- This video is about the Luterma chair and how to do the best plywood bottom for it. Some time ago I did a video ( • How to restore an old ... ) about copy of Luterma chair. Now, this is the original one. This chair was mass produced somewhere between 1900-1940 but they are still valued here, in Estonia.

A beautiful chair from something most people would just throw away.
Watching you with such lethal tools and no safety glove terrifies me. I know you are a professional and know exactly what you are doing though. Unfortunately, I have limited feeling in my hands and have been known to forget that. Taking a casserole out of an oven minus oven glove had the expected result when my husband shouted at me😥.
Can I ask what shellac actually is, please?

These chairs were mass produced in Estonia, by one of the largest users of plywood, they sell for as little as $10, Great job tho well done

Your secret weapon is a book press? What a good idea. You are a master when it comes to restoring chairs. I’d like to see you do more tables and maybe a chest of drawers or a desk or maybe a woman’s vanity table. Those would be fascinating to watch and I know you would do a masterful job on them.

Всё таки реанимация умершего стула в десять раз интереснее, чем если бы это было изготовление нового. Прям переживал за него.

@@andreykuchukov3587 Смысл в демонстрации технологий, умений и навыков. И конечным продуктом является данное видео.
А что касается конкретного стула, то конечно это имеет смысл только в том случае если это был любимый стул вашего любимого дедушки. Или вам важна пыль веков на нём и его история.
Если вам на это дело плевать, разумеется гораздо рациональнее и гораздо дешевле заказать новые стулья. А если вы купите готовые в ИКЕЕ, со соотношение цена\качество будет ещё лучше.
@@user-sl3il5sz2s Вы напрасно объясняете мне очевидные вещи… вы, видимо, думаете, что я тупее этого стула? Это не так… Я, вообще-то, физик - кандидат наук, а реставрация мебели - моё хобби. Насколько я помню этот ролик (а запоминать его НЕ хочется ввиду его БЕССМЫСЛЕННОСТИ…), у мастера очень неплохая мастерская и профессиональный инструмент (у меня такого нет и в мастерскую я превратил одну из комнат моей квартиры) - то есть он Профессионал. Значит зарабатывает на жизнь ремонтом мебели…? Очень забавно, что Профессионал не может сделать ролик со своей реальной работой… продемонстрировать свои навыки на реально нужной вещи, как это делают десятки других Профессионалов (у которых Приятно поучиться…) Например, у меня регулярно попадаются кресла, для реставрации которых необходимо проявить определённые весьма нетривиальные навыки… Неужели у него таких кресел\стульев никогда не бывает? А когда профессионал применяет свои навыки для бессмысленной работы, то вспоминается песня Наутилус Помпилиуса - «здесь Мерилом Работы считают Усталость…». Неприятно смотреть то, что, очевидно, сделано бессмысленно… Бесполезно потраченное время… бесполезно потраченная энергия… Кому нафиг нужен этот Одинокий стул…
@@andreykuchukov3587 Ну на лбу у вас не написано, что вы физик и кандидат и увлекаетесь реставрацией мебели. А вот ...скажем так эмоциональная реакция бросается в глаза.
Вам интересно смотреть про банальное производство банальной мебели? Ну один раз и в общем всё ясно, и больше не надо.
На примере убитого в хлам старого стула гораздо интереснее.
И что вы так акцентируете что стул один? Вам обязательно гарнитур Генриха Гамбса? Ну гарнитур можно конечно интереснее продать, или реальный антиквариат. Так сказать не бесполезно трудился.
Но видео не про бизнес, оно про технику работы. Это конечно мог быть какой угодно стул, стол, не принципиально. Но стул с некоторой историей как-то интереснее.
@@user-sl3il5sz2s Да нет, мне интересно повышать свою квалификацию... А для этого интересно смотреть ролики, где показывают Реально Полезные приёмы при работе с реально нужными изделиями... И таких роликов много. Поэтому я ставлю Плюсы реально интересным роликам и минусы таким искусственным и надуманным как Этот. Как-то ведь надо Учить авторов... Например, несколько авторов после наших бесед согласились, что музыка или должна быть Очень Ненавязчивой или её не должно быть вовсе... И я считаю, что это хорошо...

You’ve a good eye for free hand cutting straight lines. I really like the idea of using the news wood on the seat. It blended quite well with the old when stained. Had I not seen you doing that I wouldn’t suspect it at the end. You do good work.

This is a beautiful chair. I think that you have the cleanest, neatest shop in the world. I never see any sawdust or wood shavings on the floor or any scraps of wood scattered about. My shop is not nearly like this.
If I ask millions of people to watch my workshop, I think cleaning it up before filming is elementary thing to do.
You made it look so easy. The chair appears to be brand new.

Nice job on the finish! It's so hard to prevent blotching in birch, poplar, etc., but the shellac wash coat was the key. Thanks!
As a suggestion , there is a furniture restorer in Maine , USA. He is a great craftsman with years of "old school experience". His name is Thomas Johnson, I thing u might enjoy him. Also , I watch a gentleman in the Ukraine his web sight is "Wood DESiGN", he builds modern furniture, I call it "studio furniture" enjoy!

I appreciate furniture restoration isn't as easy as it looks. I'm sure the previous owner had the best of intentions, but got lost along the way, giving up. A piece beautifully turned out, as always. I like the press, BTW.

i wish you lived in my city. i'm sure you've heard this before, but i've got a beautiful table that needs some work on it. my grandfather's brother's father-in-law made it for my mother when she went to college in 1939, so it's a family heirloom.

I'm not sure you know this tip but.. Nails or screws that have been in wood a long time form a BOND and are very difficult to remove. Get an electric soldering iron and hold onto the head of nail/ screw for a couple of minutes this makes it expand and breaks the bond. when it cools its easier to remove . Hope this helps

Some things we work on are "falling apart". We realize soon enough that they will require some assistance in falling apart, sometimes a significant amount more elbow grease to fall apart than to put back together. Well worth the effort!
