      Dustin Penner it was an attempt at humor, my writing skills match my woodworking skills. You do great work and pick cool projects. You make it look so easy, I thought I'd give it a try. Lets say it wasn't the result I would've liked. Ever try reverse engineering lumber back into a tree? Thats what I claim my various attempts of woodworking are, to justify my results.

      +tittiesprnkles I would open this box with a sledge hammer, including the secret compartment!
      No wooden box, secret or not. I have ever seen, resists a good few heavy swings with a 14 lb sledge!!

    • @swordcrab3181
      @swordcrab3181 8 років тому +3

      But why would you break the box?
      It's not locked. You can open it and go through it's content without doing any work. Unless you know there is a secret compartment and can't improvise a key you have absolutly no reason to destroy it.
      Except if you really want to be a jerk toward the people you're stealing from... but even then I think someone would notice you breaking in with a sledgehammer or hear you swinging that ridiculous thing inside the house. Not to mention the fact that your hit would probably destroy the contents of the secret compartment.

    • @tessverres4898
      @tessverres4898 8 років тому +1

      +Thomas Pettier "Unless you know there is a secret compartment and can't improvise a key you have absolutly no reason to destroy it."
      Look at the last minute of the video. 6:40 shows the box's bottom and you can see that the "secret panel" doesn't match flush with the grain of the wood. That's no mistake he made as he made sure to label all the pieces and cuts he made through the video.
      At 7:15 when he's done with the wood polish (or whatever it was, because it wasn't almonds), you can see it even MORE clearly that there's something that doesn't match flush with the bottom. These clearly give away the fact that something's not right with it and practically yells "THERE'S SOMETHING SECRET HERE AND MOST LIKELY VALUABLE".
      Sure, you can argue "Oh I'll just make sure it's flush and then nobody will see it" or whatever. I would imagine that the person making this video would have thought of that and wouldn't go and make rookie mistakes and show it off in the video. Not only would that be bad on him, but it would also be passing around the rookie mistakes.

      It's obvious there is a secret compartment and a hatchet would make short work of this box. No need to work out how to open it, just spilt it apart with the axe.

    • @buggsy5
      @buggsy5 4 роки тому

      In most countries, as long as you declare the firearms to customs when you arrive, there is no problem. The authorities may take them into custody for the duration of your stay, then release them when you are leaving the country. The worst that would happen is that they would be confiscated, so check with the country's embassy before arriving.
      What you DO NOT want to do is attempt to hide them from customs. That could get you a prison sentence - as they might decide to charge you as a smuggler, which is what you would be.

    Yes, beautifully made, but I envy all those super machine tools - the precision table saw, band saw, router, etc. Without these, which the average hobbyist doesn't have, it would be impossible to make this with anywhere near the precision. So interesting but not very useful

      The first one I built was done with a table saw and some very basic hand tools. It took longer and was more work, but that doesn't mean it can't be done.

    Hi, a random question, but did you actually used almond paste(oil?) to rub the wood? Or you just use the container? Just curious. I want to keep my wood table nice and shiny, but it won't Don't know why, and what to rub the table with.

      That was just an empty container that I filled with my own stuff. I made a video a while back on how to make the finish and the link to that is in the description.

    That's a great box and a nice project. Personally, I would have enjoyed it more if you made it a two part video and kept it at regular speed. For me, it was difficult to follow. Maybe I'm too old for this! :-) But again, a great project!

    Great video. I couldn't work out what the rod with the gold disc was for. Pardon my ignorance, I'm new to this. I'm definitely trying to make one of these.

    bandsaw, tablesaw, cnc router, router table, beltsander, drill press, it's sad to see so many machines. it's not hard to make anything nowadays, real craftsmanship is gone

      What are you building these days since it's so easy? Believe it or not, my tools don't build things for me. Go be negative somewhere else.

      Deborah Durham two options! You can enter the contest I have going on right now to win one like this, or you can get the plans on my website and build one for yourself. Either way, thanks for watching!
