    Just as a heads up this technique using a denman brush most likely won’t work if you have strictly 2a-2c strictly wavy/loose wavy hair. I do have a loose curl pattern or some 3a curls forming. This just aids in helping train those curls through transitioning after heat or bleach damage (that I am still trying to grow out and later cut off)
    As always, what works for me may not work for others. I’m just here to share what gives me good results.

      It actually works I have 2A wavy hair and twisting method works to add waves to my hair. It won't add coils as my hair is not actually curly and it gets straight after one day but it has a slightly wavy shape which works for me :)

    I love this because my curls are really uneven. Spring curls underneath and then it gets gradually loose curls on top. Top back layers are just lazy and frizzy waves. It’s really frustrating. I’m definitely going to try this because since I cut my hair short, I’ve been struggling to find the right style to wear so I won’t have to damage it by straightening every day. Thank you!!!

    It seems like a huge part of your results are based on your cut more than just your process. Since you are a stylist, would you be willing to do a video that discusses your cut? There are not a lot of haircut videos for 2c/3a hair.

  • @MMMMGood15

    What an amazing transition of your curls with your wet to dry routine! I purchased my first Denman brush a few months ago and I am still practicing. I just turned 70 and I looked like a Victorian school girl with banana curls after using. Not the look I was going for. LOL! I am thinking I need to get a better haircut. I have not had any layers cut in it for almost 2 years and while it’s pretty....I am thinking layers might free up some more curl. It’s SO hard to find someone who really knows and understands my curly hair since every single one of us has a different pattern/texture/density etc! I have a new stylist (who also has curly hair herself) and she just did a trim for the first time she cut my hair....and I am due to go back for something more “substantial”. Would love to hear your thoughts about layers and curly hair! I enjoyed your video, well done! Thanks!

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому +6

      It absolutely can! Especially through air drying. But, for me, I will begin touching it during diffusing when my roots are dry and the rest is more than 50% dry. I prefer volume so a little halo frizz doesn’t bother me.

      SHREYA DAS I’m 40 years old my whole life in middle school and high school throughout college yes I cannot stop touching my hair wet or dry and it caused tons of frizz. They didn’t come out with the straighteners they have now the pro ones for consumers until I was in my twenties so I was in heaven but after I started using the curly girl method it’s a miracle a life saver now I can touch it wet or dry and no frizz so much definition to especially with finger coiling I haven’t done the denman brushes yet but man get your hair healthy w cgm and brush and touch all you want 😚

      I went years (at least 15 years) without brushing or combing my curls beyond just my fingers. My hair stylist introduced me to the denman brush about a year ago & it changed my life. I only use it to distribute product & make sure all my curls are nice & smooth. It helps with clumping & getting my hair parted well & my hair in the direction I want it styled (if that makes sense).

    Wow! Looks like a very hair-friendly way to create soft curls! I find it hard to believe there’s no need to pin the damp curls in any way, must give it a try. Does this only work on short or medium hair?

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому +1

      This is typically meant for someone who naturally has curl or wave to their hair. Which is why pinning isn’t needed. This type of styling helped me when I was still transitioning from color damage.

    I’m not familiar with the “2c3a” term. Can you explain?
    My hair is straight and VERY fine and is layered.
    But I LOVE volume so I‘ve always gotten perms to give me
    more fullness and control.
    Do you think your technique would work with my kind of hair that is permed?
    Thank you. 😊

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому

      It could depending on how your perm is done. You just need to figure out which direction each section wants to go and twirl it the direction it wants to go. 👍🏻😊

    ATTENTION: if you have very long and very thick hair, this technique won’t work unfortunately. I just tried it and it ruined my wash day :/. I couldn’t twist, because of I do and the rest of the section (very small section) get STUCK and it a struggle to remove the hair from the brush ending with giving me LOTS of fall out, tangles and frizz. Also the tugging was UNREAL and my hair wouldn’t detach from the brush!!! I got more definition with twisted my parts together like a bread but two sections I did four all around my hair than this technique. Unfortunately even finger coiling doesn’t give me much definition. What gives me definition is applying my products head down and squish them.
    My hair type is between 2b 2c and 3a. Since I’m just transitioning I have all types of curls. I lost definition from always having it straight.

    Thank you, for making this video! Unrelated note, AND you've probably heard this at least once before: at first glance you look a whole lot like Julia Garner! Hell of a compelling talent, she is! Her acting is outstanding. It DOES do a lot too, that she is gorgeous and sensual AND very sharp (smart) and subtle with ALL her gifts (ie not arrogant, or assuming). Which all makes her more likeable. So, even though, we do not know you and there'll be no way to get to know you, cannot tell who and how you are on the inside. But, let's just say, you've already got A LOT going for you and we DO hope you use all of these "gifts" constructively AND in a positive way. That is, to use your "presence" and "influence" to bring light and understanding and selfless compassion, to others who look to you. I say this because, with even just a little attention, it can get so, so easy for The Ego to be lured into its unlikeable side - arrogance, self-obsession, intolerance and condescension of others. Let's hope this is NOT the dominant energy surrounding the path Your soul takes! At the same time, I will also say for the sake of reminding, please DO NOT allow anyone communicating with you here, to deflate your spirit, or undermine your best intentions. Stay centred on the light within you (in so doing, you coukd never go wrong AND doing this just makes a person more versatile and "sensitive" / "intelligent"!). And remember to NOT forget how blessed you are, to now have a platform through which to positively (or negatively) impact the thoughts, decisions, actions of others. Be reminded and stay aware that there will ALWAYS be detractors and naysayers, just for the sake of recycling toxicity (but that is their karma (crisis) to dissolve, NOT yours. And even if directed at you, you SHOULD NOT take it to heart, because it is neither their place, nor their right, to cast aspersions on you!). Keep your head up, serve the light inside you and humble yourself enough to that light that you fulfil your purpose to. At the same time, DO NOT humble yourself to anyone's twisted ego, or corrupt purpose, within him / herself. Ler that person work out all that with his / her creator. NOT try to vent any of that, on you. On top of all that good stuff, you've got celebrity looks! Good for you! Keep going! Wishing you a successful 2022!

      I just got a hair cut today at a normal salon and it turned out great. I have waves from 2a on top, to 3a underneath. I got my hair cut an inch below my shoulder and a lot of short layers for volume. When I got home, I wetted my hair, put some gel in, and then scrunched. But if you're looking for volume, you MUST diffuse. I diffused for the first time and I had SO much volume. I diffused from when my hair was really damp to when my hair was 90% dry. I hope this helps

    Is the denman D3 same as d3n? I’m finding the d3n doesn’t brush out very smoothly

    Your way of showing how to an explanation is so on point an laid back. Your hair is gorgeous. An you have such a sweet an beautiful personality that it is what truly makes me love your videos!! I'm so happy I found your channel!! 😍 I'm in transition big time. I literally use to be more of 3c hair but, due to health issues my hair is more 2c to 3a now an I have about half the hair I use to have. Good thing it use to be so dense and thicker. Also I only started the cgm about 3 or 4 months ago now. An you've been a huge help! Thank you much for that!! 💚

    Do u think this would work on naturally straight hair? My hair looks about the same thickness as yours but I have little to no natural curl. How much of this method depends on having a already natural curl?? Imma little confused.

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому

      Yes you do have to have some type of loose curl at least for this technique. But you should look into the curly girl method if you have some type of wave and its not stick straight.

    Do you find, having a looser curl pattern, that your hair doesn't like to be brushed? The more I brush my hair outside the shower, the more pulled out my curls become. I've tried this technique but only while my hair was loaded with conditioner. Am I being irrational? Thoughts?

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  5 років тому +2

      Not really. I’ve done both ways and it doesn’t seem to make a difference for me. Brushing keeps my hair strands in the right clumps and keeps frizz from happening. 🤗

    It would take me just as long with a curling wand. What's the point of This? Less heat since she just used the blow dryer?

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому +2

      This is a technique for people with a natural loose curl or naturally curly hair. This won’t work for naturally straight hair. And yes I only use heat on my hair with a blow dryer. I haven’t used a curling iron or flat iron for almost two years. 😮 and my hair is looooving me for it ☺️🙌🏻

    The result is amazing but I'm not understanding why this is faster than finger coiling since it seems you're essentially just finger coiling... with a tool.

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому +2

      It gives me a completely different look compared to finger coiling. I find with this technique I was able to take bigger sections. Finger coiling didn’t work well with bigger sections for me personally. So that’s why it’s faster for me. Any pieces I felt like weren’t going to hold I assisted with my fingers but only in stubborn areas not the whole head.

    It looks like you also have fine thin hair like mine so what do you ask you stylist for layers or what because I could do this with some practice my hair just needs the right cut and I have a great stylist I just need to be able to covey the correct language.....help me please.lol

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому +1

      I have a more finer texture but I have a lot of it. I have quite a bit of layers. If you have a lower density of hair then I would get to many layers because you don’t want your perimeter (bottom of your hair) to look too sparse. Hope this makes sense and helps a little.

    You don't need the brush to do that - you're barely brushing it at all. Just twirl it in your fingers and you will get the same result.

      Finger coiling and denman coiling give me two different results. I prefer this result than my result with finger coiling.

    Hi I have 4c hair will the brush help. It goes where it wants to

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому

      It could potentially! But probably use it in a different way. You could try it this way but would have to take smaller sections. The other way you could use it is simply brushing the section with the brush and flicking your wrist downward slowly. Ive done this on a 4b client and got awesome definition. Making sure each section is plenty went and with product. This will help define more while the product will moisturize, define, and hold. I hope that makes sense.

    your so lucky you can finger comb through your hair like that...I can't, any tips around the brush when you can't do that first?

    • @KristynJoanne
      @KristynJoanne  4 роки тому

      I used a wide tooth comb when my hair was very long and tangled easily. I know there are brushes out there people like to use. The wet brush is the typical one I use. I only use a comb or brush if there is conditioner in my hair or some type of product when wet. It used to take me 30 min to detangle when my hair was to my waist 😖
