That's because Broadcasting Executives didn't accept the way that Van Halen kicked the door in on the industry. Didn't matter though, we all know they were #1.
Ya. I get it that these aren't what the mainstream wants to hear, but as a VH fan since 80 this is where it is at! My friends fave song and my 3rd gave. Whole album is great. Heck. To me the first 6 albums were great.

Nobody in this band was slacking here for sure. Michael and Alex tend to get overlooked, but everybody's giving 100%. But at least he mentioned Mike's harmonies on vocals😂.
Their best album, imo! You would love the whole thing. 🤘🤘Sinner's Swing, Dirty Movies, Unchained...so much funk, groove and hard rockin throughout. Please keep going, Mugs!! Thanks.
"Hear about it later" and "Push comes to shove" are my absolute favorites. And if I had a coming-down-to-the-ring song it would be "Sunday afternoon in the park"!
DLR in one of his Rogan interviews talks about when they were playing local bars, having to play pop, rock, funk, disco and whatever the club owners wanted, and having to master all those styles.
That intro came about when Eddie Van Halen wondered what would happen if you did slap bass technique on guitar. He was a constant experimenter and was always trying new things on guitar. This song is also a great example of Eddie's prowess as a rythym player. It goes without saying he was a monster lead guitarist, but his rythym skills are often overlooked.
Yes, if you get down to it Eddie was really a music geek, happy experimenting with new things. I sometimes wonder what would have happened if he'd have ended up in some progressive rock band like Rush, Yes or ELP. Maybe I smoke too much weed😂.
Hey M, back in 1983, i used to bump this loud out of my 68 Cal Style VW in the parking lot of my high school when we would leave for lunch and then coming back, and the school security used to always give me shit for playing my rock music to LOUD ! those were the days ...
Those were the days!!!! I’m sure every generation feels theirs was the best but in this case I feel confident, the world will never see another musical era like ours!!!
One of my favorite Van Halen songs. Glad you liked it so much!! I've had Eddie's opening riff to this song as my phone's ringtone for like 15 years, lol
I think what makes reaction videos so popular, especially on songs like this one, is people are able to relive hearing it for the first time through someone else. We've heard it dozens of times and love it, but can never have that first experience again, and let's face it, everyone we hang out with has already heard it, too. It's what makes it fun.
Fair Warning was said to be a message to Dave that he was on the verge of being fired. Even if not true, this whole album plays as angry and raw. Eddie was on fire, Alex pounded the skins, Michael's harmony vocals are perfect, and DLR had serious soul and richness to his lead vocals.
Untrue, there was friction over which direction to take there music but there wasn’t any firings or issues Michael Anthony said this is his favorite album
This was Van Halen at their absolute peak. Having received their Fair Warning release when it first hit the shelves in 1981...when I dropped the needle on the first groove of that killer opener of " Mean Street ", I was hooked for life. This cut really defined my tough teen years. Well into my adult years. This was Eddie at his absolute finest. Before Dave sold out to himself.
Every song in this LP was incredible. Sumner of 1981 my buddy bought this on 8 track for his car and with a booster and my stereo speakers in the back seat we jammed to this lp all summer.
When this album dropped it changed everything for me regarding music and storytelling. To this day some of the best concerts I've ever seen, even if I have absolutely lost a portion of my hearing from their excessive concerts in the 80's; if you know you know.
This Man definitely gets it!!! Especially getting off on the outro!!! Pure brilliance. Most reactions talk through it. Likely the best part of the song. Love that you replayed it! You da man!!!
My absolute favorite VH song. I was 12 years old when I first heard this in 1981. My sis bought the cassette on a vacation road trip to Montana. We were rockin' out! Seen them 5 times with Dave, 5 with Sammy. All killer! Check out Unchained, from the same album, and Top Jimmy from 1984 album. They rock!
Van Halen's best album, so of course, the one that sold the least and panned by lots of critics.Eddie Van Halen at his best, wrote and performed most of this album in seclusion and cocaine crazy, arranged ,recorded and mastered by genius's, so wonderfully balanced. I love how short(sort of) this song is, give you a taste and wanting more.
Love this stuff so much, one thing VH always had is a really damned strong groove. You could pick a song at random and always find something interesting in it. Check out Runnin' With The Devil for a great all-rounder on their sound with the first singer (David Lee Roth) - They changed directions with Sammy Hagar and it's like a different but equally awesome band
Im 52 now but back in the day this would be blasting out of the speakers of my 78 Trans Am, t-tops out, cruising the mean streets of Philly in the late 80s and early 90s. Brings back good memories. I was also jamming some Run DMC, LL Cool J, and NWA. I listened to it all. Still do. Check out Van Halen's Tattoo and Me Wise Magic. Great songs that Van Halen did with David Lee Roth on vocals later on after the Sammy Hagar years.
This was the album Edward said he released a lot of pent-up, pissed off energy on. Saw them live in' 81, on this tour. First thing that caught my eye when the lights went up, was the massive mountain of P.A. speakers right in the middle of a busy city street backdrop. Edward was primed from the start, wasnt even wearing a shirt when he hit the stage. Mind blowing show.❤️
Classic Kick-Ass Van Halen. I was in high school when I first heard this album. I believe I owned the vinyl LP. Every song is great on this record during their darkest effort. Ed was getting married, the beginning of a power struggle, drugs, alcohol issues etc. Read the book, Running with the Devil. Eye opening if you're a DLR-era VH fan.
I was 12 years old, we built a quarter pipe, for skateboarding, it went to vertical, we were having fun, trying to get to the top. A local newspaper reporter came by. I was delivering papers, I was on the front. We were inspired by this album, back when you had albums. 1978.
I grew up listening g to VH. I’m 56 years old and I still crank Van Halen!! I’m partial to David Lee Roth Van Halen as that’s what grew up with. (80’s child) Eddie’s passing still stings. Enjoy the Van Halen experience, it’s amazing!!
I'm 55 but back in 1981 when this came out, our whole neighborhood went to the local department store and misappropriated an 8-Track of Fair Warning, the new album from our favorite band Van Halen. The 30 minute walk home along rail road tracks was awesome, as we took turns checking out the album cover. That 8 track blared on an old player we kept stacked with batteries all summer at the playground. Not one bad song and arguably the best guitar rock album ever. It made us tough in the Mean Streets of Carbondale Pennsylvania. Great times until Sammy Hagar replaced David Lee Roth on vocals and their sound went top 40 rock
As much attention as Edward was given for his guitar work, he always always always turned the spotlight away, and praised his big brother, Alex, for his work behind the drum kit. Reverend Al had his favorite drummers, and now he's one of your favorite drummer's favorite drummers. He had a way of sounding like he was playing fast and loose, which he had to do in order to keep Ed's guitar tethered to the Earth or it might wander off into the cosmos and they'd never finish a song. The brothers played with an uncanny connection, able to embellish each others' musical phrasings as though Al was playing the guitar part on the drums and Ed was playing drum parts on the guitar. The more you listen, the more you'll hear and appreciate that aspect of the band. Every member of the band was overloaded with talent, effectively making it a Supergroup. Enjoying your reactions to Van Halen, the GOAT of Rock bands.
Being a guitar player Eddie was a big influence. Alex ,the drummer I thought, never got the recognition he should. He complimented Eddie’s guitar style so much. I don’t think a lot of their songs would have been as good if it wasn’t for Alex.
Hell yeah this whole album is the bomb, straight up Southern California LA, Pasadena, Hollywood, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Del Mar, La Joya, Clairmont, Mission Beach, Ocean Beach, Ocean Side, Spring Valley, South East San Diego, , Lomita Village, Skyline Park, , Lincon Park, Logan heights, Sherman heights, Linda Vista, Old town, Lakeside, El Cajon, all over Cali, that’s this album
i remember the day i heard this, having brought it home from the record store. I purchased it with Billy Squier, Don't Say No . Another amazing full on classic record. You should take a listen to something off of that as well. Every VH record for a while, had some groundbreaking guitar work on it. Glad you enjoyed this and discovered the amazing VH.
Mugs We have to give thanks to Gene Simmons (Demon from KISS) recommended Mammoth (original name for Van Halen) a record deal with Warner Bros. Band realize that Mammoth was already registered from another band. So, original frontman, David Lee Roth suggested Eddie and Alex use their last name as their band, Van Halen. They had iconic engineer named Ted Templeman work on their albums. They recorded albums with DLR to last album, 1984. During 1984, there were issues between DLR and Eddie. Eddie wanted go different direction in his music while DLR wanted guitar-based music. DLR left the band in 1985 for his solo music. Knowing DLR not returning, Eddie gotten veteran frontman, Sammy Hagar to continue their music, nicknamed, "Van Hagar". Then Sammy left the band for his solo stuff as he did prior to joining VH. Both DLR and Sammy reunited with VH on few occasions. Then DLR rejoined VH and Eddie had his only child, Wolfgang on Bass leaving out Michael Anthony) Both Sammy and Michael were not happy, but Eddie stated that he wanted his son in the band playing together. VH recorded last album in 2012. No one except Van Halen family knew Eddie was dealing with cancer. He fought his illness until 2020; Eddie died from cancer.
Thank you, young man, for the memories. Remember the first time hearing this riding around in my friends Mustang. This was way back in 1981. It never gets old. Van Halens 'best" album! 👍

💯👍🏻
got that right.....i saw them on this tour...in june at the boston gardens...i was 16 😋👍
An absolutely classic. Love this album.
This not really remastered brother, guitar is right in you face, not in the back.
Every classic VH album was a masterclass in not only guitar, but attitude, songwriting and swagger. Loved those days.
This is the best Van Halen. Y'all can keep your Jump.
@@PANIC_aka_PinD How do you get that with Jump? You get that is DLR singing?
All other VanHalen songs are better than "Jump"
ABSOLUTELY.
Yeah we ain't into those Jump ass Keyboards.
You picked the single lamest Van Halen song to call out…and even still jump is a decent song
I cannot believe this song was not a major hit of The Mighty Van Halen, however, for the true VH fans... it's one of their best!!!
This song got a lot of airplay on Philly radio when it came out.
Proof that 80 % of folks can't handle the best music. They want something softer, simpler...
That's because Broadcasting Executives didn't accept the way that Van Halen kicked the door in on the industry.
Didn't matter though, we all know they were #1.
The whole album wasn't a hit. They had to pay radio stations to play songs off it.

Love it when David Lee Roth sings "Lord, strike that poor boy down" and Eddie strikes with a zap of guitar lightning!
I was thinking the exact same thing as I was listening!
Gives me goosebumps. 😅
@@KRUZradio That’s been giving me goosebumps over 40 years!
yeah that pick slide was pure aggressive precision in its attack for sure.
ELECTRIC!!!
This album was from 1981. Probably remastered in 2015. Amazing album. All 4 band members at the top of their game!!!
Bought all the remastered CD's for the car way back when but ended up recording my original vinyl to disc instead 'cause the remasters were lacking that _edge!_
The guitar work on this album is sick. Eddie's tone is untouchable here.
100%. Masterpiece.
Big Mike lay'n down those fat ass bass lines. Crushed it!!!!
100%
Nobody in this band was slacking here for sure. Michael and Alex tend to get overlooked, but everybody's giving 100%.
But at least he mentioned Mike's harmonies on vocals😂.
Mike is often underappreciated and overlooked, he deserves his due. He was a monster player and his vocals were incredible.
Their best album, imo! You would love the whole thing. 🤘🤘Sinner's Swing, Dirty Movies, Unchained...so much funk, groove and hard rockin throughout. Please keep going, Mugs!! Thanks.
Oh man.. I was just going to say the same 2. :)
Saved me the typing. Hah
It was a great time to be 15 back then.
Hear about it later is also a nice track off the album (Fair Warning)
31 minutes and change of 80s awesomness!
"Hear about it later" and "Push comes to shove" are my absolute favorites. And if I had a coming-down-to-the-ring song it would be "Sunday afternoon in the park"!
Hear About It Later
This is one of my favorite Van Halen songs!!! Thanks for the reaction!!!

Damn right. This is their best album. I was a kid, 11 years old when I heard this in 1981, but still listen today.
Check out their debut album. That's the real ticket.
Same here, same age too. I just haven’t listened to this on in a very long time. I’d forgotten how bad ass this was. 🎶🤘😎⚡️🎸
Pretty much same. Born late Dec 68
Eddies dad was a jazz musician and mom was classically trained, VH is the offspring. I love it!
