Just throwing it out there, have you called the number on the letter, you might be surprised- it's automated and allows you to declare you don't need a licence and hey presto the letters stop.

My next letter, requesting that I contact them again to confirm that I didn't need a licence, came just 12 months later, and of course had my name on it, not 'Legal Occupier'. Best advice is to have nothing to do with them, when their letters arrive, bin them, use them as firelighters, whatever, but do not respond to them.

It's amazing how a single notification (SORN) is enough for the DVLA, but TV Licensing feel the need to be constantly told that you don't need a TV licence.
I've had reminder emails about SORN? So it's pretty similar. SORN should follow the TV licence if you ask me. The assumption should be if you don't have it you don't need or want it. Prove it if you think otherwise.

Had my usual monthly threatogram last Monday. Ripped it up unopened and binned as usual. I've had these investigations letters many times so I guess they're repeating the series. Just junk mail.
I was unemployed several years ago due to illness and on benefits. I was unable to pay my licence fee just before Christmas. . I was fined £475, which I had to pay by instalments out of my JSA. I was threatened with six months in prison if I did not pay the court. I was forced to live on £35 a week. I have hated the BBC and their licence fee every since. They claimed that as I had a working tv set in the house the licence was mandatory.
I think I would have done the six months in prison than pay any money to the BBC. At least I would have got three good meals and a comfy bed! Plus know doubt a tv which I would have watched all day .. my penance for not abiding the rules!
10 years ago I was living in Dubai but every time I came home there was a pile of these letters waiting for me in the hallway! my GF at the time was a long established lawyer who read these and was convinced this was demanding money with menace’s! she did how ever rebuke me for not buying a TV licence as most reasonable people did, you can afford it etc etc. to which my reply was why the hell should I I live in the UAE for most of the year! She is no longer my GF!
I keep this same letter near my door, & when goons visit I show the letter & say 'I couldn't possibly comment on a live investigation!'. It's what police & politicians say when they don't want to answer questions.

Someone called the police at a loud party I was at years ago, complaining that no one had called the police to report the out of control party. A couple of hours later they called back to complain that the police hadn’t attended. They said that they had gone round, but upon ringing the doorbell, someone answered and told them to ‘f off’ and closed the door! 😂
I have not paid the licence fee for a few years... got the letters and went online to tell the BBC I don't need their services. About 3 months ago they write again, just checking I haven't changed my mind, so I ignored it. Yesterday a new letter, no phone number or any way of contacting them.... So I, reluctantly, completed the online disclosure and told them I am certain I don't need a licence... I am still under investigation so telling then is not enough... It was in the seventies, they use to push their way into your home. Very roughly I might add. You can understand why pensioners are terrified by these scum who call to harass them with terror tactics!!!!

Spot on as usual, only in UK could such outfits be tolerated, where a tax is paid not to the government but to fund an outdated anti British establishment. I decided years back to stop watching and listening BBC TV and radio. I dutifully applied for and received a two year exemption’ licence but guess what after six months these threatening letters began arriving. I have occasionally written ‘not at this address’ on the front of the unopened letter with an arrow saying see over and underlining the address on the back and popped it in the nearest post box. I understand the Post Office charge the recipient of such returns.

Same here, replied with a “not needed” in 2016. We don’t get harassed with letters or visits, just resend the same every two years and if they do turn up at our door they’ll get the recommended “no thanks” response! I really don’t see the problem with the “not needed” replies, apart from their presumptive attitude?

Save your tv licence letters, they make excellent fire lighters for the bbq in the summer. The envelopes are handy to use for shopping lists, to purchase things you actually want to buy... 😆

I got one of them two days ago. Paper shredder goes brrrr 😊 Have you noticed how they go in cycles? First they start nice, then the 'reminders' turn into warnings which turn into threats. When you continue to ignore them they start all over again.
Nearly 20 years ago, after numerous letters and a very heated visit from an enforcement officer, which I let in after being threatened with being reported for an offence just because I wouldn't allow their "inspection"(I know, I wasn't as well informed back then) I wrote and told TV Licencing that I did not need a licence. I also told them that I had removed the implied right of access to my property and any further contact would be regarded as harassment. I have never heard from them again. None of this should be required. If I need a licence, I will get one, simple. Now I know my rights, I'm almost disappointed they don't start trying it on again!
The. "What to expect in court" letter always used to annoy me the most, especially and it was always addressed to the legal occupier for stop. How on earth can it take someone to court when they don't even know their name? Still, that investigation had been proceeding for at least a dozen years by this point, so give them a chance. Eventually, they might have worked my name out, but I wasn't tolding my breath.
My girlfriend was fined £1,000 years ago when she was a single mother and she had no money, they are a disgusting organization!🤬 she had to pay weekly out of her family allowance putting her in more debt🤬 so they can pay gary linekar obscene amounts of money🤬
I'm actually amazed they haven't just blacklisted the letters to you. It wouldn't be hard for the BBC to find out your name and address from your YT channel and just stop. Could you not send them a letter from a solicitor telling them to stop sending you threatening letters and if they don't then you can take them to court for threatening Beauvoir and harassment? That would turn the table on them. but I think there way out of it is that the letters do not have your name on them.

Been getting these letters every month without fail since August 2020. I cancelled my licence in July that year having notified TV licensing through their on line portal and getting a response. The ongoing monthly reminder/threat/hassle is a load of nonsense and I look forward to seeing one of the goons turn up on my doorstep😂
Many people still think they need a tv licence to watch most of UA-cam. Some of the comments on articles all over FB, the amount of people that haven't got a clue are buying a licence unnecessarily.

30 years ago I had a knock on the door, and I invited the goon in as I didn’t have a telly and I had nothing to hide. They searched every room in the house even the bathroom and asked me to sign a form declaring I didn’t have a telly and I thought that would be the end of it. After that I had two visits a week waving my signature in my face for the next two years until I moved house. I was only 21 at the time and I found it very scary and I felt like I had done something wrong. I continue to receive these letters to this day but now I just tell them to go forth, I’ve not had a visit for ten years now. Jon’s right if you don’t engage with them they give up and leave you alone.

I haven't had a license for 9 years. I just throw their letters in the bin. Haven't seen an inspector once in that time. A friend of mine once engaged with them by mail. The last letter from them demanded that he prove he didn't have TV. His response to that was. "How do I do that, take photographs of the corners of my lounge showing no TV?"
Been without a licence for about 4 years. I've previously declared every two years but refuse to do it anymore. I'm fully aware of the rules and don't watch any live tv and never watch BBC iplayer. There is only one programme on the BBC i would watch if i could, their output is that bad. If I'm staying in hotel I might watch something live but more than willing to forego that at home to withhold income to this disgusting broadcaster.

I have been legitimately TV licence free for over 2years and do not make their "no licence needed" declaration as i dont take kindly to thier bully boy tactics. What i actually find amusing is that for over 2 years they are still "starting an investigation" into my address.! This company is an absolute joke..! I saw a tv license guy coming up the drive on the doorbell cam, I opened the door and shouted 'CHILLI JON CARNE!!!!!' and slammed the door on him. He turned around and left 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Then I noticed that he went next door, turns out he was collecting for 'make a wish' 🤯..I sent my license fee to them 😇

I have not paid the licence fee for a few years... got the letters and went online to tell the BBC I don't need their services.
About 3 months ago they write again, just checking I haven't changed my mind, so I ignored it.
Yesterday a new letter, no phone number or any way of contacting them....
So I, reluctantly, completed the online disclosure and told them I am certain I don't need a licence...
I am still under investigation so telling then is not enough...
Also look at the wording on the declaration form, it's atrocious
So if I've been waiting in now for three years, for the goon to turn up and they havn't... Can I take them to court for loss of earnings and some form of imprisonment???.. What a waste of oxygen these people are.. Then again if they turn up I think I'll show 'em my ring peice as the NHS hasn't investigated that.............
It was in the seventies, they use to push their way into your home. Very roughly I might add. You can understand why pensioners are terrified by these scum who call to harass them with terror tactics!!!!

You can see them coming a mile out with clipboards, hand held device etc. Why even answer the door to them?!? Let them stand in the pissin rain knocking as long as they want!! Even better, get a video door bell and keep saying you'll be there in a second, waste their time as much as possible.

Spot on as usual, only in UK could such outfits be tolerated, where a tax is paid not to the government but to fund an outdated anti British establishment. I decided years back to stop watching and listening BBC TV and radio. I dutifully applied for and received a two year exemption’ licence but guess what after six months these threatening letters began arriving. I have occasionally written ‘not at this address’ on the front of the unopened letter with an arrow saying see over and underlining the address on the back and popped it in the nearest post box. I understand the Post Office charge the recipient of such returns.
My licence expired last month. I've already had a letter saying my details have been passed to an enforcement officer and my address is under investigation. Apparently I may get a visit. I'm really scared.....not. Thanks to you Jon. You gave me the courage to finally stop paying.

No letters for me so that is right but if you are coming up to your 2 years up they will send you a letter like they have to me mine went in the cat litter tray the day I got it

Same here, replied with a “not needed” in 2016. We don’t get harassed with letters or visits, just resend the same every two years and if they do turn up at our door they’ll get the recommended “no thanks” response! I really don’t see the problem with the “not needed” replies, apart from their presumptive attitude?

Save your tv licence letters, they make excellent fire lighters for the bbq in the summer. The envelopes are handy to use for shopping lists, to purchase things you actually want to buy... 😆

They cannot compute that there are actually folk, living in this country, who just do not watch tv programmes....live or otherwise...... I am NOT a customer.....they will not leave me the eff alone re these acidly worded letters.

'Declaring' you don't need a license, online, is by carefully selected multiple choice trickery..... there's no option for 'I'm just not interested in/do not watch tv programmes, on any device, live or otherwise'....

Have you noticed how they go in cycles? First they start nice, then the 'reminders' turn into warnings which turn into threats.
When you continue to ignore them they start all over again.
Nearly 20 years ago, after numerous letters and a very heated visit from an enforcement officer, which I let in after being threatened with being reported for an offence just because I wouldn't allow their "inspection"(I know, I wasn't as well informed back then) I wrote and told TV Licencing that I did not need a licence. I also told them that I had removed the implied right of access to my property and any further contact would be regarded as harassment. I have never heard from them again. None of this should be required. If I need a licence, I will get one, simple.
Now I know my rights, I'm almost disappointed they don't start trying it on again!
The. "What to expect in court" letter always used to annoy me the most, especially and it was always addressed to the legal occupier for stop. How on earth can it take someone to court when they don't even know their name? Still, that investigation had been proceeding for at least a dozen years by this point, so give them a chance. Eventually, they might have worked my name out, but I wasn't tolding my breath.
My girlfriend was fined £1,000 years ago when she was a single mother and she had no money, they are a disgusting organization!🤬 she had to pay weekly out of her family allowance putting her in more debt🤬 so they can pay gary linekar obscene amounts of money🤬
I'm actually amazed they haven't just blacklisted the letters to you. It wouldn't be hard for the BBC to find out your name and address from your YT channel and just stop. They're the gift that keeps on giving, if this isn't an illustration that they send the letters out willy nilly hoping to score a random catch then I don't know what is.

A question. Could you not send them a letter from a solicitor telling them to stop sending you threatening letters and if they don't then you can take them to court for threatening Beauvoir and harassment? That would turn the table on them. but I think there way out of it is that the letters do not have your name on them.
No solicitor would touch it as the bbc are granted an exception by government.

The BBC perpetual Merry-Go-Round never ceases to amuse me as a never in the history of time paid for a license as I've never owned a tv wherever I've been and gone from.......the parents used to pay it when I still lived there....but...
I left home in 1987....I took my separates music stack with me and that's all I needed...

Been getting these letters every month without fail since August 2020. I cancelled my licence in July that year having notified TV licensing through their on line portal and getting a response. The ongoing monthly reminder/threat/hassle is a load of nonsense and I look forward to seeing one of the goons turn up on my doorstep😂
We have two homes (my daughter lives in one of them), so I get 52 letters per year from them, so a total of around 200 thus far.
Many people still think they need a tv licence to watch most of UA-cam. Some of the comments on articles all over FB, the amount of people that haven't got a clue are buying a licence unnecessarily.
I've got a fishing rod in my loft somewhere. I've not used it for years. Presumably, I need to get myself a fishing licence again.

Now that I know about these letters it’s amusing to see them go round in cycles. Starts with making enquiries into a full on ‘investigation’, and then back to enquiries a few months later.

Have been ignoring these people for decades.
30 years ago I had a knock on the door, and I invited the goon in as I didn’t have a telly and I had nothing to hide. They searched every room in the house even the bathroom and asked me to sign a form declaring I didn’t have a telly and I thought that would be the end of it. After that I had two visits a week waving my signature in my face for the next two years until I moved house. I was only 21 at the time and I found it very scary and I felt like I had done something wrong. I continue to receive these letters to this day but now I just tell them to go forth, I’ve not had a visit for ten years now. Jon’s right if you don’t engage with them they give up and leave you alone.
They don't scare me anymore ... thanks, mainly, to you but also others on YT. It goes straight in the recycling box, without even being opened. I'm just a little annoyed that they still have my personal details, despite my requesting they remove them - in writing! Hmm, maybe I should look into legal representation under GDPR?

I took this up with them. The ico told me tvl are permitted by the government to keep your details even if you are not a customer....
I haven't had a license for 9 years. I just throw their letters in the bin. Haven't seen an inspector once in that time. A friend of mine once engaged with them by mail. The last letter from them demanded that he prove he didn't have TV. His response to that was. "How do I do that, take photographs of the corners of my lounge showing no TV?"
Been without a licence for about 4 years. I've previously declared every two years but refuse to do it anymore.
I'm fully aware of the rules and don't watch any live tv and never watch BBC iplayer. There is only one programme on the BBC i would watch if i could, their output is that bad. If I'm staying in hotel I might watch something live but more than willing to forego that at home to withhold income to this disgusting broadcaster.
I had a Goon come round about 6 months back .....as soon as he told me he was tv licencing I said no thank you and closed the door . This last month I have seen the same guy walking about the estate where I live knocking doors but he's not knocked on my door since he's walk past my house but doesn't knock at my house .........do you think he's got the message ?
Bastards did me many years ago because i let them In, I didn’t even have a TV but had a old vhs video player they told me lies, that was their evidence and I got a fine, I had just moved in too, but i didn’t know any better. I want to take this further.
I got one the other day and I am dying for them to turn up at the door so I can just stand there and look at them without saying a word and see just how desperate they are to sell their products by timing how long they are willing to stand there with me.

I cancelled my TV licence nearly 6 months ago and I haven't had 1 letter from them since cancelling.
I have been legitimately TV licence free for over 2years and do not make their "no licence needed" declaration as i dont take kindly to thier bully boy tactics.
What i actually find amusing is that for over 2 years they are still "starting an investigation" into my address.! This company is an absolute joke..!

I saw a tv license guy coming up the drive on the doorbell cam, I opened the door and shouted 'CHILLI JON CARNE!!!!!' and slammed the door on him. He turned around and left 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Then I noticed that he went next door, turns out he was collecting for 'make a wish' 🤯..I sent my license fee to them 😇
