i disagree, trujillo is a great player in his own right, just not a great fit for the style, in this song his sound is not complementary to the guitars, it just creates a muddy drone when the duet of guitars plays, unlike cliff’s version that actually creates a background of sound so the guitars flow into , and he plays as he likes the parts that are suppose to have a lot of clarity and detail, all the arpeggios are not played as original, overall i think ulrich also destroys this rendition with his lack of accuracy on the bass drum or lack therof, also addign fills at every step to cover his mistakes, in general their sound as. a band is bad, hard to understand for such big band, the guitars for example have almost no process added, no slight delay or effects such as compression or anything, at least is not apparent as they sound raw and the fact that kirk skill has been in decline doesn’t help either, it is very clear to hear many mistakes in his solos specially. MarkBass 96 i mean i agree with you, But music still is music. If you think about artists back in the day, they also focused on one main catch. Think the beatles, they basically wrote a catchy melody for 95% of the songs and then just repeated that. I dont think music is any worse now than it was then. I find, that especially pop is the best its been since the 80s/90s.
@ Yeah, hes in the zone. Plus its not like its a difficult song to play. I'd be more worried being Kirk or James with the more complex guitar parts to get right. Or Lars with the off time drum parts than I would be playing Rob's parts.
Rapportus5 I agree with you hear. If you watch James’ foot he’s keeping time with Lars’ snare, and this song has an offbeat transition at the end of each section in the main riff. So I tried it and keeping a gallop downpick going while keeping time with lars’ snare isn’t fucking easy by any stretch of the imagination.
Rapportus5 it’s still playing cliffs bass primary song that changed the meaning of a bass guitar in a band. rob has to live up to cliff so to say it would be a lot of pressure to get it right lol
When Metallica plays Orion live, the gods in heaven all fall silent to let Cliff hear his masterpiece being carried on by these wonderful musicians. Rest in peace Cliff Burton, you will be missed forever.
Poseidon yes you’re right it was 1982. I was thinking he joined at the same time as Kirk for some reason, but I remember the shows that he played with Mustaine in late 82, early 83.
James Hetfield played bass on Metal Massacre 1 (and Rhythm guitar and vocals), Ron McGovney was bassist from 1981-82, and Bob Rock was bassist on St. Anger (yet another reason to hate that album)
I love how these guys honor the legacy of Cliff so much. Even decades after his passing, they remember where they came from and who helped get them where they are. It's beautiful.
Metallica is everything from lyrical masterpieces to instrumental marvels..from whenever to now..it's all relevant and just so fucking great...makes my life so much better..they must know how much how they affect so much of us.

This song is so amazing the harmonies, the solos, the bass ... Rob always doing an awesome job!!! Cliff you're so missed bro!!!! And thanks Kirk for being my most big guitar influence the firs musician that I said "I wanna be like him and play like him!!!" You'll be my guitar God 'till I left this world!
Hammett writes the lead parts, yes. He did get lessons from Joe Satriani .Burton had a huge influence on all members of the band & was the main catalyst for writing those epic guitar harmonies on the lightning & puppets zlbums though because he had classical music training. Burton wrote Orion originally as an 8 min ending to Sanitarium
Hammett was the reason why I picked up a guitar at 9 years old hoping to one day shred like he did in the early years. He gets alot of flak for being too wah pedal happy these days, but you can't deny his talent and influence.
What a masterful performance, we can see how James feels this one, the Way he plays is awesome, rob is a God On bass, very good tribute to cliff, the band was On point. Long life Metallica!
Amen, metallica is what made music is today. People dont realize how music has developed. Without metallica there would be no diversity. You know why. The people you're watching didnt conform to the social norm. James lars and kirk love music and they appreciate music and the dynamic of the world. People listen to kill em all and them master of puppets original classics. Then listen to ONE and the NOTHING SE MATTERS this band is timeless. Lets not forget enter sandman aswell who else can have a degree of substance to sat that this band is if not the best 80's band to ever come to this planet. I want to challenge this person and say well my good friend have you ever experienced the best metal band that this face of the earth has have had the privelage to hear it is here and it is now!
one of the things i really like about this song is in the interlude.....when the bass is singing its own thing....and the guitars join forces....and they slowly convince the bass to sing the same song they are singing....it's like the stars in the belt of orion are aligning....
One has to wonder what it's like to be Rob out there performing Cliff's Magnum Opus with the rest of his band. Absolutely unbelievable performance! GREAT job out there Rob! RIP Cliff!
@@jackrush645 I love both Jason and Rob, yes I miss those fucking backing vocals, but I know Newsted had his reasons to leave as well as Rob gives everything he has to the band and fans, Hardwired has a lot from jams James and him did and special thanks to "Your man overthrown, Kirk lost his phone" (that joke is hilarious).
he used to be greater. he played way better in suicidal tendencies and infectious grooves. either he got lazy or metallica don't want him to use all his skills.

@Living In an Inverse Reality Aka Clown World its hard to say really. If we talk about Cliff, its about his style of playing, such as for whom the bell tolls live in green day '85 and anesthesia-(pulling teeth),he inspired so much bassist.that bass isnt just a rhythmic instrument but it can be a lead instrument as well such as in the call of ktulu and bass can also fill music such as in master of puppets and leper messiah, you get that fullness from the bass but now speaking about randy rhoads man its just how he helped to established another genre of metal and that is neoclassical and the way that he introduced a fast, technical yet melodic playing style just changed almost everything about metal,so speaking about music im gonna say its a tie because they've changed their respective instrument playing style
When Rob joined the Band in 2003 I couldn't imagine that he could be the Person who could fill Jason's or Cliff's footsteps.I thought he's somekind of Clown 😂but now I believe he's sort of an enormous Rock in the Surf that gives this Band the stability it needs...thx Rob you're impressing!!!
Richard Petit...because you don't (or didn't) know about his previous bands (music he was playing)...Rob is an amazing bassist, he is a blessing for Metallica.
Cliff Burton: Was way ahead of his time. Was the, by far, the most talented musician/song writer in Metallica history. Was THE EPITOME of a Metal head! Was the greatest head banger of all time. Was, arguably, the greatest Bassist in Heavy Metal history. Was why Metallica became so successful. Is loved and missed by millions of people.
The day following the night Cliff Burton died - I was born. Sunday, September 28th. in 1986...that meant something special to me right from the moment I knew about it when I was 16 years old...I guess if it wasn´t for Metallica I probably would have never started playing guitar...I am 32 now,- still rocking my axe everyday and looking forward to see them in Cologne this summer...its gonna be the night of my life guys🤘
I was in 7th grade in my art class when I found out. There was a sense of loss even then among us, profound and unforgiving. People said he must have OD'd, but were immediately corrected with vague details of some kind of bus accident. Cliff never had the chance to see what his legacy would be from the stage, but I imagine he's singing with ancient musical legends on scales we have yet to hear...
6:23 tears-drop moment, when I'm always realizing how Cliff was talented and monumental. Music lost so goddam much in that night... Rest in power, our friend. 🤘🏻🤘🏻

Who really knows what they would've done. Cliff had a much more broader taste than the other 3 boys. He was probably the least metal head but had the most punk spirit. I'm my opinion he would've have brought them down much different avenues. Black album and Load would have still happened but they'd be quite different.

I use it all the time, for example I'm at worj and cant watch this so I save it for later so I dont forget
I put this video on Watch Later , coz I know I'm gonna watch it again.
They need to rename it to ReWatch Later, cause it's more usfeful when you find a good video and want to save it to rewatch someday
So you could watch all the other videos later.

Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you here.
@@larsulrich6288 LARS WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE
cant imagine how much pressure rob is under when he plays orion.
edit: RIP Ray Burton
he nails it
he's like fish in the water...sorry, goldfish..and honestly, i think he likes to play this kind of songs
Rapportus5 it’s still playing cliffs bass primary song that changed the meaning of a bass guitar in a band. rob has to live up to cliff so to say it would be a lot of pressure to get it right lol
i could listen to this all day in quarantine
I agree
Best Tallica song imo

When Metallica plays Orion live, the gods in heaven all fall silent to let Cliff hear his masterpiece being carried on by these wonderful musicians. Rest in peace Cliff Burton, you will be missed forever.

Rob Trujillo, the "new" member of Metallica, has been the bassist longer than Jason and Cliff combined.
Cliff 1981-1986=5 Nad Jason 1987-2001=14 14plus5=19 Robert has been 17since 2003
Poseidon Cliff didn’t join until 1983
@@jiveassturkey8849 He joined Metallica 1982 so it is 4 plus 14 =18. JASON JOINED Metallica same year. 1986 -2001 15 years plus 4 =19. \same thing
Hell yeah. I just posted how I'm glad Rob at least TRIED to play it like Cliff. Impossible to nail since he's...not.

Honestly think this is one of the best Metallica songs, it really doesn't need vocals as the melodies are so strong by themselves
I think maybe that's why there aren't any vocals in it?

Glad that they got Rob ..none of those other dudes would have made it...
Ezequiel Ezze Chéntola and the lyrics are phenomenal
Playedplains 61 yes the lyrics is phenomenal, the song itself is singing
Do kirk writes all lead part in metallica ? I have heard that so many lead parts were taught by cliff to kirk....
Good songs die in weeks, legendary songs last forever. This song being a great example
Metallica Head Then, all Metallica songs are legendary!

Your comment is beautiful, sounds like some Beethoven would say.

What a masterful performance, we can see how James feels this one, the Way he plays is awesome, rob is a God On bass, very good tribute to cliff, the band was On point. Long life Metallica!
Metallica is without a shadow of doubt the best rock band ever. Period!
And Orion the best instrumental ever.
While Cliff Burton will always be the greatest bassist Metallica has ever seen, you cannot deny the fact that Rob is the absolute perfect replacement.
WJ 2000 i fully agree w you. Jason and rob are great. I don’t know why people hate.
Charles Hall cause jason used a pick mostly and rob is just the new guy to some people although he has been there the longest

Newsted- best bassist for Metallica
Trujillo- a hired hand
if only he had the rage voice that jason had... and of course jasons hair in pre buzz cut.

he used to be greater. he played way better in suicidal tendencies and infectious grooves. either he got lazy or metallica don't want him to use all his skills.

Cliff lives for ever in this song, una delle linee di basso più belle di SEMPRE 💗💗💗💗🎶🎶🎼
Stairway tp heaven
Cliff is jamming his bass guitar in heaven, with a big smile on his face.
I miss him something awful.
Richard Petit the dude literally played with Ozzy and Suicidal he’s great
he played with Ozzy, Suicidal, Infectious Grooves, Black Label Society and Glen Tipton, he 's a monster
Technically, Rob is amazing.
Richard Petit...because you don't (or didn't) know about his previous bands (music he was playing)...Rob is an amazing bassist, he is a blessing for Metallica.
Technically, he's one of the best bass players around, superior to Jason.
Cliff Burton:
Was way ahead of his time.
Cliff's life was too short, like a unfinished song in my opinion i wish he would of survived. Cliff was and still is my inspiration for bass
I think geezer was better imo
Idk James and Lars had A LOT to do with that too.
imo the best metallica "era". he didn't deserve such an early death
Agree with the rest except geezer and Steve Harris is better
You are honored to watch such a badass masterpeice of MetallicA which they dont play too often. Rob you made Cliff proud brother.
Cliff never had the chance to see what his legacy would be from the stage, but I imagine he's singing with ancient musical legends on scales we have yet to hear...
yo también tengo conexión de ese tipo con Metallica
Pat Scha what if you’re reincarnated Cliff lmao just joking
I was born the same day, the same hour that Titanic sink.... that meant something special, now playing the violin

If Cliff Burton survived the crash, Metallica would have had made a lot of progressive metal.
But it was Kirk's bunk that Cliff was on so it may be a tradeoff of Cliff's life for Kirk's.

Who really knows what they would've done. Cliff had a much more broader taste than the other 3 boys. He was probably the least metal head but had the most punk spirit.
I'm my opinion he would've have brought them down much different avenues.
Black album and Load would have still happened but they'd be quite different.
