Wonderful video Andy, as usual. To be honest, I won't ever achieve your quality , but I simply watch the videos to admire the craftsmanship. And thank you for the bonus link at the end about the canvas! We have been looking for something like this for our home! Nice touch scratching the canvas to show the quality of their work! lol
So great Andy! I never would have thought of raising it with tall legs and adding a shelf for fear of it looking 'top heavy', but it turned out to be a perfect decision. Thanks for sharing your process and of course the humorous edits. Looking forward to your next one.
I inherited an old wash stand that my grandfather repaired years ago, but the original owner never picked it up. It sat in his garage/workroom for decades. My parents inherited his house and mom found that wash stand. As they were moving it into the house, they discovered the granite slab used for the top wasn't actually attached, and took it off to made the stand easier to move. Imagine their surprise to discover the granite slab was actually an old tombstone, lol.
@@carolinejohnson22 lol no. The rest of the story is that grandpa used to pick up odd jobs for extra money when his 3 kids were little. Our city was moving an old cemetery and there were a number of tombstones that were unusable. So he helped remove them. He also used some fragments to floor the enclosed back porch. That's where you find names and dates on some stones, lol.
Oh wow, I have an antique washstand like the one you had; before refurbishing. Mine still has the door on it and it's in such wonderful shape because in the mid 70's my beautiful Mom refinished it. She was a dab hand at bringing back antiques to life. When we moved into our Victorian home in 1972 every single piece of wood in the house, including pocket doors, banisters and stairs were painted over. It took my Mom at least a full year to fully restore the wood back in our house to it's original charm. I bet if she were alive she'd be watching your channel and taking notes!
The montage, the woodworking! Everything is so pleasant to watch! I cant stop myself from thinking about the guy who made this old furniture along time ago! I wish he could see what it have become! Amazing!!!!
I initially thought the new legs would raise the little dress to high and look top heavy but it looks prefect. Adding the wine rack gives a nice balance to the piece.
When I first saw you stain the wine rack black I thought, "Oh, no, not more black furniture!" Then you stained the rest of it walnut and it looks gorgeous. And the black drawer pulls make the whole piece come together. This is really beautiful.
I love what you did with this piece. Wasn't expecting it to turn into something you could use as a bar. Really clever adding the height and shelf at the bottom. Awesome work as always.
I am stunned by your creativity and taste. At first I was not happy that you removed the old legs and curly trim but you made the piece outstandingly beautiful.
That iron ring tells me someone recently hit a milestone!! Congratulations!! Hope you're happy being out of school and have a nice job. Great video as always 👍
The screws made me think about Tom Johnson. He is a YT'er and has an entire lifetime of knowledge and that of his father who did the same job. He saves the old nails and screws and reuses them. He wants to keep all the furnitures parts together. It makes sense if you are restoring instead of reimagining. One of this guys voodoo tricks is his clamping. Great guy, knowledge out the yingyang.
I was marveling at how long your sanding was taking and then, Ooo, look at that curly hair! LOL The finished product is amazing and I had to keep looking back and forth to the before and after photos. This obviously wasn't a restoration but more like a Repurpose Makeover. She went from a tired old washstand to sexy young barmaid!
Andy it's fabulous. I love the new legs and shelf and the stain is beautiful. And I love the dogs on top of it. The really tall one looks like something Salvador Dali would have created in one of his wonderful paintings. Such a great job. A pleasure to watch, as always.
Wow, that was so much work. The scraping took so much elbow grease! It was well worth all the work you put into it because it turned out beautifully. Great job, Andy!
It's amazing what the hardware will do! Before you put the handles on I wasn't so sure I like the look, but then showing it finished with the hardware - it looks amazing!
Andy works his magic again❤. Seriously, love the way your brain works. You always find the best in the worst.💁🏼♀️. And I see you finally got some snow too.
Love how you added the clock in the background to show how much time is spent scraping! As a viewer, it can be hard to tell how long something took to do! Great result!
You did such a great job. I can't believe that the previous owners(s) covered the beautiful elm grain with multiple paints. Thanks for saving this little antique cabinet.
The act of restoration is to repair, renew or reinvigorate the condition of sth. I would therefore agree that it is a restoration... and an excellent one at that.
@@familiecole I don't know about that. Most definitions I could find for the term restoration implies that it is bringing something back to a former condition. So the fact that he visually changed the look of the piece means he's creating something new rather than restoring it to it's original look. I believe this falls more under refurbished
Instead of analyzing if the piece was restored or refurbished or redone, why don't you just look at how well he takes something that looks awful and brings it back to life. @jill552 He did restore it, to something better.
A silk purse from a sows ear! Lovely work. I like the way you obviously have a definite idea of how it should look before you start and it all just comes together.
Stunning, I absolutely love the handles and the black contrast with the brown and that you made that cubbie for wine bottle holders was very clever but you can always remove the piece and use that space for something else. LOVE IT
Another terrific makeover ! I love how it turned out, especially since you reused the top as a shelf. The style of it reminds me of some of the furniture we had when I was growing up in the 50's. Thanks for a great video 🤓
So, it's a sucky Monday morning, gray and overcast, and I'm stuck doing laundry. Then, I watch this vid of yours...and now my day seems better! I love how you "see" things and make them come to life. Good on ya'...and thanks for elevating what started out as just another sucky Monday.
Everything about your work is unexpected, amazing and inspiring. This piece is so Eastlake-like (no keyholes though) and I love the solid wood. ELM!!! It has such fab wood grain - it’s gorgeous❣️ But…the cup pulls…I know you had them and they totally suit your aesthetic - I love the black - but (IMHO only) they’re too ‘common’ for such and old, stunning, piece. That said, I’d have this piece any day, anywhere! Great job as usual; I’m a big fan.
Skills and talent never in doubt but what amazes me is your creativity, your foresight, your ideas. How you can look at something so bashed and just know what to do. Bravo. This one I really liked!!
The space behind the missing door where you put your wine rack was originally the shelf where the chamber pot was kept! haha!!! The top would also have had a large towel bar in the back and the pitcher and bowl displayed on the top. An entire restroom in a small cabinet! But you probably know all this.
Hopefully the last snow storm of the year and I'm sitting down now to enjoy some of this content with a nice cup of tea. Your channel is always a treat Andy! Excellent job as always!

I LOVED that outdoor night time shot. Truly lovely!! Also, the birds singing at the intro was so soothing! Thank you again for another remarkable video my friend. ❤❤❤
I feel like there are so many socks through out your vids... does one person have such speed of wearing down socks? I have a theory, that socks are coming from the whole family... oh, the piece is great, I love the additional bottom shelf and the new height. And the wood grain is gorgeous.
I love the way you repurpose scraps and create a functional piece. Your amazing videos are my favorite indulgence. Anxiously awaiting your next masterpiece!

Wow, beautiful work! New sub for sure. 👍👍
Andy, I wish I had the skills you have! Are you self taught?
Andy, you are the sole reason that I naievely think they are teaching better woodwork skills in schools. Sigh.

Oh wow 😮
I appreciated the pause to contemplate your life decisions mid-timelapse. That's a big mood.
The wine holder in the side missing a door and then matching the handles to it in colour was a genius touch!
I liked what you did with the clock to show how long it took to get down to bare wood.

Ok maybe not a restoration but a rescue of this once beautiful piece of furniture. Andy I just love your work and the little moments of comedy.

The level of skills and craftsmanship is astounding and always perfect. Beautiful and clean.
Literally one of the worst resto jobs I’ve seen.
I initially thought the new legs would raise the little dress to high and look top heavy but it looks prefect. Adding the wine rack gives a nice balance to the piece.
The red sock will always be myfavorite, but the duck sock is now a close second! 😁 Great work as always Andy! You are a true furniture marvel!

That moment where you just stood and stared at the piece as you were sanding it... I felt that in my soul. 😔 Gorgeous, as usual!!
