Congrats on 2500+ subscribers! Awesome that the first Kix album was included, I feel like that album is underrated. Some of my favorites from 81 and 82 are Ozzy- Diary of a Madman, Riot - Fire Down Under & Restless Breed, BÖC- Fire of Unknown Origin, Saxon - Denim and Leather, Survivor - Premonition & Eye of the Tiger, Accept - Breaker & Restless and Wild, the first two Venom albums, Michael Schenker Group- MSG & Assault Attack, Iron Maiden - Killers & The Number of the Beast, Black Sabbath - Mob Rules, GBH - City Baby Attacked By Rats, Vandenberg - S/T, Raven's first two albums.
Shit, sorry about the late response. Damn, I am shocked I never included a Survivor album--especially Vital Signs, which is a fuckin' AOR masterpiece. I haven't spent much time with the early Michael Schenker stuff, I probably need to. Damn, you always have bands in your list that are new to me... fuckin' awesome. Thanks again, Matt, you are an integral part of this channel, and your support is HUGE for me.
81 82 was more of a NWOBHM period for me but still there was a bunch of great early hair metal records that kicked ass. Great show Guru and congrats on sub numbers

Hey, Brother, it makes me eternally grateful to know that this channel does something to brighten your day. I mean that. Glad you had a good day, and I pray that many more come your way....
Man its great to hear these old bands again. Yeah some of the bands have been forgotten, I remember Night Ranger being big and Survivor getting big back then and Lover Boy.
1981-82 were incredible years in the metal and hard rock worlds. Here are 10 of my favorites : Black Sabbath - Mob Rules Judas Priest - Screaming For Vengeance Accept - Restless And Wild Van Halen - Fair Warning Rush - Moving Pictures Manilla Road - Metal Cirith Ungol - Frost And Fire Y & T - Black Tiger Saxon - Denim And Leather Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast
You both are so right, about those pre-hair metal bands. I refer to the 79-83 bands as "crossover era". They were too late to be part of the 70s scene like Kiss, Boston, Aerosmith, and too early to be Quiet Riot, Motley Crue etc. They tended to have subdued distortion on their guitar, shorter scrappier hair. So Sammy Hagar, Loverboy, Foreigner... stuff like that. Crossover Era.
My List: Kix - Kix Cacumen - Cacumen - Lead vocals of Bonfire Van Halen - Fair Warning Def Leppard - High 'n' Dry Billy Squier - Don't Say No Foreigner - 4 Iron Maiden - Killers Slade - Till Deaf Do Us Part ZZ Top - El Loco Bullet - Execution - ok you just turned me on to this and listening to it now but it still makes the list
Great list, man--damn, I have never heard of Cacumen, I need to check that out. Glad you got into Bullet, Brother, that is awesome. Thanks for watching and supporting what I do!

I've always said that One on One by Cheap Trick is one of the greatest hair metal albums ever. I mainly clicked on this to see if this album made the list (and to make sure that the Kix debut was mentioned).
Bryan Adams recently recorded his own versions of the 2 songs he co-wrote for "Creatures of the Night" . "Rock and Roll Hell" is up on Spotify right now and it sounds great! I'm sure "War Machine" will be up soon.
Hey Guru, you mentioned Cheap Trick. And the song She's Tight. Listen to talk dirty to me by Poison. Same riff. They totally ripped it off. Lol. Still like both songs though. Peace.
Yeah, Poison was never too shy about stealing from other people--I knew about I Want Action, but now that I listen to She's Tight... holy fuck, you're right! Thanks for making me aware of that...
I bought Loverboy’s “Just Gettin Started” on the day it was released back in 2007 and it is one of their best albums and one of if not the best album of 2007. As for “Big Ones”, I bought it in late 1989 and there are three new incredible tracks that were on this album alongside the previous hits. “Too Hot” was great but don’t miss out on the other two songs “Ain’t Lookin’For Love” and especially “For You” which is absolutely killer!!

Kix was a band that always delivered the goods live. One of my favorite shows was Kix at the Limelight in NYC. They really didn’t come into their own until Midnight Dynamite. The first two albums were meh except for The Itch, Pioson, Yeah Yeah Yeah and For Shame. Guru, since you’re a ballad fan, revisit For Shame on Cool Kids.
I didn't see Kix live until a couple years ago... which fuckin' pisses me off, but, damn, they were still amazing. Listening to For Shame now--completely forgot about this song, thanks for the reminder, man.

Screaming for Vengeance is not really what i would call Hair metal (it is my 4th favorite priest album lol) though i can see it .Then again my favorite songs are the title track and Electric Eye and neither of which are what i consider glammy or poppy . But i generally prefer speedy maniacal priest (Painkiller, the Sentinel ,The RIpper, Sinner etch ,so the songs that far more influenced thrash). But Priest is so important to almost all metal subgenres of course they deserve to be on here .
No, shit, you're right, I don't consider Judas Priest hair metal, they're just a great fucking heavy metal band, but we tend to include almost any rock and metal in these videos. Thanks for watching, Brother.

Hair metal was born with 1974's desolation blvd. album, quiet riot, dokken and ratt and many more are literally mid 70's bands
I can see that point of view.
I would even say "Set Me Free" from 1973's Sweet Fanny Adams invented hair metal (even before AC/DC existed).
