I’m pretty sure you can ring them and tell them you don’t need a licence. No need to give them anything other than your reference, address and maybe name. (I’m not 100% sure on the name as it’s been quite a while since I did it) just keep telling them you have no need for a TV licence and don’t watch anything their service covers. They’ll keep trying to mess you about but keep telling them you don’t need a licence over n over till they give up and have to put the exemption on

I said if you don’t come round on that date and I have taken a day off I will be putting in a claim for lost wages. This put them into panic!!! I also said I will be reporting to the ICO for misleading letters. Bunch of scammers!!
Most of the licensing fee is theft by the board of directors. they own private production companies that get 10s of millions a year EACH to produce the crap that the BBC produces. So they make some cheap-ass reality tv or shitty gameshow dross, and pay themselves say £15million as the owner of the company that made it. This is ON TOP of their 100s of thousands BBC salary for doing fak all. Its absolutely disgraceful

I have always done the "No License Needed" declaration and never had a visit because of it and it stops the letters until the declaration "expires" after 2 years. Although I could be one of the lucky ones. As you said imagine having to tell every company that you don't need their services like the BBC want you to do with their TV license. What a farce.

Last tv licence inspector that knocked on my door put his foot in doorway so I couldn’t close it , I pushed him out so hard he fell flat on his back , that was 20 years ago and I’ve never had another visit from them since but I still keep getting loads of letters from them
I had a visit about 3 weeks ago, that was after a year's worth of letters "I normally go onto their no licence required site, but that no longer works correctly" I answered the door to them informing them I had never owned a TV let along viewed any live programmes ever at this address, they jotted something down and stated that they will update the system accordingly and I then received a letter last week informing me that a visit has been scheduled for my address? I always find it funny that letters are addressed to the occupier and not the addressee "Could using a name on the letters be classed as harassment after receiving a certain number"

In the 16 years or so I've lived here the Jehovah's have only managed to knock on the door about 3 times. The local Tory candidate knocked once too. Never TV licensing. It's a shame as I've perfected the "no thank you" on those previous visitors mentioned.

BBB has shown how these false threats of enforcement could be harassment in law. A housing association used similar void threats and were found to have acted illegally.
I've taken to turning their unopened post, marked "return to sender". It's funny, the first few times as soon as they received it they'd send another, but after a few times of this happening I've not had another (yet).
Try living in NE uk Enforcement officers at the door every other week, the same bloke turned up twice. Letters coming every week...........I had to ring them up in the end. Up to now no more visits but I have had another letter grrrrr these people are a shocking.

I haven't had a visit or a letter since I did "the I don't need a Television License" declaration. I've probably just been lucky so far. I had the same email. Sadly, I do listen to BBC sounds, which requires a login, but no licence. As a result, I had to keep it active😢 bit of a shame, as I'd love to cut all ties with the BBC but I love the Goons from 1958!!

17 years with no TV licence now. Today, it's less of a stigma to say I dont have a TV licence. When I first went licenceless, there was no alternative to the big 5 unless you were loaded with cash. I just had terrestrial tv as it was then known, so perhaps it was illegal to watch ANY tv, I dont recall clearly. But regardless, I watched DVDs anyhow as I worked a night shift 6 to 6, so there was no good tv to watch at 7am or 4pm outside work hours, so I watched boxsets and movies alot. Today its less stigmatised and even regarded as a badge of honour or right of passage to shut the door with pride on a capita "tv man", (as they were known in my childhood). Dont buy a TV licence, it is wasted money, the BBC are not offering a public service they've abolished FREE licences for over 75s FFS, the BBC deserve nothing except contempt from a public they despise. Open the door confidently listen for "TV Licencing" and calmly clise the front door in total silence with your phone video recording the entire incident. As evidence in court to prove perjury by capita. An imprisonable offence of upto 7 years. My mate was taken to court on false claims hed admitted he watched BBC Live to air without a licence and aledgedly said "what ya gonna do about it?". This was false, a lie by capita, but my nate did not viseo and could not prove that he had not said it. Proving a negative is damn near impossible without video/audio proof. So here what to do: 1, start recording before opening the door. 2, Dont speak to them, just listen. 3, soon as you hear TV Licence, calmly and normally close the door withoyt saying a sound or word. Nothing, nada, ziltch. If you do not speak a word, not one, its very hard for TV licencing capita to prove you said XYZ if your lips never moved. Its clear as air there is no doubt in a magistrates mind that capitas evidence is false and that is purjury under the perjury act 1911. Making a false statement of fact to a court or other judicial body in writing or person is perjury the more of these twats we put in prison the better.
I got one today chilli but mine says will I be in 22nd March, I've had about 4 of these ones in the last 2or3 yrs but never once did they turn up, shame as I'm looking forward to a visit.
Have you ever considered contacting ITV, channel 4 ect: regarding their loss of viewers, just by them being included in TV licensing exclusion? They must be aware the BBC are affecting the viewing figures they get, WHY do they allow this to go on, are they happy to support this bullying, I guess they are happy to lose viewers otherwise!
What you should do is take the day off work and if they dont turn up then send an invoice to the BBC to recover your losses. £6 a week? OK lets work that out, £6 x 52 weeks = £312, how many people have they scammed by charging double the license fee?

Would be nice if the bbc had something interesting to watch that's worth their protection racket price. I don't watch bbc, but when I did watch anything I always got a ghost shadowing on every character on screen as they moved around. My daughter pays a licence and she has the same issue, doesn't happen on any other channel, just the bbc. So not only is their listings sHITe so is their didgital output, or whatever you call it. I'm not paying for a substandard output. We both have two different makes of tv.

Really? I cancelled the "proper" way and got a cash refund. Letters started within weeks followed by two goon visits.

I got the same letter yesterday, i binned it straight away. I haven't watched the BBC for a few years now. The last time someone called to my door about the licence, i was caught unaware, as soon as i clocked who it was i slammed the door in his face.
I'm coming up to a year since I let my licence expire as I didn't need one anymore. I've got a nice collection of letters, but they never follow up on their threats. I'm quite disappointed as I was hoping to see how they would cope with the electric gates and intercom! 😅
My letters have stopped. They did turn up but did not ring the doorbell. Just got that they will return in 7 days. I wonder if they vet people before they turn up. Big up Chilli!!

Last tv licence inspector that knocked on my door put his foot in doorway so I couldn’t close it , I pushed him out so hard he fell flat on his back , that was 20 years ago and I’ve never had another visit from them since but I still keep getting loads of letters from them

I had a visit about 3 weeks ago, that was after a year's worth of letters "I normally go onto their no licence required site, but that no longer works correctly" I answered the door to them informing them I had never owned a TV let along viewed any live programmes ever at this address, they jotted something down and stated that they will update the system accordingly and I then received a letter last week informing me that a visit has been scheduled for my address? I always find it funny that letters are addressed to the occupier and not the addressee "Could using a name on the letters be classed as harassment after receiving a certain number"
Yes, that's why they change it to 'legal occupier' as if it named a particular person then it could be declared as harassment or stalking.
They are quite specific on the date. Ive been stood up everytime.

Hi mate. I've been licence free for 12 years now. I do let them know every couple of years that I don't need a licence and never had a visit.

In the 16 years or so I've lived here the Jehovah's have only managed to knock on the door about 3 times. The local Tory candidate knocked once too. Never TV licensing. It's a shame as I've perfected the "no thank you" on those previous visitors mentioned.

BBB has shown how these false threats of enforcement could be harassment in law. A housing association used similar void threats and were found to have acted illegally.
the government are the REAL power behind the BBC and its used as a brain-washing operation to destroy this country.
I've taken to turning their unopened post, marked "return to sender".
It's funny, the first few times as soon as they received it they'd send another, but after a few times of this happening I've not had another (yet).
I send them back, but still get a monthly letter - That also gets sent back ...!!
Try living in NE uk Enforcement officers at the door every other week, the same bloke turned up twice. Letters coming every week...........I had to ring them up in the end. Up to now no more visits but I have had another letter grrrrr these people are a shocking.

This is tantamount to stalking by correspondence, ans also intimidation, Threatening letters are against the law. It is also harassment. so why are'nt the law chasing these comanies like Capita down.

I filled in the online declaration so I could cancel my License over a year ago, so they have my name and address.
I haven't had a visit or a letter since I did "the I don't need a Television License" declaration. I've probably just been lucky so far.
It's just unreal the intimidation and aggressive letters that I see on your UA-cam channel. It's actually your channel, that gave me the confidence to finally cancel and thank you for it.

Sadly, I do listen to BBC sounds, which requires a login, but no licence. As a result, I had to keep it active😢 bit of a shame, as I'd love to cut all ties with the BBC but I love the Goons from 1958!!

It's time people took out a mass lawsuit for harassment and distress. If any other entertainment provider tried this to get subscriptions they would be prosecuted. And yes, the licence fee is simply a subscription. As such it should be a civil debt like not paying your Sky bill...
I've replied to someone else here on that. At risk of duplication: I've researched this. Take first the case of Cliff Richard, he was awarded £210,000 but it cost him £3.1m to sue them.
In short, the BBC has huge funds to access the best defence. Strategically, to win against the BBC, one has to systematically erode their wealth and they know this - the balance of harassment and misinformation from the BBC causes people who don't need a TV license to buy just out of fear - this is how the BBC survives. The way to win against the BBC is through education and everything @chillijoncarnie is correct.

17 years with no TV licence now. Today, it's less of a stigma to say I dont have a TV licence. When I first went licenceless, there was no alternative to the big 5 unless you were loaded with cash. I just had terrestrial tv as it was then known, so perhaps it was illegal to watch ANY tv, I dont recall clearly. But regardless, I watched DVDs anyhow as I worked a night shift 6 to 6, so there was no good tv to watch at 7am or 4pm outside work hours, so I watched boxsets and movies alot.
Today its less stigmatised and even regarded as a badge of honour or right of passage to shut the door with pride on a capita "tv man", (as they were known in my childhood).
Dont buy a TV licence, it is wasted money, the BBC are not offering a public service they've abolished FREE licences for over 75s FFS, the BBC deserve nothing except contempt from a public they despise.
Open the door confidently listen for "TV Licencing" and calmly clise the front door in total silence with your phone video recording the entire incident. As evidence in court to prove perjury by capita. An imprisonable offence of upto 7 years.
My mate was taken to court on false claims hed admitted he watched BBC Live to air without a licence and aledgedly said "what ya gonna do about it?".
This was false, a lie by capita, but my nate did not viseo and could not prove that he had not said it. Proving a negative is damn near impossible without video/audio proof.
So here what to do:
1, start recording before opening the door.
2, Dont speak to them, just listen.
3, soon as you hear TV Licence, calmly and normally close the door withoyt saying a sound or word. Nothing, nada, ziltch.
If you do not speak a word, not one, its very hard for TV licencing capita to prove you said XYZ if your lips never moved. Its clear as air there is no doubt in a magistrates mind that capitas evidence is false and that is purjury under the perjury act 1911.
Making a false statement of fact to a court or other judicial body in writing or person is perjury the more of these twats we put in prison the better.
I got one today chilli but mine says will I be in 22nd March, I've had about 4 of these ones in the last 2or3 yrs but never once did they turn up, shame as I'm looking forward to a visit.
Have you ever considered contacting ITV, channel 4 ect: regarding their loss of viewers, just by them being included in TV licensing exclusion?
They must be aware the BBC are affecting the viewing figures they get, WHY do they allow this to go on, are they happy to support this bullying, I guess they are happy to lose viewers otherwise!
What you should do is take the day off work and if they dont turn up then send an invoice to the BBC to recover your losses.
£6 a week? OK lets work that out, £6 x 52 weeks = £312, how many people have they scammed by charging double the license fee?

I don't watch bbc, but when I did watch anything I always got a ghost shadowing on every character on screen as they moved around. My daughter pays a licence and she has the same issue, doesn't happen on any other channel, just the bbc. So not only is their listings sHITe so is their didgital output, or whatever you call it. I'm not paying for a substandard output.
We both have two different makes of tv.
