
Pre chorus
The pounding of the drums of war,
The thrill of Kovu's mighty roar
The joy of vengeance
Testify!
Chorus 3:
I can hear the cheering
Kovu, what a guy
Payback time is nearing and then
Our flag will fly
Agaisnt a blood red sky,
That's my lullaby!

For the longest time I thought Wendy Powell voiced Zira, cause...she sounds a lot like Envy from Fullmetal Alchemist.
'The sound of Simba's dying gasp' that literally gave me the chills. I'm from Spain and this song is not that dark in the Spanish version, but now that I listen to this...How could it make it on a kids movie? lol
I love this song. Even it idolizes war, it doesn't sugar-coat anything.
This is literally the first time I hear this song in original. I love it.
Scar is Sassy but Zira just has a swag.
She’s just badass 😂
okay but zira wasnt messing around. in the final battle, the outlanders were destroying the pride landers. if not for kiara and kovu, the outlanders would have definitely won, and zira would have avenged scar.
"Now the pasta tried spaghetti" 1:08

Just think,if this movie came out today instead of when it did people would get triggered because it mentions killing.
The first 5 seconds are so soothing but the second she leaves that 'chamber' it gets so much darker and revealing of her actual plan for her child
I grew up watching this movie, hearing this song daily, and to this day, I can't listen to this without shakeing.
