Sometimes, I may just want to take a short nap, and for that ill have to take off my contacts and put them in a case. I was taught how to clean contacts but I was never taught how to clean a case and whatnot. Another reason why this is important is because, if I ever choose down the line to switch to bi-weekly contacts or monthly contacts, ill know exactly what to do. This information was very valuable and I learned a lot from this video. Thank you, Doctor.
I have been wearing contacts since middle school, since 2014, and I have tried almost all solutions. I just switched to clean care hydrogen peroxide, although it’s slightly more expensive, and it was the best decision ever. The comfort of my contacts have increased drastically. I always tend to get blurry vision when I’m driving or when I’m focused on staring at something when I was on solutions but with hydrogen peroxide that’s all gone. I’d say experiment and find what you like.
Thank you for helping me with this. I only got my contacts for cosplay and was they nervous about the entire process. Every video I’ve watched with you has been clear, informative, and gave me confidence. If I ever had to wear contacts daily, I know I could and would be able to take care of them thanks to you.
Made the switch to Peroxide solution and two weeks in I feel like I can wear my lenses for long hours without any discomfort. Previously I would have experienced discomfort from my lenses after the second or third wear. Not great when you have bi-weekly lenses. Thank you for making this video. Really happy to wear bi-weekly lenses following this simple change!
@@boogabooga3837 I put them straight in, but only after waiting the minimum soaking time (usually 6 hours). You can rinse them with fresh saline solution, though the remaining solution after 6 hours of soaking in the case is saline. I’d say see which you prefer, just don’t rinse with the peroxide solution.
When I was 18 I scratched my cornea because I was wearing a contact with a small tear. I had to go to the ER. Doesn’t sound serious it it was excruciatingly painful.
Wow! This was a great video. This is Mary from VRA and I am so happy to have discovered your channel! I do not wear contact lenses but I am very interested in so many of the topics you share. My husband and I can learn a great deal from you as to how best to take care of our aging eyes. You have such a wonderful presentation and provide much needed information! Thank you SO much!! Love and God Bless, Mary
I have been wearing them since November 2019 and today is February 2020 and I never ever actually cleaned them right. My eyes were in pain so I came here. Thanks
I love the hydrogen peroxide solution. The first method is incredibly impractical and expensive, and I could never really clean my lenses so they irritated my eyes. The hydrogen peroxide make it possible for me to wear two week lenses instead of spending massive amounts of money on dailies. Having astigmatism is expensive 🙃
For the hydrogen peroxide solution, once it’s been more than six hours and the solution becomes sterilized water, you just pop them in straight from the vertical lens case?
@@markjacobo1991 Yes. But you have to wait 6 hours. I can't emphasize this enough. The reviews of these solutions are always full of idiots complaining how it burned their eyes because they didn't wait enough
It's ridiculous that the two-pack of Clear Care doesn't include a second case. I always buy the single pack even though it's more expensive per bottle. Well, I used to. Now I'm buying off-brands because Clear Care is so hard to find.) Also, Clear Care with HydraGlyde leaves a film on lenses that makes them unwearable. I have no idea why they still sell this product.
Hey thank you sooo much! I’ve had my contacts for about 2 days now and this really helped because at first I thought that my contacts were the type that you could sleep in but I was wrong!
This was very interesting and an important reminder. I just switched from daily lenses to two-week toric lenses and have had to remember the entire cleaning regimen. I like BioTrue best but have used Puremoist and also ClearCare. I did find ClearCare dried out my lenses which meant I had to use more rewetting drops through the day. I find BioTrue and Puremoist keep my eyes hydrated. I have been wearing contacts for over 50 years and today's lenses are a wonderful experience compared to hard lenses or the first generation of soft lenses I wore in the 70's
I have just gotten my first contacts and want to know if I can leave my contacts case air dry ALL day while I have the contact on? Another question is, is it not better to let the case air dry upside down?
I talked to my mom about contacts about 15 minutes ago, and this video came up on my home page. I appreciate this, though. Because I didn't know any of this, and you explain it very well!
I only just started wearing contacts at aged 49 and your vids helped tremendously because putting them in was such a pain initially! I'd like to ask, if its ok to use the hydrogen peroxide once a week (or every few days) and normal lens solution at other times?? Is it ok to mix your solution this way?
I'm currently on contacts both soft and hard as one of my eyes has a keratoconus condition. Ive been prescribed with the AO SEPT PLUS hydrogen peroxide cleaner and it does so much wonders on my vision and it really helps clean the lenses x
Love clear care! Important note though. I've had experiences where I rinsed off my contacts with a different contact disinfecting solution and then put it in the clear care case/solution and it caused an overreaction to bubble up too much and overflow/not have enough solution covering the lenses. Awesome solution but be careful with reactions. Especially the HydraGlyde, that one is more finicky than the classic one!
Thanks for the input Christian! I agree. I honestly feel I have heard more people have issues with Hydraglyde but the Alcon company went ahead and switched all their air optix lenses to it as well.
I use BL sensitive eyes cleaner and saline with ClearCare plus. Rinsing well is key. No over foaming or overflow whenever I've used ClearCare plus. I'm a heavy depositor and the cleaning step with ClearCare plus makes my air optix w/hydraglyde multifocal lenses super comfortable.
I was trying hard lenses, but they just didn't work for me - too much movement. Doc suggested trying soft lenses again, I've had those before, so I'm trying them again. I had to watch this video because I forgot how to clean soft lenses - glad he's here.
Yess!! I’ve been using Clear Care Plus for two years after my optometrist recommended it to keep the soft lenses from losing moisture throughout the month (from my understanding because I have dry eyes). I love it!
Can I use the water after soaking it for 6 hours … as a solution since I through away the previous in my case? Or do I make new solution? If yes for new solution, how can I make it?
I have been using clear care for a long long time… more than 15 years and it’s very good. I like that there are no preservatives. I just had to change to a complete all in one (I chose Solo care) because there appears to be a worldwide shortage of clear care on back order. I am noticing that yes my eyes are more moist but the contacts are getting cloudy off and on. Thanks for the video. I wanted to make sure I was cleaning the contacts properly.
I work at LensCrafters EyeCare. I also teach New Wearers on how to put it on. The key to this is to get over the natural reaction of blinking when an object, like your fingers are close to your eye. One you are over that hurdle, then the rest is about form!
Dr Allen thanks so much for all these videos; I went for years w/o glasses and now in my early 50’s I’m having to learn all manner of things about multifocal glasses and now exploring contacts. Wife and I lead very active life so I’m trying to find solution to good vision while still being able to do all the things we enjoy. 2nd day of multifocal contacts and not crazy happy with clarity so far but they said it takes a while (it did with the progressive glasses) so I’m sticking with it.
Good morning Dr Allen, I am a contact lens first time user and your videos have been very very helpful for me. The question I have for you today is that I had to go back to my Eye Dr about 4-5 times because they could not get/adjust a good sphere or power vision(?) so my eye Dr gave the multifocal assuming that because I'm a old dude but t I'm still not happy with my contacts, I can see 20/20 clear near like when sitting in my office desk, watching tv, or when eating but my major problem is that I cannot see far away objects like when being outside or driving, the vision is blurry. With regular glasses I can even read text as far as 150-200 feet depending on the size of the text but with these contacts I only distinguish large texts. What is going on? my glasses are cyl od -0.75 and os -0.25 and the contacts -0.25 and pl, why I can't see clearly with contacts? specially with my left eye, I'll very much appreciate any guide or assuring response. Thank you.
I use to clean my contact case with hot soapy water when I wore regular lenses that need to be taken out then I would have a fresh case everynight.. As a kid I use to get pink eye alot induced by my unfit contact lense wearing practices 😬 so once I started doing that and taking germs seriously with my eyes it never happened again.
Your videos are so informative and thorough! I work in optometry as a tech with the hopes of applying to optometry school in the future. The practice I previously worked for did not do a very good job at training, but I will be starting with a more professional practice next week! I have been watching your videos to acquire detailed information to become more comfortable and confident in educating/training future patients. Thank you for these videos!
My pro tip is not drying you hands with a towel after washing them before handling contacts so the fibers from the towel dont get in your eye. I just shake the water off.
I had the same problem.. What I did was..for 1 week,I didn't use contact lenses but cleaned it every day with plenty of solution.. And submerged it properly.. And at the end of the week the pain was gone.. I am not sure it will be working for you
I've been using contact lenses for a couple of years and I just learned how to clean them correctly 😅🙈thanks Dr.... I just have one question: Are we supposed to clean them even if we don't use them everyday or they can stay at the cases until the next use?🤔
You can likely find that in you solution’s instructions, but most solutions say that you can store your contacts in it for about a month without having to replace the liquid. But you still have to give them a proper rub and soak overnight.
I love you soooo much! You are a great help to all of us eye challenged people. Just a quick question, do i rub each side of my lenses for 20 seconds each? And do I rinse then for 10 secs per each side of a lens?
Clear Care is the best that I have tried. My contacts stay pretty comfortable for most of the month with no rubbing required. But more importantly, the satisfaction of seeing the bubbles still hasn't worn off for me. And just a silly observation that amuses me: I've seen a few videos showing how to use Clear Care that point out the "little R" in the corner of the blue basket, but I don't think I've seen anybody point out the much bigger L on the center of the other basket 😄
Thank you! Covered everything I needed in the first part of the video! I started thinking about different questions I had then you answered them all perfectly!
Hi @doctor eye health i was wondering what the lowest pescription or strength you can get from contact lenses as i am looking at contact lenses as i have a low prescription strength but get headaches.
This helped a lot I always rubbed the lens but I think I was rubbing them wrong, my contacts were so blurry and it didn’t make sense. I cleaned them like you said and I see so clearly!!!
I have the iClear case and it’s SUPER helpful. I dint have to worry about dropping my contacts in the sink and down the drain and thanks to the tweezers, plunger, and mirror it’s SUPER easy to pick up and put in contacts. The ultrasonic cleanse really helps and I highly recommend it 👌✨
I work in a vision center and we've heard if you use bio true and clear care it can dry out lenses we tell patients to use opti free. And with the clear care we recommend at least 8 hours not the 6 on the box.
I just started wearing contacts and I don’t know which brand to order , my dr was nice enough to give me a few trail pairs while I’m deciding but I’m clueless as which brand is best.
I just watched your video and it was very informative to me. I just got contacts for the first time yesterday so this morning I was unsure of my steps before putting them in. Your video answered all of my questions. Thank you.
I had noticed my eyes were super dry and my contacts were not sticking on my eye. I then started to properly take care of my contact lenses (actually rubbing it) and I realized that the contacts was much more comfortable to wear. Ps, I also suffered from an eye infection from wearing contaminated contact lenses. It definitely looks like a pink eye and it took about 2 days to get better.
To me the lenses deffintely feel way cleaner with a hydrogen peroxide solution but the contact also feel drier after having them in that solution. What I do is, I use the hydrogen peroxide solution once a week to get the lenses really clean and use the multi purpose solution during the week. I have no idea if there is any actual benefit to this but it certainly makes my contacts feel clean for the whole month instead of having them feel really uncomfortable for the last week or so.
I love “gizmos” and that little device looked cool to me!! My deal and don’t all of you laugh is that I’m new to contacts and I have the hardest time telling which way is inside out. I’m in there with two magnify glasses, my glasses on and a magnifying make up mirror that literally shows your pours breathing!! I’d love to wear daily’s but didn’t have great luck because of my lack of experience yet HATE being so worried about cleaning them. I had no idea how to clean them until this video.
Thanks for the info, I have a question! Do we rub and rinse the lenses only before putting them in or are we supposed to rub and rinse before putting in as well as before putting in case for the night? 🤔
When eye drops did not work well I tried Optifree Puremoist as an eyedrop and it worked and felt great. I leave a little inside the lens when I put it on and that seems to act as a lubricant and much better than a dry lens. However, I am trying daily lenses so that I can skip all this cleaning and storage.

So my doctor literally never taught me this been wearing lenses for 6 years and has never told me to rub them and he told me to use opti free. I'm thankfull im not a statistic. He said shaking them in the case for twenty seconds was enough. Thanks doc

Every video I’ve watched with you has been clear, informative, and gave me confidence. If I ever had to wear contacts daily, I know I could and would be able to take care of them thanks to you.
Coz of covid19 I didn't visit my doc and I ordered contacts for the first time..this video and other video on contacts for beginners really helped me
Made the switch to Peroxide solution and two weeks in I feel like I can wear my lenses for long hours without any discomfort. Previously I would have experienced discomfort from my lenses after the second or third wear. Not great when you have bi-weekly lenses. Thank you for making this video. Really happy to wear bi-weekly lenses following this simple change!
do you take them out of the special case and put them right in the your eyes or do you rinse them again in your palm?
@@boogabooga3837 I put them straight in, but only after waiting the minimum soaking time (usually 6 hours). You can rinse them with fresh saline solution, though the remaining solution after 6 hours of soaking in the case is saline. I’d say see which you prefer, just don’t rinse with the peroxide solution.
When I was 18 I scratched my cornea because I was wearing a contact with a small tear. I had to go to the ER. Doesn’t sound serious it it was excruciatingly painful.
Ouch! I have seen that before! Glad things turned out OK for you.
Yeah I had a contact that was a tiny bit torn and it bothered me bad, like an eyelash in your eye
A scratch on the eye is the worst pain a person can feel in my opinion

Do the Bio True, and Puremoist use the little basket thing?
I have just gotten my first contacts and want to know if I can leave my contacts case air dry ALL day while I have the contact on? Another question is, is it not better to let the case air dry upside down?
First answer, yes but not that important, second answer, no. One more thing, rinsing is bs, dont have to do it, never did it and im fine
Actually gonna start wearing contacts now, I've been inspired.
very informative and his eyes are just awesome
Glad you like them! Thanks for the comment!
I talked to my mom about contacts about 15 minutes ago, and this video came up on my home page.
I appreciate this, though. Because I didn't know any of this, and you explain it very well!
Your fbi agent cares about you my homie
I only just started wearing contacts at aged 49 and your vids helped tremendously because putting them in was such a pain initially! I'd like to ask, if its ok to use the hydrogen peroxide once a week (or every few days) and normal lens solution at other times?? Is it ok to mix your solution this way?
how long can u keep the lenses in the solution before replacing the solution? i have color contacts that i dont wear daily
This was so helpful, thank you so much. U explain it better than my contact lense advisor
You are the best doctor. I just love the way you explain everything. Thank you
I'm currently on contacts both soft and hard as one of my eyes has a keratoconus condition. Ive been prescribed with the
AO SEPT PLUS hydrogen peroxide cleaner and it does so much wonders on my vision and it really helps clean the lenses x
This explains why I got an eye infection in my right eye out of nowhere...
How long did you wear them before getting it??
I use daily lenses now, but used to use the Hydrogen Peroxide System and did feel it does a better job than just the Lense Solution..
Dailies all the way! What daily do you wear now?
Love clear care! Important note though. I've had experiences where I rinsed off my contacts with a different contact disinfecting solution and then put it in the clear care case/solution and it caused an overreaction to bubble up too much and overflow/not have enough solution covering the lenses.
Awesome solution but be careful with reactions. Especially the HydraGlyde, that one is more finicky than the classic one!
Thanks for the input Christian! I agree. I honestly feel I have heard more people have issues with Hydraglyde but the Alcon company went ahead and switched all their air optix lenses to it as well.
@@DoctorEyeHealth Hydraglyde is garbage!!! I'm glad they still make the regular version.
@@mikeholmes6160 Hydraglyde coated my lenses. I had to toss them.
I love it!
It's nice because it is preservative free and some people dont do well with preservatives
Yeah I heard about the shortage too
I don’t have contacts yet but I’m getting some very soon seven watching all the content videos.
Glad your finding the channel so helpful!
I work at LensCrafters EyeCare. I also teach New Wearers on how to put it on. The key to this is to get over the natural reaction of blinking when an object, like your fingers are close to your eye. One you are over that hurdle, then the rest is about form!
@@DoctorEyeHealth hi looking through my new contacts milky hazy ...idk why...great video
I am alergic to some contact lense solutions,my eyes sting from the moment i put them on.What could be the problem? I am wesring hard contact lense
Exactly
I think that may be my issue. I'll try this for sure!
I usually rinse my hands with saline and shake them dry before handling my lenses.
@@chootybeeks1088 u can just pat dry with tissue
Tried it made my eyes feel dry after 8hrs of wearing my contacts ! Your video really helped me to confirm that the product was’nt for me!

Try eyedrops your eyes might not be lubricated enough
I had the same problem.. What I did was..for 1 week,I didn't use contact lenses but cleaned it every day with plenty of solution.. And submerged it properly.. And at the end of the week the pain was gone.. I am not sure it will be working for you
Get daily contact lenses, and you will be fine.
Thank you for your videos. I got contacts for the first time yesterday and I felt fully prepared thanks to you.
I love the clean care!!!! It makes it so much easier to keep them clean!!!!!
I honestly like the bubbles 😊
@@DoctorEyeHealth The case is like a dishwasher, deep cleans them lenses like dishes :)
Hey DR.A.......do you recommend a daily cleaner as well prior to soaking/disinfecting with ClearCare plus?
Hi @doctor eye health
i was wondering what the lowest pescription or strength you can get from contact lenses as i am looking at contact lenses as i have a low prescription strength but get headaches.
The ultrasonic cleanse really helps and I highly recommend it 👌✨
Is it safe to use the tools in the long run? will it not cause infection?
I work in a vision center and we've heard if you use bio true and clear care it can dry out lenses we tell patients to use opti free. And with the clear care we recommend at least 8 hours not the 6 on the box.
I just started wearing contacts and I don’t know which brand to order , my dr was nice enough to give me a few trail pairs while I’m deciding but I’m clueless as which brand is best.
I just watched your video and it was very informative to me. I just got contacts for the first time yesterday so this morning I was unsure of my steps before putting them in. Your video answered all of my questions. Thank you.
Please recommend type of lenses for me, I am using frsh look contact lenses for last 12 years.. now I am looking for some more quality
The instructions I have say to just rinse them when putting them in, but both rub/rinse after you take them out before they go into the case.
Hope you have success with the daily option. What brand(s) are you trying?
@@DoctorEyeHealth Total 1 (5.50) from Sam's Club! Seem really good and putting them in is no problem, but taking them out is challenging. I am going to try the press the eyelid against the edge of the lens method. Support from the Sam's doc in a box is marginal. I will talk to my HMO optometrist if I don't find a solution. (Sam's was an insurance decision).

Have used Clear Care for decades and love it!!
Nice! What do you like about it specifically?
@@DoctorEyeHealth Mostly that it's preservative-free. I've worn contacts for almost 30 years and my eyes seem to have become more sensitive over time. Plus the fact that I can actually see the cleaning action gives me confidence the product is doing it's job.

I recently got contacts from olens, but I want to know for monthly contacts can I skip days or wearing them? Idk if that made sense but can I not wear them everyday and mix my contacts with my glasses?
Did you got the answer?Even i want to know this!!
yes u can! your contact lenses can sit in the case with the same solution for over a month then make sure to change it (if u ever bought 6months or yearly contacts)
So my doctor literally never taught me this been wearing lenses for 6 years and has never told me to rub them and he told me to use opti free. I'm thankfull im not a statistic. He said shaking them in the case for twenty seconds was enough. Thanks doc
Is there any contact lenses that can be use for long hours of working on computer ?
I have been wearing daily lenses for 2 years and I've only started watching this bc I'm interested in switching over to monthly but after watching this I'm convinced to bear the high cost of dailies so I don't have to clean my lenses every night 🙃 and risk not doing it properly and get an infection

If it feels like you got an eyelash in your eye, it's just you not being used to having them on.
